Envelope follower/envelope generator/external/expander synth module
Notes: The Percussion Interface (PI) and PI Expander are a pair of Eurorack modules that generate gates and envelopes from acoustic drums, samplers, drum machines, and virtually any audio source.

Converting microphone, instrument, line and modular signals into CV and clock/gate signals, the PI and PI Expander are suited for synchronizing sequencers or other modules to the rhythm of an audio track or live percussion. The modules can simultaneously be used as a pre-amp for microphones or line-level signals, while generating inverted envelopes useful for side-chaining. The PI module contains all the core functionality and can be used without the Expander to conserve space. The Expander requires the main PI modules and adds three gain stage options, a modular-level audio output jack, a 1/4" (6.35mm) input jack, and envelope attenuation capabilities. The two modules are only sold together, they are not available separately.

Notes: Got a gate that's gonna make you late? Run it through the Gate_Mod! Got a trigger comin' sooner than you figger'd? Run it through the Gate_Mod!!

Let's face it, couldn't we ALL use a little more length?

This Tiny (yet powerful) Module allows you to manipulate your gate length and delay your event triggers with ease and minimal impact on your HP.

Take an incoming Signal above ~1.1V (OpAmp Comparators on the Inputs make very forgiving Clock Inputs) and shrink it down to 5MS or lengthen it up to 5 Seconds.

That Gate will appear at the Gate Out.

When the Gate is Over a 10MS Trigger will turn on at the Delay Out.

Set the length of the Gate with the Time Potentiometer OR with the CV Input.

The switches allow you to choose between Interrupt OR Dividing Behavior (1 for each channel).

If you have Interrupt selected, when Clock In receives a new Clock Pulse the time will reset, essentially lengthening your Gate Out and Delay Out to the Time you have set + the time that has already elapsed.

So Gate will never go Low and Delay will never go High if you have a Time set longer than the interval between Clock Pulses (Useful if you have staggered, irregular or random Clocks).

When Dividing is selected Clock In will Ignore new Clock Pulses until it has finished the current cycle it's running.

The Delay 1 Out is Normalled via the Jack switch of the Clock 2 Input for all kinds of Timing madness!

Notes: The Animodule M1xXOR is the Jon Snow of Animodule's product lineup. Described as a "bastard progeny" and "unholy union" by its creators, the module is an amalgamation of the V9a, VCSS, XXX_OR, and MixMan modules. Each of the module's channels, as well as the mixer, can be used independently of the sequencer, enabling a variety of self-contained and inter-module uses. When used independently for self-contained functionality, the module can function as a 4-channel DC-coupled mixer or as 4 individual channels of gated attenuation.

How It Works:
-Signal goes in to Channel Input (it's DC connected so you can use Audio OR CV).
-Signal is attenuated via Channel Attenuator.
-Signal is allowed to pass through to Individual Channel Output AND Mixer Output IF Gate Input is High OR Switch is depressed.

Sequencer:
-Clock Pulse High in to Clock Input Moves Sequence forward 1 Step.
-The Channel that the step is On will be open
-CV can be used to control the Sequencer via the CV Input.
-There is a resolution of 5 steps (4 channels and a 0 step allowing for all channels to be cleared from the Sequencer).
-There is an attenuator and offset to help properly scale and position your CV Input.
-CV Input is expecting 0V to +5V, but with the Attenuator and Offset will easily work with -/+5V.
-Clock and CV maybe used in tandem resulting in some mind melting rhythms!
-In that case the Clock will step forward 1 step from it's current position (unless it's on step 4 in which case it will roll over to step 1)
-The Clock used in conjunction with the CV will bitshift the sequence to the left, incrementing the static position of the step counter by 1 (wrapping around to step 1 after step 4).
-Fer' Instance, 2 Clock counts and CV is on 0. Step will be on Channel 2
-Gate High in to Reset will reset Clock counter to step 1 OR if Clock Input is being used in conjunction with the CV Input the reset will clear the Clock Counter and return the step to where the CV indicates it should be without any BitShifting

*Gate Input / Switches in conjunction with Sequencer:
-The Sequencer and the Gate Input / Switches combine in a XOR gate. If one is High and the other is not, that channel will be open. If BOTH are High, that channel will be closed.

Despite the lengthy description, the M1xXOR is very intuitive (and unbelievably Fun!) to use.
Each Channel (and the Mixer) May be used independently of the Sequencer.
So if you're not in the mood for Rhythmic Insanity You still have a gateable 4 Channel DC-Coupled Mixer AND/OR 4 independent and gateable channels of Attenuation.
You will NEVER just have it filling space in your cabinet.
You will find a use for it in EVERY patch!

All this in 8HP with a depth of 33mm (from rear of Front Panel).

