  2. Edward - "Mind Loop" (6:16)
  3. D.Tiffany - "Sun Trip" (7:54)
  4. Henry Hyde - "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim" (6:18)
Review: The ever-charitable Needs project continues apace with another stunning cast of characters offering up their dancefloor creations to help a good cause - the environmentally-focused Cool Earth NGO. On this 12", Eris Drew delivers the uplifting breakbeat celebration of "See You In Snow", while Edward takes things deeper with the tripped out minimal house groove of "Mind Loop". D. Tiffany brings a particularly crafty approach to her own drum funk science on "Sun Trip" and Henry Hyde cools things down with the mellow, new age 2 step stylings of "Every Day's A Good Day For A Swim."

  1. Off Message
  2. Night Nurse

Review: Throughout his lengthy career, Steve O'Sullivan has proved adept at delivering "proper techno" tracks that are a cut above those of his contemporaries. He's at it again here on a pleasingly uncomplicated and on-point three-tracker for Rawax. A-side "Off Message" sets the tone, with O'Sullivan layering deep space chords and gentle intergalactic melodies atop a tough-but-rubbery beat. The sweatier and sleazier "Night Nurse" boasts fizzing, fill-happy drum machine percussion and deep space chords that recall the early years of Detroit techno, while "Porcupine Grove" is a snappy, pitched-up romp rich in crunchy TR-909 beats, faintly foreboding background chords and tight melodic loops.

Review: Head honcho of Thule Records and an originator of the Icelandic techno scene Thor joins forces with Matt Thibideau, one of Canada's finest. The result is a masterfully crafted atmospheric glacial dub techno journey from beginning to the end. Transparent Thoughts EP includes, apart from the original, an astonishing home-brewed remixes by Matt Thibideau's project Altitude and by Thor himself. Altitude mix is deep, and has some serious dub treatment but still packing nice punch for the dance floor. Thor brings his signature sound to his rework; full of heavy dub-techno influences and a mix of techno and deep house beats. Essential for the serious vinyl-jockey. Thule Records is considered by many to be a pioneers in the field of dub-influenced techno music and was a starting point for many of Iceland's most renowned electronic musicians

Eggs EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: ORN 029.
  1. 313151
  2. 44151
  3. 313154
Review: The latest drop on Ornate sees Neil Tolliday's Nail project metamorphose into Sentipede. His illustrious track record in UK house and techno has touched on all kinds of ventures since the DIY days, and now he's presenting something very special indeed for Ornate. The vibe on these tracks is more taut and techy, with "313151" opening proceedings on a bubbling bed of acid before the rubbery monosynth jack of "44151" on the B side. Keeping things locked into this nervy strain of warehouse tackle, "3131154" finishes the record off with some even more audacious 303 lines that will dig right into your synapses and give 'em a twist, in the nicest possible way of course.

Review: Mixing Engineer, DJ and producer Yossi Amoyal is the man behind Sushitech Records. The label turned 15 years old in 2020 and to celebrate this milestone Yossi has compiled Fluere across four discs (plus an extended Part V - Fatum). The compilation shares some of his story through the records that inspired him and continue to do so. The tracks mark more than two decades of buying records. Starting in a time when new music had to be actively sought out and ending with the abundance of new releases available online today. Fluere marks the end of a chapter and is a very personal collection featuring forgotten tracks remastered for today next to exclusive and unreleased music. As the name Fluere would suggest, the tracks it contains are the glue that hold a set together. They are special, hypnotic, mood setters from artists who specialise in subtlety, from Two Lone Swordsmen and Baby Ford to Steve O Sullivan and Mathew Jonson. Each part of the compilation tells its own story, both through the music on offer and with an exclusive insert written by Yossi himself. The tracks themselves represent over three decades of moving dance floors. Starting with Mark Broom's Gira first released in 1995 and right up to Brawther's Serpent, produced in 2020, Fluere creates its own unique journey through this period of dance music history.

  1. Obelisk
  2. 1m Pendulum

Review: The brothers OdD return to their self titled label after a two year hiatus with more of that refined, off-centre minimalism they do so well. "Obelisk" is an epic scraping the 12 minute mark with a tapestry of intricate beat design and spacious atmospherics - one to take the dancefloor to some intriguing places deep into the morning. "1M Pendulum" has a more linear house groove, and a plethora of subtle tweaks and wobbles rumbling away in the lower register. "Hotep" closes the B side with a spaced out groover that teeters on the edge of ambient, albeit with a nagging house groove holding everything together.

