This Is Your Life (4am mix)
Final Space
Solaris
Obsession
Review: The well regarded Slow Life has always operated in in-between sound worlds that mix up techno, house and electro. It is Will Do who steps up for the label's latest release and once again subverts expectation across four fresh cuts. There is a cosmic energy tot he zippy synths of old school tech house cut 'This Is Your Life" (4am mix) while 'Final Space' is a more zoned out cruise on loose synth trails and snappy beats. 'Solaris' gets more direct but still operates in an astral world between the stars and 'Obsession' rounds things out with the sort of warming house glow that you want to feel when the sun starts to come up.

Review: Dutch producer Boris Werner's latest EP titled Hypnotherapy, lands at the Spanish label Limousine Dream. The record begins with the chunky house burner 'No Tantrums' that features MC Pryme laying some vocals over the track. 'Ochtend Glunderen' has a great mix of spacey sounds while still remaining focused and directed at a peak time dancefloor. For the second side, 'LSD (Love Saves The Day)' works a hedonistic tribal beat over some top tech house business. Lastly, 'Ghetto Mind Groove' is a clever change of pace that features a nice broken beat. Rocky Mc's over the top and helps get the party started right. Boris Werner is an experienced producer who know what kind of dance music works in the clubs.

Review: Velvet Velour's new outlet, Silky Beats, is back with a second brilliantly tasteful EP of superbly silky deep house and minimal sounds. This time out for top notch beat makers all feature with Tiago Walter kicking off. His wispy melodies and neon pads detail a feathery minimal beat while James Andrew's 'Turbo Shandy' is a playful mix of rasping synth textures and sci-fi synths over a loopy beat. Mtty pumps things up a little with a nice warm garage house shuffler in the form of 'The Elongator' and Duncan Thomas shits down with the dreamy pads adn laidback feels of 'Edzy & Eggsy.' A superb 12".

Stinger Pinger (Markus Sommer's GaryAblett Double Drop remix)
Review: Art Gang Records bursts onto the scene with Volen's Stinger Pinger EP, shows the LA-based producer's highly energetic and intergalactic sound. The three original tracks are excellent dancefloor numbers perfectly suited for the dark-lit rooms of underground clubs. 'Go' kicks things off with a great groove and techy atmosphere, offering a fun and futuristic dancefloor workout complete with infectious melodies. 'Last Tab' follows suit with its heavy acid house stomp, delivering a relentless assault on the senses. On Side-2, the title track 'Stinger Pinger' is successful with its deep rhythm machine programming, catchy hooks and jackin' beats, sure to keep the crowd moving till dawn. Markus Sommer's Gary Ablett Double Drop remix of 'Stinger Pinger' adds a groovy twist to the original, offering a fresh take that complements Volen's raw energy perfectly. Overall, some really strong dance tracks that are poised to win over techno and house crowds old and new.

Review: First of all, wow, how did this one already turn a quarter of a century old? It still sounds as wildly inventive now as it did back then and is fully deserving of this reissue. '808 The Bassqueen' is a truly mesmerising sonic journey that pushes the boundaries of electronic music with Villalobos's trademark blend of minimal techno and experimental soundscapes. Review: WC Heritage is a captivating journey into Japan's underground dance music scene of the 2000s, curated by Gonno for his newly launched Sanka label. This compilation resurrects treasured tracks from WC Recordings, a label that championed "Japanese anarchy techno" and released groundbreaking material in the digital and CD format from 2004 to 2009, now making its vinyl debut. Featuring contributions from esteemed artists such as Salmon, Baiyon, Side B, Syuji Wada (DJ Wada), DSKE and Gonno himself, WC Heritage offers nine tracks that exude an edgy 'glitchy-ness' and infectious intensity. Each piece serves as a snapshot of a vibrant and creative moment in Japan's dance music history, previously hidden from the outside world. With its pulsating rhythms, experimental textures, and raw energy, this compilation stands the test of time, offering a glimpse into the innovative spirit of Japan's underground scene. WC Heritage is not just a collection of tracks; it's a testament to the untapped creativity that thrived in the shadows, waiting to be discovered and appreciated by a wider audience.

Review: The secretive Only Music Matters label rolls out its seventh EP here and it's from an unknown producer or producers who seem to have a love of tech house. Opener 'AAA001A' is a warped cut for freaky 'floors with trippy vocal details and gloopy beats and bass. 'BBB001B' is more airy and light in its silky minimal rhythms but is detailed with some paranoid pads that keep you on edge while 'BBB002B' rides a nice gritty, propulsive beat and has some wonky, detuned keys adding colour. Another great outing from this low-key but high-quality label.

