Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Review: Over the years, Ron Trent has released some fine albums, all of which have subtly expanded on his trademark soul-flecked, percussion-rich deep house sound. On What Do The Stars Say To You, his first new full-length excursion in 11 years, the Chicago native has taken a different approach, utilising his occasional WARM alias on a stunning set that abandons dancefloor-pleasing in favour of immersive, evocative and ultra-deep blends of ambient, downtempo, jazz-funk and electronica. It's a genuinely brilliant album all told, with a string of impressive guest musicians - including Ivan Conti and Alex Malheiros of Azymuth, electric jazz pioneer Jean-Luc Ponty, psychedelic Balearic specialists Khrungbin and Italian ambient maestro Gigi Masin - all making brilliant contributions. In a word: exceptional!

Review: Previous offerings on No Fuss have featured the likes of Saison, Crispin J. Glover and Dean Zepherin, and now the upfront house label brings together another selection of party heaters from a range of producers. Saison makes a welcome return with the feisty "Till The Day I Die", a richly produced vocal jam with plenty of uptempo shuffle in the drums. Risk Assessment lean on the keys to create a melodic mood on "I Don't Understand" and then Saison does it again with the bright and breezy "The Riff". That leaves it to Natasha Kitty Katt to finish things up with the heavy funking disco licks of "Plenty Good" - a get-down cut for all seasons.

Review: Detroit mainstay Andres returns to MotorCity Wine Recordings with an anthemic 4 tracker entitled Sunday Kinda Love. For those that know, MotorCity Wine is the spot for Sunday parties, so we only thought it appropriate to have one of Detroit's most seminal producers highlight the vibe with this EP. On the A side is Andres's dusty house sound that we've all come to love, complete with bouncing basslines, slick vocal chops, and drums to turn out any dance floor. On the flip side Andres slows the tempo just a touch to highlight his chunky midtempo beatdown sounds, with "Rubin Samba" bringing a Latin flair and "Sunday Kinda Love" driving it all home. Essential Detroit music manufactured in Detroit and housed in a gorgeous vinyl package, TIP!

Jungle Dream (Ron Trent Remixes)
  1. Jungle Dream (Ron Trent remix part I)
  2. Jungle Dream (Ron Trent remix part II)
Review: Irst released way back in 2011 on one of Nick Anthony Simoncino's fine EPs for Metamatics, 'Jungle Dream' smartly joined the dots between turn-of-the '90s Italian dream house and the more jacking end of late '80s Chicagoan house. It was always ripe for remixing, such was the mixture of attractive musical elements on show, and we can't think of anyone more suited to the task than deep house legend Ron Trent. On the A-side 'Part I' remix, Trent tiptoes the fine line between attractive dreaminess and percussively weighty late-night house voodoo - all layered drums, groovy bass, whispered vocal snippets, languid lead lines and immersive pads. He goes for a more expansive, sunrise-ready sound - complete with fluid, Balearic house keyboard solos, sultry synth strings and sun-kissed chords - on the flipside 'Part II' mix.

The Lost Trax

Review: Well here's something no one expected from the annals of house music history. Back in 2000 a chance link up took place when Steve Bug invited the legendary Chicago producer Spencer Kincy, aka Gemini, to his studio in Berlin. Two tracks were laid down, and now after all these years they're finally seeing the light of day as Chiwax got the blessing from all relevant parties to press them up for our grooving pleasure. They're crisp, unfussy tracks which are perhaps less wild than a lot of Gemini-related projects, which no doubts speaks to Bug's well-known style, but there's a whole lot of vibe in these cuts whichever way you look at them.

Review: Seven years on from the release of his decidedly loved-up vocal deep house classic, 'Thirstin', Mood Hut co-founder Jack Jutson is finally ready to return to action - albeit with an album that might surprise those who've not paid attention to the inrtricacies of his blazed, glassy-eyed trademark sound. Opening The Door is less concerned with deep house dancefloors than much of the Canadian's previous work; instead, it applies his famously warm, jazz-funk and stoner boogie inspired instrumentation to AOR, yacht rock, Chris Rea (opener 'If You Don't Know Why' is like a cool, 21st century take on 'On The Beach'), West Coast jazz-rock, ambient jazz and mid-80s European Balearic dub. It makes perfect sonic sense and could well turn out to be one of the albums of summer 2022.

