Review: Lol Hammond is a former member of Spiral Tribe and early live techno act The Drum Club who now makes music on his own as Wah Wah Planet. Back in 1990 is when he penned this fantastic five track Balearic house EP alongside Russell Crone and with female vocal contributions from Lucy Sian. It very much lay out an early blueprint for UK street soul and the opener on the A-side 'Jewel' explores a romantic theme with hooky pop lyrics. Things get more left of centre on the 'Love FXU' with three trips into a smoother sound world perfect for sun kissed island dancing and with influences ranging from early breakbeat and trip hop to elements of dancehall music.

Review: Joe Babylon's cultured US label Roundabout Sounds has never rushed music out but when it does serve up new material it is always timeless and top quality. This latest EP is the first installment in the new All Hands series and it features some real house heavyweights. Frits Wentink kicks off with the mystic and lo-fi depths of 'Jellyfish, then DJ Aakmael layers up his soft edge chords and cuddly kicks drums with some muted horn motifs that bring the romance. The label head brings some upright drums and spoken word lyrics for a beautifully warm sound and last of all Detroit royalty Rick Wilhite links with Jon Easley for a final blissed-out and breezy deep house day dream.

Review: The Take It Easy label returns with a red hot one and limited edition one-sided 12" that features a Bugsy 'ReDrum' of Wema's 'Kiherehere' cut. The original artists are a five-piece Tanzanian outfit founded on community and they have a global approach to sound that plays out here. In Bugsy's hands, it becomes a club-ready cut that fuses house and techno with the original's traditional Tanzanian instrumentals and Afro-Latin rhythms. Add in a fiery vocal and the sort of unrelenting drum funk that sends crowds mad and you have another standout from this fledgling label.

Review: A follow-up to last year's successful compilation 'Faith Presents: Ain't That A Groove', is given to us by the London-based label Faith ran by DJs Terry Farley, Stuart Patterson and Dave Jarvis. The high energy house party sound kicks off with Nolan who features the legendary house voice of Sir. Robert Owens. Hilit Kolet isn't shy with the extended remix of 'POV Siren'. This sound is synonymous with Feller and Heller DJ sets of the mid 90s. Philippa's extended remix of 'The Night' by Roach Motel backs that one up with another prime floor filler with hardly any let up. Lastly, Terry Farley, Wade Teo & Kameelah Waheed brings he deep groover "Dancing After Dark" to the party. These tracks will have you and the nightclub crowd out dancing all night.

The versions on this 12" appeared on that set but have not been released on vinyl before. His re-wire of 1999 cut 'Mystical Rhythm' is little less than sonically gorgeous, subtly updating Watson's classic, Detroit influenced sci-fi techno sound to include all manner of spacey chords, warming organ sounds and jazzy, life-affirming synth solos. His version of 2000's 'Moments in Time' is even deeper and more intergalactic in tone, delivering heart-aching Motor City style machine soul by the boat-load. In a word: stunning.

Dauwd's 'Slam' is stripped back and pulses with acid and Daniel Avery's 'Bell' is languid, melodic and gorgeously serene techno. Review: Philly native Josh Wink is still as relevant as ever, partially because he didn't just spend the decades after his breakout hit 'Higher State of Consciousness' trying to recreate the same thing. He has landed on several well-regarded labels, though mostly on his own 30-year-old Ovum, and here heads to House of eFunk for a new EP that taps into his nostalgic feelings of house from years gone by. Review: Heads High keeps up the good early work with a third interesting offering, this time in the form of a meeting of the fiendish minds of Mike Misiu and Eddie Smilie, aka Wednesday Club. They offer up late-night club sounds with plenty of musical nouse and worldly nuance that comes as a result of late-night sample mining across the African musical landscape. Their tunes are crafted on nice analogue gear so have that lovely freed edge feel and from the space-house of 'Magic Body' to the swaggering dub of 'Magic Dub' via the cosmic expressiveness of cruising groover 'Love & Care'. This one gets dubbed out to close a fine dancefloor adventure.