Review: The legendary Nervous Records outta New York kicks off a new vinyl series here with none other than tech house master Jay Tripwire at the helm alongside minimalist Vid and Dragomir. The Canadian opens up with the balmy cosmic tech of 'Box of Daggers' which his an empty, eerie late night roller with subtle percussion that keeps you locked. This one is another perfect masterclass in precise, stripped back grooves and it come son limited edition hand stamped 12". Review: This EP marks a coming together of two electronic music institutions as the ever-consistent Traumer lands on the always innovative FUSE. The sound designs here are next level as you would expect of this producer, and that's true right from the off. 'Nectar' is a fleshy, liquid, unbalanced dub tech cut to start with and 'Lemerci' then dials into a more heady and back-room-deep house with balmy pads circling around the beats. There is a more astral edge to the cosmic tech of 'First School' and 'Rodage' rounds out with nice bubbly and rubbery drums and effective claps that get those hips swinging.

Review: Toothpick aka Swirl People step out with their newly entitled label Lost In The Swirls, which they have distilled to the more simple name L.I.T.S. Records. The Belgium-based project is an alias of Dimitri & Raoul and they bring fresh house sounds here even though this is a reissue of some classic 90s material. The title track has lush and bright summer pads over driving, tight kick drums. The opener 'May The Funk Be With You' has a classic UK flavour to it with woodpecker-like hits and dusty drum loops under some smart chord work. Last but not least is 'Naked Speedway' which has a warm bassline meandering below expansive chords that bring an early morning vibe. Good stuff.

He lands on My King Is Light here with a nice and stylish EP that brings dub and minimal to his usual tech sounds. 'Hoarfrost' is an icy and frictionless opener rippled with soft melodies that soothe the soul. 'Hoarfrost' (Meditation dub) is a beatless lullaby, and 'Point Of View' then brings a little more drive but still has plenty of depth to its designs. Review: Mathijs Smit's debut EP on Superlux Records, titled Twisted Minds, is a triumphant return for the label after a brief hiatus. Smit's hybrid production style and distinctive vocoder work immediately caught the attention of the Superlux crew, and Twisted Minds does not disappoint. The EP features four modern and stylish house cuts, each showcasing Smit's versatility and development in the studio. Side-1 kicks off with 'Changed My Mind (But Not Myself),' a sleek and forward-thinking house jam that blends elements of the past with fast-paced organ bass melodies and intricate drum-machine programming. My Mind Is Yours' follows with shades of golden-era Italian progressive, serving as a no-nonsense feel-good party starter. On the second side, 'Plugger' delves deeper into the groove with a shuffling beat and moody bassline, accented by acid flourishes for a basement feel. Finally, 'Quiero' closes out the EP with interminable funkiness, leaving a lasting impression and cementing Smit's place as a valuable addition to Superlux's roster. 'Twisted Minds' continues Superlux's tradition of discerning dance music, and with Smit on board, the label is poised for further growth and success in 2024 and beyond.

Review: Asad Rizvi, known as Silverlining, presents this white hot three-vinyl set showcasing his collaborative work with fellow artists. This collection spans the genres of minimal and tech house, tagged with elements of tech house, minimal, and breakbeat house. Some of the highlights include 'If You Were A Cat You'd Follow Me' by Appleheadz with its jazzy downtempo future jazz vibe, evoking a smooth and melodic atmosphere. Followed by 'In My Sky' (instrumental), delivering smooth melodic tech house adorned with jazz guitar and soft keys. The set continues with 'Taken Over,' a melodic house gem from Bluegoose Vs Silverlining, exuding infectious rhythms and melodic hooks. 'Tuesday Morning Milkman' by Impossible Beings takes listeners on a deep techno journey, perfect for late-night sci-fi vibes. Another excellent additions is 'They'll Never Get It Right Them Two' by Two Right Wrongans, a dynamic banger that tears the roof off the dancefloor. Overall, this triple pack is jam-packed full of excellent dance music.

Review: Just when you think you've heard the last of Covid in music, along comes this Covid 2020 EP from Yotsume Music label head Saki Hiroaki, indicating that it was written during those most weird and dark times, specifically in the city of Kurashiki. 'I Say' (part 2) is a seriously silky deep house with wispy and liquid chords rippling out to an infinite horizon as the persuasive drums get you into the groove. 'Improvisation' is a more crisp tech cut but is still unhurried and detailed with nice deft synth curlicues and the trio of escapist gems is completed with 'TRAP'. This one again sinks you into a pillowy and gentle groove with muted chords drifting up top like clouds.

