Review: Long time tech titan Nick Curly is back on Cecille, one of the several labels he has run over his storied career including 8Bit and Trust. His Come Right Back EP finds him head into similar sort of territory that has been his style in the past - it remains deep and loopy and hypnotic right from the off with the title cut layering up swirling pads, nicely stripped back and dusty drums and a hooky, soulful vocal that loops hypnotically up top. 'Arkum' on the flip is a nice loosely limbed and hip shaking rhythm with percussive details over silvery drums as a bobbling bassline and smart filter use bring subtle dynamics to keep things fresh.

Review: Is there a more fun and hard-to-pin-down label than Studio Barnhus? The plaything of Swedish artists Kornel Kovacs, Axel Boman and their mate Petter Nordkvist it has done it all from trancehall to bubblegum house via pop edits and plenty in between. Now they look to Stockholm boys Ari Bald & CJ Scott once more for a new EP that bangs hard and has a great sense of character, much like their label debut here last year. Review: Florin Buchel's work as Contra Communem Opinionem has bridged the gap between seemingly disparate labels like Lux Rec, Mathematics, Drumpoet Community and Photic Fields without missing a beat. More recently, he's funnelled the CCO output through his own label Silum to bring us some EPs of dazzling hardware tech house with ample melodic content to keep the dark clouds at bay. 'Atmospheric Inversion' toys with jazzy discord, but the vibe is primarily soulful and synth-driven, while 'Atmospheric Extinction' heads wholeheartedly towards uplifting chord sequences to get your hair standing on end. 'Atmospheric Pressure' takes a snappier, techier approach but the tools and signal chains are the same, so the pervading warmth of the tracks maintains. This is house music which instinctively connects back to the gritty strain of machine soul pioneered in Detroit - if you're always searching for that quality in your club tracks you won't want to overlook this one.

Review: This is the reissue of 2021's of the house music record Basement Grooves Volume 1 by Call Eden. After the first run of copies, the demand continued to slowly build as many couldn't resist wanting a copy of this excellent EP. All four pieces offer something special for that late night house music lover. Fans of labels like Nu Groove, Strictly Rhythm and the like will surely gravitate to gems like the beautiful 'La Riviera' and the Wild Pitch sound of 'Frome'. The B-sides are not just fillers either. We really like the groove on 'Gum' especially. This version comes on red vinyl to differentiate itself from the first edition.

Review: Chicago's utmost finest Daniel Chavez brings his four latest house cuts to the East Coast via Brooklyn's Deep Club label. The 'Seasons' EP harks back to Chavez' formative days as a prime pusher in the former city's golden era of deep and dubby house, which initially began with him cycling around its South Side with a bag full of records and a small PA system strapped to his back. This bright spark of autonomy and intuition led to residencies at Smartbar and Gramaphone, which went hand-in-hand with a budding production career, which would soon blossom into a master-craftsmanship behind the controls. Now well into said career, these tracks were designed and refined over the course of a year to meet the strict specifications of his trusty Jewel soundsystem. All knocky smokers of top clarity, fidget and depth - a hard balance to strike.

Review: Groovin Italy landed a monumental reissue for the label with C'hantal's 'The Realm'. Originally released way back in 1990 on the dance and early Brooklyn based Powertraxx records. Staying true to the original release, it offers the 'Love In D Minor' mix but does one better in tucking in the Acapella version to the A-side so the B-side 2 versions have a little more room to breathe. The added bonus has to be putting on the more rare "Wild Club mix' to the party along with the original 'Rave Mix'. All and all, a very packed reissue of some of the best versions of the track, all on one record. This might just hold the number one spot for best techno reissue so far of 2024.

Review: A two-track 12" with fresh artwork and a nice heavyweight pressing, with one side taken by each artist. Sy Sez kicks off 'Change The System' with dub-wise vocals which then make way for a tight, taught, bouncing house groove with fat bass. Things are utterly different on the flip with Leeds legend and sometime Nightmares on Wax collaborator offering the deep house delights of 'Knights' with its soulful vocal whispers, intimate late night chords and warm, candle-lit vibes.

