Notes: In 2009, Akai Professional collaborated with the creators of Ableton Live, a powerful music performance and production software environment, and introduced the original Ableton Performance Controller-APC40. The instrument raised the standards of controller design, revolutionized hardware and software integration, and proved to be an essential performance tool for Ableton Live users everywhere. Building upon this original partnership, Akai Professional now introduces an all-new, reimagined Ableton Live controller-APC40 mkII.

The new APC40 mkII incorporates five years of user feedback into its design. Almost every aspect of the original APC40 has been deliberated, reworked, and improved to provide extended controller functionality, countless musical capabilities, and a smarter workflow. In addition to its sleek look, veteran APC40 users will immediately notice the enhancements that include an RGB clip-launching grid, reinforced fader design, revised knob lay out, and much more.

APC40 mkII features a 5x8 RGB clip-launching grid that's built for dexterous exploration: launch clips and create or perform your song from the ground up using 40 responsive triggers. RGB lighting provides visual feedback and displays three clip statuses-loaded, playing, and recording-so you can intelligently perform without looking at your computer. You can also color code your clips with the RGB lighting for advanced visual organization, and use the Shift button and directional arrows to manipulate the scope of the 5x8 grid.

APC40 mkII comes equipped with an array of assignable faders and knobs: nine reinforced faders and eight channel control knobs are arranged in-line with each channel for an intuitive layout and smarter workflow. Eight Device Control knobs make it easy to tweak device parameters and light up to provide visual feedback of each parameter. In addition, the Sends button enable users to cycle through all eight send buses right from their APC40 mkII. The A/B crossfader has also been reworked and can be assigned and re-assigned without ever having to touch the mouse.

APC40 mkII comes pre-mapped to Live for an instant performance and production setup. When APC40 mkII is plugged into your computer, its hardware controls correspond 1 to 1 with Ableton Live's interface-no additional configuring is required. In addition, all of APC40 mkII's controls can be re-assigned on the fly for customized setups that change with your performance or production style. The 16n AtoVproject rework is a complete redesign of the original open source (CC-BY-SA) project 16n faderbank. This project was originated by Brian Crabtree, Sean Hellfritsch, Tom Armitage, Brendon Cassidy. As wished by the original designers, the 16n AtoVproject rework is also open source and uses the same CC-BY-SA licence.

If you just bought your Midi Fighter Twister or haven't used the utility in a while chances are you might need to update it's firmware with the latest and greatest. This is a fairly straightforward process as long as you take some extra precautions.

1. Download and install the MF Utility if you don't have it already on your computer (PC/Mac).

2. After you check that any other MIDI related applications (Ableton, Traktor, etc) are closed connect your Twister directly to your computer and open the MF Utility. DO NOT USE A USB HUB

3. Click on "File>Export Settings" and select a destination, this will back up your Twister's settings if you have customized your Twister beforehand and make sure you export it outside of the "Midi Fighter Utility" folder since your OS might lock this location and prevent the MFS file from being generated successfully. If you just got your Twister you can skip this step.

4. If a new firmware is available for your device you should see a message in the utility as soon as your device is detected.

5. Click on the orange UPDATE FIRMWARE button and accept the pop up message warning you not to use a USB hub.

6. Once this process finishes your device will reboot and the MF Utility will now show it has successfully updated the firmware!

Notes: The LIOBOX is a MIDI controller developed to interact with ABLETON LIVE 10,11. It gives you the possibility to display on screen and launch the songs in your session (or arrangement).

The interface is automatically synchronized with your software and permits you to control all transport functions in real time (Play, Pause, resume, stop, rewind, forward, play again).

Therefore you can control your Ableton session directly from the box without using the computer.

Auto config

When you connect, LIOBOX automatically retrieves all marker and track positions from your Ableton session. This allows you to launch them individually directly from the stage.

Its 3.5" screen permanently displays the track currently playing and offers you to select the next track to be launched. No more tedious assignments.

The LIOBOX is permanently synchronized with your software, it displays the play or pause status of your software and updates your tracklist in case of modification on the computer.

A connection indicator shows you at all times on the screen whether the box is properly connected to the computer, so there's no longer any doubt when a track is launched.

Setlist function

Thanks to its integrated setlist function, you can reorganise the order of your songs directly from the box without having to modify your session. You can save up to 40 setlists in your box.


