History Of Dates
Lockdown Party
Lockdown Party (Sprinkles Crossfaderama)
Review: Canadian producer The Mole, or Colin de la Plante to friends, has been in fine production fettle so far this year, gracing labels as varied as Red Motorbike, Slices Of Life and his own Maybe Tomorrow operation with his distinct brand of tongue in cheek mutant house. History Of Dates marks the long overdue Perlon debut for The Mole and it's celebrated in style as Zip's venerated label call in DJ Sprinkles on remix duties! The title track and "Lockdown Party" line up on the A Side with the latter track a particularly cheeky production, as playground chants sit deep beneath an insouciant house groove. It's this track that Sprinkles remixes, implementing some subtle production additions such as handclaps and playful filtration on the vocal samples which lend the track a different energy as Thaemlitz deftly builds up a killer contemporary disco groove.

Bigger Than Prince (original)
Bigger Than Prince (The Martinez Brothers remix)
Bigger Than Prince (Hot Since 82 remix)
Review: ** Camera's ready. Prepare for the Repress ** Curtis Jones is never one to rest on his laurels, as his staggering back catalogues as Green Velvet and Cajmere can attest but such is the force of his personality that a new release still feels like an event. "Bigger Than Prince" capitalises on Jones' knack for a vocal that lambasts the less earnest quirks of the dance music industry, while creating the hook to make the track a bomb in the same instance. Production-wise, there's a measured strut to the track with some choice growling bass synths and an underlying disco flavour that suits Jones just fine. On the remix front, Circus turn to The Martinez Brothers to hammer out a rolling, percussion focused version perfect for big room mixing, while Hot Since 82 turn out a similar line in boompty peak time damage.

Sunday Sunlight (original mix)
Sunday Sunlight (Delano Smith remix)
Review: If you're looking for classic deep house reissues, the Apollonia crew are doing an ever increasingly great job of turning out the truly sought after gems amongst the chaff. Kerri Chandler's Night Moves EP that originally put out "Sunday Sunlight" is now fetching silly prices elsewhere, but it's not hard to see why when you wrap your ears around the swinging deep house master at his very best. From the warm, bubbly bassline to the life-affirming chords to the sweet, distant vocal hook, it's everything you want from the man. To round the package off in fine style, Delano Smith slides in for a remix that dubs the track out with a soft but effective touch.

Multiverse
40 De Mayo
Dune
Review: Birdsmakingmachine deliver their third release and make steps closer to establishing themselves as a sought after the label. This self titled three track EP is steered by a repetitious drive of clunky drums, scrappy percussion and subtle synths. "Multiverse" takes up the A-side and plays out at length like a sample-based Baby Ford track, while "40 De Mayo" basks in a humid eeriness and autumn moods. The temperament of "Dune" is made even cooler as random house-party discussion becomes the tracks melody which rests on top of an arid scratch work of drums and miscellaneous clatter.

Cave
Grenier
Review: Combine Jean-Guillaume Cabanne with Guillaume Berroyer and you get Copacabannark, a French minimal production duo with two early noughties releases on Perlon and another 2006 release on Minibar. The 10" Mindisc EP is their second release for the aforementioned Minibar and it sees Copacabannark return to a quirky and minimal squirt-effect aesthetic. "Cave" softly throbs to the sound of a tonal bassline muffled by woofy filters, as a three dimensional scope of trippy sound bites circulate the background like a confusing dream. On the flip is the stripped back and funky groove of "Grenier", narrated by discombobulated vocal samples of the late Gil Scott-Heron.

What To Do
What To Do (Infinity Ink remix)
What To Do (Matrixxman remix)
What To Do (Luca Cazal dub)
Review: Since emerging with the slinky four tracker Changes last year, the London based producer and DJ Francesca Lombardo has become a fully fledged member of the Crosstown family, with this third release on Damian Lazarus's label arriving amidst news the fast-rising Rebel queen is working on her debut album for them. As with her previous efforts, "What To Do" really conveys Lombardo's growing talent as a song writer within the framework of electronic music. The raw production here is elevated by Francesca's sultry tones and there's three further remixes that rework the source material in pleasantly differing directions with Matrixxman's effort standing out!

