Zunga (12")
Cat: JC 019. Rel: 01 Jul 13
  1. Zunga (feat Rubi Dan)
  2. No No No (Serial Killaz remix)
Review: Two hip-swinging jungle joints from booty-bass bootleg kings Deekline and Ed Solo... With Rubi Dan's inimitable chatter and chubby roll on the bass, "Zunga" is an instant 'sing along' smasher, saturated in reggae juice and sun dried on the Jamaican Blue Mountains. "No No No", meanwhile, sees the Dawn Penn classic go under the expert knives of the Serial Killaz. Bulging with bulbous bass, the skank factor is set to max and the vocal is positioned perfectly in the mix... You really can't fail with this.

Paella (12")
Cat: JC 010. Rel: 06 Feb 12
  1. Paella/Blaze It Up (feat Million Dan)
  2. Soundclash/RackNRuin (Deekline & Ed Solo remix)
Review: Jungle Cakes smash down the doors of 2012 with another heady double drop of rolling goodness from label boss Deekline and studio cohort Ed Solo. "Paella (Blaze It Up)" sees the veteran bass bin terrorists call on the heavyweight vocal talents of Million Dan, founding member of original UK hip-hop crew The Demon Boyz and an MC whose unique verse spitting is a perfect fit for the bass heavy D&B riddims! It's backed with a typically rambunctious Ed Solo and Deekline remix of Rack N Ruin's "Soundclash" that wisely retains Jessie Ware's guest vocals but adds plenty of the duo's trademark bad bwoy vibes, energetic rhythms and rippling square wave bass lines

Presents 3 Tracks (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: GRA 013. Rel: 24 Jun 19
  1. Olo - "Balast" (8:26)
  2. El Trick - "Ko Ko Dak Dak" (5:54)
  3. Palta - "Daeksel" (3:56)
Review: DJ Central presents three new aliases on this elegantly put together 12". Conjuring up the perfect recipe for a DJ Cake, Central blends and explores the likes of pulsating atmospheric techno on the track "Balast", smoothly escalating breaks on "Ko Ko Dak Dak" and hazy crackling ambient on the finale "Daeksel". Unique, inspiring and truly excellent works from the one they call DJ Central.

  1. Smoke The Weed
  2. Joker Smoker
Review: You don't get much more junglistic than Ed Solo and on this latest release from Jungle Cakes, you've guessed it, some sticky, sweet jungle is the order or the day. "Smoke The Weed" is a classic jungle mashup, and with Canadian bass master Stickybuds on hand to provide some serious breaks it quickly escalates to an all-out skanking session. Before you can pass it on, "Joker Smoker" adds retro brass and guitar to build the reggae funk as the track fragments into not one but two different breakdowns providing the basis for some serious dancefloor workouts. Don't sleep on this.

  2. November (4:31)
  3. Replay (4:34)
  4. Pinwheel (4:36)
Review: Welcome to "Melancholy City", a place we all call home from time to time. It's a place where Dutch duo Edlan and Djah will eventually be made mayors if they carry on laying down introspective gold like this. First came their collaboration "Fragile" on Integral's "Glow" series, now comes their first full EP. Right from the dreamy reverse chords of the opening title track to the last echoed vocal whisper on finale "Pinwheel" this is a tasteful slab of deep emotive drum & bass that doesn't resort to cliche like so much liquid can do. Tailor made for sadbois, sadgyals and realists of all nature.

Ra (12")
Cat: EARTHBASE 03. Rel: 22 Oct 19
  1. Ultima's Breath (6:04)
  2. Temple Of Ra (5:59)
  3. Ancestral Path (5:08)
  4. Flyring Disc (5:19)
Review: Having appeared on Cosmic Bridge's agenda-setting "Dark Matter" album in September, Leipzig's Es.tereo quickly follows up with his own persy statement. Four tracks deep, it's his first full label debut: "Ultima's Breath" sets the tone with dark tunnelling bass plucks and skittish breaks flying across the spectrum while "Temple Of Ra" strips things back and ups the trippy factor as he makes the drum chat and chirp to each other. Flip for "Ancestral Path" where the space between the drums is filled with growing, classic rave pads that gradually become the focus, rising and rising on the second drop before "Flying Disc" closes the show with a springy necksnap combo of drum textures from breaks to electro. All those in favour say "Ra".

