  1. Lemonlime (10:25)
  2. Sof N Thik (5:55)
Review: Leron Carson may not be the best-known Midwest producer, but he has history. Carson's first release came way back in 2001, with Theo Parrish putting out a track he'd recorded way back in 1987 and has appeared on Sound Signature intermittently over the years. This new 12" from Carson for Theo's label is HEAVY! "Lemonline" is a deliciously breezy concoction, with Carson's jazzy piano riffs working in perfect unison with bouncy, Latin-influenced drum rhythms. Flipside "Sofnthik", on the other hand, sounds like a previously unheard 1980s Chicago deep house concoction, with warm, loved-up chords swirling around a clattering drum machine groove. Whether it was recorded 30 years ago is unknown, but it certainly boasts a similar lo-fi, analogue feel.

  4. Aether (6:50)
Review: It would be fair to say that Mr Fingers 2016 is something of an event release, at least for those who love deep house. While Larry Heard has kept busy - largely with remixes and reissues - this marks the first 12" release under his most famous moniker for over a decade. He begins in contemplative mood, fusing tumbling music box melodies, creepy electronics and nagging 303 lines on "Outar Acid", before laying down some typically blissful, atmospheric deep house on the wondrous "Qwazars". Flip for "Nodyahead", an effortless mixture of heavy dub-house bottom end, African-influenced percussion and moody late night refrains, and the ultra-deep, piano-laden bliss of "Aether".

  1. The Detroit Upright (6:21)
  2. Who We Are (6:17)
Review: Patrice Scott's long awaited debut album, Euphonium, was arguably one of the most underrated full-lengths of 2015. Happily, he's kept the quality threshold high for this follow-up EP. "The Detroit Upright" is particularly potent, with effortlessly smooth keys stretching out over rich chords and bumpin' deep house beats. On the flip, Scott doffs a cap to the hazy, jazz-funk influenced styles of 2000 Black, on the impeccable broken beat/deep house fusion cut, "Who We Are". Weighty at the bottom end, and blessed with both starry keys and delay-laden synth lines, it's the kind of track you could imagine Theo Parrish losing his shit to.

Review: Having contributed a stellar track to Gerd Janson's Musik For Autobahns 2 compilation, it's little surprise to see Leon Vynehall pop up on Running Back. Rojus (Designed To Dance) is an expansive affair, with eight tracks stretched across two slabs of wax. It's also predictably varied; contrast, for example, the drowsy ambient chords and twinkling electronics of opener "Beyond This", and the deep-jack-goes-rave sweatiness of "Beau Sovereign". Vynehall also finds space for the Balearic jazz-house swing of "Paradisea", the wall-of-sound Detroit deep house of "Blush", and the African influenced drum workout "...There Is You". In other words, it's a versatile cracker.

Review: Byron The Aquarius resurfaced earlier this year after a nine-year absence, delivering the future jazz/deep house fusion of High Life on Sound Signature. This speedy follow-up on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats label is, if anything, even better. Warm, rich, soulful and evocative, it includes six superb cuts. These variously touch on off-kilter modern soul ("Co$mic $hit"), Herbie Hancock-influenced deep house (the jazz-funk synths, woozy chords and smooth beats of "Moments In Life"), intergalactic hip-hop beats (the impeccable "Space N Time"), blissfully Balearic house (the hazy positivity of "The Sun"), and jazz-influenced house rollers ("Better Tomorrow").

Review: To date, Jordan "Mall Grab" Alexander has barely put a foot wrong. Like many other Melbournian contemporaries, Alexander specializes in deep house that's variously deep, jazzy and dreamy, but always delightfully dusty. Happily, he touches on all three directions on this superb EP for Church. The jazz aspect comes to the fore on jaunty opener "Down", where vintage piano samples ride a swinging, bass-and-cymbal heavy groove. The Australian does his best Florist impression on the ultra-deep, bongo-driven bliss of "French Girls", while title track "Sun Ra" sounds like a tooled-up take on Pender Street Steppers' deepest moments. Finally, he combines effortless jazziness with bumpin' deepness on the standout "Can't".

Review: Quartet Series is a fresh imprint based between Milan and Amsterdam and run by Nachtbraker and KiSk. Inaugurating their new label is Crackazat (from Uppsala, Sweden) with his 80's pop- house excursion "Lindop Circles" (which is so lovably cheesy) and Saine with the deep and sexy slo-mo disco of "Prime Chops". On the flip there's also Nachtbreaker himself with "Totally Not Mystique" (which sounds like an outtake from the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack) and Gnork with "Chord Tool" which sounds like early Underground Resistance or 808 State.

Review: It's been a while since Detroit producer Javonntte last treated us to a collection of tracks, with his last fresh material dropping way back in 2008. Since, he's kept himself busy by playing instruments on records by Mike Grant's Cool Ppl project. There's much to admire on this five-track collection, from the fluid deep house bump of "Bounce" - whose killer bassline impressively drives things forward - and wavy late night positivity of "Chaka's Revenge", to the classic US deep house brightness of "My Life". The EP concludes with two versions of "These Words"; the super-soulful, vocal dreaminess of "Mix 3", and the similarly warm and comforting "Original Instrumental".