Review: Wajeed's tasteful Dirt Tech Rack welcomes Church Boy Lou for some more of that authentic house flavour. 'The Night Is Coming' opens up with funky drum loops and twisted metallic synth lines that swerve in and out of the grooves. Review: You can always count on Public Possession to put out quirky, ear-catching gear for switched on dancefloors. On this occasion they've tapped up Wolfram and Josh Ludlow for this tongue-in-cheek acidic stomper which is roundly defined by the robotic narrator demanding we go back and forth to the club ad infinitum. It's cheeky and a tonne of fun, with a deadly 707-toting beat to back it up, presented in snappy edited form on the A-side and stretched out in extended form on the flip. If you want to get the party popping off with a glint in your eye, this is just the record you need.

Review: How cheeky do you want it? The Hedzup crew have been transmitting crafty-as-hell minimal house from Paris to the world for many a year now, and they're not letting up in their quest to inject some freaky fun into the club. This latest drop is another split from label main men Mancini and Wlad, leading in with the former's 'Cure Hater' which bounces into ear shot with an irrepressible groove and plenty of wriggling noises snaking around the mix. Nu Zau then steps up with a remix which tips the ingredients into a tougher, 90s-styled beatdown without losing any of that heads down energy you expect from a Hedzup release. Wlad brings a shimmering sophistication to the chords on 'Lucky Star' without losing that naughty rhythm section, giving Floog plenty to work with for a remix which heads further into techy territory.

Review: Westcoast Goddess is an enigmatic producer who betrays a love of 90s house and tech and golden-era r&b on this fresh new EP for Intrinsic Rhythm. It is a perfect mix of quality electronic production and good-time vibes: the loose, tumbling drums of 'Fallin' come with wispy synths and heart-aching vocal samples. 'Time 4 Change' is more deep and meditative and 'Change Is Comin'' picks up the pace with some snappier drums and snares under a gospel-style vocal chorus. Review: Toolroom sits at the top of the tree when it comes to big room house music. Mark Knight's label has mastered the art of maximal sounds and this eighth volume of the Tooroom Sampler series is another one that will do plenty of damage. Essel's 'Sweat' is a rigid tech cut with stiff synths and libidinous vocals, then Shiba San and Ayarez get direct with shuffling tech house cut 'Twist It' complete with big skewed synths. Friend Within's 'Pilka' keeps the energy levels high with fizzing synth loops over textured drums and a fat bassline. Maur x Westend and Cami Bear close out with some brighter melodies to get hands in the air on 'Over.'

Review: A striking debut EP from Tokyo artist Iori Wakasa; 'Botanica' is a psychedelic house EP unto its own, summoning the environmental/ambisonic ritualisms of his locale, but repackaging them into a thoroughly danceable deep tech aesthetic. It's a fusion sound which is quite rare in other contexts. Wakasa, also a DJ (and now label head) based in Japan, has more recently expanded his repertoire to performances in Indonesia, Vietnam, and South Korea, and we'd wager it's this wealth of experience that has informed on the impeccable sonic synergies of 'The Pure Land' and 'Lunar Down'.

Review: Six years on from his first outing on the imprint, Rick Wade drops his fifth EP for Shall Not Fade. Predictably, it's another beauty, with the long-serving Detroit deep house producer cannily combining electronic and organic instrumentation. Check first A-side 'Vibe Like', where warming Fender Rhodes motifs, rubbery bass guitar and spacey synthesiser doodles ride a restless house groove. Wade opts for a deeper, TB-303 style bassline and more densely layered percussion on the immersive, deep and quietly soulful 'Groove Head', before successfully playing around with sampled loops, subtly hip-hop-influenced house beats and sustained chords on quirky closing cut 'No Bs'.

Review: When it comes to gospel-powered 21st century dance music, Detroit trio Dames Brown have been involved in many of the most memorable records - not least Sophie Lloyd anthem 'Calling Out' and Horse Meat Disco hook-up 'Message To The People'. Here they join forces with fellow Motor City musician Waajeed for another arms-aloft classic in the making. In its original form, 'Glory' blurs the boundaries between gospel disco and gospel house, with the trio's powerful vocals rising rubbery bass guitar, loose-limbed beats and riotous organ licks aplenty. Review: Although best known for promoting new and fast-rising artists, Shall Not Fade has also become a regular home for deep house royalty, not least Rick Wade. Golden Era marks the Detroiter's fifth EP for the Bristol-based imprint, and as usual is full-to-bursting with class-sounding deep house hits. The title track can be found stretched across the A-side, with Wade smothering a deep, squelchy synth bassline and pleasingly swinging deep house drums in gorgeous chords, sun-soaked trumpet sounds, heady synth-strings and languid keyboard solos. Review: Parisian producer Jeff The Fool often leans towards the jazzy deep house sounds his city has long been known for. Here he links with Wilt for a new EP on The Chaud that does just that. 'I Said No' is a heavy house cut steeped in US traditional styles, with a libidinous vocal and fat bassline. 'Body & Soul' is a well swung deep house groove with a carefree attitude and 'Vol 334' has more lively drum programming but still a nice warm, scuffed up and intimate feel. They of course call it e-funk - a nod to their heroes George Clinton's p-funk - and it also provides their label with its name. This second volume of Detroit leaning e-funk is a faultless four tracker. Rick Wilhite's signature lo-fi sounds define 'Cheetah', the vital Ladymonix then brings the party, Soul Clap themselves join up with funk master Amp Fiddler and Jon Dixon completes the quartet with '4ever Searchin.'

