Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Natasha Kitty Katt - "Plenty Good" (6:47)
Review: Previous offerings on No Fuss have featured the likes of Saison, Crispin J. Glover and Dean Zepherin, and now the upfront house label brings together another selection of party heaters from a range of producers. Saison makes a welcome return with the feisty "Till The Day I Die", a richly produced vocal jam with plenty of uptempo shuffle in the drums. Risk Assessment lean on the keys to create a melodic mood on "I Don't Understand" and then Saison does it again with the bright and breezy "The Riff". That leaves it to Natasha Kitty Katt to finish things up with the heavy funking disco licks of "Plenty Good" - a get-down cut for all seasons.

We Cookin Now
Opinion Rated R
Black Thanxx (instrumental)
Review: While much of the material they release is brand spanking new, Phonogramme is not averse to reissuing choice gems from the 1990s. That's the case here, as the French deep house label offers a new edited - pressed to striking pink marbled wax - of Analog Trks Vol 1, a 1997 EP from former Prescription Records artist Abacus (real name Austin Bascom). This edition varies from the original, featuring two of the four cuts and a previously unreleased take of another. Check first 'We Cookin' Now', a deliciously deep, slow-building masterpiece of smoky late night sonics, stripped-back percussion, Chez Damier motifs and subterranean bass, before admiring the tech-tinged deep house bounce of 'Opinion Rated R'. Rounding things off is 'Black Thanxx (Instrumental)', a kind of deep house/deep acid fusion workout rich in spacey chords, analogue bass and prototype tech-house bleeps.

Day 2 Night

AM Bubbles
Review: ??? is behind Abstract Grooves Vol 2 and delivers a very solid follow-up to their debut on Tackle Audio, showcasing a perfect fusion of tech house and dub reggae influences. 'Day 2 Night' opens the release with a vibrant and upbeat tech house groove. It's full of energy, with a funky rhythm that makes it an instant dancefloor mover, highlighting the producer's ability to blend dub vibes into the house sound. 'Feet Amongst The Clouds' introduces a smoother, more atmospheric feel, driven by a strong reggae vocal sample and heavy dub influence. The fusion of reggae with house adds depth and a soulful edge to the groove, making it equally suited for both relaxed listening and dancefloor sessions. On the flip side, 'AM Bubbles' slows things down with a laid-back dub jam, perfect for winding down while maintaining the dub house vibe. Perhaps, our favourite of the three songs. Abstract Grooves Vol 2 is an impressive, genre-blurring release from Tackle Audio, blending funk, dub, and house seamlessly.

Review: Volume 4 of the Make Up series is another doozy and this one brings together accomplished house heads Camille, Chez Damier, and Nico Lahs in a celebration of underground disco classic "through the lens of 60's and 70's underground comix." Similar to these rebellious reads, the tracks on this release carved their niche with purists seeking distinct and thrilling sounds. Across the double album, Camille's contributions include Mystic Pleasure's 'Back Door (Getting Down)' and Cold Fire's 'Badder Than Bad' which both bring soulful melodies and infectious rhythms, Chez Damier adds Fascination's 'Shine My Love' and Bileo's 'You Can Win' with shimmering vocals and funky basslines and together, they make for an exhilarating mix of disco brilliance.

Review: Phonogramme is in the middle of a fine series of releases that highlight the great work of legendary US deep house don Abacus. Analog Stories Vol 3 opens with the lush depths of 'It's Bubbling (Short Stories)' then gets more busy with 'Beautiful African Girl' which features humid pads and jazzy keys with dense percussive layers. His great singles were always ripe for remixing and few do it better than house man Michael Gray. Here he tackles the evergreen 'Space Cowboy' with a Good Vibe Zone - extended mix that layers in some nice funky, soulful drums and lavish cosmic melodies that make it perfect for cultured clubs. On the flip of this new 12" from Sultra is a dub mix that is a little more playful and party starting. Both tunes are sure to raise the roof.

He kicks off this latest tasteful missive with the title track 'Afro Go' which has a call & response style, Afro-jazz influenced groover that is perfect for both head and heel. 'Ambrosia' flips the script with a bass lead groove that is a perfect foundation for the smooth undulating synths then on the flip is a previously release collaboration with Chicago vocal legend Robert Owens himself. The lush 'Tonight' his smoky tones and keys from the late D. Millz then 'Acid Outpost' shuts down with a blend of late night jazz chords and potent house depths.

