Afacan Soundsystem - "Track 1" (8:55)
Jacques Renault - "Belly Dance Dream" (6:44)
Afacan Soundsystem - "Make You Beep" (4:58)
Review: New York favourite, adventurous house producer and classy party starter Jacques Renault brings his unique style to two chunky jams by Afacan Soundsystem. Bringing a full flavour sense of body twisting groove, he flips the opener into a mystic cut with exotic melodies and crunchy, proto-house drums. 'Belly Dance Dream' is a dark percussive workout at hyper speed. The jangling tambourines, wild north African melodies and hammering drums all make for a frenzied mood and then 'Make You Beep' is a monstrous mash-up of techno, electro, afro and disco.

Afrobot - "Changes" (6:41)
Joe's Bakery - "Night Time Logic" (5:11)
Dolly Savalas - "Man On A Boat" (5:21)
Review: Three deeply dug edits from the Salamanca crew: Afrobot takes a stomping southern rock cut and gives it such an industrial strength facelift, it transcends the concept of edit and exists in its own entity. Next up is punk funk boogie showdown from Joe's Bakery. All New Order style vocals and an ESG backline, "Night Time Logic" will throw any dancefloor into a frenzy. Finally we hit the orchestral Italo sounds of Dolly Savalas' "Man On A Boat" which sits prettily between Jim Noir and ELO. Immense. Hand stamped and limited to 300 copies... You know what to do.

Montgomery Clift (feat Jyoti - Yam Who? remix) (6:45)
Montgomery Clift (feat Jyoti - Rayko remix) (5:58)
Review: After 18 months of near silence, Ajello first started teasing us with this in September 2014. Now finally available on 12", it's every bit as sprightly, fun and funky as we'd hoped. With Prelude style synth and vocals and the duo's trademark silken production dynamics, it's well worth the wait. Remix-wise Luminodisco adds a headier 4/4 dancefloor focus, Yam Who? gets his slap bass boogie on while Rayko takes us to the stars with an epic, cosmic work out that's not dissimilar to the early work of Prins Thomas. Stunning.

A Brighter Light

A Brighter Light (original)
A Brighter Light (Lars Vegas Juiced remix)
A Brighter Light (Re A/Jus/Ted mix)
Review: Under The Shade re-emerge after a period away from the spotlight (under a rock perhaps?) with their first release of 2013 helmed by the newly formed A/Jus/Ted. Comprised of veteran producer Justin Strauss and analog aficionado Teddy Stuart, or UNO artist Eddie Mars as he's more widely known, this New York pair comes with plenty of individual credentials but together as A/Jus/Ted there's an intriguing sense of the unknown. Utilising the well respected soulful intonations of Canadian vocalist Jeremy Glenn, "A Brighter Light" slots right into the effervescent melodic end of the deep house market, with a rather more upfront remix from Detroit Swindle's Lars Vegas aimed for the Ejeca and Waze & Odyssey crowd. A further rework from A/Jus/Ted - smartly named "Re A/Jus/Ted" - offers the deepest take here.

Cat: LHT 001. Rel: 05 Sep 12
Alphonse - "Survival" (part 1)
Fx Mchn - "Jackie"
Jamie Blanco - "I Think She Thinks"
Facade - "Revelations"
Review: The newly established London Housing Trust label inaugurate proceedings with a various artists 12" featuring contributions from Cynic artist Jamie Blanco alongside the previously unheralded Alphonse, Fx Mchn and Facade. It's unclear who the latter are but inside info suggests it's three well known artists operating incognito, but don't let this wilful obscurism put you off as each track here is optimum analogue house at its finest. The Fx Mchn contribution "Jackie" is particularly beguiling, touching on jagged punk funk as much as late 80s house with echo laden vocals smudged deep beneath a delightfully rubbery bass line and buccaneering, malfunctioning drums for six minutes. A promising debut from the label!

