Review: Artificial Owl Recordings welcomes aboard New Yorkers Satoshi Tomiie and Naotake Gunji for the label's fifth release; a recording of their collaborative A_A project and live show, which first came to light at the Fridman Gallery in Manhattan. A_A, an ongoing audio project, explores the visceral tension between floor-centric ambient electronica and improvised sound/audio performance. Here, found and object-activated sounds fire a collective dub trigger, producing a distinctly somatic regrounding across five original works.

Review: Finland's Olli Aarni delivers two swirling, longform tape meanderings on Dauw Belgium. Aarni's music is effortlessly analogous to organic structures and growth, and the A-side is a blissfully suspended, gauzy trip, with resonant pads and emotive tintinnabulations permeating thick, gravelly clouds of teeming tape flutter. On the flip, hollow drones give way to a dense haze of soft noise and abstraction, before regressing to purer sine rumblings towards a cathartic conclusion.

Review: Abschaum's Quand Viennent Les Serpents is a captivating exploration that seamlessly merges electronic and rock elements while delving into ambient, folk, and krautrock styles. The album's standout feature lies in its ability to blend folk tones and instruments with abrasive dissonant effects, resulting in a fascinating and dramatic folk adventure. Throughout the album, Abschaum crafts a progressive rock aura, showcasing their prowess in blending electronic and rock influences. Each track offers a meditative and experimental journey, inviting listeners to immerse themselves in the band's innovative soundscapes. Do It To The Music (Fred Falke X Zen Freeman remix)
Review: 'Technopera' is the debut EP by Ampersounds (Fred Falke and Zen Freeman), featuring Rufus Wainwright. It's a bold claim for a debut electro-house EP to feature vocals by such a renowned artist. But Fred Falke nad Zen Freeman are no rookies either, having won the hearts of many a house and techno reveller in France, Europe and beyond since the 1990s. Ampersounds and the Wainwright collab was made manifest after an intellectual chat the trio shared over some highfalutin poetry; fittingly, Technopera has an air of intellectualism about it, with highlights like 'Solitude Of Heart' portraying a downtrodden mood blended with smart production and nods to '80s tropes.

Review: After a brief production delay, this long-awaited and highly in-demand vinyl pressing is finally ready. 'Scott Pilgrim Takes Off' was a huge hit when it released on Netflix last year, and this gatefold includes the amount of care and goodies you would expect - prints, beautiful art on the inner sleeves and two different coloured discs alongside a mini-comic. The California electro-rock output's hallmarks are everpresent, from the tongue-cheek whit of the vinyl-exclusive extended version of 'Techno Syndrome' (a Mortal Kombat theme sample) to the masterful chiptune bangers and rocking guitars. It's well worth picking this up before it inevitably sells out.

Review: Angelyne sophomore LP, Driven to Fantasy is the latest great album to get reissued as part of Dark Entries' 15th-anniversary celebration. Defined by her voluptuous, Barbie-esque allure and hot pink Corvette, Angelyne emerged as an enigmatic figure in 1984 who graced LA billboards with a provocative presence. The mystique and allure around her built to a peak and culminated in this second solo album released in 1986. Featuring eight tracks of bubblegum-hued new wave, Angelyne blends LA punk grit with flashy synth-pop on sassy titles like 'Sex Goddess' and 'Skin Tight.' This cult classic, now pressed on pink Corvette-coloured vinyl, includes a 2-sided poster with lyrics and commemorates the legacy of a true Hollywood legend.

Review: Video game soundtrack issuers Iam8bit continue to do god's work in pressing the scores for noughties console classics to high-qual, heavyweight vinyl. This time around we're graced with the championed OST for Persona 4 by Shoji Meguro and company, who lent their spacious, effects-laden broken jazzdance and ambient pop production skills to Japan's premier game deveopment company Atlus, amounting to a hilariously phat and still DJ-mix-worthy OST. With the series following a high school student dragged into a string of murder mysteries, the eponymous Persona superpower emerges as the ability to manifest one's own psyche, a power that becomes increasingly vital to successfully unmask the perpetrator. The soundtrack is quizzical, chin-scratching and yet boisterous to match, mirroring the urgency and drive of a beside-the-law adolescent PI with a just cause.

