Benediction
Benediction (dub)
Forward Motion (MK Reverse remix)
Review: Ah, Hot Creations, home to the hippest house music that cites disco and 25 year-old club anthems as its inspirations. Here, label head honchos Jamie Jones and Lee Foss revived their Hot Natured project for a sweet stroll through smiley vocal house territory in the company of one-time electrofunk revivalist Ali Love. "Benediction" is good for what it is - a vaguely deep, pleasant Hot Creations record - but the real killer here is the remix of former single "Forward Motion" by crusty old US garage head Mark "MK" Kinchen. He recalls those glory days of tough but groovy MK dubs with a rework straight out of 1993.

Love Me Or Leave Me (Fly mixx)
Love Me Or Leave Me (club dub)
Love Me Or Leave Me (klub style)
Review: The charitable people over at Slow To Speak are always generous, reissuing just about everything that was good in the 90s NY era, but for re-releasing Cherie Lee's "Love Me Or Leave", they probably deserve a medal. Four mixes here, starting with the Fly mixx - a feel-good house track containing those infectious lyrics we love so much. On the B, the drums are seriously garaged-up and those vocals chopped right down; and lastly, the Klub mix is still a garage-tinged beat but sparser and more widescreen - probably the most alluring of the three...

On Da Rocks (4:13)
Roule Boule (3:42)
What To Do (4:29)
Outrun (5:49)
Ventura (6:31)
Review: Essential repress! Tomas Bangalter's stone cold classic Roule 12" Trax On Da Rocks makes a return. The five tracks on offer - "On Da Rocks", "Roule Boule", "What To Do", "Outrun" and "Ventura" - have acquired legendary status, standing as sublime examples of the rough, raw end of the filter-soaked French house sound. Some 17 years since they were first released, these tracks have lost none of their madcap brilliance; if this isn't already a cherished part of your record collection, here's your chance.

Hallelujah Anyway (Larse vocal) (6:49)
Hallelujah Anyway (Larse dub) (6:33)
Review: Those busy guys over at Defected are always quick to spot a valuable reissue or in this case, a stunning remix opportunity of an absolute classic! Lars takes care of giving Staton's "Hallelujah Away" a good tweaking, making it into a late-night house jam, keeping those beautiful lyrics in place but adding a hefty amount of shuffling kicks and snares to the pot. The dub is obviously deeper and more percussion-focussed but it nevertheless looses those beautiful pads which made the original so timeless. Recommended.

Levels (original version)
Levels (acappella)
Levels (Skrillex remix)
Levels (Cazzette NYC Mode mix)
Levels (Tom Rez dubstep remix)
Levels (Clockwork remix)
Levels (FTampa electro house remix)
Review: Trance-house God Avicii was remixed by a rather fancy collection of artists this year, all bringing something new to his original, a track that pretty much sums up what's going on now in the electro-progressive area, plus, we even get an acappella! Skrillex starts by transforming it into a neo-rave wobble tear up, proceeded by Cazzette NYC Mode Mode who rips apart and injects a nastier strain of electro into it. On the flip we can Tom Rezo going his dubstep thing again and it's propah! Clockwork re-work those chords and give them a new spin, whilst fTampa goes all bleeps and snares on ya! Indulge yourself...

Alright This Morning
Alright This Morning (Nicholas remix)
Review: You can tell that producer The Black Madonna has a passion for soulful, disco rooted house music, and now on this release for Hometaping, he has the chance to express it further. "Alright This Morning" feeds off an overloaded loop, where nervous piano, sustained strings and a militaristic kind of percussion keep the pressure up high, only accentuated by the choice of bluesy vocals. Nicholas steps in for the remix, rounding out some of the edges into a deeper house stew, although he retains much of the intricacy of the rhythm section.

Mark Knight - "Alright" (original club mix)
Franky Rizardo - "Caracoles" (DJ Chus Iberican mix)
Miguel Campbell - "Something Special"
Todd Terry Presents Sound Design - "Bounce To The Beat" (Prok & Fitch School Of Todd remix)
Review: Capture the magic of the summer with this feisty four-tracker on Toolroom. Emphasising the island's penchant for classic house vibes, each of the cuts here roll with a sprightly organic groove that will work any time of the day, on the beach or indeed the club. Mark's "Alright" nods a heavy head to 25 years of house music. Rizardo's "Caracoles" is a percussive fusion of international styles and flavours. Campbell's "Something Special" is a more subdued warm up moment. Prok & Fitch finish the package with an outstanding remix of Todd Terry's classic "Bounce To The Beat".