Review: Unbound Gravel by Ilija Rudman on Arpanet Records delivers a dynamic blend of electro-infused techno and funk-influenced house tunes. On Side1, 'You Know' pulsates with futuristic energy, propelled by a strong bassline, perfect for igniting the dancefloor. 'Tonight' leans more towards classic house vibes, offering a smooth transition with its groovy beats. For Side-2, 'Don't Stop' channels 80s funk influences into infectious house rhythms, while 'Glow' keeps the momentum going with its lively production and playful vibe. Rudman's knack for crafting dancefloor-ready tracks shines throughout this compilation, making it a must-have for fans of disco house and nu disco.

Olivier Romero gets dark and deep with his menacing 'Shout The Killer,' Josh Baker's 'Can Anybody Help' then gets more upbeat and party-ready with its silky pads and upright kicks, while Cosenza explores a raw and percussive tech house vibe with busy lead that zips about the mix. Review: Overground label co-founder Rickie is next up with four classy outings that operate in the worlds of minimal and tech house. First out of the blocks is the nice and futurist 'Foreknowledge' with its beeps and pulses colouring steely tech grooves. 'Controversial Sequence' is more zoned out with balmy pads bringing some far-sighted cosmic ambiance and 'Experiment X' on the flip does as all B1 cuts should - gets more loose and weirder for the late-night crew with wispy melodies and panning synth drones. 'Revolution' shuts down with a nice rueful and melancholic feel in the pads.

Once again he mixes up his slick infectious grooves with acid twitches and tripped out sonic motifs that make for tunes as effective on the mind as they are the body. 'It Works' is a slinky opener with low slung bass, 'The Darkhold' is more driven with dubbed out low ends and 'Far Far Out' gets a lil' freaky for the after party. Review: Standout Romanian producer makes a welcomed visit to the Rawax camp. The 'Metaphor EP' is a sublime example of superior primetime house music. 'The Wine Glass' is most optimal for dense crowds not worried about a little sweat and perhaps not enough foot space on the dancefloor. In fact, they love that! This is that kind of house music where you get happily drawn to the floor. 'Heal Dealer' adds a bit of acid and a beautiful underlying melody that is perfect for eyes closed listening moments. 'Doremi' is the ideal B-side as the deeper side to things, then the title track finishing off in style. Ali brings a great balance of techno and house to his sound. Rawax puts out a lot of music it seems like and when it's of this calibre, we just say bring us more!

It's subtly epic, charged with sweeps of orchestration which tease at a big drop to come. 'Flame' has a slightly more intimate, heads-down approach, but it's no less detailed and dynamically produced. 'Igako' explores some pop touches in the context of a bigger room sound which still holds fast to the slick tech house framework and 'Ask The Universe' takes a more delicate approach with pattering percussion and melancholic piano which will set any set off on a sentimental trip.

First, though, there's the small matter of this solo three-tracker, whose title - Dracula - references an alternative productive alias last used in 2021. He doffs a cap to hip-house on the devilishly bass-heavy and deliciously driving A-side, 'The Ways Are Mystic', which sounds like his usual brand of after-hours tech-house on steroids. Miller then reaches for creepy spoken word samples from vintage moves on flip-side opener 'F*ck The Future', whose bumpin' beats and bassline come cloaked in unsettling chords and minor-key electronics, before showcasing rumbling 'dark garage' bass, skipping beats and wonky noises aplenty on closing cut 'Groove Hammer'.

'Try To Make' is a perfect opener, riding on a sweetly swung groove with heavy, subby bass down low and Mood II Swing style dub chords chopping in up top. This one takes the form of a various artists' EP crafted with an intake feel for cosy floors and who better to kick off in that vibe than the revered Lawrence whose 'Hawser' is a groovy and melodious track. Next, New Jersey don Joey Anderson sets a slow and deep tone with 'Human Kind' which has moody vocals, and Japanese artist Takuya Matsumoto follows with 'Three Flowers', a more potent and driving cut with a fine acid bassline. Rounding off the EP is 'Desired Spring' by R/K, a loop-driven deep house gem designed for both listening and dancing.

Review: Electric Tools Vol 1 ignites with a four-track electro explosion, showcasing the talents of four very strong producers for one electric 12". Side-1 kicks off with the dynamic collaboration of Latent & Retrolog on 'Super Villain,' a fusion of electro and breakbeats adorned with captivating samples and a bassline that hits hard. Bok.p follows suit with 'Creator,' channeling early UK techno and bleep-styled vibes reminiscent of the golden era, evoking nostalgia akin to classics like 'Rhythm is a Dancer.' Flipping to Side-2, Lamalice presents 'AAS,' a melodic journey through early 90s techno, intertwining lush melodies with driving beats for a nostalgic yet forward-thinking experience. Closing the EP, Dixia Sirong's '23rd Step' offers a catchy blend of early 90s trance and techno, guaranteed to transport listeners to the heyday of electronic music. Electric Tools Vol 1 is a great example to the enduring appeal of techno, seamlessly blending retro influences with contemporary production techniques to deliver an electrifying listening experience that will leave fans craving more.

