Notes: You've been up all night in a bidding war on eBay to win a prized 80s rack effect unit - you can't wait to add some serious cheese to your tracks, and the sound of gated reverbs ring in your ears. Your heart pounds, and your pulse rises to crescendo as you win the auction! But there is one problem: your Eurorack system runs way too hot to simply plug straight into your stereo FX units. Your heart sinks, as you realize there is not much you can do that doesn't involve a lot of messing around with complicated and weird mono modules. That is, until now: introducing the Herzlich SFXI.

The Stereo FX Integrator was designed in response to my own need: owning several cool stereo FX units, and having no easy way to integrate them with an easy send and return, in my Eurorack system. Attenuate your Eurorack signals down to line level, or even all the way down to instrument level, and get a nice, clean boost back up to modular levels, with this dead simple and highly useful device from the R&D department at Herzlich Labs.

You can even use it to integrate external stereo line level signals into your Eurorack, which is both nice and convenient, and also useful. Finally, you have an easy way to get the sound of your JV1080 into your Clouds.

The scientists have been working overtime to produce this unit, and were fed extra rations of maize and millet gruel just to bring you this circuit. Every SFXI sold will grant the poor souls at Herzlich Labs another serving of maize and millet gruel. Please think of the poor scientists at Herzlich Labs.

Notes: The Hungry Robot Sample & Hold provides basic S&H functionality with some added bells and whistles. It uses an internal clock dialed into a very useful range. If the internal clock rate is not to your liking, you can bypass the Rate knob by patching a clock signal into Clk In. The Sample & Hold has a built in attenuverter giving a bit of added control over the random voltages that are outputted. White noise out for uses elsewhere. Traditionally a S&H samples voltages from chaotic white noise, but E.In allows you to bypass the white noise and patch in your own sample source (i.e. patching an LFO in for a bit crushed LFO). As with all Hungry Robot "Modular Boxes" the Sample & Hold can be powered with a simple 9V DC, Negative Center power supply.

Notes: Lovely little mono filter module in a compact desktop format. Based on the classic Prophet 5 filter, ideal for processing synths and signals, hooking up to Eurorack or other Hungry Robot modules.

Supplier's Notes:

The Hungry Robot VCF is an all analog, 4-pole low pass filter with a self-oscillating resonance control. It is a close replication of the filter circuit found on the famous Prophet 5. It uses a HM2040 which is a high quality, faithful replication of the original SSM2040 chip. This resonant filter has a beautiful tonal quality. The over-sized knobs provide a satisfying tactile response. The cutoff frequency can be controlled by external control voltage. It has a built-in attenuator and invert switch for the incoming CV. CV input does not track at 1V/Oct, but is scaled to act as a VCA when a 5V signal is applied to CV input. As with all Hungry Robot "Modular Boxes" the VCF can be powered by a simple 9V DC, Negative Center power supply.

Notes: Get Amped

Amps comprises two precision linear VCAs that have been carefully designed to offer a wealth of flexibility and additional functionality. The front panel controls and signal normals allow these two VCAs to also be configured to function as: line level boosters, crossfaders, ring modulators, mixers, and much more. They can also be chained together by way of an included cable to form larger, more complex systems.

Amps features cascaded CV inputs and cascaded mix outputs allowing it to be used in a number of versatile configurations. A boost switch enables you to amplify each VCA's input by either +6dB or +20dB i ideal for boosting low amplitude signals or pleasingly overdriving audio. The addition of a phase inversion switch for the second channel allows Amps to function as a ring modulator. The CV normalization, which can also be inverted and offset, also allows for VC-Crossfader functionality.

Notes: Noise Random Tools comprises a collection of useful utility blocks that you could use in many of your patches - Clock, Random Pulse, Analog Noise, Sample and Hold, and Slew.