Review: The great deep house maestro Alton Miller is one of the most underrated names in the game if you ask us. The long-time innovator still turns out supremely designed sounds as this one on Mister Bear evidences. 'Afrika Alright' opens with smoky, soulful vocals and lovely flute melodies next to wispy synth explorations, 'Dub Afrika' pads it out with some extra pillowy low ends, then 'Hang On' brings some bright xylophone melodies and jumbled percussion to a more Afro tinged house shuffler. Last of all is 'Super Hero' with its whimsical synth leads and interesting sound designs adding rich detail to a dusty deep house groove. Timeless stuff as always from Miller.

The A-side opens with the title track, 'Expoz,' a club-focused tech house anthem that balances techy elements with pulsating melodies, setting the tone for the EP. Following is 'Fraistival,' offering a slightly progressive house vibe with a captivating melody that flows seamlessly. On Side 2, 'Anomisk' emerges as a catchy builder, drawing listeners in with its infectious rhythm and evolving layers. Closing the EP is 'Vertu,' a chill deep house gem perfect for late-night sessions, exuding class and elegance while maintaining a melodic allure. The resulting collaboration continues to give us tracks that are both hypnotic and immersive.

Review: No prizes for guessing the motivation behind this new EP, 5 Years Of B2 Recordings. It is a tidy and tasteful celebration of half a decade of top quality deep house from a range of key players. This one opens with Frenchman Brawther getting dubbed out and deep as ever with some nice lounge chords and blissed-out pads. Bengoa's 'Neftina Dub' has a subtle US garage shuffle to it that harks back to the 90s and Lex & Locke then bring rich paint chords and withering synth motifs to 'Atenas Blues' before Zaq's 'Make A Wish' shuts down with some cosmic rays of positivity. A fantastic EP so here's to the next five years.

'Dale Ale' kicks things off with a tumbling hook that sounds like someone whacking a giant metal drum, while 'Phantom Strike' brings shuffling garage energy to the beats. Review: Season Limited returns with French house mainstay Franck Roger at the controls again. He kicks off with 'Think About It' which is a chunky groove with some crisp percussion and lithe synths worming their way in and out of the drums while a woozy vocal adds some soul. The instrumental mix peels back that vocal to allow the beats to make their mark. On the flip, 'Reach The Stars' is a dubbed-out and percussive number with a sultry late-night feel. 'Black Widow' then closes down with a more fun groove and some dusty hi-hats. All of these are sure to do a great job on the floor.

Review: Brooklyn record distributor Atypical-dopeness offer the next edition in Joaquin Joe Claussell's Unofficial Edits & Overdubs series. Following a four-tracker of largely unnamed tracks released in 2020, Iboga continues the series, this time with an iterative avatar to top up Claussell's ever-moving house continuum. Claussell's output has lately taken on an ancestral turn, influenced by the hallucinations caused by chewing the roots of an iboga plant, a chemico-spiritual fixture of initiation ceremonies found across Central Africa (whether Claussell actually did take ibogaine isn't clear). What we do know is that, in dialogue with his heritage, Claussell found himself inspired by these initiatory rituals and so set about producing this eleven-track heart-rouser, fusing the overdubbed recorded sounds of Gabon, Cameroon and Congo with his own summative, spiritual, salubrious house sound.

Holding On (Ron Trent remix)
Mystical Rythm
Review: Phonogramme brings back a pivotal moment in its history with a fresh repress of DJ Steaw's 'Holding On'. Originally released in 2012, the track marked both the label's debut and DJ Steaw's emergence as a serious producer. Fast forward to today, and the record has been revived with an added twist: a remix by none other than Ron Trent. Trent's take manages to build on the original's deep house foundations, injecting it with his signature Chicago warmth and effortless groove. Alongside this standout remix, Steaw contributes two more tracks that capture his enduring talent for crafting timeless house music. It's a testament to both DJ Steaw's vision and Phonogramme's place within the scene that 'Holding On' remains as compelling today as it did when it first dropped. With this repress, it's clear that the label hasn't just resurfaced a forgotten gem, but revived a record that continues to resonate with a new generation of house heads. The energy of Steaw's production, combined with Trent's refined touch, ensures this isn't just a piece of nostalgia - it's a release that stands firmly in the present while nodding to the past. A reminder that real house music never goes out of style.

