  1. Disco 4000 (Witness The Future) (7:05)
  2. So-Lar (7:08)
  3. Vanmannans Answer (feat Nuron) (7:59)
Review: Steve Pickton aka Stasis is behind this young and already essential Fencepiece label and now he offers up the first ever stasis release. All three tunes are perfect examples of UK techno from a genuine innovator of the form. 'Disco 4000' pairs rubbery kicks with wet claps and bulbous bass for a nice warm groove, while 'So-LAr' has a more prickly and kinetic feel thanks to the trippy cosmic melodies. Last of all, fellow legend Nuron gets in on the fun for 'Vanmannans Answer' which is all twisted bass and warped synths to melt the mind.

  1. The Struggle (7:17)
  2. Save The Children (5:22)
  3. Save The Children (Detroit mix) (6:15)
Review: Robert and Lyric Hood return to M-Plant with more surefire techno under their Floorplan alias, the former bringing in 2020 with the poignant and politically charged track 'The Struggle'. Featuring a powerful speech by Tamika Mallory at the Minneapolis riots, its call to action is backed by a cerebral groove soaked in 303 acid. 'Save The Children' on the B-side is more typical of the Floorplan alias with its funky and infectious disco loops. The original mix is low slung yet uplifting, while the fierce and pummeling Detroit mix is aimed squarely at the peak time dancefloor - once again executed in expert mode.

  3. HYD V2 (5:07)
Review: Truncate is celebrated by his fellow DJs for the grand power and impact of his drums. However he shapes them, they cannot fail to arrest the attention of any dance floor. This outing on his own Truncate label is another fine example crafted alongside Dotdat. There is a trippy Detroit melodic minimalism to 'PNQ V1' that will tie your mind in knots, then 'HYD V1' layers up jacking drum loops that never resolve with edgy synth pulses. It's tense and unrelenting techno for late night experiences and to close, 'HYD V2' brings more raw and wild textures to the ever-pounding kick drums. Devastating stuff.

  3. Hard To Kill (6:45)
Review: Robert Hood kicks off his M Plant label's 2021 with a big return for the Perpetual Masters series, with his Underestimated EP. The series is designed to serve up classic back catalogue tackle that has all been newly remastered and made available on vinyl, digital download and streaming. This one came out originally in 1998 and is a powerful and futuristic now as it was back then. 'Black Man's Word' is crispy, driving techno, 'Sleep Is The Cousin Of Death' offers scintillating synth work and 'Hard To Kill' traps you in dark loops.

  2. Ocean (dub) (5:38)
  3. Sunlight (6:31)
Review: Hot on the heels of his rather good CYCLOPS TRX two-tracker, which featured a sublime 14-minute chunk of chiming techno brilliance, Levon Vincent offers up a speedy sequel o the Novel Sound label he founded way back in 2008. He begins in moody fashion via the dark, creeping title track, 'Riding Alongside The Ocean', where woozy, foghorn-esque synthesizer tones and creepy cymbal patterns ride a post-apocalyptic techno groove. Over on the flip, he delivers a remarkable translation of the same cut - the more percussive, bass-heavy and oddly jazzy 'Ocean (Dub)' - before putting on a happy face and unleashing the cheery, synth-heavy piano house/deep house fusion that is 'Sunlight'.

  15. The Spirit World (4:32)
Review: Detroit techno legend Jeff Mills has suggested that his new conceptual opus should be experienced in isolation, free of noise and visual distractions and listened to in its entirety. Like its name may suggest, The Clairvoyant has an arcane, mystical and somewhat understated quality throughout. Opening cut the 'The Seance' has that chiming and hypnotic style of trance induction familiar from most of his other work on Axis, other times venturing into knackered, off-kilter territory as heard on 'Someone Who Feels Things' and at other opportunities exploring similarly unusual time signatures, textures and moods as heard on the mesmerising trilogy 'Three Signs From The Other Side'. More upbeat, groove based experiments you've come to know from Mills (and which will similarly appeal to DJs) can be heard on the majestic 'Questions, Decisions And Consequences' or the typically syncopated rhythms of 'Ganzfeld Experiments'. In a word, magnificent.

Review: In recent interviews, Paul Woolford AKA Special Request has made it clear that he's long dreamed of being asked to contribute to K7's long-running DJ Kicks mix series. It should come as no surprise, then, that his volume in the series is little less than stunning. Constructed as a slowly unfurling, constantly evolving musical journey interspersed with ambient interludes and specially created Special Request cuts, the set sees Woolford work his way through synth-soul, 21st century boogie, electro and IDM before moving on to classic house, techno, acid house, hardcore, jungle and, in its closing moments, a stunning, spacey synth-scape he wrote in cahoots with fellow Yorkshireman 96 Back. Throughout, Woolford's focus remains on mood, melody and tone. A simply stunning mix made by a master craftsman.

Review: The Wigflex label, born out of a peerless, many-limbed operation in Nottingham, has been a little dormant of late. The last release, 2015's Wigflex City Monsters compilation, came out as a limited edition toy and cassette double pack - this is a crew who like to do things differently. Now they're back, presenting the relatively unknown Son Of Philip, whose sound features the kind of full-frequency synth warbles that might well trigger latent Border Community fans. Across three original tracks, Son Of Philip explores a sensitive sound which feels like a comfy fit on Wigflex. To keep things spicy though, the mighty Actress steps up on the B2 to deliver a dusty, thumping techno version of 'Rubber Stamp'.

Review: Adam Beyer's esteemed Drumcode imprint continues on with the ever reliable A Sides series, and we're now up to Vol 10 - the third of a five part vinyl series. The first side belongs to Victor Ruiz's expression in peak time dancefloor drama called 'Love Story' where a breathtaking female vocals plays centre stage alongside a snarling Reese bassline and typically tough as nails techno rhythms. On the flip, more warehouse style aesthetics await on Ilija Djokovic's adrenalised 'Equilibrium' which will no doubt have the punters trancing out under the strobe light, as well as Veerus' euphoric main room offering 'I Know' closing out an impressive package.