Notes: The STD, or Syncopated Timing Disrupter is a dual tap tempo clock with CV control for clock division and multiplication. If one wishes to synchronize the STD with other clocked gear, there is also a Gate input. The CV inputs can shift the clock to being upto 8x faster or /8 to be slower. This function is voltage controllable to turn the STD into a nonstop groove machine. Included in this are three logic functions that output gates depending on how the two channels are interacting. There is OR, ADD, and XOR logic functions.

Latch the Ch1 - Ch2 switch and the Output of Channel 1 is normalled to the jack Switch of Channel 2.
You can still control the Multiplications / Divisions of each channel Independently!

Send your CV to the CV In. As the Voltage increases the sequence steps forward. As the voltage decreases the sequence steps back.
Scale and adjust your input voltage to taste with the Onboard Attenuator and Offset.

Control the Output CV with an individual Potentiometer for each step.

When a step changes, a 10MS trigger is sent to it's corresponding switch. If the latching switch is depressed it allows the trigger to pass to the Trigger Out.

There is a switch per step for slew (portamento/slide).
and a Potentiometer to control the Slew Amount.
There is also an input to allow gated control of when the slew turns on and off which will work in conjunction with the switches.

This module is looking for 0V to +5V. The Offset is 0V to +5V.

To allow for chaining of the V9a and rests, 0V will put you under the sequencer range and +5V will put you over the sequencer range.
When the sequence drops below step 1 or over step 9, 0V will be sent to the CV Out and No Trigger will be sent to the Trig Out.
When step 1 or 9 is activated a trigger will be sent to the Trig buss.

Notes: Module A-106-6 is a multimode filter that is based on the filter circuit of the Oberheim Xpander. The module features 15 different filter types with 8 filters available simultaneously.

The toggle switch Filter Group is used to switch between 2 filter groups. These filter types are available:

2L (12 dB low pass)

The module features voltage controlled resonance. For filter group 2 (2L, 4L, 2B ...) even self oscillation is possible. All standard VCF controls are available: manual filter frequency control Frq, one control voltage input with attenuator (FCV2)and one without attenuator (FCV1, ~ 1 V/octave). In addition voltage controlled resonance with manual control (Q) and a CV input with attenuator (QCV) are available. The circuit is based on a 24dB lowpass filter. The outputs of the four internal filter stages (i.e. the 6, 12, 18 and 24dB outputs) are mixed together with different levels and polarities to obtain 15 different filters. Because of this special circuit the outputs have slightly different levels and noise floor. This is caused by the different internal amplifications and numbers of stages that are required to generate the filter in question. If e.g. a filter is derived by one stage only (e.g. the 6 dB, 12dB, 18dB and 24dB low pass) the noise floor is smaller compared to a filter that is derived by a combination of all four filter stages. The module generates a distorted audio signal if the level control is set to about 50% (i.e. center position) or more with A-100 standard signals like VCOs.

Signal generator module
Notes: Module A-118-2 generates the signals white noise, colored noise, continuous random voltage and stepped random voltage.

The noise signal is generated 100% analog by amplification of the noise of a transistor. White and colored noise are usually used as audio sources. The random voltages are normally used as control voltages (e.g. for filter frequency or any other voltage controlled parameter).

The A-118-2 gives you the ability to mix the relative amounts of Red and Blue noise (low/high frequency component) in the colored noise output.

For the continuous random voltage the rate of change (Rate) and amplitude (Level) of the random voltage can be adjusted. The continuous random voltage is used as source for the S&H/T&H unit. The type of operation can be set to S&H (sample and hold) or T&H (track and hold). When T&H is chosen the output signal follows the input signal as long as the Clock input is "high". As soon as the clock signal changes to "low" the last voltage is stored. When S&H is chosen the input signal is sampled at the rising edge of the Clock signal. For the Clock signal a "digital" signal (e.g. Clock, Gate, rectangle output of an LFO) is required. Dual color LEDs are used to indicates the continuous and stepped random voltages.

Controls:
Blue: share of the high frequencies in the the colored noise output
Red: share of the low frequencies in the the colored noise output
Rate: rate of change of the continuous random voltage
Level: amplitude of the continuous random voltage
TH/SH: switches between T&H und S&H

Inputs and outputs:
RND: continuous random voltage output (with LED display)
TH/SH: stepped random voltage output (with LED display)
Clk: Clock input of the S&H/T&H unit
C Noise: colored noise output
W Noise: white noise output

Important notes:
After power on it takes a few minutes until the two noise signals and the random signals are generated. The module is not faulty when after power on the signals do not appear immediately!

The S&H/T&H function is realized by pure analog circuitry (electronic switch followed by a holding capacitor and buffer). Consequently the output voltage drifts a bit in the holding state because the capacitor is discharged by parasitic resistors. The drift depends also upon environmental conditions like humidity or temperature.