AROUND7 - "Live At Filmore" (5:31)
Joss Moog - "I Can't Say No" (6:36)
Paul Cut - "Heaven" (5:13)
Hatelate - "The Boogie Show" (feat Claire Lennox) (6:29)
Review: The French brat pack are back; Around7 and Joss Moog are a couple of Phil Weeks' proteges and they turn in some sweet disco edits here. They just so happen to own the label too. Around7's "Live At Fillmore" sounds so awesome; is it possibly a Moodymann/Norma Jean Bell edit? Moog's "I cant Say No" is some proper disco house deepness. On the flip, they've got some newcomers in the form of Paul Cut with "Heaven" a loopy soul-funk cut up and Hatelate with "The Boogie Show" which is pretty sweet, who did he sample on this one again? Reminiscent of "Working Nights" era Trus'me.

Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul - "Cherry Pie" (7:34)
Rabo & Snob - "Darling" (7:15)
JP Source - "Rollergirl Return" (7:04)
Review: Whisky Disco invite a trio of fresh faces to their ever-growing talent troupe for the Disco Darling EP. Andy Ash takes the lead with a loopy, strutting slice of sample-laced house that wouldn't go amiss in a Mark Farina set while Vincenzo De Bull & Halve Soul lower the tempo, invite us on a Balearic picnic and insist we gobble up huge chunks of Sade's "Cherry Pie". Deeper into the EP we find firm label friends Rabo & Snob laying down a velvet bed of Rhodes and vocal harmonies before the final label newcomer JP Source plays a slo-mo game of sample patty-cake with loopy disco mischief.

C Da Afro - "Nothing But The Funk" (6:33)
Juan Soto - "All Is Full Of Love" (5:10)
Review: Super Spicy's Super Spicy Recipe series is back with a sixth mouthwatering offering and once again it's a super hot outing of party-ready house and disco sounds. First up is the irresistibly colourful disco charm of Birdee with the freewheeling 'Underground' and its groove-infused piano. Label boss Monsieur Van Pratt then adds his own spin to a rare groove classic with a lung-busting soul vocal and Pato Watson is in edit mode as he tweaks 'Ella Fue' to perfection. Italian don Paul Older brings some funky jazz fusion sounds to his steamy 'Turkish Lights, C. Da Afro keeps it a party with his 'Nothing But The Funk' and Mexican Juan Soto slips into a more deep and loved-up funk-house vibe on 'All Is Full Of Love'.

Brenda - "Natureza Viva"
Rosana - "Alegria No Ar"
Junior Mendes - "Copacabana Sadia"
Sergio Mallandro - "Vem Fazer Glu Glu"
Review: Destination early 80s Brazil: RCA have curated four previously rare cuts from some of the country's most acclaimed boogie exponents. We ignite with Brenda's Don Beto-produced funk strutter "Natureza Viva", all jazzy chord progressions and razor-sharp tightness. It's followed Rosana's unequivocal synth boogie swooner "Alegria No Ar" which features players from both Banda Black Rio and the mighty Azymuth. Meanwhile on the B, the Latin flavours are more prominent as Junior Mendes's hyper-rare "Copacabana Sadia" and Sergio Mallandro's white-hot Earth Wind & Fire cover "Vem Fazer Glu Glu". Scorching stuff.

On The Prowl Presents OTP Party Breaks #7
Latin Box (Marcos Cabral edit)
No Mistake (Kon 2079 mix)
Love Reaction (Jacques Renault edit)
Night Walker (WOOHOO mix)
Review: It's been a while since label bosses Cabral and Renault treated us to volume six but, as always with OTP, its well worth the wait. Cabral kicks off proceedings with a sludgy proto-house number that comes complete with some fantastic chopped up vocal work a la Kevin Aviance. Kon follows with a homage to the disco edit. Not to leave us languishing in the 70s for too long, "Love Reaction" whisks us forward to a packed warehouse in Chicago circa 1989. Big, roomy, boomy and laced with just the right amount of contemporary production, it's Renault at his darkest. "Night Walker" is the final piece of the edit puzzle; woozy, filtered and possibly the best example of a processed Cevin Fisher vocal ever, it's the ultimate funk finale.