  4. Trapid (6:49)
Review: Zwen makes a strong impression as they circumnavigate the stars to impart their strain of machine music. This first release on Trapid has little to no reference point, placing all the focus on the tunes contained within. "Space Zone" aptly launches this mission in a muscular fashion with a hefty kick and some strafing synth blasts, while "Etching" gets tangled up in a more tightly wound loop with a raw, deliciously early 90s finish. "Restriction" keeps things stripped back, but it's certainly still orbiting the same quadrant as the other tracks. "Trapid" switches focus by embracing a more dub techno-informed approach, and Zwen does a masterful job of capturing that vibe too.

Review:  There is a reason Mark Broom is still so revered in techno circles after all these years. He has a knack for sound design and crafting such powerful kicks that his tunes are always irresistible to both DJs and dancers. He offers up two more high grade weapons here for the second release on Beard Man. First is the maximal minimalism of the bendy 'Loop 132' with its glitchy hits and undulating synths, then comes the more driving and uplifting dub techno banger 'Loop 131.' The titles of these tunes make you wonder just how many of these this man has sitting on his computer ready to go.

Review: You can always rely on Tusk Wax to cook up raw, edgy grooves that pander to no-one and nothing. Antoni Maiovvi is a long time electronic outlier whose original material is under the microscope here with a series of remixes. Dutch wonder Legowelt goes first with a pixelated, sci-fi version of 'Magickal' before 'Younger Then Me' heads back to the 90s for a glistening melodic house rave up. There's a silky sense of hypnosis to the Hardway Brothers' version of 'Drip Gold' that gets right under your skin, while DJ Squid's Sweaty Remix of 'Emotional Trigger' is a frictionless jungle work out that darts about all over the place.

Review: A year on from its hard hitting debut, French label Saike returns with a second sizzling offering of no frills bangers. Once again it comes from the duo of Viper Diva who mix up rave, techno and trance into shiny, maximal tunes. 'Alice' is a real stomper, with trippy chords up top and turbo charged kicks, while 'Horny Consequences' is very much not sexy in anyway, but it sure is powerful thanks to the over driven drums and ghoulish vocals. 'Snake Does Cry (Unpolished mix)' close son a big euro-trance vibe, which is sure to send hands in the air.

  2. Phobia (re-plant) (5:35)
Review: The latest transmission of M Plant's 20th Anniversary celebrations sees label boss Robert Hood come through with some self styled 'replants' of recent Floorplan material. "Never Grow Old" of course originates from Hood's triumphant 2013 Floorplan LP Paradise, arriving midway through and impressive enough to feature in Ben Klock's Fabric mix. Here the gospel vibes remain but they are complemented by a searing Motor City key line that is really quite hypnotic over it's seven minute duration. Complementing this is a replant of "Phobia", one of Hood's last releases of 2013 which evens out the hoover rave overtones of the original in favour of some trippy synth loops that prove just as effective.

Review: Party starting Berlin trio ItaloJohson have only ever aimed to serve up music to jack the floor. Their own self-titled outlet for this weaponry is now up to a 14th instalment and still it sounds fresh and inventive. These are three more robust tracks with 'track 2' particularly getting us going - the bleeping synth riffs, glitchy hi hats and vast, booming kicks are pure basement dynamite. The same can be said of the rock slid 'Track 3' which also has some slippery acid lines weaving in and out of the rugged drums. This is form and functioning coming together in perfect harmony.

Here his cult 'Hyaline' EP gets a welcome reissue on Re:discovery Germany. 'Sunflower' is a new age awakening with yawning synths announcing the arrival of a spring day over shimmering drums, and the blissed out vibes continue on 'Human 2'. It's all smeared pads and soft melodies, warped bass and post-rush comedown feels that sooth the soul. There is a more twisted vibe and sense of dance floor intensity on 'Moonflower' but it's back to heady dreams and otherworldly atmospheres on ' Counterglow', deep thumping techno on 'Dive' and lush ambient design on 'Dahlia.'

This time out he lands on OMEN Recordings and once again pulls no punches, with 'We'll Rave Again' a high energy techno roller with molten minimal chords and tough, steel plated drums doing all the hard work. It comes with two remixes - one by UK veteran Perc who adds caustic synths and machine gun synth fire and one by Axkan who builds up a huge layer of techno that keeps you rooted to the spot. 'Insane Sends' straddles deep house and dub techno perfectly, with static sounds fizzing over the surface of the tight, icy synths while the drums roll deep. It's perfectly produced stuff before 'Some Fall Harder Than Others' sinks even deeper into an oceanic abyss on puddles of synth and deeply buried kicks that pulse beautifully. Sven's mix completes this terrific dub triptych.

Review: Peder Mannerfelt rarely fails to bring the goods, and his latest missive for VOAM is as impressive as expected. Beginning with a titanic slab of percussion-laden Afro-techno (the frankly brilliant 'Year of the Rats'), the Stockholm-based artist charges between sweaty, loose-limbed industrial techno (the charged-up, Test Dept-on-steroids heaviness of 'Toms For Life'; buzzing, child-scaring insanity (the fuzzy intensity of 'Squarewave to Heaven'); dystopian ambient soundscapes (the almost cinematic creepiness of 'The Hudson Lament'); and skittish, sub-heavy, mind-altering electronica (bizarre-but-brilliant closing cut 'Sail On Silverboy'). In other words, it's another essential selection of clandestine club cuts and strange, sofa-bound treats from one of Sweden's most reliable producers.