Review: In celebration of the 20th Anniversary of Naruto, 22d Music top up their excitations with a new, symphonic rendition of the music of the famous anime series. Beginning with a eureka moment shared between musician Jerome Leclercq and licensing company Mediatoon, the initial idea was to recreate the entire soundtrack for a live-streamable cinema concert in celebration of the imminent anniversary. Originally composed by Toshio Masuda, Naruto's OST is at its core a fusion project, blending traditional Japanese folk instruments such as the Shakuhachi and Shamisen with the familiar stylings of pop rock, effortlessly portraying the series' coming-of-age angst and ninja-starring energy and delivering it to an international audience, all while bottling the essence of the musical heritage of Japan. Reinterpreted by a 50-strong orchestra, and accompanied by an original montage of the best moments from the anime, this is a must-have for all the Naruto ultrafans out there.

Review: Blissful Balearic brimmers from the artist known only as Basso, whose longstanding efforts as a record collector, label head, storyteller and all-round obsessive all pay off with this latest record via International Feel. Keeping the curation short and sweet, Sitting In Trees is an eight-track rendezvous to the Island; it follows, in a well-timed fashion, on the hot heels of his very own label Growing Bin, whose releasing of music in this vein knows few bounds and is by now probably more than overflowing. Sifting through the reams of dusty but still golden trance tapes, private presses, and smooth jazz obscurios to find the cuts - by Peak Of Normal, Patrick Jahn, Erobique et al. - to make up this short but sweet LP’s worth.

Review: Bersarin Quartett is the work of Thomas Bucker, who since 2012 has released his flagship ambient project via Denovali. The Munster-based artist employs a grandiose orchestral lilt to the compositions on Systeme, threading considered sound design touches in amongst the sweep and swell of strings that rise from his imaginary quartet of players. It's neo-classical with a plaintive, soundtrack-ready quality, but as ever Bucker weaves tension, dissonance and texture in amongst the foreground melodic content to make for a richly compelling listen.

Review: First released in 2012, this highly acclaimed second full-length album flaunts the unique musical style of the German artist Thomas Bucker, the mastermind behind Bersarin Quartett. II is a mesmerizing blend of ambient, electronic and classical music, making for a classic example of the solo-artist-masquerading-as-a-group subversion. Proving that the sonic expressions of classical music that are normally connoted with ensembles can be pulled off by an individual, titles like 'Zum Greifen nah' and 'Alles ist ein Wunder' reflect the sublime feel of epic film music, while evoking every influence from The Flashbulb to Bohren & Der Club Of Gore. Now reissued on vinyl by Denovali, the Quartett can be heard once again, in all their crescendoing glory.

Review: The long-awaited reissue of Bersarin Quartett's II is finally here to enjoy. Originally released in 2012, this modern classical and ambient album has got tremendous word of mouth support for its uniqueness and originality, its flavour somewhere between spacey and post-classical. The album certainly has a minimalistic approach to it and at times there are chamber-like tones that overlap with drone, making for an intelligent and very engaging album. This edition is released on clear vinyl.

Review: Everything Is Connected (Best Of) marks a significant milestone in Blancmange's illustrious 45-year career. Curated by their now sole member, singer Neil Arthur, this collection expertly captures the essence of the band's evolution, blending iconic hits with personal favorites. Emerging from the UK's post-punk DIY scene, Blancmange achieved widespread acclaim with their 1982 LP Happy Families, earning gold status in the UK and spawning international hits. With seven Top 40 singles and 70 weeks in the UK album charts, Blancmange's influence extends far beyond their genre. Their impact on British synth-pop reverberates through the words of admirers like Moby, John Grant, and Honey Dijon, who recognize their pivotal role in shaping the house music scene. Everything Is Connected features timeless classics such as 'Living On the Ceiling', 'Waves,' 'Blind Vision,' and a poignant cover of Abba's 'The Day Before You Came.' Alongside these hits are recent favorites like 'What's The Time,' 'Reduced Voltage,' and 'Some Times These,' showcasing Blancmange's enduring relevance and innovation. This compilation is a fitting tribute to a band whose music continues to resonate with audiences worldwide.