Review: Ricardo Villalobos wasn't always the cult figure he is today. At the start of his career he was an underground producer still finding his feet and fomenting his own sound. It was in the first decade of his career that he cooked up this tune and had what is about as close as he will ever get to a techno anthem. 'Heike' rides on big drums with detuned synth lines layered up next to female vocal coos, pixelated synth modulations and prying bass. Its a mental workout as much as a physical one and still bags today, which his why it gets this reissue on Rawax alongside the Mood Mix on the flip which is more dubby and dialled back into to deeper beats.

Review: Primal Scream's new album Come Ahead, produced by David Holmes, is set to drop on 8 November, and leading the charge is the single 'Love Insurrection', now given a remix treatment by Black Science Orchestra. This limited 12" features two mixesithe Black Science Orchestra Vocal Remix, which packs in a funky drummer backbeat, rolling keys, and vibrant pipes that soar alongside waves of L.O.V.E., and the Dub version for those looking for a deeper, groove-heavy cut. Following in the footsteps of Terry Farley & Wade Teo's sold-out white label remix of 'Ready To Go Home', this release promises to be another essential grab for fans of Primal Scream and collectors alike.

Review: There is a wealth of No Fuss releases all dropping this year and number 12 is a tasteful house four-tracker from various quality artists. Saison's 'Suffer' is up first as a remix from Fouk, and it is a lovely, jazzy, laidback and heartfelt sound with an infectious skip in the drums. The original is just as infused with dusty soul and warming chords and on the flip Saison remixes Pete Moss & Colette's 'Higher' 'into carefree grooves with more noodling melodies and DirtyTwo then keeps the grooves flowing with 'Rymden,' which exudes summery excellence.

Review: The No Fuss label has been busy of late and is now dropping the many fruits of their labours with several EPs landing in quick succession. The 13th outing is a various artists affair that features two cuts from Saison on the A-side, though it is a Ross Couch remix of 'The Riff' that opens up. It's feel-good house with nice dancing piano chords and a Balearic feel while 'Feel This' brings more summery chords and dusty drum loops for some open-air dancing fun. Vertigini then offers the 90s-tinged 'Box Of Pandora' and Mo'Cream closes out with the already classic 'I'm Sure.'

Review: Dutch duo Dam Swindle are masters of updating traditional house sounds with a subtle contemporary twist. That is exactly what they have long been doing on their own superb Heist Recordings label and now they make the step over to Jimpster's equally vital Freerange with a fresh new EP. 'Unfinished Business' kicks off with sustained chords that bring a classic touch next to some steamy vocals and warm chords. 'Under The Spell' is more loose limbed and soul drenched, then a Crue remix brings some real heft to 'Unfinished Business.' Last but not least is 'Woman', a laid back vibe with swirling chords for loved up floors.

Opening it up is Ernes Joey & Robbin Hauz with 'U Should Know' (feat Shea Doll - Age Of Rage remix) which is a version by Dubbyman alongside Dan Piu with some delightfully jazzy keeps, seductive deep house drums and aching vocals full of heart. The original is a stripped-back sound with less melodic luxuriousness but the still superb vocal front and centre. Dubbyman then mixes Klima Project's 'Sweetback' into a mid-tempo, cuddly back room deep house sound and Patrice Scott Reshapes it with some crystal-cut synth lines that bring cosmic charm.

Review: Spanish deep house proponents Mate return with a fresh new 12" from Deenamic. The Barron's EP kicks off with 'Barron's TV' featuring Danny Fm and it is a lively, soul-drenched cut with jazzy Rhodes jams and humid chords over a dusty beat. 'Running' is a Moodymann-style, frayed runs the edges and sample-heavy workout full of funk and sex, and 'Release It' shuts down with some bulky beats, smoky vocal soul and nebulous late-night synths that swirl around the mix like flickering candles.

