Jakatta - "American Dream" (Atjazz remix) (7:20)
The Pockets - "Work It Out" (Dave Lee rework) (6:45)
Review: Dave Lee's Z Records continues to fly the flag for disco-tinged house, or house-tinged disco, from new school artists and old-school mainstays. One thing you can be sure of with music n this label is that it will be big, crowd-pleasing tackle that never forgets its roots. There is real religious rapture in the thrilling Doug Godbizniss mix of 'The Mighty Douglas' which gets the EP underway in fine style. After that is a sumptuous, string-laced house classic from Ron Basejam, a lush mix of the wonderfully ethereal 'American Dram' from lounge-y house don Atjazz and classy, hip-swinging vocal house bomb from Dave Lee himself.

Paul Johnson - "She Got On Me" (10:51)
Soul Central - "All This Love" (8:15)
Dominic Balchin - "Touch Of Jazz" (6:02)
Review: To our ears, Tropical Disco's recently launched TDR LTD sub-label has much more potential than its' parent, primarily because it focuses on original productions rather than housed-up re-edits. There's certainly plenty to set the pulse racing on the imprint's second release, starting with a new airing of Paul Johnson's 2004 cut 'She Got Me On', a cheery chunk of bouncy, sun-kissed house blessed with distinctively sparkling guitar sounds and a trademark lead vocal from the Chicago house veteran. Over on the flip, British scene stalwarts Soul Central (they of the much-loved 'Strings of Life' cover fame) deliver some beefy, Glitterbox style disco-house cheeriness, before rising star Dominic Balchin closes out the EP via accurately titled jazz-funk-goes-house number 'A Touch of Jazz'.

Hello My Love (5:40)
Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No) (5:34)
Review: How Do You Are? has another serving of super edits from the long ruling and always crucial Too Slow To Disco series. This tidy twosome comes from La based maestro Luxxury who firstly works his magic on a funky, dubbed out and space age disco roller that hovers at an inviting mid tempo. It is grown up dance music to get down to with a classic melody and vocal samples to send those shivers down your spine. An AOR classic is under the scalpel on the flip with 'Baby Please Don't Go (Oooh No)' rolling deep and slow on lush strings and Balearic pads.

Review: Since first emerging in 2009, Future Disco has marked itself out as one of this era's most essential disco labels. Its now long running Dance Club series is at volume 14 here with swathes of jubilant, feel good grooves that are designed to keep you dancing at home and happy on the move until that moment we can all be together again in real clubs. Sean Brosnan is the man who has once again compiled this one and he ticks off everything from glossy cosmic dazzlers to retro-inspired 80s gems and plenty in between. Dimitri From Paris, Dr Packer, Gerd Janson, Aeroplane and more all make the cut.

Your Smile (6:00)
Michigan Slide (6:03)
Review: REPRESS ALERT!: After their Pimp Life EP kicked off proceedings last year, Soul Central are back on their very own Electric Shine label with more of that feel good house tackle they do so well. The duo have earned their stripes plenty over the years working with labels like Defected, and they're on searing form here as they whip up a sizzling disco fever with the oh-so-sweet 'Just Friends' and get deep into the groove with the synth-licked 'Party Together'. 'Your Smile' leans in on a truly sentimental vocal hook which will spread infectious positivity out amongst a crowd of party people, and 'Michigan Slide' nudges the heat up with some serious bass flex and bugging Rhodes chords.

Yam Who? & Brian Lucas - "Yah Mo B There" (6:16)
Review: House music's roots are in the church and this new a celebratory various artist collection pays homage to that. The grooves are laced with soulful vocals, churchy chords and big strings that make for grand architecture and grander feelings of joy. Mark Brickman & Yam Who? open with a vocal gem that cannot help but bring a smile, while Wayfaring Strangers pump it up a little more with some funky disco house before Platinum City get you locked in a nice loose, long legged groove that is resplendent with lush keys and big vocal turns. Not You Again? (11:33)
Review: The Gallery has these rare grooves up for auction, so they advise you to place your bid quickly. Spoken like true gallerists (or collectors?) this label has presented two previous displays of artistic editing that are still enigmatic to this very day, and their next one retains the high standard in artistic quality. On the A side of this 12' we have the low slung disco disco inferno of 'Steady On Now' packed with a vibrant brass section, cosmic synths and some fine guitar work. On the flip, you're in luck (what more can we say) on 'Not You Again' which has that classic Salsoul kind of vibe all the way, oh and that vocal - good times!

Review: Loveface Music serves up its fourth instalment of unashamedly big vocal disco dazzlers. There is a carefree 80s joy to opener 'Let Me Love You' with its shiny, tooting chord sequences, stepping analogue baseline and lung busting vocals. 'Dub What You Wanna' takes a deep turn, with more subtle chords and a warmer bassline, but it is no less effective. The party starting three tracker then closes on a glossy high with cosmic synths, shooting star keys and a lush vocal harmony all driven along by a nice rugged bassline on the sumptuous 'Do Me Baby.'