Track information retrieval

The information of each track can be displayed on the LIOBOX screen (BPM, key, duration), for that you just have to fill them in the name of your song, according to a simple protocol described in the documentation.

Redundancy function


Thanks to the development of 2 distinct scripts you can use the LIOBOX to control two computers simultaneously, one primary and one secondary. The connection status of each computer is permanently displayed on the screen, which allows you to detect immediately if one of the two computers has disconnected.

Display

In order to adapt to all show situations, the LIOBOX has two display modes, a Dark mode and a Day mode, which allows you to keep a visual on the screen even in strong light.

MIDI output

The LIOBOX has an integrated MIDI out 3.5 jack which allows you to send MIDI signals through the box on a second independent port. This allows you to send program changes or notes to instruments on stage.

Basic Usage instructions:

Front:

Voltage Select switches: Independent for each channel. Does NOT affect MIDI/I2C data.

Slider LED colour: To change the LED color, simply remove the cap and rotate the square LED 180s. Do NOT force the LED back in, it should slide in easily, may require wiggling.

Side:

USB: Mini USB connection for power and/or connection to computer. For use, simply connect to a 5V USB wall wart, 150 mA min (not included). The device is a class compliant MIDI device and requires no drivers.

I2C: 2 buffered I2C ports. Can be used as a small I2C hub

Dissassembly: Simply remove the 4 screws from the side without the connections, remove the side plate, and slide out the bottom of the device

PCB Rear:

Power backpack: This is the power supply for the device. When converting to the eurorack configuration, simply remove. There is a standard 10pin power header below.

Module Config DIP switch: This allows you to switch between I2C Follower and I2C Leader modes easily. Simply move the switch to the "lead" position and restart the module (you can press the blue reset button once). The other 3 positions are for future expansion and not currently implemented.

Any plugin that presents its parameters for automation in Logic Pro, can be controlled from Panorama CS12. That includes Logic Pro's own plugins and any AU plugin hosted in Logic Pro.

Plugin Slot Selection

CS12 control insert plugins like no controller has ever done before. The 8 plugin slot select buttons are illuminated when plugins are present in the first 8 slots and the top button toggles between slots 1-8/9-16. Press a button and control the insert plugin immediately. Press another button and now control that plugin.

Control Any Parameter NOW

Control any parameter by simply clicking on it. The 100mm ALPS fader immediately jumps to the clicked parameters position and you take over from there. The fader or pan rotary, can be used to control any parameter in the currently selected Logic Pro channel, at any time.

Activate the Select button and the motorized fader now controls any parameter you click. Any mixer channel, instrument or insert effect plugin parameters. Click, control, click control. Super easy.

Nektarine Map Creation

For the ultimate in control mapping, use the included Nektarine application/plugin. Assign parameters to controls using drag and drop, create your page structure and name parameters and pages so they are optimized for CS12. Once saved, plugin maps are picked up by ControlCore for use with CS12.

Precision control at 10x resolution

14 bit control resolution is not limited to the motorized fader. With the Fine button (magnifier icon) enabled each of the 12 pots control at 14 bit resolution. In practice this means you'll be able adjust parameters with the same fine grained values available through your plugins UI or up to 10 x regular control resolution.

Transport controls

Add More Consoles:
In addition to single Console 1 ready plug-ins, there are entire Console 1 channel strips available, with EQ, compressor, gate and modelled saturation from the original analog hardware. Currently, the options are Solid State Logic XL 9000 K-Series for Console 1, British Class A For Console 1 and Summit Audio Grand Channel for Console 1, with more to come.

Control Your DAW:
Console 1 works with any major DAW on the market. But certain DAWs - currently Presonus Studio One and Cakewalk SONAR - feature additional integration, meaning you can use the Console 1 hardware to control vital DAW functions such as track selection, volume, send levels, pan and solo/mute. We aim to have this functionality added for all DAWs.

And the Winner Is:
The first-generation Console 1 was an immediate success and did not only receive prestigious awards and praise from the pro audio press - but more importantly, the end users loved it. Even seasoned engineers such as Michael Brauer, Jason Goldstein, Dave Isaac and Gareth Jones took the system to their hearts.

Upgraded Hardware:
Three years after the original Console 1 release, it is time to introduce the Mk II version. It has the same build quality as the original units, with some minor layout changes such as more visible LED markers. More importantly, efficient manufacturing processes have made the system much more affordable.