Review: Only 300 of these puppies are being pressed with no intention of digital trips or represses. Sitting sexily between disco and deep house, each of these cuts wriggles and writhes with summer intentions. "Soy Beans" is a straight-up Chicago groove, all house proud and loopy, "You Got It Goin On" is driven by a Moodyman style jazz loop, "808 Pleasure" starts with classic warehouse intentions before dropping into a groove so beautiful Mr Fingers would snap his digits. Finally we take a skinny dip in the oceanic synths and fathomless depths of "You Keep Me Waiting". We didn't think it was possible, but long weekends just got even better!

Review: Z Records DJ-focused Attack The Dancefloor series reaches its tenth installment via an EP packed full of previously unheard secret weapons. There's naturally plenty to get excited about, from the piano-driven goodtime house grooves of Crackazat's floor-filling "What You're Feeling", to the boogie and jazz-funk inspired space-house of Opolopo's brilliant "Put Your Cap On". Sandwiched in between you'll find two Joey Negro disco workouts: his own extended 'Boogie Dub Extravaganza' version of the Sunburst Band style "Must Be The Music", and a nu-disco-meets-Italo-disco reinvention of "Stomp Your Feet" from Crazy P's Chris Todd under the now familiar Hot Toddy alias.

JEKYS - "Looking For You" (4:25)
Review: Favourite Records' new reissues series come with a new concept; each classic track comes with an exclusive bit of artwork on each side of the 12" sleeve. This time, they compile two speedy funk tracks from Crystal and J.E.K.Y.S.; 'Funky Biguine' is an homage to the French ballroom style of the same name, from which it draws influence, while 'Looking For You' is a devotional dream from J.E.K.Y.S., a French band singing in English. Slick, quick, and affecting stuff.

Review: The Foot & Mouth crew return with another 12" of highly impressive discoid edits. First up D-Sound drops "Our World", a fantastic reshape of Hall & Oates, while "Groove Me Your Dove" by Me & My Fellas rounds off the A Side with some languid disco funk. B Side opener "For That" - another lovely Hall & Oates remake - shimmers beneath tropical percussion, and stands out as Juno's EP's highlight. The old school funk bassline, soulful vocals and carefree piano on "1000 Laser Gun" round off a seriously dope 12".

Review: The RDY series rolls on it its 28th edition, presenting three more edits that may or may not have been tweaked, reworked and expanded on by the great Ron Hardy during his time behind the decks at Chicago's legendary Muzic Box. First up is Tullio De Piscopo's classic "Stop Bajon (Primavera)" which has been edited in recent times by both Theo Parrish and Volcov; the original is a fine track which will delight any dancefloor, but then so will this edit. Review: Sandy Grooves Vol.1 is the debut compilation release from Boogie Bodega, a newly formed label by Mexican DJ Sould Out, operated from his new base in Bali, Indonesia. He teams up with Den Ishu on the emotive late night mood music of 'Disco Dust' on the A side, while over on the flip Monsieur Van Pratt serves up the sweltering disco funk of 'Just Groove With Us' featuring a killer brass section. There's more quality to follow; James Rod delivers a serious dancefloor heater on the low-slung groove of "Brooklyn Back" and a classic vocal number never goes astray, does it? JKriv - "Not That Serious" (feat Angela Johnson) (6:45)
Review: Like its predecessor, Big Love's second A Touch of Love EP brings together a wealth of previously digital-only tracks on one must-check slab of wax. Original disco-era diva Debbie Jacobs provides a star turn on Dirty Channels' EP-opening 'Let Love In', a muscular slab of disco-house full of soaring horns and filtered instrumentation, while Seamus Haji's remix of DJ Meme's 'Can't Get You Out of My Mind' is a warming, rolling, life-affirming exercise in peak-time 21st century disco with added house-style percussive weight. The B-side boasts two top-notch slabs of boogie revivalism: Saucy Lady's warming, slap-bass-sporting 'Reunite Under Starlight' and Razor N Tape co-founder JKriv's sparkling Angela Johnson collaboration 'Not That Serious', which is so authentic-sounding that it could have been made in 1983.