Review: 22 years after his debut EP, micro-house classic Sporturlaub, hit stores, Dial Records co-founder Lawrence is still at the peak of his powers. That's certainly the conclusion we've reached having listened to Birds on the Dancefloor, a fine four-tracker for Mule Musiq full of evocative, melodious, atmospheric and morning-fresh deep house jams. Our pick of a very strong bunch is the ultra-deep, drifting, dubbed-out dancefloor drift of 'Everglade', though opener 'Highland Spores (House Mix)' - a heady and hypnotic fusion of micro-house and deep house - pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'The Awakening' sees the German pepper an undulating acid bassline and smooth beats with rising and falling melodies, while 'Meadows (sunrise edit)' is an intensely beautiful fusion of IDM electronics and soft-focus deep house grooves

Review: We've banged on about how much we enjoy Felipe Gordon's work before, noting that nearly everything he touches turns to musical gold. Predictably, his first outing on Clone's Royal Oak offshoot is superb, too. Opener 'Impresiones Acidas' is particularly impressive: a near-perfect fusion of hazy deep house, Tourist-era St Germain jazz-house and undulating, near psychedelic acid lines. It comes accompanied by a TB-303-free take, 'Impressiones' (where the original's luscious jazz guitar solos get more of an airing) and two bonus cuts: the sunshine-ready, jazzual deep house wonder of slowly shifting loop jam 'Can't You See' and the chunkier, piano-sporting deep house heaviness of 'Displacing Resolution'. In a word: impeccable!

Review: Atlanta's Chris Brann has always been most readily associated with his trailblazing work in Wamdue Kids, but he's always done much more besides. As a solo artist he first struck out in the mid-late 90s on the likes of Peacefrog, Acacia and Guidance, which tells you plenty about the quality of deep house he's responsible for. Studies In Form originally hails from that period, out in 1997 on Woody McBride's Sensuist label. These tracks sound evergreen, steeped in the warm musicality of the era, with plenty of oomph to get a floor moving but ultimately loungey in their demeanour. This is grade A classic US deep house from a seasoned pro, now lovingly reissued for your pleasure.

For this one they arrive on YORE with artful yet floor-ready grooves that are steeped in classicist traditions but are executed with modern style. 'How We Groove' has a busted bassline powering along slinky drums and a chopped up vocal under swirling chords. 'From Day To Night' smooths things out with wispy cosmic synths darting about over chunky beats and 'Believe' then gets a little more prickly and jazz tinged in its synth work.

Review: When it first appeared on Dutch label Djax-Up Beats way back in 1994, Glenn Underground's third single, 'The Unborn', was warmly received. Listening back to the record via this Groovin' Italy reissue, it's easy to see why. Like his other releases of the period, it strikes a perfect balance between energy-packed, techno-influenced intensity and the melodious deep house sound he'd later become famous for. Check first the frankly filthy title track, a jacking, TB-303 and TR-909-driven slab of mind-altering peak-time insanity, before admiring the luscious deep house/Motor City techno fusion of 'Tek-Na-Logie'. '101 Dolomations' is a smooth but jacking Detroit techno mutation marked out by rising and falling electronic motifs, while closing cut 'New Age Experience' sounds like a Chicagoan's take on the Burrell Brothers' early '90s Nu Groove productions.

Review: 'At Les' is one of Carl Craig's most beloved productions: a gorgeously dreamy chunk of Innerzone Orchestra style tech-jazz that first surfaced - on a now in-demand compilation - 25 years ago. Craig has revisited it several times since, but it's Christian Smith's 2010 reworks - reissued on this 12" for the first time since - that are arguably the most peak-time ready and dancefloor-centric. On the A-side 'Tronic Treatment' version Smith layers the track's iconic synthesizer motif - heart-achingly poignant and drenched in delay - and deep, spacey chords over deep, rumbling sub-bass and a crunchy deep house beat. Smith ups the tempo and intensity on the arguably even better 'Hypnotica Mix', which is closer in tone to pure Motor City techno and features a genuinely spellbinding breakdown.