Notes: Outs enables your modular system to output both professional and prosumer compliant audio, and send it to external amplifiers, mixers, recording devices, or DAW interfaces. Using the L+R Level knob, it scales modular-level voltages down to the level required to drive external gear at either the +4dBu balanced professional line-level standard or the -10 dbV unbalanced standard.

Headphone monitoring is also provided via a low noise built-in headphone amp (with its own independent level control), capable of driving a wide range of impedances - from studio grade headphones to portable style earbuds.

To use Outs, simply connect the final output of your patch to the 1/8" inputs (where the built-in activity LEDs light up to indicate the presence and intensity of the input signal). The left input is normalled to the right, so you can create a stereo signal from a mono source. Or if you have an Intellijel Mixup, you can remove a jumper from its rear panel, and connect it to the Outs module using the 3-pin link cable included with the Mixup.

Multimode State Variable Filter

The perfect 1U, multimode, voltage-controlled filter for sweet-sounding subtractive synthesis duties or to form the basis of more complex patches. Punchy, clean, and precise. Explore new sounds through the dual modulation inputs and dedicated low pass, high pass and band pass/notch outputs. This filter responds beautifully to audio rate FM and you can self-patch to get even more interesting filter responses. Adjust the Q for a sharp howl or use it as a sine VCO.

Notes: Triplatt is a three-channel active/buffered attenuverter and summing mixer. Each channel has a knob, which can function as a unipolar attenuator or a bipolar attenuverter, depending on the setting of its corresponding two-position polarity switch.

Each input is normalled to a built-in precision +5V DC voltage source. With nothing plugged into the jacks, each knob controls a voltage range of 0 to +5 V or -5 to +5 V depending on the position of the channel polarity switch. Outputs A and B are also capable of a range of 0-10 / -10 to +10 when using the special function switches.

Each output is normalled to mix into the output of the channel below, making it possible to do sub mixes in groups of two or three.

In addition, each channel has a "special function" switch to alter its input voltage in a specific way. Channel A has a 2x voltage multiplier switch, allowing you to double the voltage sent into Channel A. Channel B has a +5V switch, allowing you to add 5V to whatever voltage is sent into Channel B. Channel C has a mute switch, allowing you to completely turn off the signal being sent into Channel C.

An analog oscillator and LFO with pure waveforms and precise tracking in a compact package. Perfect as a utility modulation source but equally capable to be used as a primary sound source. Patch it up and let it rip!

Notes: Sometimes your ears are not enough and you really need to see the sounds and control voltages you are generating. Zeroscope's two channel design lets you display and compare both control voltages and audio. It's a good old fashioned sci-fi light show!

The Zeroscope 1U is an adaptation of the excellent 3U Zeroscope by VPME.DE.

Three Modes Packed Into 1U:

- Scope: Standard graphical display, with time displayed on the X-axis and voltage displayed on the Y-axis.
- X-Y: Alternate graphical display with CH 1 driving the X-axis and CH 2 driving the Y-axis.

Notes: By combining a mixer and four VCAs in a single module, Mix 3 manages to provide a unique combination of compact size and functionality in just 6 HP. High-end signal paths ensure extremely low noise and distortion, wide headroom and precise gain control, despite the small form factor.

Each of the three main channels has an exponential response, which is more natural for audio than linear, as it matches the human hearing. However, all signal paths are DC-coupled, so control voltage (CV) signals can be processed as well.

What truly sets Mix 3 apart from other compact mixing modules are the three CV inputs, providing voltage control over the signal levels. This even allows you to go beyond unity gain and reach up to +20 dB of amplification. Once a CV input is used, the corresponding channel knob becomes a CV attenuator.

When clipping, Mix 3 does so in a clean, symmetrical way. This yields a very pure overdriven sound, only containing odd harmonics, and allows the module to be used as a triple voltage controlled distortion.

Additional features include audio indicator LEDs, a fourth auxiliary input, voltage control over the output level and a line output jumper setting.