Review: Jayson Wynters is one of the UK's more underrated producers. He hails from Birmingham, has mastered Kung Fu and is no slouch in the studio. This outing on Spanish label Pulp - written back during the lockdowns - is one of his best yet - a deep look into the cosmos, with star-gazing synth lines and analogue drum sounds that are frayed around the edges. Misty-eyed chords define many tracks, with the loosely jumbled drums and rasping basslines all interlocking perfectly. 'Corns Funk' has twanging bass riffs that remind of Prince, while 'Night Drive' is a Dam-Funk style late-night street cruise during sunset.

Review: Mitch Wellings is the founder of Space Tours Records and The Sound Kitchen studios and he's been impressing us with his 12"s for a while so we're glad to hear an album from him. This new conceptual release says it was "created to honour the brave passengers on the first ever Space Tours flight." It's a cosmic trip made using "real interview footage" and has some very lovely artwork to help heighten the illusion. The music itself is futurities and melodic tech with wispy electro rhythms and celestial chord sequences. It's an expansive mind movie, a deeply immersive and escapist soundtrack that makes great use of the long-player format while also offering up plenty of great moments for the dance floor. A real triumph.

Review: When it was initially released nine years ago, The Stalwart marked Detroit house legend Rick Wade's first appearance on Rawax offshoot Housewax. Wade's standards are high - he seems incapable of releasing mediocre music - but even then, The Stalwart is extra special. For proof, check out the classic deep house warmth and shuffle of opener 'The Hawk' - all languid electric piano motifs, sturdy drums, spacey stabs and toasty bass - and the marginally funkier and more spacey sounding lusciousness of 'Dream Flute'. Elsewhere, 'Just Want' sees Wade smother a hypnotic, analogue-rich groove in sustained chords, drowsy Rhodes licks and yearning trumpet solos, while 'Proving Ground' achieves a perfect balance between immersive deepness and driving dancefloor energy.

Review: Wisdom Wita Z aka LaShonda Corder hooks up with Dark Entries for a rare Detroit-adroit arsenal of new 90s-style house bangers. 'It's Me' was produced by DJ Maestro and DJ 001, both influential figures in the Detroit techno scene. The B-side, meanwhile, hears a retake from the adjacent DJ Resurgence. An anthem for owning and loving oneself, direct comparisons could be made to the diva vibes of Crystal Waters or CeCe Peniston, but Wita Z brings an entirely new character to the genre, with the production bringing a moodiness to the sound and giving neat contrast to her up-front vocals.

Review: Church co-head Seb Wildblood presents his latest release titled 'Vitara 3000', boasting three masterfully crafted tracks that effortlessly blend a nostalgic sound with broken beats and dreamy melodies. Review: Rhythm Section returns to what they do best: sectioning off the best rhythms and leasing them to a needy house-loving consumer base. Wallace's 'Ripples' cordons off six blossomy, city-slicker house heaters, representing the darker and harder-hitting side of the label. Wallace is known as something of a recluse, but his own Tartan imprint and official releases on the likes of Lobster Theremin and Banoffee Pies have proven this kind of reticence to be irrelevant for success, in hi case. Classic sampledelic house ('Whirl') moves into totally unique future house stompers ('Room 1') and atmospheric rainsoakers ('Shanghai Street') on this limited release, seeming to represent at least two sides of one musical coin.

