“Dubmaster” Marcos Fernández, a.k.a. Dj Voodoo, is a 36-year-old artist, Dj and producer, head of Cosmica, a record label focused on promoting electronic musicians from Patagonia, Argentina, He will be touring Mexico and California this year, seeking warmer latitudes for his sound.
In his own words “there is a true and deep cultural role that Djs have to embrace and that is to bring out to the world all that fascinating music and visual art that escapes the mainstream and lives in the underground independent progressive movement. We need to be more eclectic, experimental, crossing over styles and genres, and give the people the experience of traveling through time and space”.
His beginning as a Disc Jockey go back to the early 90’s, when in Argentina the dance music scene was influenced by UK’s Garage, Detroit Techno and Chicago House, as well as Italo Disco.
When he moved to Buenos Aires in 1995 to become a Computer System Analyst at University of Belgrano, he connected the missing link by studying guitar and music production “I had the opportunity to play with amazing musicians and that expanded the scope of my music appreciation and sensitivity. Djing also evolved to include live percussion and guitar licks. The accessible Pentium processor and the first CD burners brought digital sound processing and editing to the home studio with decent quality, so we started playing our own versions and remixes of disco, house and techno classics. The first unofficial Cosmica tracks were being played at underground venues like Ave Porco and the more exclusive clubs like Pacha and Divino”.
When asked about how he took his career abroad, he said, “My first international gig happened by accident. I was on a holiday in Ixtapa, Mexico in 1996, when I walked into the Liquid Lounge with a case full of demo mixes and Cosmica tracks and convinced the DJ to let me play a few songs. The club was empty on a Saturday night