Signal flow is an essential concept in modular synthesis: the path taken by audio or control voltages (CVs) may be long or short, branching or linear, intuitive or highly complex.

While the patch programmability of a modular system is its greatest strength, it can also be a weakness: quick experimentation is often hampered by the need to repatch the synthesiser to change the signal flow.

Pivot 2 offers a unique solution: a compact, fully voltage controlled variable signal router. At the turn of a single knob, any signal can be routed through two external modules in series, parallel or reverse series, as well as any combination in between.

Experiment with patching wavefolders before, after or alongside filters, shuffle multiple delay lines, precisely dial in two-stage audio compression or easily control intricate feedback patches.

Notes: Designed with and for performing artists, Switch 4 delivers a hands-on signal switching and routing solution for your Eurorack modular synthesiser.

Quickly mute audio signals, trigger envelopes live, select modulation sources on the fly... With custom dual-action toggle switches, an intuitive interface and sturdy construction, Switch 4 will prove just as useful on stage as in the studio.

The bottom switching section includes four lever-actuated toggle switches, to make or break the signal path between the inputs and outputs. These switches feature a dual action: latched upwards, momentary downwards.

The four input signals are also sent to the top routing section, where two rotary switches allow you to select the signals to be sent to the matching outputs. Here you'll also find dual-action toggle switches, for added versatility.

Finally, all signal paths are buffered, avoiding signal cuts when shorting a jack during patching or severe loading effects when driving many inputs. The high-end components provide exceptionally low noise and distortion, so Switch 4 can reliably process audio, control voltages and gates/triggers.

Notes: Clever four-channel utility module designed to make it easier to achieve perfect oscillator tracking and transpose CV signals. Also includes some neat quantising and portamento features.

The CalTrans solves issues encountered when playing tonal music with a modular system: tracking problems, curves unrelated to Volt per octave ratio, limited octave range, cumbersome transpose, ...

The CalTrans corrects and expands the range of troublesome VCOs and brings V/Oct tracking to anything that oscillates.

Besides calibration, the CalTrans offers live play features. Each channel can be quantized and any combination of them transposed jointly.

A pair of rotary encoders with detent allow an precise selection of octaves and semitones.

VCOs whose tracking doesn't go high enough to follow the leader will see their pitch repositioned in their highest possible octave so that the global harmony is unaffected.

You can add a pinch of portamento and glissando to each channel and save the whole in user presets.

Notes: Focused versatility seems an oxymoron when describing the features that led us to design the Mixwitch.

With only a pinch of mixing, inverting and controlled switching, we brew up a plethora of combinations and uses.

This is voltage processing magic!
The Mixwitch design comes from a frustration with attenuvertors (bipolar attenuators-inverters) whose off (neutral) position is difficult to retrieve, especially in live situations.

We went for a digitally-controlled analog path where polarity inversion would be at the touch of a button. So, the usefulness of attenuating/inverting can be realized by turning the pot down, swiftly pressing the inversion button and reopening the level. The zero level is where you expect it, with the pot full down.

Once we had a clean polarity control, we easily added a mute function offering the benefit of pre- adjusted pot settings ready to be activated at will.

The next step was to bring something extra, useful and creative. There are plenty of analog switches controlled by a clock; but arbitrarily selecting an input with a voltage is less known. Having both control capabilities combined with our specific mixer features creates a unique fusion: welcome to the Mixwitch !

Notes: Affordable logic processing in this appealing little module from Klavis. Two independent dual-input processors offer a total of 15 different functions, with different options on each section.

Notes: Strom+ is a strong, reliable and safe 4HP power solution for your modular system. The Strom+ power module includes many safety mechanisms to prevent your modules from being damaged. These include most importantly short-circuit protection, overvoltage protection and a replaceable main input fuse. See the full list below.

Strom+ also offers a current sensing technology that indicates current consumption of your system. LEDs of each rail will turn orange then red, when current consumption reaches or crosses the maximum load of that rail.