  1. Equal Rights + Justice (6:00)
  2. Seckle (5:16)
  3. Jah Know (5:34)
  4. Respect (6:10)
Review: Fresh from his far-out fire-ups on Re.St and Repertoire in recent months, Eusebeia makes his debut on Dead Man's Chest's Western Lore with four more uncompromised journeys. All founded in the classic rudiments but reaching well into the future, as always the focus should be squared fully on the breaks as we're whipped, slapped and torn in myriad directions. Highlights include sudden twists in drum energy on "Seckle" and the raw, system-melting subs and heavens-opening pads of "Respect". Show some respect for Eusebeia.

  3. Ed:It/Technimatic - "Slate Grey" (4:23)
  4. Monrroe - "You Got Me" (feat Alexa Harley) (6:24)
Review: Shogun unleash another cheeky "Shuriken" surprise with four more modern day classics blessing wax for the first time. The A-side takes a distinct liquid approach as GLXY's "Changed Forever" plays with shades deftly, skipping between light and dark while Pola & Bryson's "Running In The Dark" will have you singing along within seconds. Meanwhile on the B Technimatic and Ed:it get busy on a dark rolling tip with "Slate Grey" while Monrroe closes the fourth edition of the series on a sweet soul tip with "You Got Me".

Insidious EP (marbled vinyl 12")
Cat: RA 002. Rel: 05 Nov 19
  1. Mono - "Machiavellian" (6:11)
  2. Slider & Expose - "Dark World" (6:22)
  3. Sicknote & Dissect - "Charge" (6:15)
  4. Drum Cypha - "Bad Hair Day" (5:23)
Review: Now this is how you do a 002... Following up their almighty launch release earlier this year, Bournemouth darkside imprint Rotation Audio let rip with another heavy multi-artist release, this time bringing more respected and hugely talented acts into the fray. Mono follows up his Shiro release with the crushing bleakness strikes and slams of "Machiavellian" before Slider returns to the label with Expose for the raw jungle breakbeat slammer "Dark World" followed by the late 90s Virus style snub-nosed pressure cooker "Charge" from Sicknote and Dissect. Last but not least Drum Cypha gives us some much needed grooming tips on "Bad Hair Day" by way of ravey stabs and heavy hardcore grit.

  1. RQ - "Cherry" (7:20)
  2. Silent Mind - "Farwater" (6:18)
  3. Paracusia - "I Know You've Been Hurt" (5:50)
  4. Sorse - "Night Messages" (4:46)
  5. Elusive Elements - "Wildhoney" (4:49)
Review: The Elementar crew follow up on the promise of their first split 12" with another impressive collection of breakthrough names exploring the deepest shades of shimmering D&B. The tracks here lean more towards the armchair than the dancefloor, striking a chord with the Mosaic compilations on Exit from around 2011. There's a languid 80s new wave tone to Silent Mind's "Farwater" while "Wildhoney" by Elusive Elements has a tender slow jam feel to it, but the primary sound palette across these five tracks is glacial pads and needlepoint, techy beats crafted with precision. It's a strong, cohesive statement from a label definitely worth keeping tabs on.

  9. Good Cop Bad Cop (4:51)
Review: When it came to following up their surprise 1994 hit album "Amplified Heart", Everything But The Girl's Ben Watt and Tracey Thorn decided to rip up the rulebook and do things differently. Previously, their music has been considered, downtempo and - whisper it quietly - Balearic. 1996's "Walking Wounded" retained their inherent beauty and sense of melancholia, but updated their musical blueprint to include far more influences from (then) contemporary dance music. As this half-speed re-mastered reissue proves, they largely hit the spot, with warm deep house cut "Wrong", the sparkling drum and bass pop of the title track and the similarly minded "Big Deal" standing out.
