Review: Two of the most successful artists to take drum & bass into the mainstream in the last 10 years; Sub Focus & Wilkinson could have so easily created a collection of big hands in the air bangers and satisfied a lot of fans. But instead they've taken things a little deeper and created an album that's more explorative and soft focus than you might expect. The main flavour is much a floatier, silky style that weaves between trancey sing-alongs such as 'Air I Breathe' to bigger clubbier cuts like 'Illuminate' by way of non-drum & bass adventures such as the twinkling Get Physical hip wriggles of 'Alone' and the Bicep-flexing cloud surfer 'Stratus'. Landing while clubs are still shutdown for the foreseeable, the timing of this is perfect.

Hide (6:08)
Morning Time (4:32)
Review: Two delicious slabs of Goodlooking-style timelessness right here from longstanding veteran Madcap. 'Hide' hits with a PFM-esque breeziness to it with twinkling arpeggios and subtle slices of surging diva vocals while 'Morning Time' surges us into the night with a much heavier groove. Full-on amens, urgent vocal one-shots, raw edits and a subtle funk that wouldn't have sounded out of place at Swerve back in 2000, Madcap knows the science and the soul.

Madness (feat Robert Manos) (3:59)
Review: Seven years after he presented it to the world, Swedish don Seba finally serves up his second album Identity in vinyl form. A selection of the album's many highlights, delivered over three 12"s, each cut is brought to life once again; the stern truths about true creativity on 'Identity', the poignant hushed soul of Kirsty Hawkshaw on 'Nothing Can Replace', those oceanic breaks and soaring dynamics of the Headz-style 'Balance Of Power', the lithe acid funk of 'What's Your Fantasy', this list goes on. It's never too late to press an album to wax, this is proof.

Review: Contemplative, playful and from the heart; both Spearhead bossman BCee and one of the genre's most prolific singer/songwriters Charlotte Haining share many traits, as they show here on their debut collaborative album Life As We Know It. With topics ranging from mental health to adoption and loss of loved ones, the duo traverse the drum & bass hinterland with some of the most thoughtful songs either of them have ever written. Featuring cameos from the likes of Etherwood, DRS, Logistics, Kove and Tempza, vibes range from rocket-thrusting melancholy ('Give Me A Break'), glistening piano-laced minimalism ('Endlessly Unlimited') and all liquid things in between. Life-affirming.

Runaway (6:01)
Unleashed (6:00)
Articulate (6:24)
Review: With huge tracks hitting across the board on the likes of 31, Critical and now Chris Inperspective's exciting new imprint Eloisa, Bungle's never sat so comfortably in his own groove before. A longtime Sao Paulo drum & bass treasure, he seldom fails to deliver and these three cuts are fine examples of his understated craft. 'Runway' is the heaviest cut of the bunch with echoes of 'Cocooned' in the high voltage bassline while 'Unleashed' rolls with subtle theatre thanks to the jazzy swinging drums and 'Articulate' closes on a strange rhythm. Blocky, woozy and nodding very heavily at techno. It's hard not to make comparisons to Krust right here. And no compliment comes higher.

Dreamer '95 (5:59)
Junglist Days (4:54)
Review: Fresh from his adventures on US jungle label PPJ Recordings, Moscow's S Kid crash-lands into Amenology HQ with two ridiculous slabs of breaksmithery. 'Dreamer '95' is pure unfettered drummage with chops and cuts and glitches galore and some late entering pipes and a well known knife-playing vocal to sooth our edit-addled souls. 'Junglist Days' continues the tightly spliced and diced theme with heavier emphasis on the big splash cymbals and a sudden drop into pure rave bliss on the breakdown. Skid to halt for this.

Review: Having scaled the heights of global superstardom over the last decade, Chase & Status last year returned to their more roughneck D&B roots with RTRN II JUNGLE, their retro-futurist fourth studio album. Here they continue that trend via RTRN II FABRIC, their first contribution to the legendary London club's popular DJ mix series. Full to bursting with high-octane Amen breaks, bowel-bothering sub-bass, punchy rhythms and MC flows, the mix sees the long-serving twosome pack 44 killer jungle and D&B cuts old and new into just under 80, all-action minutes. As you'd expect, it's packed with exclusives too - not least a wealth of unreleased Chase & Status productions and 'VIP' dubplate versions. If you love jungle and D&B, you need it in your life.

