Prisoner Of Your Love
Stuck
Echoes Of Your Mind
Body Of One
Time By Your Side
Magic Touch
Freak For Your Love
Caruso's Monkey House
Floating World
Review: Brothers Simon and Robin Lee have long excelled at the album format, delivering occasional sets that ripple with impressive musicality, sinewy strings, cozy downtempo moods and upbeat dancefloor moments. Body of One, their fourth full length (their first dropped on Nuphonic back in 1997), continues this trend, offering a compelling trip through the pair's myriad influences. After opening with a sweaty post-punk thumper ("Prisoner of Your Love"), we're variously treated to Italo-influenced vintage house ("Magic Touch"), rubbery disco-funk ("Freak For Your Love"), Arthur Russell-influenced tropical downtempo pop ("Caruso's Monkey House"), dreamy Balearica ("Floating World") and string-laden gorgeousness. As for the title track, it sounds like So-era Peter Gabriel.

Taana Gardner - "Paradise Express" (unreleased version)
Frequency - "Loosen Up /Home Cooking" (unreleased version)
Dee Dee Sharp - "Hot Fun" (unreleased version)
Review: Arguably one of the first ever dubplate labels, Sunshine Sound was home to limited runs of DJ-friendly versions throughout the 70s and early 80s. Most are long gone, but the "Unreleased Version" series continues to unearth the existing gems. Having previously dusted off a very special version of Candido, they return with three more exclusive rubs; a super-slinky boogie take of Taana Gardner's 1979 "Paradise Express", a thriving, drum-heavy take on the lolloping bass jam "Loosen Up" and the piano-slapping strutting "Hot Fun" where Dee Dee Sharp's vocals provide the ultimate sensuous showdown. As limited as the original acetate presses, this needs urgent attention.

Inner Life - "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" (M+M acappella dub mix with Patrick Adams reprise)
Salsoul Orchestra - "You're Just The Right Size" (M+M Vince Montana Tribute dub mix)
Review: Record Store Day Edition: Morales and Munzibal's seminal edit art was enjoyed by pretty much every essential name in dancefloor music during the 80s and early 90s. From the Stones to the Commodores, no one escaped the M&M touch. And these are two perfect examples; Inner Life's classic "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" is given a solid, rhythmic polish and boasts elements of the previously rare Patrick Adams take. Elsewhere the duo pay homage to Philly soul legend Vince Montana as their version of Salsoul Orchestra lets the strings breathe with serious drama and dynamic.

Late Train (Idjut Boy Late Brain version)
The Visitor (Ray Mang mix)
Late Train (Emperor Machine special extended version - vocal)
Late Train (Emperor Machine special extended version - instrumental)
Review: Nurtured by Mudd and owners of their own stunning live band, Paqua should really deliver more Balearic bliss than they have. As we wait tentatively for more heartfelt, organic sun-kissed soul, Claremont 56 have commissioned some incredible remixes... "Late Train" gets a full cosmic treatment from the Idjut Boys while Emperor Machine takes it down a dark alley and roughs it up with a series of analogue synth slaps. Ray Mang, meanwhile, focuses on the dreamiest aspects of "The Visitor" and rearranges and polishes them in a way that's reminiscent of a certain Andrew Ashong. Stunning.

Get On Up (Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee edit)
Need U (Ed Wizard & Disco Double Dee edit)
Review: Consummate editors Ed Wizard and Disco Double Dee let loose with two more finely crafted disco reversions. "Get On Up" takes T.S Monk's disco funk classic "Get On Up & Dance" and gives it a full strength contemporisation with big hip-snapping beats that forge a groove that stomps well into the next century. "Need U", meanwhile, is a more subtle take complete with an infectious series of loops and cosmic overtones. Both absolutely kill it.

