Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

Review: We're always keen for a full-length trip into the fantastic worlds of Gerard Hansen. As Convextion, he's mastered the art of sonic futurism charged with palpable human heart, eliciting the deepest emotional impact from his synths and strapping them to elegant, infectious electro and techno rhythms. That modus operandi continues beautifully on this new transmission for A.r.t.l.e.s.s., replete with vintage sci-fi artwork and four extended cuts stretched out over a side of vinyl each. All the better to sink into, not least on the subtly grooving, Plastikman-esquedepth charge 'Miranda'.

Path Of Tranquility
Review: Rawax's Motor City Edition series is back with more tech from Detroit and this time it is Los Hermanos at the buttons. Gerald Mitchell opens up the 12" with 'Two Feet Up' which brings warm and soul-infused techno vibes and some lush strong stabs. 'Remember Detroit' is a just as deep cut with slick drums and sci-fi melodies rippling throughout the arrangement and then the flipside ups the energy levels with the more twitchy and synapse-firing 'Central Nervous Systems' complete with plenty of busy melodies. Things chill out a little for the closer, 'Path Of Tranquility', which showcases some lush melodies and serene synth strings.

Review: It is exciting to see a new label doing so well in a country that is not traditionally known for techno. Junction Forest is a physical record store in Seoul, South Korea and also a recent home to releasing some great techno sounds. 'Dark Energy' by Inner Lakes is their newest record and comes with four strong late-night romps into classic but updated techno and trance sounds.'H2k' is a hypnotic builder that rides a nasty bassline to a triumphant ending while 'Sundown' is a mysterious traveller that takes you into another realm. On the flip side, the title track is an uptempo track that takes on a more spiritual trance path. Lastly, 'Voo2' is a wicked voyage into darker techno and trance happiness.

Review: Pye Corner Audio shows off his love of acid on the first of two EPs for Emotional Response that drop simultaneously. This first one is his debut on the label and comes with a gorgeous cover that perfectly encapsulates the sounds within. 'Dust Acid' is a sparse cut with dusty drums and meandering basslines that slowly sink you in, then 'Magnetic Acid Two,' which like all of these was recorded live, is another expertly reduced brew of murkiness with plenty of frayed edges and vintage analog sounds. 'Wanna Show U Acid' is a late-night acid dream and 'Magnetic Acid Four' shuts down slightly more bite. Four timeless backroom cuts, make no mistake.

Review: Emotional Response returns with a second volume of its All Trades compilation which is named after its own NTS show. It is just as vast both in terms of style but also the eras it spans with a mix of dub, new wave, slow motion electronics and plenty in between. Tolouse Low Trax kicks off with the filthy dirty and seriously heavy dub glitch of 'Ossia' to provide an early highlight before the likes of Al Wootton get percussive and tribal with 'Altai' and HLM38 channels some African Head Charge on another devastating dub cut. Later on, London's Good Block brings a little more light and sunshine with their lovely 'Strong Relax.'

Review: Italian label Panick Panick! might be best known for carrying releases from the likes of Noha and Elon, but now they're welcoming the mighty Carl Finlow to the fold. There's always an electroid streak to the legendary producer's sound, but he's equally tipped towards the steady thump of 4/4 on this particular outing. That doesn't dilute the imaginative brushstrokes of his immaculate production one jot, best demonstrated on the sparkling 'Count On It' with its rich layers of modulating synth work. Noha offers reinterpretations of both original tracks on the B side, edging in a little more Euro techno functionality without dampening the flamboyant spirit of Finlow's production style.

Review: Two revered dance music institutions come together here as Pye Corner Audio steps up to Emotional Response with his debut EP for the label. What's more, it is a two-parter with the second half also available now. This one from Martin Jenkins finds him making an homage to the acid house he has always loved with opener 'Stegan Acid' starting with slow grocers and foggy moods run through with subtle 303 modulations. 'Magnetic Acid Three' is another deep and stripped-back sound with rumbling drums and bass coloured with soft acid contours and 'Thermionic Acid' gurgles a little more as the icy hi-hats cut through a mutant deep techno swamp. 'Magnetic Acid One' is one final meditation on acidic house depths.

