Notes: With the ADDAC401 Envelope Follower you'll be able to use the volume of any sound source to control your synthesis.

Voltage controlled low pass filter module
Notes: The AION Modular 904A Low Pass filter is an Eurorack clone of the classic Moog Modular Low Pass filter (should not be confused with the Mini Moog Low Pass filter).

The 904A Low Pass filter attenuates frequencies above the Fixed Control Voltage (cutoff frequency) point at a rate of 24dB per octave. The cutoff frequency is voltage controlled through the three control inputs at the bottom of the module (1v per octave).

The Regeneration knob (resonance) varies the amount of internal feedback, creating a resonant peak at the cutoff frequency.
The Fixed Controlled Voltage knob adjustes frequency over 12 octaves span (1v per octave).

Filter coupler module
Notes: The AION Modular 904C Filter Coupler is an Eurorack clone of the classic Moog Modular 904C.

The 904C Filter Coupler connects the 904A Lowpass and the 904B Highpass together to produce a Bandpass or a Band Reject filter response.

Bandwidth can be extended to three octaves and Center Frequency ranges from 5Hz to 20KHz. Both can be controlled manually or via control voltage.

The 904C provides a wide variety of signal processing and we strongly encourage experimentation but we advise to start with the following settings:

The 904A and the 904B are required to use the 904C.

Reverberation module
Notes: When a dynamically varying signal is applied to the input of the 905, the output will consist of a series of closely spaced echoes, the subjective effect of which is similar to that of reverberation of sound. If a small amount of "echo signal" is mixed with a larger amount of "direct signal" (Reverberation Control set slightly clockwise), the effect of a typical concert hall is obtained. If the echo signal only is passed (Reverberation Control is set fully clockwise), an exaggerated echo suggesting a cave is obtained. The relative amount of echo signal and direct signal can be continuously changed from 100% direct signal to 100% echo signal.

Envelope follower module
Notes: The Envelope Follower produces two functions which can be used separately or in conjunction. The follower circuit Signal Input presents a control voltage output (DC) proportional to the average amplitude of the AC input signal. The second function, a Schmitt trigger, generates a V-trigger above a threshold voltage (comparator), when a slowly varying or DC voltage is introduced at the control input jack. The normalling of the control input of the follower circuit to the control input of the Schmitt trigger circuit allows both control voltage and trigger to be generated from a single variable source.

Notes: Really clever noise-based oscillator from AJH. Drones, sweeps and bleeps aplenty, ranging from tamed to out-of-control filth. Also doubles up as a more conventional ring mod and distortion module.

Supplier's notes:
This 14HP wide module is a voltage controlled noise based oscillator, or noisillator for short. It generates 1/f noise and this is then sent through a feedback loop which allows the noise to be "tuned" to varying degrees depending on the settings of the frequency and resonance controls, or incoming frequency or resonance CV's. The tuned circuit can be FM modulated too, for some thunderous sweeping sounds. We have bright and dark outputs, which are pre and post filter respectively. The Bright output will always have a degree of noise present in the signal, whereas the Dark output can be tuned noise only when 4 pole resonance is selected. We also have an external Sync input, which will reset the resonant waveform, and we also have an Audio input, so that an external signal can be mixed into the resonant loop. Combinations of external waveforms to these two inputs can create some massive drone sounds, or sweeping sync sounds.

There is also an XOR ring modulator, which can be used as a module in its own right too. Lastly, we have an XOR amplifier, which is another independant circuit that can be used to add noise and distortion to any audio signal.

Notes: Truly unique one from AJH, based on the sound of NASA's Apollo voice transmissions. Think outside the box and process drums and synths through this thing. Freaky. May or may not allow you to communicate with real astronauts.

Supplier's notes:
Here's a bit of fun for all fans of space missions from the previous century! This module is designed to re-create the ground to space and space to ground transissions from the Apollo era.