Review: Mango Sounds, a disco edits and disco-house imprint with a bulging, digital-only catalogue to its name, has finally decided to release a record. Predictably, there's plenty to savour on the Russian label's first wax outing. Etur Usheo gets proceedings under way in fine fashion with 'Wo Ye Wa (Na Na)', a fine fusion of sparkling nu-disco electronics, driving disco bass and African instrumentation/vocals, before Whatever Charles delivers a lolloping, house style re-rub of a funk-fuelled Afro-disco treat ('African Dialects'). Experienced re-editor and remixer Ziggy Phunk steals the show with vibraphone-laden, proto-house treat 'Blues Grinder', while So.undso's 'Ultrashake' is a celebratory disco-house stomper with added synth squelch.

But as soon as the first few bars of these Flying Mojito Bros Refritos versions of Rudy Norman's 'Bacl to the Streets' play out, our mood is lifted. There is sunshine b the lush keys, warmth in the bass and feel good groove in the gentle rhythms. Believe In Love (4:00)
Forever In My Life (Schneller 7" edit) (4:07)
Review: A warm welcome back to everyone's favourite Berlin-based Canadian, exiled Ontarian Eddie C. He's in full-on, glassy-eyed Balearic disco mode on the A-side of this fine 45, his first of 2021. 'Believe in Love' is as luscious and warming as you'd expect, with the producer cannily combining sumptupus disco loops and pitched-up female vocal snippets with locked-in mid-tempo house beats and occasional energy-raising sample cut-ups. On the flip he takes his scalpel to Prince cut 'Forever In My Life', delivering a chugging, low-slung version that sounds like the Purple One jamming with Sottish loop-jammer the Revenge.

Their self titled EP for The Very Polish Cut-Outs marks the start of a new series of samplers, which will showcase native producers. In this case, The Very Holiday 80 Sampler EP features four new edits such as 'Byles, Jestes, Bedziesz Moj' a groovy Italo-ish re-interpretation of a 1987 song by Krystyna Pronko with some infectious steel drums. On the flip, 'Zaopiekuj sie mna' has a moody and slo-mo boogie down vibe, while an edit of 'Centrum Wynalazkow' shines bright in neon-lit glory.

Review: On their debut album, 2016's the Tony Allen Experiments, Naples twosome Nu Guinea re-invented tracks by the legendary Afro-beat drummer as synth-heavy chunks of deep jazz-funk and nu-Balearica. For this follow-up - their first full length entirely made up of their own compositions - the duo serves up a set of jazz-funk, disco and boogie cuts rich in both their trademark colourful analogue synthesizer sounds and live instrumentation. It's a formula that guarantees a string of memorable highlights, from the sun-kissed peak-time brilliance of "Disco Sole" and rubbery, funk-fuelled "Je Vulesse" (a killer vocal number), to the wobbly downtempo trip of "A Voce E Napule" and Mizell Brothers fizz of closer "Parev Ajare", the album's most synthesizer-heavy cut.

It is a project solely for the purposes of making tracks, remixes and edits to play at their own DJ residency, which goes down at the open air King Cross space of Two Tribes Campfire. It is Herbert who is on the buttons for this one with an edit of 'Humans' that has a tight bassline, shooting sci-fi synths and a buoyant groove for good time dancing. The original is a more slow and percolating tune with spoken word mutterings and cosmic jungle atmospheres.

Disco Smoking (5:42)
Dawson Street (5:07)
Review: Mystical Circles Is a brand-new edit-focused imprint with its eyes firmly on the dancefloor. The label's first missive comes courtesy of Island Times Deejay, a DJ/producer/re-editor previous best known for his DJ mixes, which were uniformly full of obscure, hard-to-find disco gems. We have no idea what the source material is for either of the edits here, but they sound like Caribbean disco records. 'Disco Smoking' is unfeasibly heavy, driving and stomping, with mazy horn solos, jazzy funk guitars and hazy vocal snippets riding a booming bassline and sweaty, non-stop drums. 'Dawson Street' is a more relaxed, and rubbery affair, albeit one rich in chiming melodies, spacey synth solos, winding sax lines and elastic bass guitar. As the Welsh would say: tidy!

Brooklyn Express in '81 created a handy dub of it retitled 'Sixty Nine', with a version on the flip titled 'Change Position 88'. 30 years later, High Fashion Music have tapped Dutch disco stu HP Vince for a respectful edit here, while western Australian dance music veteran Greg 'Dr' Packer (Glitterbox, M2MR, Salsoul) serves up the killer 'Change Position (88)' 2021 re-edit - lending his midas touch as always.

It arrives just in time for the warmer months and has been curated by Sam Don and overseen by label boss Euan Fryer. Standouts include Christine Lewin's lush take on the heavily sampled "Juicy Fruit" while the lo-fi bliss of Al Charles's "Outstanding" is another one to swell the heart and sooth the soul. For more sentimental moments check Family Love's "Do Me Baby." Overall, though, this is a must buy.

It might have been a while year since the last outing but the wait was worth it as these latest edits are on fire once again. Big Foot's 'Watch Your Step' is a funky disco gem with live drumming and loose perc, then Sehrazat goes for a tighter arrangement that reaches to the stars with its big synth work. JKriv & Dicky Trisco link up first for 'Mae Do Mar,' a tune that has you dreaming of warmer climes, sandy beaches and sunny skies. It's an airy cut with a tropical percussive line, hints of Latin flair and breezy vocals.