Synchronize (Jam Factory dub)
Review: DFA present the DJ edition of Discodeine's superlative collaboration with brandy snap-esque Pulp front man Jarvis Cocker, with a collector's edition 10 inch from Gallic types DIRTY to follow shortly adorned in limited edition spectral art. Much like Bot'ox impressed last year with the short but sweet "Blue Steel", this heavily orchestral disco thump of "Synchronize" is that rare beast: a slice of electronic bliss that, thanks to the vocal involvement of Cocker, could feasibly trouble the dominance of Cowell and co in the pop charts as well as work wonderment on the more discerning dancefloors. Hopefully the forthcoming Discodeine album, set for release in the first few weeks of next year will provide more of the same! The accompanying clutch of remixes from Jam Factory present yet more evidence of the Disco Bloodbath empire growing with ominous ease, as Dan Beaumont and Ben Rymer deliver a pitch perfect example of stripped back warehouse throb that has no doubt been road tested to great effect at the legendary monthly parties.

Review: Whilst the disco cognoscenti waits patiently for the Rub N Tug album to surface, Eric Duncan delivers the fourth Keep It Cheap twelve, once again aptly demonstrating both his envious record collection and superior talent for twisting tracks for optimum dancefloor dynamism. "So Good Feeling" positively brims with soulful disco vibes, as Dunks teases out all the instrumental glee from those strings and guitars dripped in funk before the vocal payoff arrives two thirds through. TBD's Justin Vandervolgen takes care of business on the flip with the dizzying cosmic bump of "Versions" which begins like the record is skipping before an almighty handclap beat arises through and guitar riff straightens out into a killer groove.

Review: Operation Disco is a forthcoming album from Dr Packer and this four-track sampler shows up the sort of 80s boogie disco delights we can all look forward to. The artist is in a fine run of form right now and that continues through the slow slung bass and dazzling chords of his remix of soul-drenched opener Colors - 'Am I Gonna Be The One.' His take on The Sunburst Band & Leroy Burgess is more soulful and musical with a loose rhythm section getting you in the groove. The flip side features some blistering house music on 'Love Fantasy' and acrobatic vocals on chunky funker 'Runnin' by Mistura.

La Vida man Andres is pulling ahead of the competition in terms of appearances on the series, having contributed two remixes in the space of a year. He's back for a third time with an alternate mix to "Where Do We Go From Here" alongside LTJ Experience man Luca Trevisi. Whilst the Andres mix of the track that featured on a 12" earlier this year was an exercise in chopped simplicity, there is a touch more complexity to this alternate take which shows off his ear for warming musicality. Bombay
Review: Jordan Fields and the cleverly hyphened Jean-Michael Jackson team up for the Collectors Dream Package EP for the French Voulezvous Disques label. This 12" brims with production and edit nous even if the A Side from Jordan Fields is somewhat lacking in the track title department. "Track One" sees sampled bass and guitar licks strum and bounce to beefy drums and classic disco vocals whilst "Track Two" strips down to a dusty drum track with subtle signs of filtered guitars supplying light chordal riffage. Face down, Jean-Michael Jackson opens with the looped Rhodes and funk strings of "Shine". Squelchy bass, pan pipes and hot dollops of disco make up "New Generation" while horns and '70s gangster funk trounces about in "Bombay".

Review: In its full digital form, Z Records' excellent Life's Better With Disco Comp is an epic 37 tracks deep. Naturally there aren't that many cuts on this sampler 12", but the four on show are undoubtedly amongst the set's many highlights. Boss man Dave Lee kicks things off via a superb classic disco-meets-nu-disco revision of Firefly's 'Love Is Gunna Be On Your Side', before there's a chance to cop an obscure Backroom Productions rework of their early proto-house/garage-house gem (as Ruffneck), 'The Power - The Rhythm'. The mid-'80s fun continues on Larry Levan's vintage remix of Jonny Dynell's 'Rhythm of Love' - a killer fusion of dubbed-out synths and drums and Konk style Latin percussion - while Doug Willis' 'Doug's Disco Theme' is a classic disco-house number from Lee under one of his many alternative aliases.

