DJ turntables

When it comes to choosing the best DJ turntables, the obvious starting point is with the classic Technics SL-1200/SL-1210. The SL has been an industry standard since the 1970s – and the current MK7 model offers excellent hi-fi sound, build quality and durability – but there are plenty of other good options to choose from. The ideal DJ turntable has to be an all-rounder: it goes without saying that you need excellent sound quality to get the most from your vinyl, but you also need something that can stand up to the rigours of DJ use, which are inherently more demanding than the typical use a hi-fi turntable would endure. There are even special models designed for scratch DJs or users of software like Serato and Traktor. With affordable beginner options via brands like Audio-Technica and Reloop, plus pro models from the likes of Technics and Pioneer, there’s something for everyone.

Reloop RP-8000MK2 Upper Torque Hybrid DJ Turntable
Cat: 716748 Rel: 05 Mar 19

Upper torque hybrid turntable instrument
Notes: Outstanding DJ turntable, designed to bridge the gap between vinyl and Serato. Solid analogue turntable underneath, embellished with digital features like pads, performance modes and an LCD screen for track info.

Supplier's notes:
This turntable is designed for a seamless integration with Serato DJ Pro, offering the possibility of controlling up to 7 different performance modes via the pad section. And thanks to the unique Platter Play mode, the pads can be used to control the platter's rotation speed to create melodies and authentic musical performances. The RP-8000 MK2 represents the perfect balance of a first-class professional turntable and an innovative musical instrument.

Real Time LC Display:
Besides all creative improvements, the RP-8000 MK2 has everything a DJ turntable should be equipped with. A digital LC display shows information regarding pitch, BPM, deck assignment, scales and notes, elapsed/remaining time of current track, as well as firmware settings. In Serato DJ Pro, it is possible, for example, to show the current BPM value of a track, in order to exactly match your tracks without the need to look at your computer monitor.

Pad section with 7 New Performance Modes:
Developed for application with Serato DJ Pro, and thanks to the seamless plug-and-play integration, the RP-8000 MK2 in a DVS setup offers unparalleled creative possibilities. The 8 large pads with RGB illumination can control over 7 different performance modes (Cue, Sampler, Saved Loops, Pitch Play, Loop, Loop Roll, Slicer), as well as 2 user modes, which can be custom assigned with individual preferred functions. Furthermore, by using the multi encoder it is possible to browse tracks directly from the turntable unit itself, and load them instantly to the respective deck. Thanks to its MIDI compatibility, the RP-8000 MK2 can communicate with every MIDI compatible DJ software - this way, an additional controller for performance modes is not necessary.

Balanced S-Shaped Tone Arm with Upgraded Tone Arm Base:
The RP-8000 MK2 features a statically balanced S-shaped tone arm with hydraulic lift and anti-skating mechanism. The newly developed tone arm base provides improved stability and adjustable height/vertical tracking angle (VTA). The low-resonance tone arm comes with a universal connection for pick-up cartridge systems (SME).

Platter Play - Creative Platter Pitch Control:
Platter Play mode allows users to control the platter's pitch via the performance pads, opening up new possibilities for musical live performances and turning the RP-8000 MK2 into a legitimate musical instrument. A total of 22 scales and 34 notes are at your disposal with an option to create up to 9 user-defined scales. The two speed select buttons can be used for pitch bending in Platter Play mode and also to respectively increase or decrease the audio material's pitch in steps of one half-tone. Furthermore, the platter's speed can also be controlled via an external MIDI keyboard.

High-Resolution Pitch Section with Digital Fader:
By using the high-resolution pitch fader, you can adjust the platter speed in the classic turntable pitch range +/-8%. The RP-8000 MK2 is also cable of a wider, DJ-friendly +/- 16% pitch range and a massive +/-50% ultra-pitch, allowing for increased creativity when manipulating and mixing records. If quartz lock is active, the platter speed will remain unaffected by the fader position and will spin at zero pitch (0%).

Powerful Motor with Extensive Adjustment Possibilities:
The fine-tuned, quartz-driven motor with digital pitch correction operates at a starting torque of 2.8kg/cm, which can be adjusted up to a maximum of 4.5kg/cm. This makes the RP-8000 MK2 an extremely smooth running turntable. Also, the turntable break speed (platter stop) can be adjusted from 0.2 - 6 seconds and the precision-machined, heavy die-cast aluminium platter is lined with vibration-reducing rubber to eliminate unwanted vibrations and resonance.

Sturdy Casing Construction:
By using a combination of metal, rubber and synthetic materials, the RP-8000 MK2's housing is more reinforced and heavier than ever before. This results in a turntable that is extremely resistant to vibrations caused by heavy bass sounds, and its shock-absorbing feet help to further improve this isolation. The surface is coated with a scratch-resistant high-quality deep black metallic finish.