Review: Brainwave Research Center is back once again with another superb album, and once again Chase Smith and Christa Majoras embody a unique DIY sound crafted from analog synthesizer experimentations. This is another entry into the duo's initial four-part series and it encapsulates the essence of summer. The A-side commences with a dreamy narrative that transitions into the gritty urban landscape of Brooklyn in 'Interceptor iii,' and concludes with euphoric sunset vibes. On the B-side, the music delves into the sensation of falling in dreams, reminiscent of their second album Mosaic, again blending electronic and acoustic elements. Feel Free, then, invites listeners into the everyday musings of Brainwave Research Center and is a classic listen for fans of locked-in rhythms.

Review: Originally released on tape by SicSic in 2014, Aprilnacht commemorates a decade of music from Brannten Schnure and marked the spring in a tetralogy of albums about the four seasons. When it was first released, Brannten Schnure consisted solely of German musician Christian Schoppik; it was only after this period that he'd continue to hone is gothic folk romanticism and pastoral neoclassical sound, thereafter enlisting the help of vocalist Katie Rich as well. Now reissued by the esteemed Aguirre Records, Aprilnacht returns for a second haunting, retro-spectrally calling to mind its eerie sound collages and dusty sampler assemblages.

Review: Spell Blanket - Collected Demos 2006-2009 by Broadcast offers a rare glimpse into the creative process of Trish Keenan and James Cargill during the post-Tender Buttons period. This compilation features songs and sketches drawn from Keenan's extensive archive of four-track tapes and MiniDiscs, laying the groundwork for what would have been Broadcast's fifth album. The recordings showcase the duo's experimental approach to music-making, with Trish and James exploring new sonic territories and refining their distinctive sound. The photography used in the artwork is captured by Trish and James themselves, adding a personal touch to the collection. Designed by Broadcast's long-time collaborator Julian House, the artwork complements the nostalgic yet forward-thinking nature of the music.

Distant Call: Collected Demos 2000-2006
Cat: WARPCD 373. Rel: 28 Sep 24
Review: Broadcast's Collected Demos collections span era-defining moments that dot the band's career. One of several new demo compilations to mark the band's sad closing knell, Distant Call is one such record, and comprises fourteen demos that were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon. Though most of these are tenderer versions of these songs of yore, two cuts here - 'Come Back To Me' and 'Please Call To Book' - are formerly unheard originals, both of whose songwriting is credited to the band's own Trish Keenan, discovered shortly after her passing in 2011. Full of dusty deuteragonies and gothic, tape-hued waltzes, this is a rare, once-in-a-lifetime, stripped back snapshot of the band's cutting room floor.

Review: One of several final demo collections by the band Broadcast, all recorded between 2006 and 2009, to be released before they say their final goodbyes to the world as a group. Comprising songs and sketches drawn from the four-track tape archives of the late Trish Keenan, who died in 2011, Spell Broadcast seems a befitting title for the audio-incantation that this large set of 36 originals seems to cast over us. The recordings lay the groundwork for what would have been Broadcast's fifth album, offering a window into Trish and James Cargill's creative process during the post-Tender Buttons period from 2006-2009.

Please Call To Book
Review: As the title suggests, Broadcast have collected all their demo recordings made between 2000 and 2006 and compiled them onto a single 14-track record. But that's not the main piece of news: sadly, this one marks the end of releasing from the band, tying the bow on an game-changing career to say the least. Many of these tender tidbits were worked into finished productions appearing on Haha Sound, Tender Buttons and The Future Crayon; it's an impressive flex to be able to flaunt your one-offs and pack them onto a single recorded finale. What's more, the connotations aroused by form - demos - as well as the sonic content of these gems plays nicely up to Broadcast's now well-established aesthetic, which is one for the ages, to be sure. The album also includes two songs discovered by James after bandmate Trish's passing: 'Come Back To Me' and 'Please Call To Book' which was her response to Broadcast's 2006 'Let's Write A Song' project, where fans were asked to submit lyrics on a postcard which would then be worked into a finished song.