The percolating sounds of Fizzy Veins featured on the debut Worldwide Echo release, and the production unit is on fine form here, lining the A side with a stripped back percussive kraut groover in the shape of "Vermona" whilst the folky "November Sunshine" will strangely appeal to the Tapes cut on Workshop. On the flip, the equally unheralded Joseph Salzig spreads his wings with the wonderful 16-minute production "See Will Dancing/Dancer".

Sleepless (original mix)
Sleepless (Shlohmo remix)
Sleepless (Midland dub)
Review: Undoubtedly one of the most successful Australian operations of recent times, Future Classic have shown a willingness to step beyond the realm of disco-flecked house with their investment in the creative talents of Flume. The sickeningly young Sydney based beatmaker first came to the fore with a contribution to Anna Lunoe's well received debut EP on the FC label earlier this year, and Sleepless precedes the release of a full debut album later this year. "Sleepless" is a confident debut, chopping out a woozy melange of luscious pads, pitch shifted vocals and dreamy synth patterns over a killer mid tempo head nodders beat. Oh and you can't go wrong with remixes from Midland and Shlomo can you?

Francis Inferno Orchestra - "Horizon Beat"
Jonno & Tommo - "Scare The Night"
Scott Featherstone & Tino - "Circles"
Ramboiage - "Pretty Baby"
Review: Brand spanking new label Sccucci Manucci launches with a 12" offering containing cuts from four different but equally pleasing sources. Those of you who hang out at the crossroads where disco meets house will no doubt already be keenly aware of the stylings of Aussie pup Francis Inferno Orchestra, and here he turns in piano-driven stomper "Horizon Beat". No less euphoric is "Scare The Night" by Jonno & Tommo - alas not a production duo from Far North Queensland but the considerably less tropical climes of London - who drop an oven warm slow-mo jam that brings to mind I:Cube's epic "Falling". Scott Featherstone & Tino TCB on the flip, with "Circles" guaranteed to raise a smile from the more discerning corners of the dancefloor. Portuguese newcomer Ramboiage rounds off the release, dropping some Cottam-esque heavy thud house on "Pretty Baby". Already in the record bags of Jacques Renault and other members of the disco cognoscenti, fans of Wolf Music and Kolour Recordings will be all over this record which comes wrapped in some seriously porno artwork.

Your Love (Darius Syrossian remix) (6:53)
Your Love (Alan Dixon Love Attack remix) (7:32)
Your Love (Director's cut Signature mix) (9:21)
Review: As one of the most cherished of all house tracks ever made, you have to be careful who you ask to remix Frankie Knuckles and Jamie Principle's 'Your Love'. Darius Syrossian recognises this as he offers a contemporary version of the track on this 12", threading a chunky, lightly swung tech house back bone to the track and slipping some breakbeats in underneath those dizzying emotional peaks in the track. Meanwhile Alan Dixon creates a version that holds closer to the original and simply beefs up the drums and threads some fatter synths into the mix. Meanwhile Knuckles himself teamed up with Eric Kupper to form Director's Cut in 2011, and their version appears here as a subtle update to the power of the original.

Tortured Soul - "You Found A Way" (Art Of Tones beats)
Review: To celebrate five years of his Lazy Days imprint, Fred Everything gets Crazy P, Art of Tones and Ian Pooley to provide a bunch of remixes of some of the label's best-loved tracks. While all provide solid reworks - particularly Crazy P, whose re rub of Fred Everything's own "Friday" is excellent - it's Art Of Tones who really excels. His two reworks of Tortured Soul's "You Found A Way" are everything a disco-loving house head would wish for; loose, bumpin' and deliciously soulful, riding a wave of loose-wristed live drums and classic synth strings.

Headbands
Night Braces
Review: Brooklyn's Discovery Recordings hits release number three with a killer drop from Free Magic and JKriv. It's hard to look past the slow burning delights of title track "Catalano" here, with killer pared back percussive elements supporting the supple groove and sultry vocals. "Headbands" meanwhile is a more summery affair with a more discernable vocal lead and insouciant keys; flip over for the chunkiest cut of the lot, "Night Braces", which is perfectly suited for the late, late hours. Definitely a label to keep an eye on. Limited hand stamped pressing too!