Review: Casey's musical career spans over three decades having taken up producing in 1989 after a love affair with Acid House. He made his vinyl debut in 1990 with fellow city band, Shades of Rhythm (recording under the name Frenzied Bass) on a limited-edition release called The Fenland Bass EP. In 1991 Casey was signed to Richie Hawtin's Plus 8 records in Canada, where between 1991 and 1995 he released several singles under the names 0733 and VFT.In 1995 Casey set up his own label, Fine Balance Records, where he released a couple of limited edition melodic Techno EP's under his own name. He has also been releasing on the well acclaimed label "For Those That Knoe".

The Vast Profound on remix duties is Wil Russell (of duo Pop Out And Play), who writes melodic deep house and techno. Wil's previous releases are on labels Alola, Lucky Sun, Opilec, Visitor, Audiophile etc.

Review: Constant Sound welcome a true stalwart of underground UK house and techno, the one and only 100HZ. Lee Renacre has been delivering distinctive club tracks with an ear-snagging kink since the early '90s, and he's sounding as inspired as ever on this new release. "Jive" skips and swings with urgency, but the synths soar like the loftiest Motor City anthems. "Honkey (Crazy Hats)" is a more obscure affair that uses subtle inflections of rhythm and texture to create an immersive trip anchored to a steady kick. "Ochos" is a dreamier cut that places the emphasis on melody and atmospherics rather than straight up beats, creating a beautiful slice of machine soul in the process.

Hypnotic rhythm that can be easily compared to Maurizio and other timeless classics. Delano Smith and XDB with two excellent remixes on the B side. Review: Starting their 2020 with a bang, OdD swiftly follow up their D Construction EP with another trio of reductionist sure shots for adventurous travelers in the minimal realm. "Pythagorean" lives up to its name with an intricately arranged pattern of percussive threads creating a kind of geometry that crystalises around a sturdy minimal groove. "Do Re Me" features plenty of tripped out FX sweeps and swishy pads that give this roller a dubbed out flavour perfect for the after hours. "Solfegio" switches things up with a crooked broken beat template and some pointed chord drops that really lift the track into an intriguing new realm - this is classy minimal with personality so don't sleep on it!

Review: Following on from a sell-out first release, Serenity Records returns with a four track double-header from Thoma Bulwer & Anna Wall. In alignment with the label's policy of allowing the artists commissioned to choose a mental-health charity of their choice, 002 dedicates all its proceeds to Centrepoint - an organisation which seeks to combat the ever-growing problem of homelessness. The EP spans across the full spectrum of Techno, with the cuts varying from soft melodic textures, floaty synth work and a B1 that wouldn't stand at all out of place in a peak-time club setting - a nice surprise from this exciting new not-for-profit label...

Review: We kick start the return of Wigflex records with a brand new release from first time flexer and Nottingham's biggest blades fan... Son of Philip.

Inspired by the story of how Cans drummer Jaki Liebezeit was once told to "play monotonous" during the LSD-induced ramblings of a fan; and the experimentation into repetition which followed.

We first heard Rubber Stamp during a wonky walk around Dam in the early hours of the morning, it made perfect sense then and still makes perfect sense now.

King of hazy, crystallised electronics Actress steps things up a notch and takes the ep away from a Hoffman-esque bicycle ride and onto the dance floor.

  1. SNAD - "Jargon"
  2. SNAD - "Urban Decay"
  3. Jackson Lee - "Syntax Error"
  4. Jackson Lee - "Clouds Of Xeen"
Review: Deep Club launches another split-12" consisting of two unlikely pairings. Berlin via Chicago's Snad leads the A-side. After co-founding Gandu Records in Chicago he jumped across the pond, where his output increased quickly for the likes of Minibar and Smallville while contributing to US favorites Kimochi and TerraFirm. On Jargon / Syntax Error, "Jargon" encompasses his signature style of deep, minimal, swinging house. The track builds over almost eight minutes with a massive rolling baseline and sporadic synth stabs and pads. Mix out too early and you miss the point. "Urban Decay" is a bass massage that hits only on the right sound system or headphones. Jackson Lee takes side B in a different direction while still exploring themes around deep and minimal. The mysterious NYC via Memphis techno producer boasts an impressive catalog on his Mystical Disco imprint, as well as collaborations with Ben Jenkins, R Gamble and Grey People. "Syntax Error" is an extended techno bomb with a massive kickdrum that will leave dancefloors sizzling. The eerie effects crawling in and out of the texture and sharp hats combine with the low end for a masterclass in deep techno. "Clouds of Xeen" brings the energy down with distortion, wispy pads, and glistening layers, making it a great choice for 6 AM sleaze.