To be "Mission Control Houston" the Quindar PTT (push to talk) button adds a short 2,525Hz Qindar tone to the start of the transission, then at the end of the message the PTT button or switch is released and a short 2,475Hz Quindar tone is added to the audio. The bandwidth is slightly reduced in this mode.

For "Astronaut comms" we press the Capsule PTT switch, which allows us to add coloured noise, distortion, bandwidth reduction and either hum or LGM (Little green men space tone) noise to the audio signal. A deep space electret condenser mic is supplied and an be used with the MIC input.

Obviously the Lunar Module can also be used to add noise, hum, distortion, bandwidth reduction and LGM noise tone to any modular level audio too, and if the mic is left attached theremin like sounds can be added too with careful loudspeaker feedback.

Notes: AJH Synth have had quite a few requests for a variant of MiniMod contour generator with Release added to the envelope so that it is full ADSR but still with the characteristics of the Model D - so this is what they have done!

The DH-ADSR is exactly the same circuit as the original Model D envelope and therefore features the same contour shape and retrigger behaviour, but with the addition of a release control. However, they have also added a pulse delay and pulse stretch circuit, along with a re-trigger facility (both of these can be switched out of circuit so that the envelope is a simple ADSR unit).

The addition of pulse stretching and retrigger makes it into an LFO module and it can perform in a similar way to the EMS Synthi A and VCS3 Trapezoid generator, with a variable delay between each trigger and a variable "on" time - however it can also have full ADSR envelope on each retrigger too!

Notable Features:

- PREDELAY - This control determines how long (up to 10 seconds) the start of the envelope is held off, after a gate is received. This ability to delay the onset of the envelope is especially useful when used in conjunction with a standard ADSR: With both envelopes receiving the gate simultaneously complex envelopes can be produced as the DH-ADSR only starts running through its stages after the standard ADSR has completed. Once their outputs are mixed together in a mixer a single evolving envelope with multiple stages is produced!

- Use of the bipolar mixer found in the MINIMOD CV MIX-OFFSET-VCA module can enhance this technique even further, with more precise control over the polarity/offset of the envelope mix possible. Using the VCA of this module could allow for external modulation over either/both of the signals. It goes on...

- HOLD - When in Del-Hold mode (switch down) the HOLD control determines the gate length applied to the envelope, and thus controlling its length/overall shape. When the switch is up, normal ADSR action is produced.

- RETRIG - In this mode the DH-ADSR becomes an LFO, which can mimic the "Trapezoid" function of the vintage EMS designs. HOLD controls the length of the trapezoid shape, and PREDELAY allows for adjustable gaps between each repeat of the shape produced.

Dual LFO with waveshaping, sync input & DC-coupled VCA - dark edition
Notes: This has two LFOs, each with variable waveshape from Saw to Triangle to Ramp waveforms, or variable Pulse width on the Square wave output. LFO 1 has the addition of a low range and a Sync input. The nominal maximum frequency of the LFOs when in Triangle shape is 20Hz, but under certain combinations of settings they will go much higher, well into audio range.

Also included is a DC coupled VCA, the input of the VCA is normalised to the output of LFO 2, so a 0 to +5V input to the VCA CV input gives control of the LFO waveform amplitude. It can also be used as a stand alone VCA.

This module is very useful for controllers such as the Waldorf KB37 where the modulation wheel gives out 0 to +5V, this can be routed to the VCA CV module so the level of the modulation waveform can be easily controlled. This makes it very easy to add VCO vibrato or filter 'wah' with control of modulation amount from the modulation wheel or other controller.

Precision voltages module - dark edition
Notes: Sometimes real precision is required with pitch control voltages - this module features a super accurate "Cal" output, which is accurate to <1mV over 20V, translates to one cent over 20 octaves! It is ideal for calibrating the scaling of VCO's, indeed we have been using our own version of this circuit to calibrate our own MiniMod VCO's for the last three years.