Hidden Spheres is Tom Harris, a Mancunian DJ and producer who debuted on the label in 2015 and this return shows he has evolved his sounds and his skills plenty in that time. 'Improvisation' is a gorgeous number with fuzzy pads and lo0fi beats, 'Euan 92' takes us to the Med for some breezy deep goodness and 'You Are Not Your Body' then brings a playful vibe with step-in basslines and colourful trumpet sounds. Review: Released last year, 'I Go' saw Peggy Gou in Italo-disco-influenced synth-pop mode, with psychedelic acid lines, sweet South Korean vocals and attractive melodies rising above a Bobby Orlando-esque bassline. Here the track is given a new lease of life by a trio of high-profile producers. Belgian behemoths Soulwax do a terrific job re-inventing the track as a retro-futurist, warehouse-ready house epic - all muscular sequenced bass, bustling drums, rave-igniting stabs and hands-in-the-air intent. DJ Koze does a lovely job of re-framing 'I Go' as a bubbly, bright and breezy nu-disco number, while Maurice Fulton delivers one of those killer re-rubs based around his funky, cut-up bass guitar lines, Nile Rodgers guitar licks and sparse-but-snappy percussion.

Moon Shadow (10th Anniversary Mixes)
  1. Moon Shadow (Joe Claussell remix)
  2. Moon Light (Kyodai rework)
Review: Ten years have now passed since Spanish trio Bassfort delivered their double A-side single Moon Shadow/Moon Light, which Mad Mats and Tooli selected to be the first ever Local Talk release. In honour of the popular deep house label's tenth anniversary, they've splashed out on some new remixes. Joaquin 'Joe' Clausell delivers an exquisite A-side rub of 'Moon Shadow', peppering a futuristic synthesizer bassline and unfussy drums with luscious jazz piano, echoing vocal snippets and wayward electronics. Long-time Local Talk artist Kyodai takes over on the flip, reframing 'Moonlight' is a lusciously string-drenched, subtly jazz-funk influenced slab of organic broken house rich in warming bass guitar, twinkling pianos and languid beats.

Review: Mr A.L.I is an alias for Vick Lavender, a Chicago-based DJ and producer who runs the Sophisticado label. To give you an idea of his vibe within the broader remit of deep house, he's also part of Glenn Underground's Strictly Jaz Unit, so you know his musical chops are meeting a world-class standard. On this new release, he lets his uplifting playing take centre stage on 'Feelin It', tapping into a jazz funk vibe which has plenty of relevance outside the house scene. You could imagine this going down a storm at a soul weekender, but if it's the beats at the back of the mix you vibe on, then fear not because the flip goes in on the drums alone, giving DJs something to work with.

Review: NDATL continues with the return of Kayenne, Rain Fall Down originally produced by Chris Brann is the first single from Kayenne's forthcoming full length, produced by various Atlanta based producers, Kai Alce, Stefan Ringer, DJ Kemit, Salah Ananse & Chris Brann. This first offering bring forth Kayenne's sweet melody over atmospheric rhythms & pads over driving drums brought together on Anthony Nicholson's rewerk. Next an unexpected late night groover from Plastik Recordings, Marc Cotterell where his deep chords transport you deep into the dancefloor. This last mix comes from Groove Victim aka Jay Brown (whom we unfortunately lost late 2021) simple but elegantly effective very reminiscent of the early 90' MAW dubs! Once again NDATL blazes forward!

Review: Woody McBride and Dave Stevens worked together as Modal back in the mid nineties. Hardcore diggers have been banging their beats for a while but they're not that easy to find so thankfully the Sounds label reissues this collection go thumpers from 1997. It is a hefty double back of raw but soulful beats with rough edges, sharp hits and brilliantly unpolished drums. 'Quadruple Take' is a real sweatathon, 'Carnivalesque' brings the fun with rolling boogie-woogie pianos and further highlights included the silky and spaced out tech of 'Beautiful Music'.

Review: Chicago's dance music history isn't exactly short of legends, but Spencer Kincy has to be one of the most enigmatic. Beyond his well documented struggles in life, his music beguiles and surprises in the way truly innovative house should, and that comes through in abundance on this reissue of a mystery joint from somewhere around the 1996 mark. There's a techier slant to tracks like 'Ginko B', especially compared to some of Kincy's best known work as Gemini, but it's still fizzing with an angular flair that could only come from one as funky as him. Just drop into the bubbling, melodious joy of 'Moodz' and let his inimitable sound take you away.