Monsieur Van Pratt - "With You" (5:59)
Review: Set your phasers to disco, the Spincat label is back with more of that fired up, exquisitely edited goodness that makes you want to get down. First up on this various artists 12" is The Funk District, who keeps things heady and swooning on the Philly string busting 'Like A Bird On A Cage'. Hotmood, fresh from bringing the good stuff to Disco Fruit, is feeling feisty on the decidedly jacked up 'La La La'. It's an uptempo stomper with a relentless charge and a loopy flavour that could sit in a techno set as easily as a disco one. C Da Afro and JB Boogie team up to kick the B side off with 'Latin Vibez', which works in some choice 80s electro funk flavours amongst the driving disco beat.

Review: The Super Spicy Recipe series comes with its 4th installment with a super strong compilation! A1 belongs to the always trustable Igor Gonya, who opens the record with a track that comes directly from the mid 70's, splashed with some new grooves. A2 is on charge of the amazing italian producer Musta, who delivers an astonishing jazzy track to heat the dance floor. Pisma Deer takes control on A3 with a loopy groove with heavier drums to keep the dance on! On the flip, B1 is entrusted to Disco 86 who delivers a sexy smasher track that has been tested in the dancefloor with sexy results. Review: Especial Specials has joined forces with Osaka-based imprint Chillmountain Recordings to offer up another Enjoy Your Self EP. This one once again showcases the talents on its roster with label head Ground kicking off with a beatdown meets trance sound on "Utau Narukoyuri'. After that slow burner come tribal percussive sounds from 'Arauma' (Kobato Dub), sunny cumbia on 'Something Sign' and a meandering Balearic journey from Akira Arasawa With KUN & FRANKY-CH that is brought to life with new age flute sounds, bird calls, jungle drips and folkloric strings. A fantastic EP, then.

Review: This collaboration between Jimi Tenor and Tomasz Guiddo shines brightly and features a heartwarming hook that really lodges deep in the brain as 'Where The Wild Roam' pairs ancient-sounding lo-fi drums with a Western-style whistle and plenty of earthy, twanging guitars. Next up the legendary Louie Austen lends his vocals to 'Smile' for a steamy and tropical house sound lit up with Latin melodies over a shuffling, samba-adjacent rhythm. Erobique, known for chart hits in Europe and his work with DJ Koze, contributes his magic, while Freestyle Man, aka Sasse from Moodmusic, delivers his trademark deep house style. Ale Castro adds a DJ-friendly house version, enhancing the EP's overall allure.

Review: Rawest deep house and nu-disco from the camp over at Disco Biscuits, who present their second edition of V/A contributions from the likes of Ken Kayakawa, LeSale and Das Komplex - a hybrid, international affair, focusing on the sound of house and nothing else. Think Ruf Dug, Fort Romeau, Kassian. Too Slow To Disco Edits 07: Yacht Disco

Delfonic - "Let's Go Disco" (4:59)
Jack Tennis - "Jorge's Pipa" (6:32)
Those Guys From Athens - "4 Your Love" (4:34)
Review: If warming, glassy-eyed midtempo disco niceness is your thing, we'd heartily recommend this languid, sun-drenched edits offering from the Too Slow To Disco camp. It's packed to the rafters with toasty, afternoon-ready fare that's arguably best listened to while decked out in boat shoes, pastel-coloured shorts and a stripy t-shirt. HOLDTight steps up first with the head-nodding, saucer-eyed shuffle of future yacht disco classic 'Be My Love 2Nite', before Delfonic offers up a fine rearrangement of an obscure, breathy and seductive disco gem full of prominent Moog synth sounds, jaunty pianos and whispered vocals. 'Jorge's Pipa' by Jack Tennis is a fine, floor-friendly tweak of a disco-era Brazilian gem, while Those Guys From Athens' '4 Your Love' is a seductive disco slow jam straight from the top shelf.
