Review: Jungle veteran Dom Angus has been around the block a fair few times in the last 17 years. Here he recalls his formative years with an album inspired by the halcyon years of drum and bass: the 1990s. Unlike previous sets, this fifth full-length is an entirely solo effort. Cut free from collaborators, Angus is able to fully let loose in his own inimitable style. In practice, this means a loose, rough-and-collection of growling bangers that gleefully harks back the jungle's golden age whilst retaining one eye on contemporary dancefloors. For those who've followed his career to date, The Big Bang is a refreshing blast from the past.

Review: Times and trends change, but Crazy P just keep rolling on. Their formula has altered a little over the years - from disco-inclined deep house to deep house-inclined disco - but the basic principles remain the same: breezy, festival-friendly songs delivered with gusto by their ever-excitable front woman. To be fair, When We On shows signs of definite development, not least in the Human League-sampling "Changes", scattergun "Beatbox" and blissfully Balearic "Twisted" (akin to a modern take on Imagination's "So Good, So Right"). There's also more house than disco this time round, reflecting the sound of recent solo projects of Baron and Todd. When We On remains very much a Crazy P record, though, something that should appease their growing legion of fans.

Review: Given the length of his career, it's perhaps surprising that this is Roman Flugel's first album under his own name. Fatty Folders finds him in fine form, building on the success of his recent Dial 12" singles via a series of cuts that largely show him at the peak of his powers. While there are nods to some of his more celebrated deep house and hypnotic techno productions, Fatty Folders is musically far more playful than much of his output. At times it sounds like Flugel's take on early Orbital, at others more like a typically Teutonic fusion of Detroit futurism and Plone-ish synthscapes. Most satisfyingly, it remains thoroughly entertaining throughout. Flugel-funk anyone?

Review: Like much of his previous work, Gui Boratto's simply-titled third album is an album of glaring contrasts. On one hand, there's the slow, pulsating, Krautrock-influenced atmosphere of opener "Galuchat", muffled electronica of "Trap", unfeasibly gorgeous "Flying Trap" and string-laden Balearic blast that is "Third". On the other, there's the twisted techno darkness of "Stems From Hell", minimal funk of "Destination Education" and grumpy paranoia of "The Drill". That these disparate strains not only work together but also make perfect sonic sense is testament to the Brazilian's immense skill as a producer. For this reason alone, III is his most accomplished work to date.

Review: Claremont 56 & Leng label boss Paul "Mudd" Murphy has assembled an impressive cast for this remixed version of Phil Mison's decidedly downtempo - sorry, Balearic - Out Of Town LP. Murphy himself offers up a pleasingly languid take on "Paloma", before handing over the reigns to a succession of similarly minded pals. There's a delicious Balearic dub of "Des Vertes" from Cosmodelica, a sprightly nu-disco rub of "Gambarra" from regular Mison cohort Pete Herbert, a delightfully Scandolearic excursion from Blackbelt Andersen and floor-friendly takes from the Idjuts and Ray Mang. Best of all, though, is Tiago's druggy, synth-heavy version of "Visusu", which sounds like a vivid dream involving Quiet Village and a carload of acid-fried evangelists.

Review: Walls self-titled debut set was one of the surprise success stories of 2010, a joyously atmospheric set that somehow felt both gloriously old-fashioned and unashamedly current. Here the London-based production duo continue their rapid ascent with a second impressive full-length full of dreamy, otherwordly cuts that variously reference slow trance, ambient, avant indie, wide-eyed electronica, cosmic disco and techno - often at the same time. It's gloriously sumptuous stuff, shuffling between intense Balearic beauty and quiet contemplation with consummate ease. If you're anything like us, it'll make your heart sing. Highly recommended.

Review: Amazingly, it's been a decade since Will Holland first caused waves with The 5th Exotic, his versatile and eccentric debut album as Quantic. Since then, he's charged off in many different directions, conjuring up multiple bands and aliases (Quantic Soul Orchestra, Combo Barbaro, The Limp Twins, Flowering Inferno) to satisfy his various musical desires (everything from heavyweight soul, slacker funk and jazz breaks to Latin, Afro and tropical beats). This first Best Of compilation touches on all these musical strands and more, offering a balanced career overview that really rattles along. All the big tracks are present, alongside long-forgotten early gems ("Life In The Rain", "Super 8") and a smattering of unreleased cuts.