The level of the random voltage changes with the settings of the Blue and Red controls. Especially the Red control affects the random voltage level (which is derived by low pass filtering from the colored noise signal) because the Red control changes the share of the low frequencies in the colored noise signal. The effect of the Blue control is much smaller because it changes the share of the high frequencies in the colored noise signal which are filtered out by the low pass of the random circuitry.

Notes: Module A-119 (External Input / Envelope Follower) is designed to allow external audio signals to be integrated into the System A-100. It comprises a pre-amp, envelope follower, and comparator.

The pre-amp has two inputs: an unbalanced input for line level signals, with a gain factor of from 0 to 20, and a balanced input with a gain factor of from 0 to 500, for insertion of low level signals, for instance from a microphone or electric guitar. The Envelope Follower reads the signal level of the input, and puts out a proportional voltage as an envelope at its own output. The comparator generates a gate signal whenever the input goes above an adjustable trigger threshold. Three LEDs help you keep track of overload, the envelope, and the gate signal.

The module was designed primarily to derive an envelope and gate signal from the incoming audio signal. The built-in preamp is not "high-end" and shows - depending upon the position of the gain control - a reduction of higher frequencies in the frequency response. It is possible to improve the frequency response by replacing IC1 (the upper of the two integrated circuits) by a more sophisticated circuit. For example the LME49740 can be used. It's no longer in production but available e.g. via Ebay.

Apart from this an incoming audio signal with sufficient level can be patched directly to the audio input of A-100 modules (e.g. filters), i.e. without the detour via the A-119. In this case the A-119 functions only as envelope and gate generator and the audio output of the A-119 remains unused.

Controls, In/Outputs and Functions of each VCA:

The available amplification range is 0...1, the maximal amplification is 1 (i.e. it "clips" and remains at 1 even if the control voltage goes beyond the value that corresponds to amplification 1)

Functions of the voltage controlled mixers:

two outputs ("Selected" and "All")

Selected output: the ouput if a VCA is removed from this sum signal when a plug is inserted into the corresponding VCA output.

All output: sum of all VCA outputs, regardless of inserted plugs into the VCA outputs

The maximal amplification is about 0.6 to avoid clipping at the mixer outputs (otherwise the outputs may distort with 15Vpp signals at each signal input and full amplifications)

Special functions of the voltage controlled mixer (selectable by internal jumpers)

Dual Stereo VCA: In this case the control unit of VCA1 (L1 + CV1) affects also VCA3 and the control unit of VCA2 (L2 + CV2) affects also VCA4. The control units of VCA3 (L3 + CV3) and VCA4 (L4 +CV4) are out of operation.

Quad VCA: In this case the control unit of VCA1 (L1 + CV1) affects all four VCAs. The control units of VCA2, VCA3 and VCA4 are out of operation. In this mode the module has the same function as module A-132-2. That's why module A-132-2 will be discontinued.

Normalling of the signal inputs: by means of internal jumpers signal input 1 can be normalled to signal input 2, signal input 2 to signal input 3 and signal input 3 to signal input In 4. That way the same input signal can be distributed to four different channels by means of control voltages (e.g. quadrophonic distribution of audio signals). Suitable control voltage sources are e.g. A-144 (Morphing Controller) or A-143-9 (Quadrature LFO).

Notes: Module A-174-4 modules outputs three control voltages generated by a spring-loaded X/Y cross potentiometer (so-called joy stick) and a Gate signal. The control voltages for X and Y are controlled by the X and Y position of the joystick in the usual way. The third control voltage Z is controlled by the rotation of the spring-loaded joystick knob. The Gate signal is generated by a button at the center/top of the joystick knob.

For each control voltage the non-inverted signal (X, Y, Z) as well as the inverted signal with adjustable offset (-X+XO, -Y+YO, -Z+ZO) are available. The generic joystick control voltages are bipolar, i.e. they range from typ. -5V (lowest position) via 0V (center position) to typ. +5V (highest position). The "Overlap" switches can be used to add a fixed offset voltage of typ. +5V to the non-inverting output in question so that the output voltage range changes to typ. 0...+10V (rather than -5...+5V). That's necessary if e.g. a VCA has to be controlled, which requires a pure positive control voltage range. The switches are named "overlap" because they allow the overlapping of the non-inverting CV output (X, Y, Z) with the inverting output (-X+XO, -Y+YO, -Z+ZO) for crossfading applications. With the overlap switch "on" and appropriate setting of the offset control it's possible to obtain a control voltage range of 0...+10V for the non-inverting output and +10V...0V (i.e. same range but opposite direction) for the inverting output.