To mark the occasion, Superstition has decided to serve up this lovely, boxed 'anniversary edition'. He has arrived on a range of labels and now finds himself on Departure Lounge out of Australia where he offers up four late-night and sophisticated sounds. 'Fantasies' pairs whispered vocals with a distant synth line that has a pensive sense of futurism to it. 'Rhodes For Me' has sparkling chords that show off Byron's playing chops, 'Hearts' is devastatingly, beautifully melancholy deep house and 'Lailah's Voyage' has jazzy trumpets, vast, dusty kicks and knackered groove that is all loved up. His best EP yet? Maybe.

It is one the label has been cooking up for a while but proves more than worth the wait. 'Living My Life' is the one original collab and is smooth, buttery deep house with lush vocal tones. Review: Laurant Webb, Dave Coker, Justin Bailey, and Dave Pine were the key figures behind Strange Weather Studios, which was a creative hub in Southeast London that helped shape the very early sound of tech house in the capital. Collaborating with friends and partners on several projects, they produced a number of influential records that defined the genre including under aliases such as Housey Doingz, 7th Voyage, and Space Bunny. This release on Sushitech, which always does a fine job of offering up the best tech house past and present, pays tribute to the studio and its collaborators with representative tracks carefully selected by Laurant Webb and label head Yossi Amoyal. Restored and remastered from rare DATs and pressed up to no fewer than six sides of vinyl, it's a great look at a significant moment in the evolution of tech house.

Review: Dance newcomer Shonky debuts on Wicked Bass with 'The Way It Goes'l, an EP-length musing on means-biding and compromise. The titular opener lays down a swagged-out minimal electro-tech slinker against a hip pitched-down narration portraying the virtues of unerring calm under pressure or sameness in the face of change: a prodigal voice burrs, touting "the way I do... the way it goooes", resounding with a sturdily stylish blingy ring. A2 'Compromise' reveals equally how we'll just have to grin and bare it, though the suspenseful Italo strings and synths therein hardly let on this fact alone, instead offering a mood of boundless potential. B-siders 'Darkness Is Around' and 'Kranken Sister', meanwhile, move much more lo-fi, exposing the joyous horrors of breaking the treaties of compromise.

Review: Fred P's latest release 'Singular Point of Focus' EP feels like a late-night journey into the heart of the dancefloor, a space where euphoria meets introspection. From the opening track, it's clear that Fred is steering us toward something deeper than a simple collection of club-ready cuts. His use of augmented vocals adds an otherworldly quality, with tones that feel familiar but are impossible to place. The EP is a masterclass in controlled tension, with each track building in intensity without ever losing its groove. Fred's voice, subtly manipulated, dances through the layers of deep house rhythms, creating a sound that's both timeless and distinctly now. There's a sense that this is music for those who know, for selectors and dancers alike who understand the unspoken rules of the floor. The richness of the sound design - thick basslines, textured pads, and sharp percussion - draws you in, while the overall vibe remains firmly forward-thinking. This isn't just an exercise in nostalgia; Fred P has crafted a record that speaks to the future of house music while honouring its roots. Each track offers something different, from the floor-shaking opener to the more introspective closing cut, making it a perfect addition to any discerning DJ's crate.

For their first trick, they enlist the fine sounds of Italian Afro house and disco man Gledd, who shows his skills across blends of Latin, jazz, house, and world music influences. 'Jazz Con Sabor' opens with lots of frosty cymbals and big horn stabs over shuffling drums, then 'Dile' has a more playful and funky skip to it that soon infects your soul. 'No Lo Quiero Saber' (Latin mix) is deeper, more percussive and packed with sunshine from the expressive vocals.

Review: Sydney-to-Vancouver dance debonair Jack J presents Blue Desert, his second album for Mood Hut. Friends of the label will know J's sound - warming house musical pumps come deep future Balearics - and yet on Blue Desert, we hear the sound tempered by a newfound indie vocal performance by J himself, and that's not to mention its expansive tracklist-trajectory, which, when followed in full, details a head-hung but still hopeful tale of rue and recompense. Of the highlights, opener 'Wrong Again' opts for the true-blue choice of a DX7 organ blearily blent with an open chorded jangle guitar and a sequencer-gated trance line, as J muses on taking a past life too seriously; 'Down The Line' brings impressive Oort clouds of reverse reverb and desert new wave; and 'My Other Mind' even echoes Squeeze, as J continues to lyricise over misunderstandings and perspectival shifts on life. Sight of the dance is not lost, however; 'Pink Shoes (part III)' ends things on a gushing iso-stab, rendering the beach disco in clear-as-day clarity, just over the dunes, at the foreshore's end.

