Don't Be Afraid (4:23)
Taken For Granted (4:09)
Review: Edinburgh has long fancied itself as the Athens of the North, having gained a reputation since the 1700s as a centre for ideas in philosophy, economics and medicine. The Athens Of The North house band are back as East Coast Love Affair and their soulful and emotive deep disco version "Don't Be Afraid", a version of a super rare Disco 45" by Sky's The Limit, followed by a low slung and minimalistic afro house workout titled "Taken For Granted" on the flip.

Handa Wanda (4:42)
(Somebody Got) Soul, Soul, Soul (6:13)
Review: New Orleans funk outfit The Wild Magnolias were active in the mid 70s, releasing two albums and then regrouping in the 90s. Their sound is in step with their more renowned Louisiana peers, but certainly running hotter than the likes of The Meters. "Handa Wanda" is a stirring, effervescent call and response epic that shows the band at their best, rocking a wall of sound approach that keeps the pressure up the whole way through. "(Somebody Got) Soul, Soul, Soul" is a more fluid track, but it's certainly no slouch in the energy department either. This is hi-octane funk to get people shaking and sweaty.

Midnight Magic (DJ Kawasaki 45 edit instrumental) (5:00)
Review: Cro-Magnon's 2010 album 4U has plenty of stunning pieces on it, but of course a collaboration between Japan's eminent jazz funk outfit and grandmaster Roy Ayers was going to be a particularly special moment. DJ Kawasaki has taken the track for a ride and pressed the results onto 7", keeping the vibe intact but eking the track out with blissful results. For those who just want the groove, there's the instrumental on the flip so you can trip out on Ayer's stunning vibraphone playing.

Number Three (4:43)
Review: Amazingly this is the first time in a decade the The Durutti Column have put out a standalone vinyl single. It was meant to land on Vini Reilly's birthday in early August and was first put out on the CD release 'Chronicle'. Here it is presented with the unreleased track "Number Three" from the same sessions, and includes the voice of singer-songwriter Caoilfhionn Rose, who has contributed to the band various times over the past five years. As if that weren't enough in itself, the package comes on crystal clear vinyl with a Trevor Johnson designed sleeve.

Eine Pikante Variante (27:44)
Review: This live recording of kosmische titans Ash Ra Tempel was captured in 2000 as part of Julian Cope's CORNUCOPEA Festival, at the Royal Festival Hall in London. With Manuel Gottsching on guitars and Klaus Schulze on synths, the scene is set for two masters to set adrift in a whirlwind of bubbling analogue pulses and tastefully treated guitar. Moving through more glacial, atmospheric pastures onto steadily rolling movement before crescendoing in a hailstorm of wailing solos and a theatrical level of bombast, it's a perfect document of a less-explored era for these legends of German electronic music.

Review: If you don't own this album already, now's the time to make amends and get hold of one of the great totems of hip-hop culture. They don't come more classic than this - Eazy E, Ice Cube, MC Ren and Dre created the blueprint for gangsta rap in 1988 and blew the game wide open. More than 30 years on, Dre's beats still sound insanely fresh, matching the MCs blow for blow in style, funk and humour. The picture they paint of America still holds weight today, and the 10 perfectly formed tracks will be lodged in your brain after just one listen. What more do you need to know? NWA - none tougher.

Minimal House/Tech House
Track 1 (9:12)
Review: It's that time again! East End Edits are back with another cheeky, pop-inflected minimal techno workout. As always, the remixer's identity is under tight wraps but as soon as that vocal drops you'll sure know who they borrowed the hook from. Booming, tough rolling UK tech house aimed squarely at the main room at peak time, the dense bass pulsations of the original compliment this version perfectly, alongside the gorgeous come hither vocal. Hand-stamped, one sided heavyweight 12" vinyl in limited copies.

Baseline 87' (6:46)
Musik For The Dancefloor (6:24)
Review: The Sushitech festivities continue unabated with this bittersweet repress of an all-time classic from the much-missed Detroit figurehead Mike Huckaby. 'Baseline '87' ranks amongst his most fabled works, riding as it does around an irresistibly catchy square wave bass hook and one of those no-nonsense beats that the legendary producer did so well. For the sound of Huckaby in full flight though, 'Musik For The Dancefloor' on the flip soars thanks to the interplay between the pads and chords while retaining that steadfast focus. In memory of a true dance music hero, why not revisit a classic that should be comfortably sat in every record bag?

