There's always something brilliant and hypnotic about the groove of Audio Werner and this album takes the brilliant sound of the master even further, crossing between proper deep techno and the more shuffled rhythms that we love.
On A Different Note is a triple gatefold 12" with eight fresh and well produced tracks. Extreme quality from both Sushitech and Audio Werner, per usual... Essential release!
Review: Given his productivity and the reliability of his release schedule, we were a little surprised to find that "Dawn Chorus" is actually Boris Bunnik's first Conforce album for two years. It's every bit as impressive and alluring as its predecessors, with the Dutch producer wrapping a variety of 6am sounds - frosty chords, dew-laden melodies, sunrise-ready motifs and bleary-eyed riffs - around crunchy and largely weighty beats. These are rooted in classic electro, techno and IDM, offering both titanium-clad heaviness and loose-limbed dancefloor flexibility. Highlights come thick and fast throughout, from the grumpy dub techno flex of "Marooned" and "Incunabula"-era Autechre vibes of "Solstice", to the buzzing, early morning insanity of "Umbra".

Review: While the Childhood Intelligence label has previous form when it comes to offering up multi-artist EPs, little they've released to date is quite as epic, expansive and eclectic as this compilation style double-pack. There's sadly not room to list all of the highlights and subtle variations on offer - it's pretty much fire from start to finish - but our current favourites include the acid-flecked sci-fi techno of Brad P's "Theory Test Level 3", the sparse, bass-heavy shuffle of Dei Sub's "Through Flow", the dreamy but out there ambient dub flex of QWERTY's "26xm (Canal Time Shift Mix)", the 21st century clonk revivalism of Reedale Rise's ace "Capricious" and the glistening analogue electro-meets-Chicago jack pulse of Cygnus' "Vega".
Review: Music From Memory's latest must-check reissue is a fresh pressing of an obscure 1985 album by Musica Esporadica, a six-piece collective whose members included regular label contributor Suso Saiz. It's a hugely atmospheric affair from start to finish, with bubbly drum machine grooves and Afro-influenced hand percussion rhythms being overlaid with languid synthesizer melodies, atmospheric chords, distant guitar sounds and aural textures so warming you could probably use them as a duvet. There are naturally nods towards ambient, new age and Steve Reich style minimalism (see "I Forgot The Shirts") as well as the occasional operatic vocals and the most Balearic of sounds: fretless bass.
Review: Photonz is the alias of Marco Rodrigues a DJ, producer and driving force of Lisbon's underground scene. For little over a decade now, he's been crafting his own deeply personal style of Portuguese house and techno. As a DJ, Photonz grew a reputation for deep crates and intensely euphoric sets and in 2017, together with Violet (co-founder at his Radio Quantica) and Lisbon's own Rabbit Hole collective, he started the now infamous Mina parties - a monthly, sex-positive, queer and intersectional-feminist techno party aimed at using the dissociative potential of intense raving to create a temporary space of suspension away from patriarchal expectations.
'Nuit' is Photonz's debut album and a simultaneous reference the Egyptian Goddess of the Stars or Night. Marco was really swept away by the concept of 'freedom of form under the night sky', the accepting embrace of Nuit. Ancestral, but also socially advanced and utopian; a deification of the night time. These ideas manifest themselves as eleven songs spread across two LPs that wax and wane like the moon. Photonz channels early techno, Drexciyan rhythms, balearic & atmospheric house; layering sounds, creating moments. All songs have been mastered by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The vinyl comes housed in a royal blue and neon yellow jacket with duality/birth symbolism and trance-hieroglyphs designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a glow-in-the-dark sticker and a postcard with notes
Review: While Seth Horvitz has kept up a steady stream of singles over the last few years, "Hymn To Moisture" is the producer's first solo album as Rrose for nearly four years. It tends towards the alien and unsettling, with the EAUX founder flitting between weirdly metallic-sounding workouts (creepy opener "Mine"), buzzing modular drug-chug ("Bandage"), pulsating percussive techno oddness ("Columns"), ricocheting beat-free electronic soundscapes ("Saliva"), hypnotic throb-jobs ("Dissolve"), surprisingly melodious kosmiche style ambience ("Horizon", drowsy closing cut "Hymn To Moisture") and spaced-out, bass-heavy dub techno (the razor sharp headiness of "Open Cell").
Review: With the exception of Skee Mask and the Zenker brothers, no producer has released more EPs on Ilian Tape than Stenny. For that reason, it would be fair to say that "Upsurge", his first foray into the full-length format, is long overdue. In keeping with the creative opportunities provided by the longer format, the 12-track set is framed as a "journey through the ups and downs", with hazy strolls through ambient, IDM and dub techno sitting side by side with skittish, off-kilter and occasionally dark forays into more club-focused electro, post-jungle and broken techno territory. There are plenty of subtle variations to be found within both broad categories, with Stenny managing to provide a unified front thanks to the pleasingly atmospheric and mood-matching nature of the collected cuts.