As well as being a precision voltage source it is also a very accurate voltage adder, it has two channels (A & B) and both full volts (octaves) or 1/12th volt increments (notes) can be either added to or subtracted from the incoming signal. Perfect for adding a voltage offset to the output of a sequencer or it can be used to add switchable octaves to a VCO which only has course and fine tunes controls.

It also has a "mix" output, which allows either A channel on its own, or with the three way toggle switch channel B can either be added to, or subtracted from channel B, and this is in addition to the addition and subtraction per channel mentioned earlier.

Sample & Hold, Track & Hold, Gated Slew, Clock & Noise generator - silver, 12HP
Notes: A real powerhouse module that takes up only 12 HP of rack space. It can generate random and pseudo random control voltages, staircase waveforms, deliberate aliasing of audio signals, portamento type effects, adjustable audio range noise and has many other uses too.

It can be switched between Sample & Hold or Track & Hold modes, and the unique "Restrict" control affects the way the hold output changes with respect to the current input level and previously held output level. With the control fully off the unit behaves just like any other S/H, but at fully clockwise the output is restricted to move by only a small amount after each new sample. The output will still have the same range as the input, but will need more hold commands to get there. This versatile Sample and Hold circuit was designed by Tony Allgood, and is built under licence from Oakley Sound.

The Sample Hold & Slew module also includes a very well featured Slew generator, which includes a Gated Slew function. It can be used independently or chained with the S&H module. Slew mode can be switched between Linear or Exponential Slew types. There is a Gate input, so that the Slew on/off can be switched using an External CV (Gated Slew), and also the Slew control logic can be reversed by a toggle switch that doubles as a manual Slew on/off switch. In addition, it has slew up only, slew down only or slew up and down modes, which are selected with a three-way toggle switch. An indicator LED lights when Slew is active

There is also an inbuilt analogue Noise generator, which is normalised to the input of the Sample and Hold section, and there are both regular and clipped Noise outputs - the Clipped Noise is particularly useful with the sample and hold section, as it is weighted to produce higher random voltages. Both Noise outputs are fed through an internal "Noise Colour" control - at centre position it allows the noise through unfiltered, turning the control anti-clockwise introduces low pass filtering of the Noise, and rotating it clockwise introduces high pass filtering. The Noise source itself is based on an analogue band gap shunt regulator configured in avalanche mode, and it generates white noise with a gradual roll off above 8kHz. It is a little "grainier" in character than the noise from our MiniMod Glide & Noise module (which uses a reverse biased transistor as a noise source), so is a useful compliment to this module as it does not generate exactly the same sounding Noise

Lastly, it includes a wide range clock generator with a rate LED. The range is from one cycle every thirty seconds to around 2 kHz and the clock output is normalised to the Clock Input of the S&H section. It also has a Clock Out jack so that it can be externally patched to other Eurorack modules.

Analogue waveform animator & dual channel device - black, 14HP
Notes: The WaveSwarm is a waveform animator and all analogue dual channel device.

Each channel simulates up to six VCO's beating in unison with a different beat frequency between each animation. The fixed beat frequencies are generated by twelve onboard LFO's, and the front panel pots control the level of each of the six animators, along with the level of the dry signal to the final mix. In addition to independent channel inputs and outputs it also has an A+B output, which sums the outputs of the two channels, creating an effect similar to twelve VCO's in unison! This is possible because channel B uses slightly different beat frequencies to channel A, they are not identical.

The input waveform can be saw, triangle, sine or wavetable/complex waveforms, in fact most waveforms with the exception of square or PWM waves will give some form of animation.

A soft clip circuit is built in so that at higher signal levels the signal magnitude is limited by rounding the top and bottom of the waveforms, thus slightly softening the sound. There are soft clip LED indicators for both channels.

It can produce huge, fat drones or supersaw type waveforms from a single sawtooth or triangle wave input.

