Review: Munich based producer Bryan Mueller aka Skee Mask presents his latest album titled Pool, via local imprint Ilian Tape which follows up his LP Compro which came out three years ago. There's an extensive collection of sonic experiments on offer on this one, such as opening cut 'Nvivo' which goes down an IDM route, to the glassy eyed rave euphoria of 'LFO', the intelligent drum and bass reductions of 'Rio Dub' and UK influenced steppers like 'Crossection'.

Doppler (7:13)
RPM (6:51)
Formula (7:42)
Review: Following up some great releases recently by ONYVAA and Alignment, Belgian techno heroine Charlotte De Witte is back with a vengeance this week on her beloved KNTXT imprint. The Formula EP features three ferocious cuts, all aimed squarely at the main room dancefloor at peak time. From the strict, heads-down shuffle of 'Doppler' and its ravey, infectious chord progression playing centre stage, to the cerebral stomper 'RPM' taking you aboard a wild ride on the acid express. It ends with the adrenalised energy flash of the title track, which goes out all guns blazing.

An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness (6:20)
Compulsive Thinking: Repetitive & Pointless (6:34)
Misinterpretations Of Reality (9:21)
Spiritually Unconscious (Dissolve) (6:46)
Review: Dave Sumner's Function project is one of techno's most consistently well regarded. Awakening From The Illusory Self is another release that backs that up, and it follows on form his last full length, 2019's Existenz. The tempo is high, the quality higher, with 'An Optical Illusion Of Consciousness' layering up rubbery drums and bass, warped synth and bleeping melodies into something gooey and languid yet compelling as hell. 'Compulsive Thinking: Repetitive & Pointless' is more tense with its edgy sounds and rugged drums loops, then the flip races through outerspace on waves of booming techno deepness.

Mind Wipe (7:05)
Our Mission (5:51)
Praying For Better Days (5:59)
Review: Christian AB is making low key waves with a self-steered angle on hardware house and techno which packs plenty of personality into the time-honoured tradition of box jamming. Four years since the last exemplary 12" on London In Transmission, AB is back with another grip of charismatic club cuts. 'Mind Wipe' is the logical choice for the A side, riding a warm and fluid monosynth bass hook, classic boxy 707 drums and eerie pads to inject a little spooky mystery into the dancefloor. 'Our Mission' is a more adventurous track which dusts up the drums good a proper and lays the psychedelic textures on heavy, but not at the expense of the beat of course. 'Praying For Better Days' is a rousing finale, using some anthemic organ chords as the lead hook for an uptempo jacker par excellence.

Review: Tresor is celebrating 30 years in the game with a series of special reissue projects. This one really goes way back to almost the start, when Juan Atkins was already defining the early techno sound. For this one he linked up with Moritz von Oswald and Thomas Fehlmann in 1992 for a second iteration of the 3 Men in Berlin project. The monumental results join the dots between Detroit and Berlin across a collection of timeless cuts that meld bassline funk, hypnotic minimalism and soulful machine sounds into propulsive, emotive dance floor joy. The unbridled energy and cosmic elegance of 'Jazz Is The Teacher' might just be the highlight.

Review: Detroit techno originator Terrence Dixon serves up another of his stunning albums on Rush Hour after making us all wait seven years since the last one. That one, Theatre of a Confused Mind, was as Population One, this one is under his own name, and it is another exploration of afro-futurist techno that could only come from the Motor City. The drums hit hard, but there is always soul in the synths. 'Reporting From Detroit' brings street-level angst and tension where 'Star Garden' explores the cosmos above, while moments of deep self-reflection are encouraged, nay mandatory, during tracks like 'Growth & Development.'

Review: Floppy haired indie techno wizard Daniel Avery has become one of the genre's most notable craftsmen. He has done fine projects with Nine Inch Nails's synth player Alessandro Cortini already recently but now is back with a superb new solo album for his home label Phantasy Sound. The 11-track work is composed entirely of piece he made for his London show Together in Static. It The socially distanced show took place at the recently restored Hackney Church which no doubt influenced the gothic sounds and shadowy drones that define the album.