Evolving his sound since his last outing, here the UK producer crafts a cosmic four-track record that explores diverse territories with refined house textures. Review: The third vinyl release of the year from Blur Records sees three distinguished producers - ColorJaxx, T.Markakis and Manuel Kane - sharing duties, each delivering a track each but with the distinctive, music-centred 'deep house fusion' flavour of the Blur label very much at their heart. ColorJaxx's 'I Know You' kicks off proceedings in upbeat mood, goaded along by a skippy garage beat, some beautiful piano work and arresting male vocals. 'Ain't Like That' by T.Markakis rolls slower and deeper, clouds of warm synth giving it a reassuring, dub feel, while Manuel Kane's 'Funk' boasts a cheery, end-of-evening sparkle with its hypnotic vocal samples and gentle sirens. Review: This beautiful EP, 'Sunset Thoughts', finally makes its way to vinyl after a digital release back in October. Cosmonection is a fast-rising Frenchman who makes an awful lot of music and is sure to blow up fully in 2024, and for this one, he works with fellow French artists and singer Soren Lyann. 'Bulles' establishes a lovely vibe with its organic chords and colourful little samples over a slick groove, then '"Wakin' Up With You' brings acoustic guitar and indie vocals over a hurried house groove. There is plenty more sun and subtle hints of acoustic guitar in 'Solar' and 'Ballad' shuts down another mix of acoustic strings, ad-libbed vocals and fresh beats.

Review: Costin RP is, to us at least, one of the newer names to emerged from the ever fruitful Romanian scene. Of course he makes minimal for the late night hours, but his own take on it has a little sense of fun and playfulness as evidenced by this new EP on BPLR. 'About Us opens up with a drunken sense of off-balance rhythm and shiny synth leads that never stop evolving. Sit then remixes and brings more defined drum funk to his version while 'Bad Waters' shuts down with some raved-up synth stabs and tripped lines that rise up and down through the mix in nice loose fashion.

Review: Shockingly, it's been almost three years since we last heard new material from Chaos in the CBD aka London-based Kiwi brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales. This two-tracker is not only well overdue, but also as quietly impressive as you'd expect. Title track and A-side 'Sirena Deep' lives up to its name, offering a subtly summery shuffle through lightly dubbed-out, organ-rich deep house goodness complete with an expressive and tasteful flute solo from fellow New Zealander Nathan Haines. Those looking for a more driving, sub-heavy and late-night focused workout will love flip side 'Outdoor Limit', where creepy, ghostly chords and textures ride tough house beats and a deep, dubby bassline.

Review: Spanish label MATE host a four track, two artist 12" that stretches across the Atlantic to take in top house music talents from both sides. The Belgian duo Chasse follow their releases on Robsoul and Exploited take on the A-side, with 'Viola' proving a chunky but emotive offering held together by rhythmic sax stabs and suspended strings and 'Deep Link' a jazzier affair, the sax let properly loose as a plaintive piano loops atmospherically. The prolific Detroit producer Javonntte, a regular on the label, offers up the fantastic Moog improv wigout of 'Sunday Brunch Cocktail', registering some impressively original high frequency operations. 'When Music Feels' boasts a spoken word vocal from Javonntte's own sister and a more classic deep house sound with an uplifting, spiritual vibe. Maximum value for money via four very playable tunes.

Review: Sao Paulo artist and About Disco label head Rafael Cancian once played Motor City Wine party in its native Detroit and was thought to hail from the city itself so synonymous was his sound with what the locals expected. As such he now steps up to Hot Pot with a new pair of edits starting with 'Heaven.' It's a fulsome cosmic disco stepper with low sling drums and plenty of shiny synths as well as soothing vocal coos that help take you to ecstasy. Flip it over and you will find 'Nigeriac' which is a syncopated mix of Afro funk and rock to shake your bones loose.

Review: The unstoppable and always innovative Derek Carr returns with a new outing on Trident that is as potent as thew UK's weapon defensive system of the same name. Review: Savor Music is fast approaching its quarter century but just ahead of that milestone comes another timeless EP from Alexis Cabrera. Everything from Chicago jack to Detroit soul is referenced in these well-crafted and club-ready cuts, starting with the cosmic cruise that is 'Funkhouser'. 'The Next Tomorrow' throws it back to the 80s in its bright synth chords and 'Guitars On The 5th Cloud' sinks into a nice deep and heady mood with its melancholic bassline and skittish synth-guitar sequences panning about the mix over a soft acid gurgle. 'Don't Give Yourself Away' brings a touch of silky electro rhythm though a menacing bassline keeps things firmly rooted on the floor.