High-Quality Connections and Integrated Phono Pre-Amp:
Thanks to the recessed rear connection panel, the RP-8000 MK2 can easily be mounted in a flight case and seamlessly positioned next to other DJ gear. Due to the additional output, the turntable can be connected to 2 mixers simultaneously, also allowing an easy switch from DVS to vinyl. An optional ground terminal offers additional protection in club environments. All cable connections (RCA/mains) are detachable and easy to exchange, which also helps with transport and storage.

Technics SL-1200MK7 Direct Drive DJ Turntable (silver)
Cat: 825535 Rel: 25 Jun 21

High-performance direct drive DJ turntable
Notes: Silver version of the rebooted SL-1200, updated and refreshed in MK7 form. Still sounds great, still built like a tank and still the industry standard DJ deck.

Supplier's Notes:
Coreless Direct Drive Motor Achieving Stable Rotation

The direct drive system uses a slow-turning motor to directly drive the platter. This system has various advantages. It offers high performance, such as rotation accuracy and powerful torque, does not require replacement of parts and maintains high reliability over a long period of time. On the other hand, the direct drive system was said to produce a rotation irregularity called cogging. For the SL-1200MK7, a new coreless direct drive motor was developed. This motor employs a coreless stator. The removal of the core (iron core) from the stator eliminated the root cause of cogging. Furthermore, the magnetic force of the rotor magnets was improved to the highest possible level, and the gap between the coreless stator and rotor magnets was optimised, thus achieving high-torque-performance equalling that of the SL-1200MK5. Boasting smooth rotation and powerful torque, this motor reproduces sound accurately and faithfully from the groove on an analogue record.

Diverse New Functions Adapt to Various Playing Styles

The newest digital motor control technology, accumulated through the development of Blu-ray disc products, is applied to improve adjustment by allowing the torque and brake speed to be adjusted individually in four steps.

The pitch control function allows fine adjustment of the rotation speed within i8 % / i16 %. It does this through digital control, from positional detection of the slider to rotational control of the motor, eliminating the unnecessary DA conversion. This greatly improves tracking performance to achieve accurate and stable pitch adjustment.

Reverse Play Function

The reverse play function, which brings forth new possibilities of creative performance, makes its first appearance in the SL-1200 Series. In addition to 33-1/3 rpm and 45 rpm, a rotation speed of 78 rpm is supported.
*The torque / brake speed adjustment, rotation speed switch, and reverse play can be adjusted by switches on the main unit.

The tonearm, which has continued to support the leading edge of the DJ scene for many years, inherits the highly reliable static-balance universal S-shape tonearm. Using high-precision bearings, it achieves a higher initial-motion sensitivity than the SL-1200MK6. This accurately tracks the groove on the phonorecord to assure excellent tracking performance with minimum stylus jumping even in harsh playing conditions such as scratching.

The stylus illuminator features a new push-type structure for intuitive operation, and employs a high-brightness and long-life white LED. The illumination area and intensity were reviewed to provide improved visibility of the stylus tip even in a dark environment.

Power / Phono Cable Terminals

The power and phono cable terminals allow detachment of the cables. The phono terminals are gold-plated to minimise sound quality degradation. Since the terminals allow disconnection of the cables, maintenance of the cables is easier.

High-rigidity Cabinet and High-damping Insulator

The chassis, an essential part for reducing external vibrations, inherits the audio quality enhancement technology fostered through the development of high-end turntables. The aluminium die-cast chassis is rigidly integrated with a special material consisting of ABS mixed with glass fibre to achieve a two-layer construction. The combination of this special high-rigidity material and a metal chassis raised the rigidity and vibration-damping performance to higher levels, realising a robust cabinet for beautiful sound reproduction. The insulator is comprised of a spring and rubber to provide optimal frequency characteristics. This not only assures high sound quality and superb howling resistance, but also effectively shuts out external vibrations under high sound level conditions.

Technics SL-1210MK7 Direct Drive DJ Turntable (black)
Cat: 717586 Rel: 12 Jun 19

Professional direct drive turntable
Notes: The legend is back. Updated and re-engineered for the 21st century, the classic Technics DJ turntable remains the industry standard. Top sound, top build quality.

Supplier notes:
The SL-1210MK7 is the newest model of the SL-1210 Series. For the development of this model, all that modern-day DJs need and want was reviewed from the ground up. At the drive section of the MK7 is a coreless direct drive motor. While achieving both stable rotation and powerful torque, this has successfully eliminated a rotation irregularity called cogging, which was the only drawback of the direct drive system. As a result, sound quality was further improved. The pitch control incorporates digital control to achieve improved tracking performance and accuracy. The buttons and tonearm are black to complete the all black design, and the LED light can be set to illuminate in red or blue. A reverse play function has been added to expand the breadth of DJ play style. With those features and functions, the MK7 aims to set a new standard for DJ turntables.