Review: Veteran electrohead and former artist on the Rephlex Records roseter DMX Krew's Ed DMX takes the well-known story by Jorge Luis Borges of The Library of Babel, said to contain all the different languages of the earth. Some deep philosophical thought has gone into the album's concept, but we'll leave that to Ed to explain. Instead, we'll tell you that from beginning to end there's plenty of the kind of trademark 80s synth playfulness in evidence, with a generally more mellow and soundtrack-related rather than frenetic and dancefloor-filling vibe in evidence, even on faster tracks like 'The Combed Thunderclap'. Still, Ed knows what he's doing when it comes to this kind of leftfield electro gear, and it's a rewarding, never boring listen.

Review: Overmono's reimagining of The Streets' classic 'Turn The Page' is a technofied marvel, delivering a pulsating journey that pays homage to the original while carving out its own unique identity. Retaining Mike Skinner's distinctive vocals and UKG essence, Overmono infuses the track with a darker, more relentless energy. The bassline is pronounced, driving the groove forward with unwavering intensity, while tempo shifts add an ecstatic dimension to the experience. The result is a captivating blend of nostalgia and innovation, perfectly suited for dancefloors craving a modern twist on a beloved anthem.

Review: Fresh off his amazing remixes of classic Juan Atkins material, Santiago Salazar is quickly becoming one of thee names in techno on the west coast of America. His latest 12" 'Dynamic Allocation EP', has found its way to have a home on the top-notch Detroit label, Limited Network. The unique title track perfectly blurs the lines between techno and electro brilliantly while 'Cache Memory' succeeds in a classy retro way. For the second side, 'Accumulator' kicks things up a notch with some hi-tech electro business for the dancefloor. Things close out in great fashion on 'Data Hierarchy' which is one of our favorites on this release. Looking for a different take on Detroit styled techno? You found it here in spades.

Review: The Future Sound Of Sardinia follow hot on the heels of London, fixing yet one more cog to their prospective time machine with a new V/A compilation. 'Centuconcas' welcomes one contribution each from Claudio PRC, Agi Thoriu, Andrea Ferlin, and Jarpp. Each artist is caught exercising a deeper-into-their-own-pysches dub flavour than usual; PRC's sonic epigraph 'Uraki' is an impressive demonstration, unconsciously driving its sticky chording ricochets unto semi-conscious ears; Thoriu's 'Aressi' follows up with a neat fusion, yielding something between ambient future garage and a deep tribal entrainment; Ferlin's 'Hydra' is far more muted and operational in mood, veering more on lo-fi tech; and to close, Jarpp summons his inner MPC for 'Su Passu Turrau', taking its namesake from a traditional Italian line dance (but in actuality, the track sounds like nothing of the sort, unless we entertain the idea that this is the soundtrack to a line dance beamed in from the future...)

Review: Bristol's cultured Innate label is back with a first outing of the year and it returns to their various artists format with a mix of talents all making their mark. UK veteran Tom Churchill opens up with 'Unknown Unknowns (Edit)', which brings plenty of fuzzy and lo-fi aesthetic to jacked up drums and spaced-out pads. Rai Scott then shows her class with 'Suasion' that sinks down deep into immersive drums and is subtly lit up with simmering strings. Innate co-founders Owain K and Gilbert then hook-up under their brand new alias Curved Space and showcase their love of electro with 'Reverie,' a dreamy cut that glows with nice celestial melodies and will have dance floors in a zoned-out state. Last of all it's Lisbon mainstay Jorge Caiado who debuts with the chord-laced 'Floating Without Lifting,' a sophisticated and serene jazz-techno cut that takes you to the stars.