Review: Tyree Cooper is the man who will forever be synonymous with hip house - a sound he pioneered and that no one has ever basically bettered, even though we feel there sure is scope for more people to try and add something to the short-lived sound. Here he classic Future Reecoopd EP gets reissued by Chicago Vinyl and it is a raw and ghetto-fried outing with bumping analogue drums and chopped up vocal fragments. 'Gimme A Break' is a standout with its fizzing and distorted energy and 'Git Phreaky' rides a nice low slung sound with booming kicks.

Review: After he made such an impact with his debut EP in 2018, Compton-based hip-house hero Channel Tres made good on his burgeoning reputation with his second release the year after. Black Moses might nod to Isaac Hayes, but there's nothing throwback about the sound as Tres rides all kinds of sparkling fresh electronic beats with a focus on deep house. He was also able to confirm his burgeoning reputation in the scene with a notable guest spot from JPEGMAFIA on the low slung title track. Review: Compton's own Channel Tres has been making waves since he first popped up in 2018, signing to majors and dropping some heavyweight collabs with the likes of SG Lewis, Robyn and Emotional Oranges. It's a good opportunity to track back then to his first records, being reissued by his regular stomping ground of Godmode. Review: It's Time to Play says this new Italian label, and when you hear what they have put together on their first EP to entice you to do so you will be happy to get involved. It's a classy deep house outing from the off with Meftah's 'Recognizing Strength In Healing' exploring subtle sound worlds with muted chords and gentle finger clicks. Colosimo's 'It Works' (feat Alessandro Barbieri) has dancing synths and deep and dusty drums overlaid with jazzy chord work and Phonorem keeps the late-night jazz houde vibes coming with 'Hyper Dino' (feat Stefano Nardon). Two more B-side cuts round out with more classy and sophisticated house depths.

Review: It is now 13 releases deep and each and every time a new one arrives, Private Recording System's music sells out. This one comes from returning label regular, 2 Bit Crew member and Safe Radio associate CK who again cooks up a future fusion of house, tech and minimal. 'Speedstick' is first out of the blocks and is an intergalactic tech trip with hurried drums and silvery hi-hats and snares riding the beats. '99 Basstones' then gets more tribal and stripped back with compelling kicks and bass bringing plenty of bounce and 'Faker' shuts down on something of a funky, loopy techno tip.

Review: Native Soul Recordings has been around a long old time in dance music terms and now it looks back over some of its finest works with this first in a new series of Best Of comps. Music writer Harold Heath is first up with 'Slipstream,' an effortless smooth late-night house cut with introspective chords and silky pads bringing real depth. The Candy Dealers get more lithe and elastic with the spraying bass and jumbled percussive house of 'Train Of Thought' and last of all, Asad Rizvi remixes Jevne's 'Moderize' with a funky little bassline and chord vamps that keep you on edge. A tasteful package of timeless house grooves.

There's not much information floating around about the identity of the act or their inspirations, though we can tell from the sound of the two tracks here that they enjoy fusing vintage and contemporary electronics with live instrumentation and nods to various musical styles. On A-side 'Boudoir', they join the dots between the far-sighted late '70s electro-disco of Giorgio Moroder and Rinder & Lewis, with the live instrumentation of Balearic nu-disco. Turn to the flip for 'Moser', a gently sun-splashed fusion of deep house sunniness and locked-in nu-disco rich in sustained organ chords, funky guitar licks, immersive pads and subtlyLatin-tinged beats.

Review: Less so an 'artist' and more the recorded memory of a late night radio show, the Collective Rhythm Network was the late 1990s brainchild of Geoff Adamson and Marc-Andrew Bird, hijacking the 103.7 FM airwave in St. Catherines, Canada. After gaining some local traction, Adamson and Bird did indeed continue the name as their own production and DJ alias, going on to play at many a party - and recently, to establish an eponymous record label. The 'Monday Night' series charts some of their favourite cuts to play on the radio and deploy behind the booth on a monday; this incarnation hears swelling, airy numbers from DJ Slugo, Chris Shivers and Infiltrate. Don't sleep.

Review: Ninja Tune favourite and sometime lo-fi house pin-up DJ Seinfeld continues to prove he was always about so much more with a new collab alongside Confidence Man that he describes as "quirky, naive and an ode to all the summer flings out there". It came about after the pair hung out a few times and enjoyed each other's company and the tun itself has already been something of a mini classic during festival season. As well as the original with its catchy drum loops, pop leaning vocal hooks and lush strings, there is a cheeky UK garage version that has even more irresistible bump and a Carlita remix that reworks into something different but equally essential.
