Prince Alla - Jah Give I Love
12"
$13.62
Originally recorded in 1981 but first issued on 12" in 1981, Prince Alla's "Jah Give I Love" remains one of the most potent roots reggae club cuts of the disco era. This Tuff Scout reissue wisely offers up the full extended mix rather than the radio edit, and that's a wise move: while Alla's vocals and the sweet song itself are superb, it's the dancefloor dub style production and weighty groove showcased in the second half of the ten-minute track that really pushes it towards "classic" status. Over on the flip you'll find the similarly lengthy "Jerusalem"; this, too, progresses from a quietly soulful roots reggae number into a dubbed-out dancefloor heater over the course of eight essential minutes.

Tnt Roots - Elohim
12"
$13.62
For their latest release, Jah Fingers has dipped into the digital catalogue of long-running Abi Shanti and Iration Steppas favourite TNT Roots. Both tracks showcased here were first featured on the British producer's "Raw Dubplate Warrior Style" CD-R way back in 2010. A-side "Elohim" is a particularly cosmic and spiritual take on digi-dub, with spacey electronic motifs and exotic synth sounds echoing away atop a slow and low bassline and head-nodding drums. Over on the flip, "Verse II" is a heavier and more dubbed-out affair where delay-laden keyboard riffs and similarly sci-fi sounds echo across another killer bassline and hypnotic beat.

Fresh from the release of his tribute to hip-hop culture's dancefloor roots, the essential "Disco Rap" single, DJ Moar returns to familiar territory with a guest-packed album of boom-bap beats, blink-and-you-miss-them skits, and deliciously deep rap songs. Moar's backing tracks ripple with warm and woozy instrumental flourishes and jazzy samples, while the accompanying raps, from MCs including Napoleon Da Legend, Dirt Platoon, Sadat X and LS Brigandes, are on-point and entertaining. Such is the all-round quality, in fact, that it sounds like a long-lost set from hip-hop's golden age.

Vivians / Mndsgn / The Koreatown Oddity - Vivians
LP
$22.36
Since first slipped out as an ultra-limited cassette back in 2015, demand has been high for wider reissue of beat-maker Mndsgn and mic man The Koreatown Oddity's first collaboration as Vivians. Listening to this much-needed vinyl edition, it's easy to see why. With a string of guest MCs and producers lending a hand, the mix-tape style affair delivers a contemporary take on the classic West Coast rap sound, where synth-heavy 80s funk jams are looped and cut up more than jazz records or James Brown breaks. It's not quite G-funk, but there are enough nods towards it to suggest that it was in the two Los Angeles' artists thoughts when they created the album. Either way, it's a gem of an album.

Since making his mark in the dub techno scene two decades ago, Fluxion has slowly shifted his sound to incorporate a wider range of interconnected influences and inspirations. So, while "Perspectives", his eighth album, has the hazy, half-light pulse of dub techno at its heart, the rhythms are a little bolder, the accompanying electronics more colourful, the melodies jazzier, and the variety of tracks a little wider. As a result, it's one of his most entertaining and mood-enhancing albums yet, with highlights including the rainbow of interconnected melodies and dub-flecked throb of "Formation", the warming late night shuffle of "Glimpses", the piano-sporting haziness of "Down The Line" and the jazzy ambient techno bliss of "Promise".

Camarao Orkestra - Nacao Africa
CD
$14.38
Eagle eyed diggers might have spotted Camarao Orkestra's excellent Nacao Africa 12" single dropping last year on Favorite Recordings. Now the promise of that single has been followed up with this wonderful album - a scintillating blend of Latin jazz, funk, samba, Afrobeat and much more besides. The playing is second to none, not least the gorgeous Rhodes on "Dia De Verao", and the energy pivots nimbly across these seven tracks to make for a varied but cohesive listen. Uptempo "Guerreiro Yoruba" is an infectious stomper, while "Copacabana" captures a cool 70s funk vibe that wouldn't sound out of place on a Rufus & Chaka Khan record. With the title track bringing the perfect laid back party flavour too, there's a lot to savour on this album, not least while the sun is shining.