Budd's jazzy and groovy score perfectly complements the gritty atmosphere of the film, showcasing his musical genius. Review: The stylistic moniker of one Marc Dwyer (formerly in collaboration with fellow Sydney scene denizen Rebecca Liston, but now solo), Buzz Kull is an impressively accomplished darkwave and neo-EBM project that's been active since 2010. Returning to the equally esteemed Funeral Party Records, with whom Dwyer has enjoyed a productive relationship for a good while now, New Kind Of Cross delivers yet one more album-length handful of dark, danceable, anti-oppressive, cold-future-ambivalent, hysterical-discursive tracks, manifesting in a uniquely occultic sonic nonagram. Our faves have got to be the climactic 'Existence', on which a pervasive atmosphere of defeatist authoritarian realpolitik abounds - "I've never felt existence outside of this system" - and the title track, which exemplifies Dwyer's preference for beautifully textured, subliminally lo-fi arps and emphatic "eurrghs" abounding in the FX send.

Halloween III Season Of The Witch (Soundtrack)
Review: John Carpenter and Alan Howarth's soundtrack for Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a chilling masterpiece that perfectly complements the eerie atmosphere of the film. Released in 1982, the score combines Carpenter's signature synthesizer melodies with Howarth's electronic expertise to create a hauntingly atmospheric soundscape. Tracks like 'Chariots of Pumpkins' and 'Halloween Montage' are iconic examples of their collaborative genius, instilling a sense of dread and unease. The pulsating rhythms and sinister melodies enhance the film's suspense and terror, making it a standout in the realm of horror soundtracks. Carpenter and Howarth's collaboration remains a timeless classic for horror aficionados.

Review: A decade after John Carpenter's groundbreaking Lost Themes debut, his collaboration with son Cody Carpenter and godson Daniel Davies, the pioneering composer and director has revitalised his career. Lost Themes IV: Noir explores the essence of film noir, infusing Carpenter's signature synth-driven sound with dark, atmospheric motifs. Described as "soundtracks for the movies in your mind," these compositions evoke the mysterious allure of classic noir films. While traditional noir scores relied on orchestral arrangements, Carpenter, Carpenter, and Davies craft their distinctive sound with synths and guitars, capturing the essence of the genre. With this latest installment, they continue to redefine Carpenter's musical legacy, transcending mere homage to create immersive sonic experiences.

Review: Cluster's Zuckerzeit stands as a landmark in electronic music, showing the duo's innovative approach to ambient electronic soundscapes. Unlike their self-aware avant-garde contemporaries, Cluster's music emerges as a pure expression of their passion for electronic gadgetry and songwriting. The album's subtle shift in sound from their previous work heralds a more intriguing style characterized by bubbling ideas and electronic manipulation. Tracks like 'Hollywood' and 'Caramel' paint vivid pictures with gloriously chunky synthesizers and jerky drumbeats, evoking reflective and playful tones respectively. 'Rote Riki' ventures into experimental territory with alien-like synths and throbbing bass, while 'Rosa,' "Fotschi Tong,' and 'Marzipan' conjure images of ambient space exploration with colorful synthesizers and relaxed drumbeats. 'Caramba' and 'James' delve deeper into experimentation, showcasing Cluster's versatility. Closing with 'Rotor' and 'Heiße Lippen,' the album maintains its pace, with motorik beats and droning sounds adding to the overall spacey atmosphere. Clocking in at under forty minutes, Zuckerzeit is a dynamic journey through Cluster's boundless creativity, setting a new standard for electronic music.