Review: A man of many sounds (and even more swanky tracksuits) Voltage takes time away from the Kings Of The Rollers to unleash an album that no one saw coming. Kicking off with an 80s flavoured freestyle jam 'So Close', Rouen Wilkins takes time to guide us through his influences and showcase sounds and styles you might not expect from him... The Josh Wink style acid breaks of 'Moonshine', the sultry space-bound jazz of 'Endless Dreaming', the 90s piano house-meets-drum & bass vibes of 'Keep On Dancing' and the Burial-esque tones and textures of 'Consciousness' are just some of the excellent off-piste highlights from an artist who has more cards up his sleeve than you may realise. Balance is everything

What You've Done To Me (4:40)
Review: Monsieur-of-the-moment Mani Festo continues to flex his beats in all directions as he arrives at the equally flexible E-Beamz imprint. Following releases on the likes of Repertoire, Rupture and Boysnoize, he runs the full gamut here; 'Continuum' is a wobbled-out slab of breaks that nods towards instrumental grime, 'Baltic Sea' rekindles the old TCR or Botchit flames with just a wee smidgeon of rave magic, 'Full Circle' is all-out jungle while 'Explorer' drops the breaks entirely for an exercise in minimal techno. Finally 'What You've Done To Me' closes the show on an emotional one. Sublime.

Evolution II (5:35)
Liberation (5:36)
Late Bloom (5:21)
Review: Rebellion Electronics bossman Seb Eusebeia makes his debut on Warehouse Rave with four stimulating outer-planetary explorations. Side A is a tale of two halves as 'Evolution I' and 'Evolution II' bounce and reflect off each other. The former, a mournful moment of halftime with creeped out arpeggios and chilling tones, the latter a more brazen up-tempo junglised twist. Flip for two more adventures; 'Liberation' indulges in a luxurious two minute beatless intro before jumping into a breakbeat frenzy before 'Late Bloom' closes the EP on an all-out jungle assault that you could imagine hearing at Rupture or in the sets of Dead Man's Chest. Amen to that.

Frustration (Morgan Spiced remix) (6:41)
Frustration (Tim Reaper remix) (5:43)
Review: Amenology return with another essential science lesson, once again returning to the mysterious Link and their 'Frustration'. Having previously been given two treatments last year (Exoplanet and Voxphoria) it's now time for two prominent murksmiths to get their hands mucky; Jenga Soundsystem's Morgan Spiced hurls the classic jungle kitchen sink at it with rawhide edits and the warbliest reverse basses you'll hear this year. Reaper's twist also has an old school flavour but more in the pads and those unrelenting hardcore drums. Two absurdly good versions. Unleash some tension with 'Frustration'.

Review: Paws for thought; rising Lowlands junglist Tommy The Cat stalks out another Park Session edition with three of his own whisker-singeing workouts. Total drumfunk, as always, 'Park Sessions' eases us into the vibe on a dusty Goodlooking flex before 'High Drama' goes all-out Equinox with the drum edits and high emotions and 'In The Shimmering Sun' glides us over the horizon on a Seba-style dream mission. For one last hoorah NLS joins the fray with a downbeat tonic; the early Marine Parade style cosmic breaks of 'Hazelnut'. Purrrfect.

Review: It's not so grim up north... Straight Up Breakbeat dig deep into the archives and tell the not-so-well known tale of Finland's long-standing, deep-running drum & bass scene. With roots that go right back to the mid-90s with the likes of Samuel & Nasley (who famously didn't release any of their material - until now), the Nordic country has consistently represented and these are the most important people who pushed it in those formative days; from the raw funk and disco feels of Dharma's 'Starts Up Above' to the gnarled mentasms and Headzy rush of Muffler's 'It's The Way' via the acid psychosis of longtime Loxy collaborator Resound's 'Ghetto Funk', it's a unique insight into one of drum & bass's most northern outposts.

Once again rooted in the foundations, and their mid 90s inspirations, there's a timeless groove running throughout as we glide from the Creative Source style silkiness (and classic samplecraft) of 'Final Call' to the 'Two Pages'-era 4Hero / Big Bud style funk of 'Future Jazz 95' or right over on the other side as Good Looking get the fast-lane nod on 'China Town' and the final amen roll-out 'New Horizons'. Ageless.
