  1. Zapatero
  2. Mochilla No Mas
  3. Sorongo
  4. Ginga Gingou
Review: Sunshine booties from LA's cheekiest edit maestro, Gusto digests four Latin folk standards and spits them back out with contemporary mischief. Los Amaya's "Catalan Rumba" becomes "Zapatero", a track that zips and whistles with a fuzzy lo-fi pump. "Mochilla No Mas", meanwhile, takes a slo-mo militant Cumbia stomp, all horns and harmonised croons. The piano-splashed "Sorongo" (originally by Rafael Cortijo) is given a cheeky breakbeat massage while Dom um Romao's "Ginga Gingou" undergoes a percussive rub of carnivalesque proportions. Give your floor a Latin shoeing today... Literally - Zapatero translates to shoemaker!

  2. Bonus Break
  3. Souldrift
Review: Left coast beat merchant Brian Oblivion shows off his studio professor credentials with two wonderfully opposing sides to his armoury and a cheeky bonus beat DJ tool. "Hopscotch" leans heavily on a boom-bap vibe with added piano hits, tight guitar chops, flute parps, horn sighs and a warm undulating bassline while "Souldrift" is much smoother, sexier jam. Woozy but focused, it screams nothing but summer.

  3. Redlight Live (performed byThe Eglo Live Band feat Floating Points)
Review: Arriving in the same week as that crucial Floating Points 12" drop Wires is Circle, the first offering from the upcoming debut album from the 'Queen Bee of Eglo' Fatima. Described as an ode to the stars, the title track sees Fatima drop vocals over production work from Los Angeles duo Computer Jay and Shafiq Husayn of Sa Ra Creative Partners fame. It's backed with "Technology" which features button pushing from Stones Throw artist (and Madlib's younger brother) Oh No, whilst this 12? edition features a wonderful ten minute live rendition of "Red Light" done in collaboration with the Eglo Live Band.

Review: Few labels have such a range as Tru Thoughts; from soft jazz blues to bass-bitten grime, not only is each release is unpredictably brilliant, but there's a strong sense of consistency, no matter how wide they push their remit envelop. 30 tracks in total, each one of these tracks highlight Tru Thoughts' pedigree. Most have been released before but there are two exclusives from Titeknots and Harleighblu. Other highlights include the Ty's soul-hop poetry "Like You Never", Drumagick's full-frontal low-end massage of London Posse's "Money Mad" and Wrongtom & Deemus J's soundsystem-slaying digi dub joint "Jump & Move & Rock". Tru Thoughts: we salute you!

Review: Considering their Sessions LP was just one long single-track jam, this five-piece EP from the irrepressible Japanese jazzsters is genuinely super generous. Naturally, there's a theme throughout as the duo leap between parts, returning to soft organ melodic motifs and chord structures that are all built on the soft vocal harmonics of the original piece. Making references to Latin dynamics and contemporary electronic soul, it's yet another unique expedition from the C&C family. Much love.

Review: Los Angeles-based Ras G, a contemporary of Flying Lotus, has long sounded like a refugee from another planet; a kind of electronic devotee of Sun Ra with his head firmly in the cosmos. Despite being called Back on the Planet, this latest full-length excursion is every bit as out-there and intergalactic as previous releases. For the most part, it sounds like it was beamed down from the far reaches of the universe, offering an unusual blend of alien electronics, acid-fried jazz, other-wordly ambience, twisted African rhythms and hip-hop beats from another dimension. It's inventive, unusual and constantly entertaining. Ras G is a genuine one-off, and Back on the Planet proves that conclusively.

Review: Represses don't get much better than this. Originally released in 2008, Repaint Tomorrow is one of Fat Jon's finest instrumental escapades. Dreamy, soft and lavish in every sense of the production, it ranges from Bob James-meets-Herbaliser ("WYPAU") to Robert Luis string-sizzled organica ("Repaint Tomorrow") via future echoes of the current beat movement ("Leyes"). Proper 'heads' hip-hop, you could get lost in this for weeks on end.

Review: Classically-trained producer Raffertie burst onto the post-dubstep scene in a blaze of glory at the tail end of the noughties with a series of 12" singles that effortlessly joined the dots between bass music, mutant R&B and wonky house. Here, he finally delivers his much-discussed debut album, Sleep of Reason. It's clearly an accurate reflection of where his head's at - the curious basslines, overwhelming atmospheres and cute R&B influences remain - but also far more wide-ranging than his early work. For starters, there are far more songs than we've come to expect, most of which sound like jauntier, more upbeat takes on James Blake. Then there are his occasional forays into dancefloor territory, which - as is the case with simmering techno stomper "Undertow" - bristle with intensity.