Review: Unusual Systems returns with their seventh release, a 12” single with sides shared between pushers Corp and Cavalry Stone. Traversing the wastes of bolshy Italo and new beat, and lending both an apocalyptic flair, opener ’The End Of The Days’ seems to sonically describe as much through its use of massive gate-snares, janky ascendant riffs, and trancelike string-n-stab breakdowns. Allegedly: Yamaha RM1x as main sequencer, Kawai K1, EMU Xtreme Lead, Quasimidi Techno X and Ensoniq DP/4 as fx processor. Master direct recorded to a Tascam 424 Mk1 cassette tape recorder. 0 daw or software used. Impressive! The B is brought up rawly and raggedly by Spanish duo Cavalry Stone, who match the A’s eerie melodic aura with a similarly strange lo-fi electro cut, sounding originally bound for cassette.

Review: Marie Davidson's latest single 'Y.A.A.M.' is a poignant critique of power dynamics in the music industry - favouring authenticity and passion in a world that thrives on branding and transactional relationships - out of which the Canadian artist finds fuel to fan the driving flames of existential industrial electro-techno. The track opens with a juddering, in-between-4x4-and-2-step electro beat, which lasts for over a minute before Davidson takes up the mic: "do you follow me?". What ensues is an imperfect list of music industry quibbles, which flow over the monstrously huge backing - "entrepreneurs, influencers, producers, managers / nothing for you and me" - in stark but gallows-comedic contrast to the plea to relocate our arses to the dancefloor. In Davidson's own words, the track was inspired by a haughty, lecturing email from a music industry insider: "I took the opportunity to write down how I felt about the words," she recalls, "and the overall tone of arrogance of what I had just been sent quickly, I found myself having a bit too much fun."

Landing somewhere in a soothingly liminal zone between the lighter and more introspective tone floats of La Monte Young and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma's roomy feedback washes, the trio extract a vast array of sweet, soporific and unconventional timbres from instruments both acoustic and electrified to meditative effect. A perfect soundtrack to studious introspection and languid bliss-outs alike.

DDrhode & Sohrab are behind this one and it opens with the airy percussive pattern and suspensory loops of deep and deft jam 'Ghoroob' (Kryptic Rhythm) which becomes dusty downbeat and late-night jaunt when served up as the 'Haleeteh?' version. 'Azadi' has the feel of a sixties spy thriller with its mysterious leads and 'Distant Sun' shuts down with some zoned out and loved-up deep house romance. Another hard-to-define but easy-to-love EP from the already vital Kolony Gorky.

Review: Dettinger's Oasis, originally released in 2000, is an ethereal symphony of ambient textures and minimal techno. Its unique blend of orchestral elements, effects, and occasional beats creates a captivating and strangely peaceful sonic landscape. Each track offers a hypnotic journey. 'Oasis #2' pulsates with a gentle rhythm, while 'Oasis #3' transforms Balearic melodies into grainy memories. 'Oasis #4' showcases Dettinger's experimental side, merging techno with abstract soundscapes, while 'Oasis 6' infuses dub influences, adding a touch of warmth and groove. The album's appeal lies in his ability to fuse the organic and the electronic. Orchestral swells soar above pulsating synths, creating a sense of drama and allure. The result is a sonic oasis that transports listeners to a realm of serenity and wonder. Fans of Wolfgang's Voigt's Gas project or labels like Mille Plateaux, Staubold, RasterNoton and others may already know this masterpiece, but if you don't, then do not miss this.

Review: Veteran electrohead and former artist on the Rephlex Records roseter DMX Krew's Ed DMX takes the well-known story by Jorge Luis Borges of The Library of Babel, said to contain all the different languages of the earth. Some deep philosophical thought has gone into the album's concept, but we'll leave that to Ed to explain. Instead, we'll tell you that from beginning to end there's plenty of the kind of trademark 80s synth playfulness in evidence, with a generally more mellow and soundtrack-related rather than frenetic and dancefloor-filling vibe in evidence, even on faster tracks like 'The Combed Thunderclap'. Still, Ed knows what he's doing when it comes to this kind of leftfield electro gear, and it's a rewarding, never boring listen.

