Review: This new 45rpm single on Humble Action includes the original version of 'Musical Healers' by Hummingbird as well as a remix by Aryeh Yah. The a-side version is a nice twisted dancehall cut with some hot stepping rhythms that sound like they could well have been sampled by The Streets at some time. It's a future sounding cut even now with its sleek synth leads. It's a real trip too at over eight minutes long, and the remix is no less adventurous but has a more heavy low end.

First up is the delightfully dusty 'Leave The Dreadlocks' with low-slung and lazy bass deep down low, plenty of acoustic riffs and heartfelt vocals that are full of yearning, matched by the horns with similar melancholy. Flip it over for 'Omo Valley Dub,' a spaced-out melon twister with plenty of vinyl crackle and perfect hissing hi-hats taking off like spaceships. Another sure-fire winner from Pablo International.

Review: By the time they recorded "Songs of Praise" in 1990, African Head Charge had gone from being an Adrian Sherwood solo project to a fully-fledged band helmed by percussionist Bonjo Ivabinghi Noah. Here reissued to mark the album's 20th birthday, the set remains arguably the group's greatest single work. While rooted in the twin attractions of heavy dub and dense African percussion, the album makes extensive use of a dizzying array of influences, from gospel, steppers reggae and yacht rock, to traditional Arabic music, blues, disco, religious chants and even industrial music. This edition features a handful of decent bonus tracks, but they're unnecessary: the original album is little less than a masterpiece and should reside in every discerning listener's record collection.

Review: We last heard from African Head Charge back in 2011 with the album Voodoo Of The Godsent. Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah and Adrian Sherwood's experimental dub project has since enjoyed a brief archival run of cuts from the early years, which took us back to 1981 and their My Life In A Hole In The Ground album, but now we're being treated to a fresh listening experience. This time, Noah is leading us on a psychoactive trip to his hometown in north Ghana, Bolgatanga, and the mode of transport is a mesmerising tapestry of percussion and dub wise processing, all stitched together with the flair and continued inspiration of two true originals and life-long collaborators. It's as good as that promises to be, and then some.

Review: If you're a fan of the original heavyweight roots sounds then Akae Beka's Rule The Time is the sort of record you need to hear. He brings soulful melodies to deep, multi-layered songwriting, an unwavering devotion to RasTafari and healing moods across his work which totaled over 70 albums in his accomplished career. He sadly lost his life in 2019 but his legacy lives on not least through this album which is now reissued some 16 years after it first arrived. It has potent drums and shame vocals with basslines that anchor you to the floor and creative musical arrangements that make a real impression.

Review: Sicilian-born, Jamaica-raised reggae artist Alborosie presents a brand new EP charting an LP-length set of dub variations, 'Embryonic'. Coming to legendary reggae outfit Greensleeves, who've been operating since 1975, it's an impressively oozy dub album, staying true to the title and evoking the sound of what a reggae tune might be like as it develops in the womb. That said, it's still as weighty and system-pummelling as could be, in part thanks to its recording at Kingston's Shengen Studios.

Review: Alek Lee builds on his long-standing relationship with Antinote by finally coming through with his debut album, You. As one of the most respected DJs operating in Tel Aviv, not to mention playing in bands like Shame On Us and Project Runaway, he's built up a reputation for expansive music knowledge and an instinct for the obscure, which makes him fit in perfectly amongst the Antinote crew. There's a washed-out, surf reverb mood to the likes of 'Eretz Acheret', and his laconic vocal delivery gets embellished by guest spots from the likes of Keren Ilan and Eyal Talmudi. Review: Legendary UK dub pioneers Alpha & Omega have put out several classic cuts that are now hugely sought after. Their timeless reggae album Overstanding from back in 1991 is one of them and they followed it up just a year later with Almighty Jah alongside Dub Judah. It now gets reissued as part of an ongoing series and is record that fetches eye-watering prices. It has been meticulously re-mastered here and is presented in its original sleeve. It is truly one of the most definitive UK dub albums ever so do not sleep on this reissue.

Review: Alpha Steppa love putting out great albums - there have been several over the years and most of them on this label. Some have been solo, some alongside the likes of Ata Fall, while this one is a hook up with Welleie Seyon across a limited edition double 12". As always it showcases plenty of versatile production styles unified by some serious low end dub. All 12 tracks are as captivating as the next with Wellette's distinctive voice and unique sense of lyrical wit and flow making a perfect complement to Alpha Steppa's unmistakably weighty sound designs.

Review: Kevin Griffiths (aka Jura Soundsystem) is the man behind the Isle of Jura label and now it turns to Ambient Warrior once more for II, which comes a couple of years after the hugely successful reissue of their Dub's Journey album form 1995. This is a previously unreleased record made between 1995 and 1999 and it comes from the same pool of sound as that LP. It's a seamless blend of instrumental dub, reggae, bossa nova and tango music that is hugely immersive and distinctive. None of the tunes you will have heard before and that are more great windows into the minds of Ronnie Lion and Andrea Terrano.

Review: Sergey Dmitriev and Nikita Chepurnoi resurface as Amkarahoi, the experimental project which, the release notes tell us, have prepared an album that "conjures ghosts of 90s chill out tents, aqueous ambient, exploratory turn of the century IDM and echoes of jammy dub." Borne from a largely improvised show that took place in Saint Petersburg, overdubbed and mixed down, it's patient yet wildly exploratory stuff. Amkarahoi is the name of a remote Siberian region and it's easy to see why the pair picked it for this project's name. Uncle Reed In The Purple Mine sounds desolate and sparse, but once we hone in on the details we realise it's taking us though cold, barren atmospheres and into warm, E-hued soundscapes. A thoughtful yet spontaneous slice of immersive ambient you won't regret committing to.

Review: On its release last spring, reviewers hailed Horace Andy's Midnight Rockers as the honey-voiced reggae legend's best album in decades. It was certainly special, with the mighty Adrian Sherwood's production helping elevate the set to future classic levels. It was followed by the alternative, dub style 'Midnight Scorchers' album, which naturally featured Sherwood pushing the envelope far further than he did on the original set. This double-disc set brings together both sets, adds a couple of previously unreleased cuts, and allows us to once again wallow in the magnificence of such highlights as 'Safe From Harm' (a genuinely brilliant, surprisingly dark Massive Attack cover), the Ital Horns-heavy 'Material', Daddy Freddy hook-up 'Midnight Scorchers' and the Melodica-heavy dub workout 'Sleepy's Night Cap'.