Commuting Part 1 opens with the quick-stepping and deep dub techno rhythms of 'Octave Echoes' which is delightfully fluid. 'Stable Velocity' then bids up impossible smooth dub loops and watery pads into something buoyant and stirring both physically and emotionally, and 'Self Assessment' then ups the pace with thudding, infectious kicks and plenty of rippling synth details. 'Highway Hypnosis takes a more paranoid and stripped-back approach and closes out Conforce's finest EP in some time.

This 12" features 90s EP, The Four Seasons, with two mixes of the title cut. Review: Emmanuel Top's Attack Records epitomises the zenith of 1990s techno-acid brilliance. The French maestro sculpted a sonic landscape that remains as fresh today as it was decades ago. Tracks like 'Turkish Bazar' and the enigmatic 'Acid Phase,' with its heavy acid bleeps, stand tall among the era's techno elite, exuding a trancey, main stage allure. Now, after thirty years, these seminal tracks return to vinyl in a meticulously crafted 5 x 12" box set. Remastered with care, each track receives its own vinyl side, allowing for an immersive sonic experience that DJs and audiophiles will relish. This collection is not merely a nostalgic trip down memory lane but a testament to Emmanuel Top's enduring influence on electronic music. Tracks like the aptly named 'Climax V 13' do heavy damage on dancefloors worldwide. For fans of 90s techno and those seeking a glimpse into its pulsating heartbeat, this box set is a treasure trove. Emmanuel Top's legacy shines brightly, encapsulating the essence of a genre-defining era, while propelling it into the future for new generations to discover and appreciate.

Review: Abe Duque's What Happened? EP, originally released in 2004, remains a timeless gem that played a pivotal role in igniting the resurgence of interest in acid house and jackin' styles. With expertly crafted homages to legendary tracks like Adonis's 'No Way Back,' Duque injects a modern twist by adding infectious party vocals, resulting in an irresistible formula that set dance floors ablaze then and continues to do so now. The EP's title track, 'What Happened?' epitomizes the essence of this revival, with its pulsating beats and hypnotic acid lines that transport listeners to the heart of the underground rave scene. On the flip side, 'Disco Nights' delivers funky grooves that evoke the spirit of classic disco, while 'Acid' pays homage to the genre's origins with its infectious acid house vibes. What else can you say? A stone cold classic.

Label owner Max Watts presents the title track on the A-side. This is pure Detroit goodness with keys that remind us of classic Derrick May tracks. Harnessing the post-apocalyptic to the tee, this is sure to garner lots of praise from veterans and the young alike. For the B-side, Max brings in fellow Detroit producer Huey Mnemonic for a strong collaboration on the stylish 'Echoes of Change'. Then closing things out, Huey adds a high energy funk remix to that same offering. Both are tracky and upbeat gems that remind us of works by Steve Rachmad. Throwing around comparisons like that is not something we do lightly. These have all the makings of a classic!

Review: Steve Pickton, under his revered Stasis alias, delves into the archives for De:tuned's latest LP, Time Sensitive: Unreleased Sounds From The Otherworld Archives. Spanning 1992 to 1996, these tracks offer a glimpse into the peak of Pickton's early Stasis era. From the eerie Detroit-inspired alien acid of tracks like 'Crystal Plateaux' and 'Revealed To None' to the punchy rhythms of 'So-Lar (Alt Version),' each composition unveils unheard treasures from Pickton's vault. The compilation also features 'A Face At The Door' by Paul W. Teebrooke, adding to the intrigue of the collection. Overall, it's a masterclass in emotive techno, showcasing Pickton's innovative sound and standing as a must-have for any dedicated techno enthusiast. With Time Sensitive, Stasis proves once again why he's a true pioneer in the realm of electronic music.

