Super cool little collab between Yuri Suzuki, Jeff Mills and Japanese brand Gakken. Cut your own records using the vinyl blanks provided. Cutting machine also works as a lo-fi turntable with built-in speaker.

Now you can easily create your own records at home with the Gakken Toy Record Maker. These will create lo-fi records for your enjoyment.

Jeff Mills x Yuri Suzuki collaborated with the Japanese publisher Gakken to create the INSTANT RECORD CUTTING MACHINE.

Designed with universal usability in mind, the compact unit has a simple interface and is able to cut blank vinyl discs and play them back instantly. This is the first time a record cutting machine has been readily available to purchase at a consumer level, and is aimed at both the seasoned record collector, as well as those first venturing into the world of vinyl.

Consisting of a cutting arm as well as a playback tone arm, the machine is unique in its functionality. To cut a record, the user simply plays audio through the provided auxiliary cable or USB and then lifts the cutting arm onto a blank disc. Once the record is cut, users can instantly listen back to their recording through the tone arm and inbuilt speaker.

Yuri Suzuki and his team designed the machine's concept and interface, while Gakken took on a technical and manufacturing role. The machine will be accompanied by a magazine (printed in Japanese) detailing its design and background, as well as an insight into the vinyl cutting process.

Notes: 3-inch records were originally released and marketed for a short time in Japan in the early 2000s, just before the worldwide re-birth of vinyl began to take hold. Fast forward 14 years, the idea of resurrecting the format stemmed from a trip to Japan when representatives of Record Store Day met the only factory that used to make these "8ban" records. After a year of ideation, prototyping, tweaking and collaboration with the Record Store Day team, the RSD3 Mini Turntable by Crosley was born. Don't be fooled by its small stature! This mini belt-drive turntable has a lot of the same features as its big brother: AT3600 moving-magnet cartridge, adjustable pitch control, fully supported platter and aux out port with RCA adapter. The RSD3 has a built-in speaker that gets the job done, but use the aux-out and included RCA cable adapter to hook this mini turntable into larger speakers and you're in for a surprise. Record Store Day and Crosley are here to remind you that it's true what they say: size doesn't platter!