Review: With such a collaboration heavy project in the "Yet Another Kito Jempere Album" announced it is no surprise that this following remixes pack comes laden with familiar friends'n'family, plus additional support.

Taking the ambient meets acappella paene Your Ghost In Me and creating one of his on-point dance floor dramas, Lipelis (Animals Dancing / LIES), utilising Hard Ton's classic 'US House' vocal delivery to create a perfect "big room" anthem.

Next up Born Free boss, Samo DJ (Public Possession / Trilogy Tapes) pumps A King Of Comets with Mood II Swing punch meets Ballistic Brothers riddim'n'culture for some hip-breaks-dancehall swing.

Cable Toy (Low Budget Family) presents the label favourite with his bouncing, yearning remix of album stand out, Time Traveller. Countered with a perfect touch of summer vibrations and melancholia this up and coming St Petersburg resident has to be watched.

Finally, Linja (Avidiya / Malka Tuti) offers a deep, shuffling version of Untitled Ritual. Arpeggios throb, percussion snaps, tempos shift, planets realign, vocals by Noteless call...wait believing, just we have seen it, God is waiting, nothing can bleeding.

Only friends. Only family. This is Kito's emotional response.

Review: While they have worked together before - those with good memories may remember their joint remix of LAPS for DFA - Edge of Infinity marks the first major collaboration between two of electronic music's most exciting producers, Roza Terenzi (AKA Katie Campbell) and D. Tiffany (Sophie Sweetland). As individual producers, they're renowned for the hallucinatory, often sonically detailed and undeniably loved-up nature of their trademark sounds, so it's little surprise to find that their joint album ticks all their boxes. After beginning with a chunk of dreamy, melancholic post-ambient electronica, they effortlessly drift between trippy, bouncy techno ('Gravity Bongo', the more driving and breakbeat-tinged 'Liquorice Skritch'), sub-heavy tribal hedonism ('Lil' Drummer Boi'), polyrhythmic techno ('Grains of Sand', the wide-eyed 'Paparazzi'), intergalactic late '90s style D&B ('Redemption Arc') and trance-inducing downtempo psychedelia ('Possession').

Review: Here comes a curio from the heady early 90s rush of house music. Music Institute Records was a low-key affair which ran from 1993 to 1999, with no particularly recognisable names amongst their repertoire, but the label started with a hand-stamped joint from Ciao Lee Tong, a project credited to Marco Funari. Plenty rare and now incredibly desirable amongst collectors, this four track EP has the plucky DIY spirit of an early 90s house release - raw and unpolished, but with all the right moves to get a party rocking. 'Session' is the gem which opens the EP in a cascade of psychedelic synth tones and tough Lately bass, while 'Dance Fusion' has a cheekier, Detroit-leaning swerve to it. 'Deep In My Heart' features some tricksy programming and a boxjammed Latin flavour, while 'Underground Station' takes it good and deep to round out this highly prized slice from a hidden pocket of house music history.

Review: Frank & Tony return with their new Dream Vibration EP, five years after their last collaboration, the critically acclaimed 'Odes' EP. Lead track 'Dream Vibration' begins with a sluggish breakbeat and drifting, barely-there chord washes before gradually revealing a heavy, low kick and deep sub to propel the track forward. Eliana Glass, meanwhile, sings on Frank & Tony's original version of Stretch Out Like The World.

Review: Examine Alex Albrecht's small (but undoubtedly impressive) discography, and you'll find an atmospheric, opaque and undeniably dreamy mix of ambient, deep house and downtempo grooves. His calling card, then, is not his adherence to a specific style, but a love of immersive aural textures, sonic warmth and sunrise-ready melodic motifs. This trademark sound is to the fore on A Clearing, his first Mule Musiq outing. Check first the detailed, subtly dubbed-out deep house dreamscape of 'Stranger', before admiring the ultra-deep, half-asleep excellence of 'A Clearing' and the Latin-tinged, ambient house bliss of 'Cabin in the Meadow'. He opts for a Sprinkles-goes-Latin house flex on 'Gibbon's Call', fuses jazz-house and ambient on 'The Walk' and doffs a cap to Susumu Yokota on 'Kennet River'. In a word: wonderful!