Review: Todmorden quartet Working Men's Club have long held a soft spot for Sheffield, with much of their music being recorded in the city under the watchful eye of producer Ross Orton. It makes perfect sense, then, that they'd commission an EP full of reworks from Steel City producers. Toddla T kicks things off in fine fashion via a rave-igniting, dancehall-tinged SoYo bass rendition of 'Money Is Mine' tailor-made for the city's Kabal parties, while bleep & bass godfathers Forgemasters deliver a drowsy, atmospheric, post-industrial deep house tweak of 'The Last One'. Review: The newly formed Silum Records' is back with a superb second release that features Zurich collective Wavetest. They have previously released on the likes of Phantom Island and Drumpoet but this might be their best work. It is music inspired by the alpine landscape of the collective's native Liechtenstein but it also has one eye on the dance floor. These are bright, shiny disco-house cuts with happy arps, lush cosmic chords and accessible grooves that simply make you feel good. 'Gritsch' in particular is awash with warm chords and singing leads that will work in a wide variety of settings.

Openers XXXV Edits kick off with the cosmic vibes and expansive melodies of 'Space Bass Rooster' before Lego Edit layers up some old-school soul and funk on 'P-Man.' On the flip is the elastic bass funk of Soulbrigada's 'Hum Bello' with is flabby rhythms and great vocals then closing down is a Wandervogel's 'Mirage,' a Rhodes-laced house groove that is jazzy, lo-fi, soulful and brilliantly warm. It comes from Weiss, a producer who knows how to get a floor in a sweat, and is a loopy, party-starting jam that will be perfect for those festive dances that always have an extra air of celebration. The Jones Girls provide the soulful vocal which is looped over a leggy disco-house beat and low-slung bass. A breakdown brings the filters and teases the return before the drop arrives and the roof gets blown off. Simple but effective.

Review: Almost two years have passed since Detroit deep house man Rick Wade made his bow on Rawax Motor City Edition with the awesome Another Galaxy EP. Happily, we can report that this belated sequel is every bit as alluring as its predecessor. For proof, check A-side 'Delicious', where mazy, mood enhancing electric piano solos, spacey electronics and and woozy, starlight chords stretch out across a bongo-enhanced deep house groove. Wade switches to sci-fi techno/yearning deep house fusion on the equally admirable title track ('Mystic Tech'), before rounding off proceedings via another slab of electric piano-enhanced deep house hedonism ('Nasty Night').

Review: Wajeed maybe doesn't get the credit or attention of many of his Detroit peers, but he surely deserves it. His take on his hometown's house sound pairs gorgeous synths with steely drum work and new one 'Motor City Madness' backs that up. It's got the nice raw drums, the elastic bass and is smothered with synth goodness while incidental sax and trumpet pads bring the romance. A People Mover remix goes heavy on the jazz vibes with a broken beat workout, Underground Resistance take it deep and SHE Spells Doom jacks up those drums into something close to a UK funky take on Detroit house.

Review: A top value for money opportunity here, as Moiss Music deliver the latest in their sweet and sticky Jam series of various artist 12" line ups, bringing you no less than six bubbling, vivacious disco triumphs from six artists. Khemir's 'Disco Bandit' kicks off proceedings, a production that sounds like it was made by a band of around 45 musicians, a proper cavalcade of strings, brass, brazen disco thump and beautifully bold vocals. Wurzelholz's 'Prince' goes for a bit more economy but with a slinky funk bassline like that - not to mention the occasional exclamation from the purple overlord himself - it's equally devastating in dancefloor terms. Among the other highlights, 'Golden' by I Gemin has the feel of a lost Daft Punk flip tune and Cosmocomics' 'Glamorous Garcon', boasting 70s-style synth bubbles that are as cute as they are retro. Tasty as ever.

Review: Some serious UK electro history here, as Running Back delivers a fresh pressing of Equip's rare 1984 gem 'XXXO', which was previously only available as a single-sided 12" back in the early 2000s. It's an undeniably far-sighted concoction which was produced by Greg Wilson, Martin Jackson and Andy Connell for - but sadly never included on - the pioneering Streesounds UK Electro album the trio created. Although technically electro, the track's 4/4 beats and proto-acid sounds make it a contender for the elusive title of 'first ever house record made in Britain'. To back it up, Gerd Janson has re-edited two previously unreleased electro beats recorded by the trio for a breakdance performance at the I.C.A, both of which sound like mutant, extra-percussive fusions of electro and post-punk.