Notes: The RS-110N is a resonant analog multimode filter with excellent sound, resonance and four simultaneously available filter types. An insert function in the feedback loop allows you to insert other audio processors.

The module has two audio inputs, each with a level control. "unity gain" is reached at position 4, beyond this the signal will be overdriven at the filter input. The cutoff frequency can be set manually in a range of 30Hz to over 15kHz, with additional CVs even up to 50kHz. Separate audio outputs for the four filter types are available: 24dB low pass, 24dB high pass, 12dB band pass and 12dB notch. Resonance goes up to self-oscillation and besides that it offers an unique feature: the socket Res-Out and Res-In act like an insert i.e. they allow you to process the audio signal in the feedback loop by other audio processors like filters, distortions, delays, frequency shifters etc. You get very wicked results when you connect the notch output with the resonance input. It sounds very metallic and the filter behavoiur gets more aggressive. Generally it is fun to cross-connect the separate outputs with the CV and audio inputs and to use the filter in a modular way.

Notes: The RS-35N contains three circuits for extracting control voltages from an audio signal: frequency-to-voltage generator, level-to-voltage generator and a trigger generator. It has a new faceplate with elongated holes.

Frequency-to-voltage (FREQ-V): This circuit of the RS-35 circuitry is also known as "pitch-to-voltage converter". It analyzes an audio signal and creates a frequency dependent control voltage. The higher the frequency the higher the voltage is. the input accepts signals of ±10V. The V-Slew control can smoothen abrupt changes in the output signal and thus create a portamento up to 2 seconds length.

The "V-range" switch determines the voltage range at the output. In the 1V/oct mode it will generate a control voltage with !V/osctave characteristic and a range of -4V to 3V. In VARY mode the "vary depth" control sets the onversion range from 0V to 0.5V/oct. In this mode the voltage range at the output is -10V to 6V.

The switch "F-Range"sets frequency range to be analyzed. "kHz" converts frequencies from 20Hz to 1,2kHz with a accuracy better than 1%. "10kHz" converts frequencies from "100Hz to 10kHz with an accuracy better than 2%.

HELD-V: Without an input signal the voltage will not drop back to zero but instead it will be held until the next trigger is generated by the according section (see below). Accuracy is 5% in low bass (20Hz to 100 Hz) and 1% in 100Hz - 1.2Hz range. In the 10kHz mode of the FREQ-V circuit the accuracy is constantly 2% over the whole 10kHz range.

Level to voltage (LEVEL-V): This unit is commonly known as "envelope follower". It produces a control voltage depending on the amplitude of the audio signal. A LED shows activity. Abrupt steps in the signal can be smoothened with the LV-SLEW contol (max. 1s). LV-LEVEL controls the output level from 0V to 10V.

TRIGGER: A 5V pulse wave is generated from the audio signal in the range between 1Hz and 10kHz. The circuit´s sensitivity is adjusted with the TRIG-SENSE control.

Notes: The RS-95N oscillator is a premium, british sounding VCO with waveshaping possiblities. It has a new front panel design with elongated holes.

It is based on the RS-90 but has more features, predominantly a very special sine wave.

The RS-95N presented here is technically identical but instead a normal frequency control it features a gorgeous, lockable potentiometer with ten turns. This allows precise fine tune control and adds the look of an EMS synthesiser to the VCO.

The module has three audio outputs: pulse, triangle and sine.

The upper shape control affects the pulse width. The lower shape control not only morphs from a falling sawtooth over triangle to a rising saw (or ramp) but simultaneously alters the sine wave and produces a kind of smoothed, softer sawtooth. Additionally the saw/sine output is a CV-INPUT for the symmetry of the sine. Very extraordinary feature that all are voltage controllable.

The oscillator sync is "soft" and not only reacts to square waves but works with all waveforms.