It kicks off with a head turning, foot tapping new EP from Garrett David that joins the dots between plenty of classy electronic styles without paying too much heed to any in particular. 'Emergency' (feat Simone Green) bounces nicely with an old school house vocal that will bring good vibes to the floor. A competition was run to allow producers to submit a track that would potentially appear Weapons Of Ass Destruction vol III. Overwhelmed with submissions Brawther and Tristan da Cunha chose A.M projects track which end up on the WOAD release. However they were left with even more bomb tracks from new exciting artists and decided to a whole EP dedicated to the project. The results are 4 killer kutz on one super solid lab of wax that demands to be played all through the night into the early morning. Are you ready to Enter The Dungeon?

Review: House sensation Peggy Gou had a huge hit last year with the original of 'I Go.' It makes sense that it is now revisited by a hefty team of remixes who add their own spin to the catchy original. Acclaimed Belgian live pair and brotherly duo Soulwax open up with a typically tough version fill with stiff bass stabs and slapping hits. It is a brilliantly retro future gem. Pampa boss DJ Koze layers in some freewheeling and signature naive melodies for his version and Maurice Fulton then brings a much more laid back and deep version with the lush vocals paired with finger clicks and languid guitar funk.

  1. Another Flannel Afternoon
  2. Afraid Of Breakfast
  3. In Yo Head (feat Jeru Tha Damaja - House mix)
Review: Hanna is a somehow rather overlooked or under-appreciated (or both) producer from the states. He had some cult classic outings on some key labels first time round then seemed to disappear only to come back again a few years ago with his superbly fresh and musical house sound more than in tact. He is a master instrumentalist and keys player who brings the jazz, the funk, the class to every tune. That is certainly the case on the warm, glowing grooves of 'Another Flannel Afternoon' with its neat synths and subtle vocals. 'Afraid Of Breakfast' is a more textured track with wet clasp and loopy synth motifs over a rugged house beat. 'In Yo Head' features 90s hip-hop maestro Jeru Tha Damaja on the vocals and gets a remix that is a perfect bit of hip-house.

Review: Born and raised on the dusty, baking hot island of Malta, Melchior Sultana has long been associated with a brand of warming, emotion-rich deep house that values head-soothing niceness as much as sturdy dancefloor chops. The producer's latest album, Self-Reflection, is naturally rooted in immersive, dreamy and pleasingly tactile deep house, but there's more than enough psychedelic acid lines, crispy analogue sounds and subtle musical variety to avoid accusations of being too "nice". Highlights are plentiful, from the wonderfully sun-soaked, Italian deep house influenced lusciousness of 'You & I' and the organ-splattered New Jersey revivalism of 'Dogma', to the pleasing peak-time bump of 'Remember The Floor' and the spaced-out acid-electro of 'Switch Up'.

Review: Soulful-smooth, deep garage house from Forgotten Coordinates here. An as yet unknown artist, they're not shy of flexxing their production chops; 'I Keep Rising' is a flavoursome, buxom and slippery tune topped on vocals by an unknown singer. Meanwhile, 'Closed Eyes', 'Euphoric Emotions' and 'Tantalizing' bring on ever-hotter and steamier moods. Cop it for your 'tables ASAP.

Review: Faze Action return with a classic original house track "Paradise" managing to seamlessly fuse Italo house with the New York sound of the late 80's early 90's. Finely mixing a cocktail of heavenly piano house riffs with dreamy vocals and dubby bass lines, topped off with some classic breakdown moments to tease the most discerning dancefloors into hysteria.
We have also included two tracks for the first time on vinyl, the classic Rudy's Midnight Machine - "Open to Your Love" and Faze Action's - "I Wanna Dancer" (Old School House Mix) plus we have the floor filling ST House Mix of "Freak for Your Love".

Review: Though 420 was originally recorded and released in April of 2020, Galcher Lustwerk's pandemic project is an exercise in counting and patience. Originally from a 16 track, 69 minute release only available for Bandcamp for $69 (or $4.20 per track), the 420 project brings us practically brand spanking new Galcher EP, just under a different name. Finally at an accessible price (and including signature Galcher vocals in a majority of the tracks to boot) this vinyl release hopes to bring more fans who missed the original release to the 420 club.
