Bobby Byrd - "Hot Pants-I'm Coming , Coming , I'm Coming" (2:32)
Lyn Collins - "Mama Feelgood" (4:19)
Review: Soopastole now strikes out on his own eponymous 7' edits series and we must say it's impressive. These are well executed and above all much needed edits so credit to the edit! On the A side "Hot Pants" is an edit of the original track and the "dub beats version" (found only on the Urban release in 1988) starts with the drum break. On the flip we have got "Mama Feelgood" which has heavier drums and the instrumental intro and outro.

Chicken (3:45)
Dankasa (3:25)
Review: Two killer tracks licensed from Oriki Music, mastered by Frank From Sofrito at The Carvery and taken from the recent Akwaba Abidjan compilation. These two monsters from De Frank Jr are straight up deep and funky afrobeat from 1970's Ivory Coast. More essential dancefloor delights from Mukatsuku - strictly vinyl only & singles only...As played by Hunee ,JD Twitch & Alexander Nut

Shake Your Money Maker (part 1) (2:38)
Shake Your Money Maker (part 2) (2:38)
Review: Just 300 copies of this tasty, club-ready 7" single from the Soopastole Edits stable exist, so you'll have to move fast to secure a copy. As usual, Jalepeno Records' regular Soopasoul is at the control, using his trusty scalpel to deliver two hot-to-trot interpretations of a lesser-known cut from the "Sex Machine" sessions. On side A, you'll find "Shake Your Money Maker (Part 1)", where Maceo Parker's killer saxophone solos rise above Soopasoul's slightly tightened up version of the JB's killer groove. Flip to the B-side for more sax solos and a groove that mines some of the original track's more percussive sections for hip-swinging, toe-tapping thrills.

Blackrock - "Black Rock Yeah Yeah" (B-Boy edit) (3:03)
Richard's People - "Yo Yo" (re edit) (2:48)
Review: It's landed! Two highly iconic and tricky-to-trace funk breaks from the 70s get the treatment from the mysterious new US series B Boy Funk Breaks. Blackrock's psychedelically twinged "Yeah Yeah" gets a slight shuffle and refocus while retaining the all the instrumental drama and swashbuckling drop that's led with JB-level bandleadership while the edit of Richard's People take us straight to church, front row centre. Again laced with another clean and killer break, this is powermove gold. Limited to 300 copies.

Biosis Now - "Independent Bahamas" (Nik's Exclusive Mukatsuku edit) (3:30)
Afro Train - "Tumba Safari" (Nik's Exclusive Mukatsuku re-edit) (3:28)
Review: This tasty 7" from the reliable Mukatsuku label sees 2 killer funk treats for the dancefloor. On the A-side there's a handy and exclusive re-edit of Bahamian combo Biosis Now's ludicrously rare "Independent Bahamas", a righteous call for self-governance backed with a wonderfully fuzzy and full-throttle tropical funk groove. A copy recently for $700 on ebay for the very first time of the original 45. On the flipside we find "Tumba Safari" taken from the recent Oriki compilation, a suitably heavy chunk of Ivory Coast afro-funk from long forgotten outfit Afro Train. Weston's version naturally emphasizes the drum breaks, heavy horns and razor-sharp guitars, in the process tightening it up for contemporary club play.As played by Hunee,Red Greg ,DJ Logic and Nicola Conte

Gangsta Walk (Jim Sharp edit) (4:11)
Cave In (Jim Sharp mix) (3:39)
Review: Over the last couple of years, there's been a noticeable rise in the number of 7" singles featuring on DJ-friendly re-edits of break-heavy funk and soul favourites. Leading the charge has been the Dusty Donuts label and a group of dusty-fingered producers including Jim Sharp. Here, the latter briefly breaks free of the imprint to deliver two more tried-and-tested jams that blend classic drum breaks and instrumental loops with similarly well-loved hip-hop acapellas. A-side "Gangsta Walk" is the one for us, featuring as it does bongo-laden breaks tailor-made for doubling up, the swirling strings of a much-loved Quantic Soul Orchestra favourite , and Coolio. In other words, it's a tasteful and on-point mash-up that will get the dancefloor moving.

Whip It On Me (3:18)
Got My Mojo Working (But It Just Won't Work On You) (2:48)
Review: Killer heavy Hammond organ led driving dancefloor devastation on 'Whip It On Me' taken from the 'Heavy Soul' album from 1968. On flipside and taken from the New Genius of The Blues album from 1967 and the first time ever on a 45 is Billy's killer rendition of 'Got My Mojo Working (But It Just Won't Work On You)' featuring Mr Hawks on vocals and organ and Joseph Jones on guitar. Powerful stuff from the Mukatsuku camp and another essential single for your record box and Juno copies come in exclusive packaging ! As played by The Herbaliser, DJ Spinna, DJ Amir ,DJ Marky, Dom Servini, Bob Jones,Faze Action, Djar One, Smoov and more.