The frequency control has three switchable modes:

STD (standard) with a range of two octaves.
2 is two octaves lower than STD.
WIDE mode gives a range from 0.3 Hz - 17kHz and thus allows use of the RS-95 as VC-LFO with waveshaping options!
The "vary" control not only attenuates but also can amplify the pitch CV. It controls linearly from 0V over 1V/oct to 0.4 V/oct.

As lovers of wave shapers, we refined the Crossfold to produce timbres and patches that we were always seeking, patches that were either not possible, or required many more modules to accomplish before the Crossfold.

The Crossfold utilizes high quality op amps, multiple high quality VCA chips, and a small army of resistors and diodes to create a unique, hi fidelity wavefolder capable of producing sounds yet unheard of!

The fold and range controls with voltage control provide the main intensity level, with the range control setting the scope of the fold control, traveling from single folds, up to eight, further into clipping, which compresses and offsets the folds both into the positive and negative range. A built-in output limiter allows you to explore clipping effects without large volume spikes, while still allowing for a musical dynamic range.

The output stage has 3 modes selectable by a switch on the front panel: a voltage-controlled dry/wet of the input crossfader (great for balancing fundamental tones Vs added harmonics), wet vs. input 1 (great for mixing signals for the wet signal while maintaining a single dry signal), or as a final VCA to complete a voice or provide amplitude modulation of the output.

Notes: Hex mix VCA is a compact six channel VCA with an unique response curve range from logarythmic to linear and to exponential using a pot.

All outputs are routed to output six to act as a mixer, with a normalization of each one to remove each VCA from the Mix.

CV controlled spring reverb - 8HP
Notes: Electronically generated audio will usually sound starkly different to acoustically generated sound. This is more-often-than-not a desirable thing, but there are times when you might want to bring the "depth" of an acoustic environment back into your mix. The obvious difference between acoustic and synthesised sounds is that acoustic instruments have resonators, and exist in reverberant spaces. One way to add depth to an electronic sound is to somehow simulate the characteristics of a space, and mix this with the original signal.

Reverberation can be defined as the sum of all the reflections created from an initial sound source within a space, at a point within that space, over time.

To simulate this effect we can pass a sound through a spring with two transducers at either end. As the sound propagates it will cause the spring to expand and contract, creating a series of reflections that are picked up by the transducers (along with the original sound). This creates a simulation of reverberation with (in the case of spring of the reverb) a characteristic and classic colour.

FEATURES
The module has two audio inputs both of which can be CV or slider controlled:
- "IN1" is routed both to "DRY" mix and reverb tank input
- "IN2" Goes only to the reverb tank

The module also has 2 outputs:
- "WET" comes straight from reverb tank
- "MIX" is the mix of DRY signal and the output of reverb tank. It has CV control

It is possible to feedback the "WET" signal back into the module via "IN2" in either a straight feedback path or after passing through other modules before returning to "IN2".

With the "MIX" control we can control the amount of reverb and feedback in the mix while maintaining the presence of the original signal.

The module also features a high-pass filter at the input of the tank to control the colour of the reverberation and to tame saturation that may be created in the spring during feedback.

Finally there is a built-in VU meter connected to the "WET" output to visualise the level and saturation of the signal.

Notes: This is an analog vco based on the Bergfotron Advanced VCO. It has heavy modification compared to other buchla vco's. It will track much better then the competition. Why? because this is using a VCA based tracking system instead of the matched transistor system. The 'Lock' switch allows for setting up your favorite reference Frequency. For example you can set it up on Zero Volts equals low Note 'C'.

You use this as a sound source.
You use this as a precision LFO.
You get a bonus analog sample and hold.

There are two possible sound source outputs:
-Wave Out. This has 8 possible wave shapes: Triangle, Saw, Double Saw, Pulse Width, Sine, Ramp, Even Harmonics, and Double Pusle wave. All of this is selected by push button. The selector circuit is using a Precision DG412 IC chip, so there is absolutely no bleeding. There is of coarse CV input for the selector (by Triggering).
All 8 waves are roughly -5/+5

-(Positive) Static Square Wave Out. This is a great clock source, it is also a great sync source for other products.