The offset voltages which are added to the inverting outputs can be adjusted by means of three small potentiometers. That way different kinds of control voltage ranges are possible, e.g.
-5V ... +5V for the non-inverting output and +5V ... -5V for the inverting output ( Overlap = off, Offset = 0)
0 ... +10V for the non-inverting output and +10V ... 0V for the inverting output ( Overlap = on, Offset = max)
-5V ... +5V for the non-inverting output and +10V ... 0V for the inverting output ( Overlap = off, Offset = max)
0 ... +10V for the non-inverting output and +5V ... -5V for the inverting output ( Overlap = on, Offset = 0)
On top of this the four quadrant voltages Q1, Q2, Q3 and Q4 are available. A quadrant voltage becomes positive when the joystick is positioned in the quadrant in question.
Each CV output is equipped with an LED that displays the present voltage.

Because of the construction height of the joystick (about 7 cm) the module cannot be installed into the cases A-100P6, A-100P9, A-100PMS6, A-100PMS9 and A-100PMS12 during transportation as the depth of the case cover is not sufficient. Into the base cases A-100PB and A-100PMB as well as in all other cases without cover the module can be installed without problems.

CV1-CV4 can route the external 0-5V CV signals to any of the above parameters including LFOs. Also negative amounts are processed.

LIN.FM This is a true analog dedicated CV FM modulation input for the bass drum VCO. It only works linear-wise and does not offer musical semitones across the CV scale.

ACC This is a CV input for the kick drum accent / velocity. This input may also trigger the kick drum dynamically if the ACC trigger mode is set and the sequencer is able to generate dynamic pulses.

LFO The ModBase 09 has 2 LFOs that work on the pitch of the bass drum. The LFO always starts syncronous to the gate trigger.

The wave forms are: saw up, saw down, sine+/-, triangle+/-, rectangle+/- and portions of it.

MIDI The midi controllers of this module are identical to the Alpha Base/XBASE999/MBase11. All parameters including LFOs can be remotely controlled by Midi CCs.

Bus Env Is the programmable level of the audio out signal from the bus on the back mixed to the Kick Drum VCA envelope. Works with experimental Jayemsonic modules.

Joranalogue Fold 6 Multi-Topology Wavefolder Module

Wavefolder module
Notes: Often considered to be the opposite of filters within a modular system, wavefolders are designed to fold a signal over itself multiple times. This generates additional harmonics, resulting in rich timbres.

While there is a bewildering array of filter types within the synthesiser world, most wavefolders fall within only a few categories. Diode wavefolders in particular come in just two variants: series and parallel circuit topologies. Choosing a specific folder also means being limited to specific sounds and capabilities.

For the first time, Fold 6 puts forward a 6-stage hybrid series/parallel topology, yielding a greater sonic palette than ever in just 4 HP. Having both main (series) and alternate (parallel) outputs means a single module now gives access to just about all wavefolding tones imaginable.

To take things even further, an integrated symmetrical soft clipper limits the output signals to approximately 10 Vpp, keeping the amplitude within typical Eurorack levels and making it easier to create overdriven sounds at high fold ratios. This clipping stage can be driven continuously using the shape parameter, smoothly transforming the folded waveforms into pulse waves for even more harmonic content.

Two signal inputs are included, to mix audio signals or add in a DC voltage for asymmetric folding. The symmetry can also be manually controlled using the dedicated knob. Of course, both fold and shape parameters feature voltage control, to enable continuous timbral modulation.

Moving beyond simple signal processing, Fold 6 also lends itself perfectly for feedback patching, CV folding or frequency multiplication; its modest size belies the sonic capabilities within.

Modulation hub for Eurorack synthesisers
Notes: Modulation is the core concept of modular synthesis: parameters changing over time, adding movement and musical interest to what would otherwise be merely static sounds. Being able to control the amplitude of signals throughout a patch is therefore essential, and one can never have too many voltage controlled amplifiers (VCAs).

Designed as a fully-featured modulation hub for Eurorack synthesisers, Morph 4 takes the basic concept of the multi-VCA module to the next level.

Four linear amplitude modulators are controlled by a master 'morph' parameter. The response of each modulator to this parameter is completely variable, both manually and under voltage control, and can be overridden if desired. Each response is triangular, with the 'position' parameter setting the maximum point along the morph axis, while 'span' determines the width of the triangle's base.

In addition to separate signal inputs and outputs, a variety of combined outputs is available as well: A+B, C+D, add (unity gain) and averaging mixes, and instantaneous minimum and maximum. Input normalisation makes it easy to send the same signal to multiple modulators, while output and modulator response LEDs provide essential visual feedback.

The combination of master control, fully flexible modulators and multiple combined outputs creates a module truly embodying the spirit of 'patch programmable' modular synthesis. Use Morph 4 as a voltage controlled mixer, dual crossfader, dual panner, interpolating scanner, interpolating distributor, quad VCA, quadraphonic controller, slope modifier, rectifier, complex waveshaper or something in between any of those- the choice is yours.