Rockin' Beats
Rockin' Beats (Shadow Child remix)
Not That Kind Of Girl
Not That Kind Of Girl (Mam remix)
Review: Having worked hard pushing his own Outcross label, Miguel Campbell is hitting the big time through his affiliation with Hot Creations, and this release should only serve to cement that burgeoning reputation. "Rockin' Beats" makes all the right moves with a clean disco house roll and a hooky vocoder rap turn, while Shadow Child creates a more intricate shuffle and moody synth line for his remix. "Not That Kind Of Girl" nods to Stephanie Mills' 80's gem "A Rush On Me", and sticks a rubbery boogie bassline underneath which should inspire grooving on dancefloors worldwide.

Where Did House Go (Did house dub original)
Review: With original copies of Jovonn's classic "Where Did House Go", released in 1993 on Kaleidoscope Records, changing hands for big money on Discogs, Millions Of Moments have reissued the track on limited edition clear vinyl, complete with dub version and edited form. With its smooth Rhodes keys, synth flutes, rolling drums and classic spoken word vocal extolling the importance of the culture of house music, it shows up most contemporary deep house to be seriously lacking in comparison.

Taxi Talk (Victor Rosado The 42nd Street mix)
Taxi Talk (Victor Rosado Times Square mix)
Review: The Nina Kraviz LP was an absolute peach but "Taxi Talk" was a sure standout amongst all the other goodies. The track is here respun by NY kingpin, Victor Rosado with two blood-boiling re-intepretations. The 42nd Street Mix is a delicate brew of bong-happy drums and growling background bass tones, swarming wearily over Kraviz's enchanting voice. Turn it over and there's the Times Square Mix, sounding something like a Norweigan disco-not-disco record - that crackling, disjointed percussion is just naughty...

Flash Of Light (Tale Of Us & Mind Against mix)
Flash Of Light (Solomun mix)
Review: You can always count on Southern Fried to give you all your booty-shaking, heart-pounding house desires...House heads Luca C and Brigante brought us "Flash Of Light" this year, featuring the climatic vocals of Roisin Murphy floating ever so graciously over the duo's tranquil beats and soft, harmonic timbres. This one is a biggie because we have two pretty gigantic rmeixes, one by Tale Of Us with Mind Against, who look to their 80-led, slo-mo take on house to guide things; and the other by Juno HQ favourite, Solomun, who takes things way down with hi inimitable seductiveness and brand-spanking fresh synth chords.

Infinity (Claude Vonstroke remix)
Infinity (Richy Ahmed remix)
Review: Ali Love and Luca C's huge summer smash "Infinity" gets the remix treatment. It was such a big track Crosstown Rebels have been careful to commission two remixes that won't piddle over the original in disrespect. Naturally they've nailed it. Claude VonStroke builds on the original, keeping a lot of the vocal and adding two walloping basslines that purr and poke against each other glee. Richy Ahmed, meanwhile, totally recreates the original with a new drum structure, deeper bassline and a pitched down vocal. It's not until the jaw-dropping drop that you notice any similarities. Two exemplary examples of remix magic. To Infinity and beyond!

Aus (Victor Rosado Release Yourself mix 2)
Aus (Victor Rosado Release Yourself mix 1)
Review: Even for a DJ and producer as widely adulated as Nina Kraviz, it's been hard to ignore her debut album. Released to much fanfare on Matt Edwards Rekids imprint earlier this year, the eponymous set has been complemented by all manner of remixes which most recently manifested in a split one off 12" between Rekids and Rush Hour. New York legend Victor Rosado helms the first of three 12"s that have the potential to be the finest Kraviz related vinyl to get released this year - the project being the end result of a chance meeting between the Paradise Garage DJ and Rekids boss Matt Edwards at Miami industry shindig WMC earlier this year. The King Aus featuring "Aus" gets totally blown apart by Rosado across two "Release Yourself"mixes that successfully trade the relaxed nature of Kraviz's original for something altogether more tribal.