Review: On the back of an acclaimed LP on his own UMHS label, Freerotation resident Leif takes his woozy grooves and lush atmospherics for a trackier spin on Galdoors. "Macro Beat's" broken latin groove propels the A1 through layers of bubbling dub synths and twinkling atmospherics. "Moment Beat" shares the first track's club focus, but this time chimes unfurl over a low-slung groove that leaves things perfectly poised for a change in direction. On the B, "Tumbler"picks up the pace once more with highs and arpeggios that pulse and slide around each other restlessly, before "Untitled" wraps up with a beatless and beautiful flourish.

Review: Motor City Drum Ensemble man Danilo Plessow believes that this split 12", first released on Manchester's Rainy City Music 20 years ago, is one of the finest deep house records ever to emerge from the UK (he's not alone, either - Theo Parrish and Jeremy Underground are also fans). For this official reissue, all three tracks have been re-mastered from the original DAT tapes. City People's ten-minute "It's All In The Groove", where delay-laden percussion hits and sparkling, Si Brad style synth flashes ride a deliciously deep, disco-house groove, kicks things off in fine style. The other two tracks are solo efforts from City People man Irfan Hussain; both "A Lil Tribute To The Moody Black Keys" and "Jus' Nite Groovin" sound like classic Chez Damier productions.

Review: Mad Mats and Tooli's Local Talk imprint is back after a great release last time by Irish legends Fish Go Deep. This time around its the turn of Moscow's Alexander Lay-Far who after releasing two volumes of How I Communicate already this year, now releases the remixes of his dusty hip-hop influenced deep house. On the A side "Lock & Rock" gets a re-rub by the one and only Mr Scruff, whose dusty and low slung dope beat turns the track into a perfect Sunday afternoon accompaniment to a misspent youth in Berlin this summer. The vibes continue on the B side with NYC's Ge-Ology remixing "Like The First Time" doing his urban/high tech soul crossover so well once again: this one's pretty special we must say.

Review: Sound Signature's latest missive comes from Byron The Aquarius, a former Onra collaborator best known for his dusty trips into MPC beat-making territory. Here, the Atlanta-based producer successfully turns his hand to dusty, soul-flecked deep house, peppering the bumpin' groove of "Aquarian Voyage" with a toasty bassline and twinkling Rhodes motifs. It's the kind of hazy, jazz-flecked deep house that Sound Signature has always done better than almost anyone else. Flipside "Run Sa", featuring the fluid and intoxicating playing of drummer Dmitri Walker, is even better, with warm chords draping themselves over snappy snares, hissing cymbals and killer fills.

Here he pops up on Neroli again with more superb, soul-flecked dancefloor fare. "Don't Stop (Let It Go)" is particularly potent, offering a disco and jazz-funk influenced chunk of celebratory deep house laden with thrilling live instrumentation from members of "the 2000 Black family" (Tatham and others, basically). He completely flips the script on "Save It Till Later", a refreshingly rough and ready chunk of bass-heavy, acid-flecked house/techno fusion that benefits greatly for some particularly warped electronics. Darkness and light on one 12"; what's not to like?

Here, the Bristol-based imprint continues with its' successful split release formula, gathering together a quartet of tracks from up-and-coming producers. Here they change tack, serving up a four-track missive from experienced underground deep house producer DJ Aakmael. He begins with the chunky, bumpin' beats, twinkling melodies and drifting vocal samples of "Beautiphul" [sic], before exploring jazzier, looser pastures on the classic summery deep house flex of "13th Mood". His travels have taken him to labels like Local Talk, Boe, Quintessentials, and now the wonderful Mondelisme Records for what is perhaps his biggest moment yet. "Party Track" is remixed by NDATL boss and all round house music don Kai Alce, who transforms this cut into a delightful deep house scorcher with a bouncy, feel-good approach. The B-side contains the more swanky, bass-heavy waves of "Turn Out", followed by Anaxander's own Midnight In Malmousque mix of "Party Track", a dirtier and more sleazy version than Alce's. Sick.

Here's a second part of what he prefers to hear when things get interesting. From Motor City , a house legend like Alton Miller, gives us a gem with this detroit house sound. From the city of rising sun Miruga makes an elegant, jazzy and groovy awesome track. And from Spain two deep house masters . On the one hand Jesus Gonsev brings a tasty bass and juicy string. Mayanja's Ugandan heritage is referenced on the deep, evocative, soft focus, Afro-house opener "Even In The Darkness We See", before she layers up rich Rhodes chords, dreamy pads and broken rhythms on the similarly luscious "Right Around The Corner". Of course it helps when you have the likes of Four Tet, Pearson Sound, Midland and Gilles Peterson championing your cause! O'Flynn was responsible for the first Blip release and he's back for this third 12", teeing off with the full throttle blast of conga rhythms, heaving sub bass and tribal chanting that is "Oberyn".