Review: For their latest trick, the Rawax crew has taken a deep dive into the back catalogue of Roman Flugel and Jorn Elling Wuttke's work as Acid Jesus - the project with which they made their name before morphing into Alter Ego. Lead cut 'Radium' dates from 1995 and wraps alien electro sonics, proto-minimal techno motifs and pots and pans percussion around a deep bassline and hypnotic machine drums. The pair's passion for heads-down hypnotism and metallic noises is further explored on the superb 'Uranium Smuggle' (which originally appeared on the flip-side of 'Radium'), while 'Hibernation Drive' is a punchy and evocative electro number first released in 1997.

Review: Vertigo is the third part of a reissue series on Parter that focuses on the work of Chris Simmonds and Ron Wells. These two made just nine Eps back between 1990 and 1997 but very much hit a perfect sweet spot between house, garage and techno when they did. Now newly remastered for this series, they have never sounded better. This 12" was originally from 1995 on Bomba Records and features the title cut spread across two sides and two parts. Side A is a bumping house cut with thumping bass and nice frayed edges as the serene synths are smeared all about the mix. Part 2 is a continuation of this most fine and full-bodied but deep house sound.

Review: Man/igance is the new alternate name for French producer Man/ipulate (Vincent Welwert). The Uprising EP provides four terrific examples of timeless techno music. The EP starts with the Belic & Mani remix of 'Revolution', which is a pulsating techno and electro track that ties in nostalgic 90s sounds along focusing heavily on being a prime slot dancefloor track. Also, on the first side is 'Fight Night', which is a classic Belgian influenced material featuring plenty of strong keyboard stabs and an addictive groove. For the B-side, you have the futuristic and classy 'The Falling' and 'Third Saturn Moon' who both conjure up some dramatic post Italo vibes along with some early strong trance and new beat vibes. Hand it to the French label Lumbago for continuing to release such great retro tracks.

'Nope' opens up as a perfect dub techno exploration with driving 808 kicks and synth swirls that paint cosmic colours in the space above. Ras Lys' vocal adds a hint of dread while the B-side cut 'Abbadia' is stripped right back to the bare bones and still makes a mark. The pads are distorted as the shimmer above the rhythm and lock you into a mindful state. This one has been limited to just 800 copies so do not sleep.

This marks the first time that assured and hardcore deep house heads Dungeon Meat and SlapFunk Records have come together and it is the result of Meat man Brawther hosting a comp on his Patreon channel for aspiring producers to try and impress. From the many entries he received, the four best are served up here starting with Ibiza-based A.M. Project whose 'Flippin' Kicks' has heavyweight kicks and plunging bass. UK-based ADMNTi & Jack Ling offer the quick tech funk of 'Meat Slap', Russia's Fanick brings a trippy breakbeat vibe with 'Watch Me' and Canada's Modal Logic offers 'Space and Science Center', a nice loopy and low-slung banger to close.

Never one to just drop a single tune, this year he has several albums on the way off the back of his superb re-imagining of the KLF's cult 'What Time Is Love?' and this Portals Box Set Project is one of them. It is a multi-part collection that "uses today's modern technology to bring you the sound of tomorrow" and each limited edition 12" comes with its own custom artwork by Nic Hamilton. As you should expect, these are all utterly monstrous bangers and this first part has the high-pressure techno bounce of 'Hectic' and 'Pure Potential' to welcome you to the Portal.

Review: Pressure Traxx secures the sounds of acclaimed minimal master and Romanian mainstay Dan Andrei on this fine new 12", Clockworks. The title track opens up and is coarse and rich in texture, with slapping hits taking centre stage while languid guitars slowly garner your attention. 'Theme For What' is another unusual one, this time with trippy melodies and tumbling drum loops, while 'Geek Groove Odyssey' layers up pulsing bass and bleeping sonar synths into a serene cosmic trip. 'Out Of Mood' is another tense tech cut with edgy synths keeping you in suspense as the dark drums march on.

Following on from the Metaflora compilation and releases from kindred souls Sideral and Dyzen, they come through with a powerful single-sided single in collaboration with TSHA and Nimmo which has one eye squarely on the charts. It's an epic, vocal-led techno cut charged with emotive synths that will sound absolutely massive on big stages when festival season rolls around.