Drain
Greed
Hunger
Review: The electronic music heritage of Sheffield continues to be given an exciting new outlet via the Crooked Man imprint with the unveiling of Shangrilies. Ostensibly a collaboration between Crooked Man himself Richard Barratt and 80s Steel City mainstay Peter Hope, Shangrilies will excite anyone with a firm grip on Sheffield's 80s music scene. In addition the three tracks here cut a swathe through much of the polite music that currently gets released under the deep house banner, craftily pollinating the rhythms of house with their own Industrial leanings. It sounds like Hope and Barratt had a hoot at Crooked Man HQ making these, the former's forebodingly breathy delivery the perfect accompaniment to the semi knackered yet relentless grooves of the latter's productions, with the bass heavy "Greed" our pick of the bunch.

Larse - "The More I Want"
Federico Scavo - "I Do" (original club mix)
Popof & Oliver Giacomotto - "Back Together" (original club mix)
Rebe Amesz & Jasper Clash - "Kippefeessie" (original club mix)
Review: Toolroom Records are never shy to procure the finest in warm summer house beats and infectious late night vocals. This collab for the summer included a track by Larse "The More I Want" bridging Frankie Knuckles style vocals with lazy, deep house chords. Federico Savo says "I do" and boy it do we agree - it's one of those which won't escape you head and drive you to complete dancefloor hysterics. Turn the slab o wax over and you got "Back Together" by Popof and Oliver Giacomotto who create a monstrous minimal-tech-house stomper, and Rebe Amesz together with Jasper Clash do "Kippefeessie" a more sparse and disjointed minimalistic vision - equally as good and utterly addictive.

Everybody Loves The Sunshine (original mix)
Review: Nova Fronteira came good this year, with this beautiful reworking of the 70s classic, "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" by Roy Ayers! It's always hard to re-work such timeless wonders but this dude does it with style on his original and he's even found a competent artist to give it another mix! There' three remixes by Sean McCabe here, the plain remix which adds a faster-tempo and an even housier groove, then we got the reprise mix: a slower, funkier house-led jam focusing closely on those wonderful synth keys, and finally there's the majestic dub version - a groovy, four the floor mashup containing some highly potent drum breaks. Boom.

Leave Fast, Die Young
Depeche-Moi
Review: The Bootleggin' fiends over at G produced this little marvel earlier this year, containing re-edits of three jaw-shattering, too-famous-for-introductions classics. Title track "80s" is given a pouncy, hard-hitting kick drum to deal with, whilst "Leave Fast, Die Young" gets given a ripping tech-house stomp. Finally, "Depeche-Moi" is re-touched and turned into a peak-time, pour me another one kinda track.

Review: In the wake of the Chicago revival, this compilation was surely a long time coming. Before his Green Velvet identity was so well known, Curtis Alan Jones was more concerned with the bump and grind of his Cajmere alias and the Cajual imprint that carried classics by himself, Dajae, Glenn Underground and many more. Of course this compilation just touches on a few key moments (after all they couldn't miss out "Percolator" could they?) but there are no shortage of classics in this package. Just head for "Feelin' Kinda High" if you need more proof that this is an essential purchase for house heads everwhere.

Our House (Kink & Neville Watson remix)
Our House (Willie Burns remix)
Review: Strange Paradise, the enduringly rewarding LP from Orgue Electronique opened in notable fashion with "Our House" a track dominated by one of house music's most distinct voices n Robert Owens. It makes sense then for Creme to extract further joy from "Our House" with this clutch of expertly chosen remixes. The names Neville Watson and KiNK don't appear side by side as much as they did in that prolific 2010 period, but the Anglo-Bulgarian studio partnership is as potent as ever on this slab of wax. Wisely leaving Owen's vocal unfettered, the duo set about presenting a pulsating, throbbing introduction beneath that explodes into glorious melodic colour quite unexpectedly. On the flip Brooklyn Budgie Smuggler and WT Records boss Willie Burns drops two SP12 conjured remixes and they're both hot on that old skool jacking approach, with his first effort just shading it in our affections.

Zulu Shuffle (Collective Machine remix)
Review: Jason Chance got his break on Great Stuff this year with this enticing little EP - it's only one track and two remixes but man, it's pretty tasty! Chance's "Zulu Shuffle" is a tech-house fuelled thumper, complete with electro-reminiscent stabs and an almost trancey vibe. Ant Brooks turns it into a grinding, clicking Radio Slave kinda tune on the B and is followed by Collective Machine's big room, drum-frenzied house bomb!