Strom+ has extremely low ripple, even under full load. This means better sound and stability for your modules.

Notes: An ultra-compact 10HP VC filter with bags of personality. Camber can be treated as a subtle, non-intrusive sound design tool, or something much more lively.

Camber is designed to be a fun, tactile filter with a small footprint. It's sound is neutral enough for basic filtering without a fuss, with a much more aggressive tone available using high resonance settings in three-pole mode.

Filter Core

The core of the filter is based on a state variable topology using 2164 VCAs and 1% tolerance integrating capacitors. Resonance and feedback control is provided by the fantastic circuit design originally by Neil Johnson "Voltage Controlled 3-Pole State Variable Filter" recently made available in Sound Semiconductor documentation.

Operation

Camber is switchable between low pass and high pass responses with one pole (6dB) and three pole (18dB) flavours of each. It has full CV control of both cutoff frequency and resonance amount. The input is DC-coupled allowing LFO and CV signals to be routed through the filter. The filter will also act as a simple oscillator producing a clean sinusoidal signal with the resonance control turned *almost fully clockwise, and no signal at the audio input. Dialling in the resonance so that it is just under the point of self-oscillation allows the filter to be "Pinged" by sending gate signals to the audio input. This is useful for tuned percussion sounds and FX.

Notes: Sindikat is made to be placed in the heart of every modular setup: copy, invert, attenuate, scale, get different polarity versions simultaneously of two pair of mixes, mix CV as well as audio (up to 8 sources in total), mute or switch to add desired source to a bigger unity mix, scale two separate mixes with chosen gain.. All circuits can preserve their independent use and/or be combined!

Details & use:

The module consists of circuits designed to group the most useful operations for signal mingling in modular synth setups -but in the more fun manner!

It is designed in the way that the circuits can function independently -be patched to the other modules- or to be combined inside the module at the same time!

On the top of the module there is a buffered multiple (the bi-color led is indicating signal input and its polarity) : Next to the input there are two outputs giving the exact copy of the incoming signal. On the third output you'll get the 'attenuverted" version of that signal which is controllable by the dedicated attenuator/inverter potentiometer.

This signal can be further added (or muted) via its switch, internally to a unity gain mixer situated on the bottom of the module via its SUMM OUT.

This mixer has its own 3 inputs who will accept CVs as well as audio signals with an output gain of 1/3.

Its bi-color led will indicate the polarity of the incoming signals.

In the center of the module there is a CV Processor consisting of two mixers each mixing two signals- in the way that:
The first one takes two signals (A and B) and outputs simultaneously the positive version of their mix (AB+ OUT) and the negative version (AB- OUT).
Their gain is scaled by the potentiometer: going on 1x in the middle position to 2x fully turned. (After middle position with a stronger signal and due to higher gain it will start to saturate producing an distortion-like effect)
Further, via their switch, those mixes also can be added to a unity gain mix (SUMM OUT) and therefore creating a larger mix.
You'll do that by choosing which polarity output you want to send to a summing mix.
In the middle position of the switch the signal is "off" so you can use this to mute/un-mute the signal in the unity mix. Also, even if it is in "off" position this only breaks the internal link to a unity mix but you can still use their distinctive outputs to send your positive and negative mixes elsewhere in your system.

Goes the same for the second one: C and D inputs giving positive (CD+) output result and negative (CD-) simultaneously , all with gain select and the switch choice for summ positive or negative (or none) to a bigger unity mix.

You can also choose to use those two circuits as a simple attenuators for ex. by patching only one signal so you'll get an attenuator and polarizer at once!

The module can process CV and audio as well in every circuit.

Therefore, by summing eventually all the signals to a final "SUMM OUT" output you can create up to 8 sources -in the module- large mix!

Made for more fun with a modular!

This module fits perfectly well with Modulaire Maritime "Decca" switch-based manual control module.