Review: Burnski's Constant Black kicks with yet more robust tech house for considered dance floors. This one comes from the ever-present underground stalwart Diego Krause and he opens with 'Bound', a perfectly driving and deep cut with slinky drums and smart vocals that are brought to life with sci-fi synth effects. 'Munro' is brilliantly lithe and elegant, with wispy synth motifs peeling off a super smooth and slinky groove. 'Phantom' ups the pace with a little more tech house urgency but still plenty of deftly designed cosmic pads. 'Flux' shuts down with kinetic, tightly coiled drum funk and popping neon colours. Great work all around from Krause.

Review: Moroccan favourite Kosh tops up a new trifecta of releases for his own Convergence label with this latest edition of 'Enslaved'. Melodic electro-acid tempered by vocoder lines (the 'Vox Mix'), speedy 4x4 trance ('Supernova') and deeper-down-the-rabbit-hole tabfests ('Above & Beyond'). Clearly, there's something here for everyone; even a delectable topping of bonus beats on the A2, which works just as well on its own as it does with its vocoded vocal centrepiece.

Review: London's Mindhelmet label continue on strong with the whopping 14th top-up to their vinyl-only 12"s series. This time they welcome Cologne's very own Johannes Kolter to the fore, for four originals compared to his usual penchant for edits. Glitzy sonic skylines come portrayed on the likes of 'Euro Night' and 'Eternity', with hints of Italo and electro-pop conjuring mental glimpses of high-end fashion houses and handbags, while 'Crashy' revels in a skilful use of speed garage swing reminiscent of MJ Cole's production approach; finally, closer 'Lion, Ne Kaufen' indulges a muted chord sequence for a eventidal rave vibe.

Review: Kepler is a man on fire right now - well, he has been for some time in fact. As well as serving up a new collaborative outing with Burnski, he has also put together this solo EP for Pilot. 'Zone' is a twitchy tech cut with bleeping melodies over silvery and silky tech drums. 'Good 2 Me' has a naughty shuffle to it as the crisp drums bring the infectious groove and the smart vocals add human colour. 'The Beat' kicks off the B-side with a nice squelchy bassline and some rude-boy sonic signifiers while 'Back Moving' then has a lovely low-slung swaying funk to it.

Review: Brian Kage is a Detroit mainstay who finally serves up a long waited debut album here in the form of Timeless Times, which seamlessly fuses classic house rhythms with the distinctive flair of Motor City techno and features top guests like Jon Dixon, Ob Ignitt and Luke Hess. It is a large and bold work that encompasses 19 tracks across four slabs of wax on his own Michigander label. Along the way, there are plenty of club-ready cuts, as well as a range of emotional landscapes that blend ambient textures and nostalgic vignettes into something timeless and escapist. Without a doubt, this is Kage's most personal work to date and an unmissable journey through the current sound of his famous home city.

Review: White Scar's goal is to release EPs that feature a club ready track from four various artists on each. On the first side, Jucid's 'Essential To Our Life' is a futuristic and energetic synth heavy techno track that is sure to keep the crowd pumped up. Zuul's 'Are You Neutralised?' adds a bit of mysteriousness and drama to this sci-fi novel soundtrack. For the second side, Desiree Falessi's 'Electro Samurai' offers a dramatic 80s tinged techno sound complete with the perfect amount of tech while Boheme's 'Spiral' wraps up the EP with another science fiction track that adds some fun to the sound. Overall, four superb examples of retro sounding techno with a bit of a trance and electro feel within.

Review: ILDEC is a perfect match for the cosmic odysseys served up by the superb Sex Tapes From Mars label and here unveils a four-track journey where each piece acts as a stellar beacon in the realm of groove. Ildec's blend of thudding drums, warbling basslines, and tingling synth leads transcends conventional techno's usual boundaries and adds plenty to root 90s influences while blurring terrestrial and extraterrestrial boundaries. There is a great depth to 'Pesadillas,' hypnotic propulsion to 'Listo Para El Space' and weightless disco-inspired allure to 'Dai Fra' which all make for fresh listening and dancefloor fun. 'You High' serves as both an anthem and proclamation, celebrating electronic music's boundless potential for transcendence.