Review: Dave Jones has always been one of UK bass music's innovators, variously flitting between two-step, four-four garage, broken beat and twisted experimentalism. There are plenty of similarly impressive musical shifts on Jones' first Zed Bias full-length since 2007, an all-star bash that features as many big name collaborators as it does musical surprises. So, we get Toddla T lending a hand on the mutant P-funk jam "Koolade", Mark Pritchard dropping by to bust some tropical-rave steps on "Trouble In The Streets" and Skream wobbling it out on the Maddslinky-ish "Badness". Best of all, though, is the Falty DL hook-up "Lucid Dreams", a deliciously addictive and forward-thinking meeting of minds. Impressive stuff... as usual.

Review: Synthesizer fetishist Antoni Maiovvi has always had a thing for B-movie soundtracks and odd Italian horror films. Previously there have been subtle nods towards these influences in his work, but here he's gone a step further, effectively creating soundtracks to two imaginary TV a series. There's certainly a grandiose, filmic feel to Battlestar Transreplica's two standout tracks, the coolly creepy 16-minute opener "Martian Time Slip" and unfeasibly beautiful closer "I Offer Unto Thee Something Beautiful, Something Burnt". While Trial By Bullet's Italo-centric tracks are decidedly cleaner, crisper and, ultimately, deliciously joyous, they still retain a grandiose, cinematic feel.

Review: Montreal-based downtempo duo Flowers & Sea Creatures are an odd but inviting proposition. Fusing the Thom Yorke-ish vocals of singer/songwriter Graham Baxter with the subtle alt-electronica explorations of producer Kosta Megalos, they have a sound that rarely fits neatly into any one pigeonhole. This debut album features a mix of traditional semi-acoustic fare, bubbling techno-influenced songscapes and slo-mo deep house (including productions by The Revenge and Ewan Pearson). That it hangs together impressively is testament to the duo's skill. Comparisons with Radiohead are a little off the mark but certainly relevant; if Thom Yorke and co were inspired by European deep house rather than crunchy British electronica, they may sound a little like this.

Review: Having made his debut on Gilles Peterson's Brownswood imprint, Ben Westbeech has transferred to US house behemoth Strictly Rhythm for this long-promised sophomore. It's the dance music equivalent of a big-money transfer, something that's reflected in the quality of the Bristol-based songsmith's collaborators this time around. Motor City Drum Ensemble, Henrik Schwarz, Lovebirds, hometown heroes Redlight, Georg Levin, Chocolate Puma, Midland and Rasmus Faber all lend a hand, adding their own soul, jazz-funk, disco and house twists to Westbeech's infectious songs. Given the eclectic nature of the cast list, it's a pleasant surprise to find that the album holds together impressively, with Westbeech's brilliant vocals naturally providing the necessary sonic glue

Review: Over the years, Lack of Afro producer Adrian Gibbons has proved adept at knocking out both shamelessly upbeat party fodder and carefully crafted songs laden with raw emotion. This third album - his second for Freestyle - gives ample weight to both, presenting a pleasing mix of scratchy soul (check the Northern Soul revivalism of "Fool" and "What The Hell"), horn-heavy Afrobeat, piano-laden anthems ("Holding My Breath"), Aim-ish hip-hop instrumentals and balls-out funk breaks messiness (the suitably fat "P.A.R.T.Y"). That it remains entertaining and highly polished throughout reflects Gibbons' growing skill as a producer. Basically, he's really nailed it This Time.

Review: Despite their inactivity in recent years, New York post punk/dancefloor fusionists The Rapture are still box office. Now back on DFA as a three-piece, there's a confident swagger to In The Grace Of Your Love that was largely missing from 2006's Pieces Of People We Love. Check the grandiose opener "Sail Away", recent single "How Deep Is Your Love" or the grubby, far-out rocker "Blue Bird" - all boast that in-your-face funkiness and raw power that marked out their early work. Sure, there are a few musical curveballs (check the pompous balladeering of "The Roller Coaster" or bluesy "It Takes Time To Be A Man"), but for the most part it's an album oozing with traditional Rapture fare - and there's little more fun than that.

Review: A belated return to record stores for the most bonkers woman in music, as her acclaimed 2008 album Hurricane gets the re-release treatment. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of this double CD set isn't the original album, which for those who missed out, is well worth a listen - but rather the second CD of dubbed versions. It sees original producer Ivor Guest revisit the tracks in a traditional dub style, emphasizing basslines, stripping back the grooves and drenching Jones' vocals in echo, delay and reverb. For the most part, it's a total overhaul that really works, recalling Jones' fruitful collaborations with Sly & Robbie at Compass Point studios in the tropical early '80s Bahamas.