As these modules are developed from practicing recording in "one take" (same for a live performing), combining them you get an extended control over CVs, gates and audio going on in the system, allowing to switch- stop/mute, change polarity, introduce/mix more gates, drums,.. on the fly.

The Morphor Mixer - 5 Channel Amplifier is a flexible analogue mixer module that can find a home in every type of Eurorack setup.

Each of the five channels feature an attenuator knob and mute switch to allow for instant playability, for example in live settings.

Input signals can be AC or DC-coupled depending on your preferred setting.

The output stage also features an extra attenuation/gain stage that allows you to double the mixed signal. An additional master mute switch, clipping LED are nice-to-haves that complete this intuitive mixer module.

Notes: Babel is a tool for creating massive intermodulation, and a workhorse for analogue logic, depending on your use and interpretation of its function. It provides three inputs, which can be arbitrarily increased with the chainable expander (see below). For each of those inputs, Babel outputs the maximum value (ANY), the minimum value (ALL), and the balanced middle value (XSOME), which follows along the centre values of the input waves. What CENTER means is adjustable via knob and CV control. XSOME is particularly interesting, as it has the same general shape as a multiplication function, but with sharper edges. What this means it that Babel will create ring-mod like intermodulation-but with extra harmonics like those produced with a wavefolder, and with an arbitrary number of inputs, instead of just two.

When viewed as a logic module, Babel takes any group of truth values and tells you whether any of them are true (ANY, the equivalent of "or" with just two values), whether all of them are true (ALL, the equivalent of "and" with just two values), and whether some, but not all of them are true (XSOME, the equivalent of "xor" with just two values). Turn CENTER all the way to the right for 0-+5V logic, or leave it cantered for -5V-+5V logic-handy when your "logic" modules are really LFOs.

Notes: Unlock the potential of the Quad LFO with the LFO Phase Expander. Each expander gives you three outputs that duplicate the LFO with a fixed phase difference. The first ranges from 0- to 180-, the second from 90- to 270-, and the last from 180- to 360-. Along with the original output, this gives you four phases of modulation. These are easily tuneable to quadrature (all knobs centred), but also any arbitrary phase relationship. You can attach up to four expanders, one for each LFO, giving you up to sixteen modulation sources.

A multiphase LFO is extremely useful for building rhythmic modulations, particularly when paired with analogue logic, such as provided by Babel. Further, regardless of the waveform selected on the Quad LFO, the output of the Phase Expander is always a sine wave. This gives you the useful possibility of having three rhythmically related phases of an LFO synced to a clock signal.

Other than rhythmic modulations, the most common use of a multiphase sine LFO is in creating panning and crossfade controls that sound correct using only one or more VCAs. This is useful in panning sounds back and forth, rotating a sound in quadraphonic space, creating Shepard tones, etc.

Even when you don't have a specific need for exact phase relationships, a multiphase LFO gives you a convenient way to expand your palette of potential modulators, adding three related but distinct waves.

Notes: QMS does quadraphonic mid-side processing. Given a left front, right front, left back, and right back signal, it produces a mid and three side signals: left-right, front-back, and cross or diagonal. Then given these latter signals, it again produces left front, right front, left back, and right back. It has intelligent normals for passthrough, -6dB lowered mid and side signals to avoid clipping, and is equally useful for stereo mid-side when quadraphonic is not available.

Rather than merely creating an image of a sound, something that you passively look at, this module allows you to create a sonic texture that fills a room. Listening becomes active exploration instead of passive observation. Ambient music is all about space. But stereo can only provide a passive experience of this space. It's like there was a wonderful landscape glimpsed from a train window, and many experiments in stereo imaging attempt to reproduce the experience of being in that train, looking through that window. With quadrophonic sonic textures, you get to leave the train and run with the caribou.