The music will still come with his trademark infusion of tribalism and rituals and the first volume features four brand new cuts that "merge subtle darkness and evolving alien textures with strong grooves." 'Akureh' kicks off its menacing low ends and warped bass that never lets up, 'Quake' suspends you amongst fluttering snares and drawn out whistles over linear beats and 'Liquefaction then gets more gritty with dirty loops and plenty of tension before 'Swarms' shuts down with a more thumping deep techno sound.

They've enlisted remixes of tracks from their Sorry We Did Something Wrong album which first landed back in 2021 as a self-released project, which won over many fans with a sound that went way beyond the club and now gets repurposed for the dancefloor with extended and club versions. The Horsemen Of Housing & Commercial Services rework of 'Che Che' is a dark disco classic, Smaghhe & Cross rework 'Rounded With A Sleep' into something taught and trippy and INigo Vontier layers in plenty of darkness, grit and grime to his take on 'I Must Not Fear'.

DDrhode & Sohrab are behind this one and it opens with the airy percussive pattern and suspensory loops of deep and deft jam 'Ghoroob' (Kryptic Rhythm) which becomes dusty downbeat and late-night jaunt when served up as the 'Haleeteh?' version. Originally a two-hour self-produced mix, the album emerged from the depths of obscurity to impress listeners with its purity and raw emotion. ASIP's curation of 19 unreleased tracks from the original mix brings forth a journey through deep techno, trance and downtempo realms, from the ambient landscapes of 'Sky Textures' to the electro-infused vibes of 'Primal Age', guiding one through moments of euphoria and introspection. Sun & Smoke stands as a testament to the transformative power of music, where tracks once hidden in the shadows now shine brightly as individual gems in a cohesive collection. As an album, it embodies the essence of discovery and the beauty of unexpected journeys in sound, as ASIP continues to bring some of the best music to the rest of the community.

Review: The most recent release by Primary [colours] is one of the most exciting dub techno records we've heard this year so far. The label calls upon the talented Scottish artist Stillhead along with a little remix help from friends Mike Schommer and Echo Inspectors. Like the name would suggest, 'Hibernate', is stark and brisk, with layered deepness between the field recording background and the subsequent techno that arises from the cold. The result is a hypnotizing trek into the unsure and ominous. 'Roll Dub' on the opposite hand is steeped in traditional dub elements and certainly warms things up with some respect to the island. On the second side, Deepchord legend Mike Schommer creates a more straightforward and melodic version that sneaks up on you with an underlying energy. Echo Inspectors add their own unique view of the track and reimagine it as a more ambient dub expression. As an added addition, 'Iden' rounds the EP out with a dense chord progression that floats underneath a gentle downtempo track. This EP gives every dub techno fan something to like.

'Unseen' opens ups with a gurgling blend of bas, synths and indecipherable voices that sound futuristic and otherworldly. 'Submerged' is a deep, swampy, dark brew of languid basslines and creepy pads that have you looking over your shoulder and 'Transition' then brings light with some more bright pads and an upbeat but dubbed out mid-tempo rhythm. 'Voices' is the final piece of this most singular techno puzzle and is a lithe dub with whispered voices pacing about up top to paranoid effect.

Queer On Acid & Hard Ton - "Insane"
Review: Acid Avengers mark their 30th release with a celebration of the electro duo. Here they invite three to-die-for dyads - Posthuman, Queer On Acid and Hard Ton - for a five-track set of crunching electro, techno and acid house, all gathered together under the visual banner of a smiley-faced retake of the twins from Kubrick's The Shining. Erring on the more explosive and least restrained, most guttural effusions ejectable from the acid faucet, all three artists' contributions convey a hedonistic set and setting, with kitsch 'acid' robot voices and globular low-end movements coalescing across each mix like huge droplets of lysergic sweat.