Review: Eno is a new and groundbreaking documentary that explores the multifaceted career of musician, producer, artist, and activist Brian Eno. Compiled from extensive footage, music, and interviews, each screening of the film is different as it delves into Eno's music, art, and ideas. Accompanying this cinematic journey is a soundtrack spanning Eno's illustrious career, from early solo works to recent collaborations. Released on CD, the album features tracks from 14 different albums, including three previously unreleased recordings. 'Lighthouse #429, the first track from Eno's Sonos radio station, offers a glimpse into his extensive archive and overall this album celebrates Eno's influential legacy.

Review: Jerskin Fendrix, a South London 'Windmill' scenester who has colaborated with Black Midi and is associated with the likes of Black Country New Road among others, is one of the last names you'd expect to see soundtracking a big movie, but then Poor Things' director Yorgos Lanthimos is a character who rarely plays by the rules. This is the first film of his to include an original soundtrack, and also Fendrix's first soundtrack, the latter describing their relationship as being that of young lovers encountering the experience for the first time. The results are coy and innocent sounding, probably as a result, as well stirring and melancholic, with an emphasis on the breathier sounds in the canon and unusual instruments such as harp, bagpipes and hamonium alongside the more traditional strings and other orchestral trimmings. A remarkable soundtrack for a remarkable film.

Symphony Of A Great City: Backing Track
Cat: SOL 201CD. Rel: 26 Jul 24
Review: Backing Track by Simon Fisher Turner is a unique and innovative score commissioned for the film Symphony of a Great City by Walther Ruttmann. Turner's approach to creating the score involved using tones and pitches from MARX on Ableton Live, as well as incorporating home recordings made during his visits to Berlin over several decades. Collaborating with musicians Klara Lewis and Rainier Lericolais, Turner sent them his source tapes and encouraged them to process the recordings, ensuring that all sounds originated from various times and locations within the city itself. The result is an excellent blend of past and present, with sounds spanning different eras of Berlin's history. From the pre-Soviet era to the post-wall era, Turner's compositions evoke a sense of timelessness and nostalgia. The use of analogue and digital recording techniques adds depth and texture to the music, creating a rich sonic landscape that transports listeners to the heart of Berlin. Backing Track shows Turner's creativity and ingenuity, offering a fresh perspective on the relationship between music, film, and urban landscapes. It invites listeners to explore their own interpretations and reimagine the sounds of the city in their own unique way.

Review: In the ongoing Palestinian humanitarian crisis, more and more artists are taking a stance against perceived injustices in the war agaist Hammas. Following Annie Lennox's "Artists for ceasefire. Peace" outcry at the Grammys in January, coming at the end of a heartwrenching rendition of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' in memoriam of Sinead O'Connor, Fontaines DC is using their platform to raise funds for Medecins Sans Frontieres. 'Ceasefire' is a collaborative EP with trip-hop collective Massive Attack and progressive hip-hop group Young Fathers. Each group is donating their music into one compilation, where 100% of the profits are being donated to the non-profit humanitarian organisation. The 12" comes in one of 4 colour combinations, where the disc and two contrasting colours on the cover (designed by Massive Attack's 3D) sport one of the bold colours of the Palestinian flag.

Review: The hallowed grounds of Switzerland’s Hallow Ground label are a fecund floor for cultivating the best ambient experimental music out there. Owing to their curatorial precision and charm, they welcome Japanese composer and sound artist Fujiiiiiiiiiiita (Yosuke Fujita) back to the fore for a sophomore album release. Having already released a slew of records whilst also touring the world, Fujita’s latest album hears him in a rare space of quietude, documenting a recent studio rejig to incorporate several new additions, such as adding an electric air pump to his pipe organ and expanding on the use of his own voice. A challenging but ultimately rewarding work, with subtle vocal and textural experiments always peeking through the strata.