Review: Jazz Rock doesn't quite do exactly what it says on the cover - jazz features heavily on this gorgeous record, but of the spiritual kind, and often driven by lush, funky drum playing. It is also a record defined by the distinctive sound of the koto - a traditional Japanese string instrument that lends the record a delicate and beautiful feel. It was recorded in 1973 and sounds both perfectly aged yet utterly fresh and also features bamboo flute playing by Hozan Yamamoto. It's a laidback record, one filled with the joys of spring, but also one that doesn't take itself too seriously and gets upbeat and funky as often as it does tender and pensive.

Not About You (6:43)
Not About You (KDA Legacy - extended remix) (6:17)
Not About You (KDA Did I Ask? dub) (7:31)
Review: Honey Dijon, or Honey "Fucking" Dijon, as she is known on her new range of bags and wallets with Comme Des Garcon, is now getting the headlines she deserves after decades of paying her DJ dues. The Chicago house innovator links up with old friends Classic for this lush new EP which features steamy vocal house anthem "Not About You". It's built on a prying baseline and finished with neat chord stabs up top, while the soulful vocal brings all the character you need to rock the floor. Two KDA versions flip the beats to more afro patterns, one with the vocal, one a dub, both red hot.

Apache (5:33)
Ignite (4:26)
Review: Burnski's Instinct outlet continues to bring some serious firepower to the resurgent UK garage scene, and this time he's facing off with 0113 (otherwise known as Kepler.) for two rabble-rousing heaters packed with inventive twists on the 2-step formula. "Apache" is an intensely detailed roller that pivots around a killer vocal take, and uses all kinds of synth flourishes to create a wholly futuristic atmosphere - the garage of the future, but certainly not future garage. "Ignite" has a slightly more old-skool flavour that nods to past masters like Smith & Mighty as well as the pioneering work of El B et al. Classy stuff on both sides of this cool and deadly 12".

Stop (Dino Soccio edit) (8:13)
Tough (Dino Soccio edit) (6:27)
Sharpflavor (Dino Soccio edit) (8:47)
Review: Previously, Los Angeles re-edit specialist Dino Soccio has operated under the Only Children alias, serving up filter-heavy, house-fired reworks for Razor 'N' Tape and Nurvous. Here the fast-rising DJ/producer branches out on his own via the new Pleasure of Edits series. There's a brilliantly no-holds-barred feel to opener "Stop", a chunky and full-throttle interpretation of a quirky, arpeggio-driven gem that incorporates elements from boogie, Italo-disco and Moroder-style Euro-disco. There's a similarly quirky feel to the delay-laden, left-of-centre electrofunk shuffler "Tough", while flipside "Sharpflavor" pitches up and toughens up a seriously druggy chunk of Munich Machine style electro-disco sleaziness.

Review: After a blazing series of sounds across the likes of Idle Hands and his own co-run label Wisdom Teeth, London-based K Lone reveals even more of his musical depths with his debut album Cape Circa. Beautifully subdued, warm and hypnotic, K Lone carefully crafts a whole narrative using minimal instruments and textures throughout. Vibrating with a timeless style that nods to dub techno and the deeper side of Detroit, highlights include the sweet harmonics of tracks like "Honey" and "Cocoa" to the dreamy lullaby-like charm of cuts such as "Bluefin" and the delicate, trembling finale "Happened". A perfect, ultimately calming soundtrack to these strange, turbulent times.

Review: Repressed after its original release, we're talking super-emotionally charged electronic music recalling, at different moments, classic Orbital, the most euphoric hardcore breaks and the hybrid dance-chillout sound popularised during the 1990s. Forget the nostalgia trip, through, while this is grounded in - and coming out of - the ongoing classic 'rave music' revival, it's clearly born in our era.

Review: REPRESS: Rising Sun Psyche aka Berlin's hugely prolific but somehow rather lowkey Steffen Laschinski hits an amazingly bittersweet spot on his latest offering. It combines post-rave ambient, breakbeats, IDM and deep house into a real trip. "The River Experiment II" is a dreamy opener with gorgeous synths while "Back Home" is backlit with a celestial glow of melody and spoken word snippets that add to the reverie. There's gentle minimalism in "The River Experiment I" and followed by punchy and emotive number "Feel What I Feel" amongst many other highlights.