Notes: The New Systems Instruments VCA module gives you four well-calibrated VCAs in 6HP. These VCAs use operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs) at their core, for true linear operation. However, unlike most OTA VCAs, the New Systems VCA is extremely low noise and distortion, coming in at < 0.2%, with ~0.05% typical.

There's no such thing as "transparent," particularly in synthesis, where the concept of an original signal that could be faithfully reproduced is often altogether absent. In a VCA in particular, a desirable envelope response can be even more important than accurate reproduction of the input at some fixed level.

The New Systems Instruments VCA has an extremely neutral, open sound. The envelope response sounds noticeably fast and accurate. If you want a dirtier VCA, stay tuned. New Systems are in the process of designing a different VCA with some control over signal and envelope linearity.

Notes: KR is based off of the concept of a guitar tonestack: you get a gnarly drive on the top and a super clean two-band shelving EQ with switchable midpoint after that. There are separate ins and outs, too, so if you want to EQ a thing and distort the other thing at the same time you can!

Kith Ruina's inspiration comes from the world of guitar amps. A drive into an EQ is an extremely common configuration for shaping guitar tone, and we find that it works extremely well for synths as well. A grungy drive into a pristine EQ gives excellent tone control, and with separate ins and outs for the two sections KR can be configured to fit into any patch you throw at it.

Notes: The Beautifier is a flexible OTA based filter, featuring a lowpass/bandpass switch and a selectable slope of 24db and 12dB. Two attenuated CV inputs for frequency cut-off and resonance. The filter self-oscillates at a given point and can be driven quite hard if you crank up the gain. All in all, a versatile analogue workhorse with a lot of character; from smooth and creamy to quite raw and screamy.

The Pearl Eurorack module is an adaption of (Recovery)'s pedal bearing the same name. It's a classic fuzz at a modular level, with a wide range of controls that can be manipulated via CV.

At the heart of the device is an all-analogue silicon design that adds a wall of fuzz to your signal while still remaining musical. The user interface includes intensity, tonality, compression, and output level. Pearl is an essential sound-shaping and destruction module.

Notes: The Octave Fuzz is SynthRotek's take on the classic 70's SuperFuzz circuit, made into a Eurorack module, which has improved on some aspects of the original as well, including an increased output.

Two distinct voices like the original: switchable between scooped midrange and massive midrange bump.

Aggressive: It will sound massive and in-your-face like no other circuit can. This is for sonic explorers and heavy music only. In short, it's not useful for EVERYTHING, but the things it DOES do it excels at. Sounds especially killer for keyboard and bass sounds.

OBEY is a dual-function module: one half envelope follower and one half attenuverter / offset generator.

Envelope Follower:
The OBEY takes an audio or CV signal and uses it to trigger an envelope or gate for use in a Eurorack system. It is designed to work with a wide variety of input levels: plug a Eurorack module, passive microphone, piezo, guitar, drum machine, Game Boy into your Eurorack system.

Attenuverter / Offset Generator:

Notes: DRONX is a special mixer designed especially for the DRONE38 module; if has 6 input channels (so you can connect two DRONE38 modules) and offers some sound processing capabilities: A tone control with bass and treble control, a distortion, and finally a dual delay with different algorithms. Two insert points allow to add up to two more audio effects to the internal signal chain. Together with the DRONE38 module(s) you get a quite nice drone synth for dense, dark soundscapes.

Supplier notes:
The MULTIFX module offers 15 different stereo audio FX programs, a wide variety from common FX like reverb and delay to unique effects like Ring Crusher or Glitch delay. Also a nice shimmer effect is onboard.

Each program has 3 parameters that can be adjusted and additionally be CV-controlled.

With a switch the sample rate can be reduced to half the normal rate, resulting in doubling the effect times (with reverb, delay...) and introducing a nice portion of aliasing.

It is based on the FV-1 DSP chip that is well-known from other FX-modules in the Eurorack world; the MULTIFX module offers the 7 factory programs of the chip plus 8 new and unique ones created by Tangible Waves.