Alluvium

Review: Alluvium is the third in German experimental producer Stefan Goldmann's series of albums exploring the "first principles" research of metric asymmetry. Exploring new structural paths for machine rhythm in irregular metres, the album seems non-binary patterns running simultaneously, moving in and out of interlocking focus, across twelve offerings of "jagged polyrhythmic magic". With Veiki (2019) and Vector Rituals (2022) already gaining him a growing fan base for his unexpectedly constructed but melodically lush compositions, Alluvium is sure to be well received by those with an ear for the previously undiscovered terrains of leftfield electronics.

Review: Oakland, CA trio Houses Of Heaven draw on elements of industrial pop, post-punk, electro and experimental on their latest full-length Within/Without, their second LP for label Felte. Channelling the production prowess of Matia Simovich (INHALT) - and featuring top-of-their-game guest vocals from Douglas McCarthy (Nitzer Ebb) and Mariana SaldaNa (BOAN) - Within/Without marks a turn away from the dub-infused movements of their prior 2020 Silent Places, going full-on weighty and noir cyberpunk, but with an extra ear for texture that most other releases operating in said style cannot claim to match. Opener 'Strange Temptation' prefers its shutdown Reeses and crunching arp sequences, while mid-record peaktimer 'Deserve' proves itself unafraid of rapturous verbs and washes; the lust could go on, but all tracks here have a remarkable ability to both strike fear into the hearts of us puny humans and simultaneously make us prance.

Review: Identity Theft is the solo electronic music of Michael Buchanan, commencing in 2011 with the album Night Workers. Having previously released on labels such as Oraculo Records, Treue Um Treue, Record Label Records, and Katabatik, here he continues to astonish with the atmospheric, brooding and liturgical electro opus, Omnia Vitas. Rooted in Dusseldorf-school electro with strong leanings towards the more abstract krautrock origins of the genre, Vanitas continues to flesh out the themes of surveillance and paranoia - themes endemic to his music from the outset - albeit this time he also works in samples culled personally from the posthumous sonic archives of several departed (and unnamed) producer friends.

Review: French dystopi-dance duo Justice gear up for their fourth full-length album, Hyperdrama. Owing to their towering status as producers and artists, it marks their first album in seven years since 2016's Woman. Unlike the neater fusions of disco and funk that the band have achieved in the past, Auge and Rosnay describe their latest as an embittered battle between the two stereotypes, elaborating that the album 'oscillates between pure electronic and pure disco but you never really get the two at the same time'."

Review: Hyperdrama is the fourth full length album from the French Duo Justice. Two songs have preceded the album's May release. 'One Night/All Night (featuring Tame Impala)' is destined to be a club hit with its catchy EDM pop appeal. The bombastic electro pulser 'Generator' will also have a strong club appeal to it and you can expect the rest of the album to be just as strong with a production job that's clean and the tracks are powerful. This version comes in a beautifully designed gatefold 2xLP that also includes a sticker.

Review: Before I Die have been putting out some high-grade leftfield delights from respected operators like Bernardino Femminelli, Tungusku and most recently Sewell & The Gong. Now it's the turn of Klangkollektor, indulging a collection of hazy dub excursions which sit somewhere near Balearic splendour, piano-charged melancholy and isolation tank meditation. In the dub tradition the approach is consistent and evenly paced, but it's certainly not aiming for any kind of typical Jamaican sound. Instead, there's a gentle introspection to the melodic content which gels perfectly with the spacious approach to mixing, unfurling across four sides of wax for an album you can just melt into.

Detachment is the third full length album from Kontravoid, with the first view of it coming in the form of 'For What It Is', a powerful, anthemic and driving track featuring cues from techno and industrial equally, Kontravoid makes tracks that supersede any subgenres being more compared to groundbreaking 80s acts like Nitzer Ebb or Neon Judgement.

Through its meditative compositions, the record captures the essence of celestial zones and the boundless visions they evoke. Drawing inspiration from various sources, including radio telecopy, filmic dreams, and fictional renderings, the album transcends traditional boundaries to create a rich tapestry of sound and emotion. As a collaborative effort, Selene builds upon a lineage of musical exploration, bridging past and future with its innovative approach to composition and production.