Party & Get On Down (Full Length mix) (5:37)
Party & Get On Down (3:51)
Review: Original pressings have been previously spotted passing hands for well over L1000: Big Apple Band's 1976 deep funk classic has been rarer than hen's teeth for most of its 41 year life. Its sought-after status accelerated by Keb Darge for last 15 or so years - that and the fact it's an out-and-out soul-stirring, honey-vocalled, low and slow funk burner - AOTN have finally unleashed it in it full length for all of us. And we should all be eternally grateful.

Disco Scene (3:57)
Disco Scene (Breaks Of Wrath re-edit) (3:19)
Review: Dr Rubberfunk: what he lacks in legit medical credentials, he makes up for in absolute funk plaudits. Tongue-in-cheek, clever and sprung with a groove so slinky you might just lose your trousers, "Disco Scene" marks its 16th anniversary since its debut in 2001 with this updated edit on a cheeky blink-and-miss 45. Backed up with the equally bubblesome (if a little heavier) Breaks Of Wrath blend, this stands the test of time impeccably.

Banko Woman (5:47)
Faith, Luck & Music (4:10)
Review: Destination '77: Nigerian troupe The Apostles lay down their third album Banko Woman. And, with it, this widescreen vibe excursion that's been a go-to for Afrobeat diggers since it was released on Love Day 40 years ago. "Banko Woman" is a firing, energetic funk jam layered with vibrant levels of instrumentation that gradually strip back at points to let you feel the raw tempo of the groove. "Faith Luck & Music" is at once both more bluesy, thanks to the sliding, melting guitars, and spiritual, thanks to the traditional rhythm and chords. A rare and long-awaited reissue.

Algo No Ar (4:07)
Algo No Ar (Steven J edit) (4:34)
Review: Fresh from '78: Brazilian funk lothario Marcelo's first big single (which was never out on a 45 before)- and a peak track from his debut eponymous album from the same year - gets a timely revisit from the Steven J's reissue/edit imprint Pepite. With its subtle piano striking Q&A, wild bass runs and clam-tight guitar/drum groove, Marcelo calls his way through the jam as if everything is a chorus. With its layered vocals, it's gutsy call to action for any dancefloor. Steven's edit stretches out the instrumental bars and brings out focus on the staccato vocal hook with a rising sense of momentum. Two great sides, one dope 45.

Funk
Main Event (3:37)
Buzzsaw (3:57)
Review: What a trip it's been for The Allergies; rolling from one killer album to the next, funk is flying from their HQ at a rate of knots. Here are two fine examples from their last LP Push On, both featuring their long-time friend and MC from Andy Cooper. Best known for his witty wordplay and character on Ugly Duckling records, here Andy gets to show off both sides to his expansive flow; "Main Event" is a chubby disco groove laced with mountains of funk, creating space for Andy's laidback-but-hypey charm. In perfect contrast "Buzzsaw" is a much sweatier funk jam allowing Cooper to get rapid and tongue-twisty in a way that only he knows how. Keep on pushing...

Review: Since first pricking the collective consciousness at the dawn of the decade, 12-piece ensemble Jungle Fire has released some killer fusions of funk, Afrobeat, and more tropical dancefloor flavours. Jambu is their second full-length, following the release of acclaimed debut album Tropicoso in 2014. As vibrant, colourful and hedonistic as you'd expect, it sees the Los Angeles' band lay down a series of scorching original compositions built around heavy funk grooves, bold Afrobeat horns, and the kind of intricate, layered percussion more often found in vintage Cuban dance music. As usual, you'll find nods to numerous South American styles amongst the Afro-funk throw-downs, ensuring a set that doesn't settle on one sound for any significant length of time.

Gator Jerky (3:28)
Ain't Got Time For That (feat Florelie Escano) (3:00)
Review: Damn fine UK funk of the rawest, freshest order, rising London troupe King Rooster lay down two scorching and authentic jams. "Gator Jerky" is full of Louisianan flavour and meat. Swampy, driving, and relentless, it's a full-on instrumental gumbo. Vocalist Florelie Escano joins the party for the equally forthright and sweaty "Ain't Got Time For That". Three minute power punches with that serious live feel to the recordings, King Rooster are in this for the long run.

Paul Withey - "Zodiac" (3:48)
Kali Boog - "Dreams Of You" (3:11)
NightMoves - "Not Tonight" (5:22)
Review: Marketed as a "funky laboratory trying to deliver the positive vibes", Germany's Born To Shine imprint is now a reliable and incredibly accessible source for the best in contemporary funk, soul and that buzzword we sometimes refer to as 'jazz-dance'. This new compilation, Funk'n'Shine, is the imprint's testament to the enlarged genre of funk, and all of its associated sub genres and parallel influences. Six cuts means six fine, house-relied excursions that meander into jazz, breakbeat and beyond; our picks have to be L33's cosmic boogie stepper "I Care 4 You", Paul Whitey's insanely funky house melter ""Zodiac", Kali Boog's downtempo electro swings on "Dreams Of You", and Nightmoves' excellent house trip "Not Tonight". What a tidy lil' TIP this is!