We'd probably wager it had been packed with sonic allotropes of bismuth-209 if it weren't for a more simple explanation: its stratospheric breakbeat construction - packed with orchestral hits, scratchy drums, burbly basslines and echoic pianos - had nailed the genre form to a T, while also working in one of the most reassuring and catchy vocal hooks in rave history from vocalist Kirsty Hawkshaw. In turn a rave musical interpretation of the 1983 ballad It's A Fine Day by Mancunian poet, musician and all round eccentric legend Edward Barton, the lyrics therein capture the puce innocence of going about one's day. That a theme so quotidian should end up worked into an ultimately ecstatic, not-so-quotidian rave tune is welcomingly ironic. So too is it welcome that Opus III should still be releasing remixes and new versions of the song to this day. Here's a sick 'XXIV' version, alongside phat outta-bounds garage version from Shadow Child.

Review: Butter Side Up's twelfth release, 'Weekend at Raymond's Place', comes from San Diego's hotly tipped John Manhard. This propulsive six-tracker moves rawly and without restraint, riffing both lo-fi and hi-fi sonic source points around central bass loops and classic 808 toms. Much befitting of a bar-back-roomed vision of Los Angeles away from peak tourist season, Manhard quietens our appetites for more brazen music with stretchy samply murmurs and classic house beep synths ('Soul Shack'), not to mention the increasing broken beat pistes he decides to bowl down towards the EP's end.

Review: Avidya is back with a third EP to build on the head-turning success of the first two and it is another trip to the outer edges of the dancefloor. Odopt from Born Free and 777 Recordings kicks off with a snappy cut that is deceptively simple but devastatingly effective with its gurgling and acidic bass. Remotif is a fast-rising talent who impresses with the heavy techno sludge of 'HAJKSD15' and Full Circle aka Alexis Le Tan and Joakim link with Kris Baha to offer a remix that is all twitchy electrons, busted drum loops and fizzing pads before 53X's 'Simulaatio' is another brilliantly loose jumbled of wiry electronics, sci-fi effects and techno chug for a fantastic closing beatdown.

Review: The Horizontal Games EP by Arapu and Gescu on Liniar delivers three tracks that are tailor-made for the dancefloor, each bringing a unique energy and groove. Side-1 features 'The V2,' a track that blends a funky electro groove within a solid techno structure. The deep and atmospheric vibes make it a great mix that's both engaging and danceable. On Side-2, 'Horizontal' begins things with a bouncy tech house vibe, perfect for getting the crowd moving. It's playful and energetic, making it a go-to track for setting the party mood. The EP closes with 'Games,' which features a strong bassline and beautiful keys that add depth to the track. It's a deep and sophisticated cut that rounds out the EP nicely. The Horizontal Games EP is ideal for DJs looking to inject some fun and groove into their sets.

Review: Shaka's new drop on Selections is a delightful one that combines real jazz melodies with authentic deep house. Opener 'Sacred Church' (feat Eve - main mix) immediately wins you over with the buys keys, Rhodes chords and eco-system of cosmic synths that busy about while the soulful vocal oozes cool. Jon Cutler's Distant Music mix pairs things back and makes it more of a smoky late night sound and 'Shaker Games' then blisses you out with dusty drum depths and incidental chords that are magically feel good. 'Get Me Higher' shuts down with some superb US house vibes.

Review: We're big fans of Byron The Aquarius here at Juno HQ and it is hard to think why anyone wouldn't be. The master keys man and former hip-hop producer has been turning out a steady and quality stream of deep house deliciousness in recent years and that's what he does again here on US label Toucan Sounds. 'Baddest Behavior' (feat Brandon Markell Holmes) kicks off with chord-laced deep house bliss and a magnificent vocal, 'Freed 4 OG's' (with Coto Loco - feat Rasheeda Ali) is a more lively and percussive jam with more rickety beats and nimble chords and 'I Be Like Dat' brings lovely wet claps and low-key soul to a US garage groove. A series of remixes on the flip seals the deal.