Review: Rene Wise is back on the iconic Mote-Evolver label and once again serves up some of his impossibly dynamic and rolling techno. 'Raptor' is lithe and muscular, with pulsating drums and synths all weaving in and out of one another to mind-melting affect. 'Marbles' is more eerie and empty, with shakers detailing a percolating synth phrases and endlessly loopy drums. On the reverse, the title track gets a little more unhinged, with groaning pads and loose tin pot percussion hurrying along before closer 'Hand Tap' drops down into a subterranean world of deep techno rhythm.

Fort Romeau & Panthera Krause - "Omicron 8" (5:45)

Review: In pandemic times of telepresences and social distancing, Live At Robert Johnson and Leipzig's own Riotvan team up for a magical musical mission. Encompassed by the graphic design of Michael Satter & Panthera Krause, each of the five tracks has been created by teams representing both label crews and their environs, rendering a truly synergetic effort. A1 is Roman Flugel & Rebolledo producing deep and wide Star Stuff with arpeggiated bass riffs, haunting vocals and melody. A2 sees Jennifer Touch & Chinaski setting off on an electroid Synth-Pop trip, with crafty 1980s synths, drums and vocals. A3 is New Hook and Perel teaming up for a Cosmic Disco tinged track, featuring unique spanish-english vocals. The flipside kicks off with Fort Romeau & Panthera Krause on B1, heavily into a stereophonic and proper Italo soundscape. Horkheimer & Peter Invasion & Gregor Habicht conclude the EP on B2 with a wicked technoid Breakbeat along a modulating bass line and, yeah, a looney laugh befitting these crazy times.

Review: Bruno Pronsato is one of minimal's more characterful producers and for that reason he has survived the passage of time better than the genre itself, in some ways. This new album comes on the always reliably excellent Perlon label and across nine track it explores succulent synth symphonies, abstract sound design and cinematic grooves that will make for tripped out 5am club experiences as well as they will stand up to close home listening on a good set of headphones. The arrangements here are often sparse, but the atmospheres are always full and absorbing, making it another fine entry into this artist's catalogue.

Factor It N (K-1 mix)
Review: OPTIC NERVE / STRAND ......define Detroit techno definitively and beautifully through their respective sense of dance from the Motor City. The 12 inch kicks off with the voice of Brian Bonds from Strand simply stating what you are in for and it is indeed a treat. The "Optic Nerve Meets Strand" opener is a mature track with all the colorful strings and funky bass the two groups have brought for over 20 years, ready for the dance floor. B side) "Factor It N" (Mix 1) is a Strand experiment filled with layered bass pads exploding through the speakers and is one of those rare tracks that leads you to listen to hear what comes next. "Factor It N" (K1 Mix) is Keith Tucker's electro persona bringing the electro heads to the dance floor with intricate, precise bass lines thumping within the beats and claps smacking you in the face.......PICK UP THIS LIMITED CLASSIC!

Review: Alan Dixon launches his brand new label Love Attack, the Multi Periodic Oscillations EP being a three tracker from Man Power at his curious techno best. Deep, dark and dubby, not to mention suitable for 3am needs everywhere, it opens with 'Cepheid Variable Part 1', 11 minutes of twists and turns, revolving around a hypnotic groove. Its baby brother 'Part 2' keeps the vibes intact before 'Applegate Mechanism' closes the EP in a straight up dancefloor fashion. Keep your eyes on Love Attack, with many more releases lined up for the next year.

The Vamp (5:09)
Review: There are plenty of question marks over the man who founded and still runs the R&S label, but the music it releases remains crucial. This time it is a reissue that gets us excited with Belgian artist Marcos Salon aka The Outlander's debut EP from 1991 in the spotlight. The visceral five track offering is all about high impact, floor facing techno with dramatic synth builds and driving drums. Often thought to be one of the most most intelligent rave release's R&S put out during this period, it still fits right in today with artists like Ben UFO never afraid to reach for the classics.