The J's - "When Did You Stop" (Al Kent Disco version)
Sandy Barber - "I Think I'll Do Some Stepping On My Own" (Al Kent Classic vocal mix)
Review: Record Store Day Edition: Al Kent knows his disco edits like we know how to breath, instinctively and naturally. Refocusing the emphasis on all the best aspects while paying complete respect to the original, he's a bona fide editing don. And these are two fine examples: The J's 1979 string-laced soul piece gets the full 4/4 treatment with tight loopy percussion that teases with neat groove drama. On the B we look to Sandy Barber for inspiration. Taken from her 1978 album Best Is Yet To Come, here Al's magic is found in the lolloping groove extension and slight twist on that insatiable bass runs. Two perfect treatments, one seriously essential Record Store Day 12".

Hibiscus Pacific (remaster)
Hibiscus Pacific (Sorcerer's "Whisper" mix)
Hibiscus Pacific (Jaques Renault remix)
Hibiscus Pacific (Moon B remix)
Review: Beautiful beach music from Green Linez 2012 album Things That Fade, everything about "Hibiscus Pacific" sparkles and ripples with Balearic sonic majesty. Remix-wise Sorcerer adds a slightly heavier beat and a spell-binding series of arpeggios, Jaques Renault takes us deeper into the dance with a cool sense of techno infectiousness by way of nagging hi-hats and spooked out stretches and Moon B kicks it old school with a New Atlantic style 808 jam that fits the original synth lines like a well-tailored suit. Highly limited, this is not to be missed!

Cheree
Dream Baby Dream
Review: Emotional Rescue is delighted to announce bringing together two classic Suicide songs reinterpreted by avant-garde pop auteur Angel Corpus Christi. Recorded as part of Angel's personal take on the Downtown NYC scene, this release brings her cover versions of this cult band on one dedicated release for the first time. Singer, songwriter and accordionist, Angel Corpus Christi has carved out a niche all her own, releasing 5 albums and numerous singles that highlight her oft-nonchalant musings over off kilter production and a post-punk-pop aesthetic. Her debut album - "I LOVE NY" was a concept collection celebrating the ground breaking music formed and released in New York during it's pre and post punk heyday of the late 60 to early 80s. Taking in the inspiration from the original punk sounds of the Velvet Underground through to her own re-take of Theme From Taxi Driver, as well as punk standards like Blank Generation, the album has become a cult classic itself. Within this collection though contained two stand-out gems in Angel's covers of Suicide's Cheree and Dream Baby Dream. For some these songs represent the high mark of Alan Vega and Martin Rev's special and ground breaking partnership and in original form have a special place in this label's heart. Featuring no less than Alan Vega on backing vocals, plus life-time partner Bruce Anderson on guitar and produced by Howard Thompson, "I Love Baby" is itself a homage from Emotional Rescue to Suicide and will hopefully be appreciated as a special release in due course.

Padacelsus
Review: Editainment invite new friends Shangri & La to the fold for four slabs of subverted timeless disco. Highlights abound across the multi-faceted foursome: "Paracelsus" is an out and out electro stamper that looks back to early Black Strobe, "Percacelsus" is all about the meditative bongo funk fusion, "Rudeacelus" is a funk-flecked wonky skank groove while "Padacelsus" ends us on a touching emotive high that's not far off an old Larry Heard track.

Down In California (Psychemagik edit)
Review: Record Store Day Edition: Many people who indulged in the Magik Cyrkles compilation Psychemagik put together for Leng last year will have enjoyed immensely the Albion edit of KingCats cut "Down In California". According to the label, Frisbee founder Albion floated the idea of doing an exclusive 12" package around the KingCats tweak when Psychemagik got in touch to licence it for the compilation and it's great to see it come to fruition here. This limited edition 12" also features a rework from Magik Cyrklescompilers Psychemagik who kick up the drums and extend the parts purely for the dancefloor. Pressed exclusively for Record Store Day with hand numbered sleeves and artwork by Luke Insect.

Review: Moon B takes it back to the old school that is PPU! Atlanta-based analogue funkateer Wes Gray made his debut proper as Moon B back in 2012 on People's Potential Unlimited, and has since found further acclaim with a killer EP for London label Going Good and releases as Vaib-R and Sean Sanders for Nous and Hot Mix. Andrew Morgan's PPU has always been something of a home base for Moon B material however, with several other cross format releases in recent times. The suitably titled II is the second Moon B long player and pulls eight tracks from the home studio recordings of Wes Gray made over the past few years with that signature "slank rhythms and cutting basslines you've grown accustomed to" present and correct!