Tin Of Worms
Westway
Review: Autoreply do the record buying public a favour and give Baby Ford's Tin Of Worms 12" another repress, this time on yellow wax. Baby Ford has been making electronic music since the late 1980s and is regarded by most as one of the key players in the nascent UK acid house scene. His entry into the Autoreply stable is a classy, versatile two tracker. The title track showcases crisp, tight linear drum programming - with ribcage shaking sub bass and supernatural synths which undulate over its eight minute cycle, displaying the original principles of minimal techno alongside forward thinking sound design. On the flip you'll find "Westway", originally recorded on Ford's now defunct hardware set up and mastered from DAT. This track conjours images of smoky late night jazz clubs with its smooth piano chords and strings that seem to float in an out of the mix- set starter, nightclub techno lesson, afterparty showpiece; the choice is yours...

Mas Profundo Que Mis Pies (feat Tes-Time)
Ambivalent (feat Azeem)
Review: Ever since they took on the slightly daunting task of reworking material from the ECM catalogue, the names of Ricardo Villalobos and Max Loderbauer have appeared together in numerous label shaped places, mostly in a remix capacity. Perlon collar the first original music from the pairing for the Turbo Sematic 12" and both tracks here find Ricardo and Max working with vocalists. Chilean vocalist Camilo Castaldi a.k.a. Tea Time lines "Mas Profundo Que Mis Pies" whilst New York based spoken word artist Azeem vocalizes "Ambivalent". Despite Perlon claiming this is the pairing getting all "independent and rappy" both tracks bubble away with the minimalist class you'd expect, and the vocals add a palpable element of tension.

Let Down (Badly)
Getting There... Detroit
Mangos In Season
Back Pain
Review: So far in 2013 Mr G's Phoenix G label has proved a healthy outlet for his unstoppable flow of new music and some timely represses. The VFM EP belongs in the former category and ably demonstrates Colin McBean's masterful understanding of no nonsense club tracks. Despite their stripped back nature, there's something inherently distinct to each of the four impeccably produced tracks here; the warbling diva stuck deep in the machinery of "Let Down (Badly)" will remain in many memories long after it's dropped in a club for example. "Getting There... Detroit" seems quite simple on the surface, gradually revealing it's numerous elements but it's done with real skill and is a worthy DJ tool along with the basement primed "Mangos In Season".

Baka Tribe
Herzog
Apocalypta
Review: With a focus on distinctive and beautifully red-lining synths over delicate trills of beats, "Baka Tribe" instantly demands your attention as a more exciting product of the analogue house explosion. "Herzog" is equally raw, although here Albinos are getting deep into African sources with a joyous choir and rough beat bolstered by perfect ripples of synthesised liquid. "Apocalypta" is bizarrely the less wild of the cuts, opting for a more simplistic kind of jacker that calls to mind the early primal Chicago noodlings of Gene Hunt and the like. Either way this EP suggests vital and mind-twisting additions to a well-stocked shelf of house music, particularly for those who like things a little freaky.

All Night
All Night (Tuff City Kids remix)
Review: Fresh off the back of a killer 12" for Jared Wilson's 777 label under his given name, Mr Todd Osborn adds an 'e' to his surname and returns to Ghostly offshoot Spectral for the equally good Hold Up. Commencing with sparse kicks, "Hold Up" is soon taken somewhere else by the instantly recognisable vocal harmonies of Hot Chipper Joe Goddard and the spindly acid lines and spectral keys that take turns in the spotlight. It's a wonderfully insouciant slice of classic house and is totally catchy - just what you'd expect with the involvement of Mr Goddard. Accompanying this is a self explanatory dub version from Goddard, whilst the flip holds further original Osborne gold in the shape of "All Night" which itself is blessed with a killer Tuff City Kids remix.