The analog sample and hold is using the internal VCO as the 'clock'. You simply patch a sound source on the 'input' and use the output to monitor the result. The (red knob) Tune knob above is used to control the S&H rate.

This product is the evolution of the 'Transistor Pyramid Core' saga.

Sound source deriving four subharmonics from an incoming square wave signal - 26HP
Notes: Module A-113 is a new sound source that derives four so-called subharmonics (German: Subharmonische) from an incoming pulse signal. The term subharmonics was introduced by Oskar Sala in connection with his so-called Mixtur-Trautonium. A subharmonic means in this context a sawtooth wave (German: Kippschwinger) whose frequency is derived from a master frequency and the master frequency is an integer multiple in the range of 1...24 of the subharmonic - in other words: the master frequency is divided by an integer 1...24 to obtain the subharmonic.

The output waveform of a subharmonic is sawtooth (as also used in the original Trautonium) and not sine. The term subharmonics is somewhat misleading. The master frequency comes e.g. from an A-110 or A-111 to the frequency input of the A-113. The frequency dividers of the 4 subharmonics is adjusted with up/down buttons as displayed with two character LED displays. The subharmonics are available as single outputs and as mix output with adjustable levels for the subharmonics.

Two gate type control inputs enable to select between 4 different mixtures, i.e. 4 different settings of the frequency dividers. In the original Trautonium these are controlled by foot switches to switch between 3 mixtures while playing (the original Trautonium has only 3 mixtures available but with the 2 gate inputs of the A-113 four different settings can be addressed).

Additionally, the A-113 features a mixture memory with 50 presets. Each preset consists of 4 mixtures that can be selected with the gate inputs, each mixture contains the values of the 4 frequency dividers.

Then the CV2 - - Attenuator control works as a negative frequency control (i.e. turning up this control lowers the frequency). Herewith LFO periods up to about one hour (or even more) are possible.
- Optional CV bus access via jumper (i.e. the module can pick up the CV from the A-100 bus, e.g. generated by a Midi/CV or USB/CV interface A-190-x or a bus access module A-185-1/2), if the jumper is installed the bus CV affects all four units as the bus CV is added to the CV generated by the common control section
- Typ. frequency range: < 0.001 Hz (~ one hour, LFO mode with ultra-low option) ... 15 kHz (VCO mode with installed frequency range jumpers for the manual frequency controls)
- Heat-up time: ~ 15 minutes (required to heat-up the main circuit by the affixed oven)

The module was planned mainly as a quad VCLFO. But we added a range switch (nothing but a switch for two different capacitors) so that even audio frequencies are possible and the module can be used as VCO with some restrictions too. Because of the closeness of the main circuitry (i.e. four VCO cores within less ~ 1 square millimetre) the oscillators may lock if the frequencies are very close to each other and the VCO frequencies interact marginally. If a high quality quad VCO is required the A-111-4 is recommended as this module has four separate VCO circuits available.

The reset circuitry is optimized for the LFO mode. As it takes some time to discharge the oscillator capacitor the discharge time had to be chosen so that the capacitor is fully discharged in LFO mode. In the high range (where a much smaller capacitor is used) this will cause a zero state duration in the 0.3 ms range if the oscillator is synced (during this time the capacitor is shortened for discharge).
The control scale of the inputs "CV1" is about 1V/octave. To improve the behaviour in the VCO mode a tempco circuit is used to keep the temperature of the exponential converter at a fixed temperature (similar to the tempco option of the DIY SYNTH). That way the frequency of the VCOs (and even the VCLFOs) is nearly independent from the environment temperature. But the accuracy (1V/octave scale and temperature compensation) is not as precise as for the dedicated VCOs A-110 and A-111-1.