Planets
Me Like You (feat Georgia Anne Muldrow)
Review: The follow up to his very successful collabo EP "Love Based Music", Ava boss Von Erckert delivers another supreme spread that tickles every righteous corner of the dance. From the euphoric afro-chant fusion and trembling star-gazing arpeggios of "Planets" to the emphatic filtered, loopy house soul of "Me Like You" via the chop-slapping techno stomp of "Jack Ryder", this is the deepest Von Erckert has ever dug. He even reminds us that he was ahead of the classic house revival curve with an update on 2011's "Housem". Make no mistakes: this is one of life's very very nice things!

Tribute (Machete Savane remix)
Review: Latest IIB release features the North Easts version of CSN Last Waltz. A double header, The first track Just Hold On is a collaboration between Last Waltz & Smoove. Heartfelt vocals over a pastoral rolling chugger, deep bassline folky guitar strumming making this a favourite at IIB HQ. On the remix Ess O Ess raise the tempo a little bring out the electric guitars and increasing the chug to almost Krautrock levels. On the Flip side Last waltz give us Tribute. A deep atmospheric acid affair. Mellow electric keys and percussion lull you into a false sense of security before the heavy kick and acid bassline drop with dark cello notes. Machete Savane take on the remix. Replacing acid for guitar and adding some machine groove this slowly builds and builds into a top bubbler.

If It Ever Feels Right (Tornado Wallace remix)
Review: Dublab affiliates and current no-wave dons Pharaohs return to Lovefingers ESP Institute label to get the dancefloor treatment. The Another Beach version forges the sedate lollops of "Ahumbo" into a lush bass groove that's laced with infectious percussion and majestic splashes of instrumentation that build dynamically and hypnotically. Tornado Wallace's take on "If It Ever Feels Right" is even more floor-focussed thanks to its arpeggiated bass twist and Ame-style construction. Spellbinding.

Stretchin Gretchen
Review: It's often said by platitude lovers that good things come to those that wait, but that's certainly the case with Norm De Plume's Plumage label. Inaugurated by the London based DJ and producer back in 2011, Norm's taken his time and finally issues a second Plumage 12" much to the joy of discerning discotheque selectors everywhere. The signature NDP slow-build is in full effect on "Ohio Replayed", a deep, sparse groover that chugs and swings in all the right places before revealing it's source material. On the B Side "Stretchin' Gretchen" sounds like a doped up Ron Hardy going to town on some Brazilian Disco.

Review: Munich record store turned label Public Possession return with a fourth 12" offering and a second release from Australian producer Bell Towers. If you were lucky enough to grip Lightrail, Rohan Bruce Bell-Towers PP debut of last year, you'll no doubt have been impressed by the progression in sound and ideas from his earlier material for Internasjonal and Hole In The Sky. Listening to the five tracks that make up Territory, the now London-based producer's new EP, it's clear the Bell Towers sound has matured even more. There's thick analogue techno, classic Chicago house and Italo disco influences at play here, but it's all finished off with those little production nuances that set Bell Towers apart. The mind bending slow burner "Jungle Of My Mind" is a stand out track.

I Can Count On You (Boogie Un-Plugged)
Micolynn (With Love)
Review: Four stunning disco gems from the Chicago motherland, across the EP Boogie Nite caters for all aspects of the dance... "Boogie's Silowette" is a jaunty boogie funk workout laced with an array of psychedelic keys, jazz horns and a thumping bass groove, "By The Way U Dance" is a falsetto-fuelled disco strutter and "Micolynn" is a more organic, jazz-funk escapade into the dreamiest of quarters. The real highlight, however, is the lounge-lazing take on Candi Staton's classic "You Got The Love". Authentic subverted soul, this will have you boogying for a long, long time.