Cheer Up

The Supreme Court
Review: There's much to admire about Bostro Pesopeo. The production alias of German producer Florian Peter, the name Bostro Pesopeo sounds like an ancient Roman politician and he makes some of the most under rated music on the Permanent Vacation roster. He apparently also makes the finest pizza in all of Munich. Cheer Up sees Pesopeo make one of his infrequent returns to the Perm Vac and challenges the Pional featuring Yes as the Juno review team's personal favourites in the Bostro canon of works. As with previous releases from Pesopeo, there's a real richness to his productions here and a diversity in style across the three tracks with "The Supreme Court" a notable delight of cloudy analogue textures and brisk house drums.

Archive 01
Realtime
Review: Londoner Midland has become one of the more consistent producers to emerge out of the post dubstep swamp in the last few years, with a respectable clutch of record label releases and collaborations in his discography. Apparently mindful of the pitfalls of spreading himself too thin by continuing this approach of signing records to interested labels, Midland has founded Graded, his own label which is aimed as an outlet for all his future 12" productions. Archive 01 sets the tone for Graded brandishing two typically weighty house productions from Midland recorded to tape; the title track has a wonderfully clomping beat whilst the fizzing bass line and ghostly vocals really benefit from the fuzzy edge the recording process gives them. Complementing this, "Realtime" demonstrates Aguis is equally happy to delve into weirder territory, crafting a groove from odd vocal ticks and searing bass tones.

Kool FM (Bliss mix)
Review: In advance of his forthcoming album Beautiful Rewind, Four Tet drops this limited white label offering a hint of what's to come. "Kool FM" is the producer's ode to pirate radio, constructing a stripped back club track bolted together with junglist breakbeats, a hyperactive MC sample, a full-bodied bassline and copious in-built rewinds. On the flip, the "Bliss Mix" strips out the beats and bass for a eerily serene version leaving only wispy pads and spectral vocals. As always with these surprise Four Tet drops, supplies are limited...

By All Means
Review: It's not often you see Onur Ozer's music released away from the Vakant stable, but the Watergate 01 compiler lends his talent to Slovenian label Gilesku. The title track "Karadae" is a fresh and techy cut of crackly, humming eastern European minimalism, while over on the B-side Ozer sends "By All Means" down more of an industrial route. Long playing tech house made for the club.

California Analog Dream (Robag Moppa Habax NB)
California Analog Dream (Robag Habay Latoff NB)
Review: Despite some ill advised comments from Vondelpark stating their apparent lack of interest in current dance music trends, it's clear that the R&S signed troupe focus on a sound that makes them eminently remixable. Robag Wruhme is the latest producer to remould Vondelpark on this pair of remixes for DJ Koze's Pampa label, drawing on the sounds of "California Analog Dream" for inspiration. Kudos to Koze as the Kompakt mainstay is on sublime form here; the lead 'Moppa Habax NB' version retains certain elements of Vondelpark's original but weaves a loving ultra-violet sheen around them whilst laying down the kind of sumptuous house beat that makes you ponder the validity of Vondelpark's aforementioned comments. The accompanying 'Habay Latoff NB' version pulls the track deeper into DJ tool territory and feels like the sort of track Michael Mayer would drop deep into a set.

Dia (8:41)
Tempr (5:55)
Sign (9:20)
Review: With just one former release that was also on the Giegling imprint, Ateq makes a welcome return with a second single two years later that builds on everything great about the Weimar based label. The first track "Dia" stutters and struts in a minimal narrative made of poised drum pops and subtle hum, keeping things interesting enough away from the dancefloor to avoid becoming a dry minimal techno track. "Tempr" has a more defined structure, but still occupies an esoteric space filled with sorrowful chords played quietly amidst the beats. "Sign" however is the real beast of the record, going deep into sound design with the range of beats on offer, notably sporting some live hits in amongst the electronics and rolling with a played-out feel that adds energy and danger to the mix.
