Review: London's legendary Mute institution goes back to its roots and digs up some of the best work by one of the UK's finest Cabaret Voltaire. These guys don't really need an introduction give the fact that they're pretty much responsible for the rise of post-punk right through to the birth of techno. It was about time a new compilation of their stuff was released, especially one as brutally on-point as this one! All the classics such as "Nag Nag Nag", "Kneel To The Boss" and "On Every Other Street" are one here but the more obscure rarities that were previously only available on 7" are the real winners. "Just Fascination", for example, is one you'll certainly want on a longer, re-mastered cut! Downright essential!

Review: Domenic Cappello is a long time legend of the scene who has been in the form of his life of late. As such he finally drops a much anticipated and long awaited debut album 'Basement Philosophy on Alien Communications that comes 20 years after he started making beats. Cappello's sound permeates the whole record as it traverses diverse sonic landscapes with captivating potency. Opening with 'Mushroom Waltz', dreamy pads and lively chords set the tone, leading into the soulful depths of 'Midnight with T'. 'Early Flight' builds cerebral atmospheres with characteristic snapping drums. 'Acid Rain' evokes nostalgia, while '3am Jamaica Street' pulsates with peak-time energy. 'Moon Jump' offers languid melodies reminiscent of classic Underground Resistance and electro-inspired 'Burning Past' and 'Not for Instagram DJs' conclude ta high class record in style.

Review: This version of Chris & Cosey's Musik Fantastique! is a reissue of their original 1992 album, which features a mix of new wave, post-punk, and electronic influences to produce a slick slew of dreamy melody and threnody. Chris & Cosey's sharp, often confrontational lyrics explore themes of love, politics, and society, on what is otherwise a more centre-field and dreamy album in the pair's overall brutal discography; it's a cherished part of their synthpop / dream pop era from the early 90s.

Review: Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti are busy reissuing remastered versions of their most classic albums. Pagan Tango originally came in 1991 and was described at the time by Melody Maker as "perfection." This is the first time the album has been available on vinyl since it was originally put out and it comes on limited red vinyl with a printed inner sleeve of archival photos making it a real collector's special. Tracks like 'Ecstasy' reference the trendy drug of the day, there is taut EBM on 'Take Control' and more sultry tunes on 'Face to Face'.

Review: Electronic pioneers and former Throbbing Gristle alumni Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti are held in high regard amongst those who know, and their records have always been in high demand. Right now they are being reissued in remastered form with a printed inner sleeve of archival photos and nice coloured vinyl. Techno Primitiv came came first back in 1985 on Rough Trade during the iconic duo's icy synth and minimal period. This one is the latest in the reissue series which started back in March with Elemental 7, Muzik Fantastique! and Feral Vapours Of The Silver Ether.

Review: Thanks to a swathe of superb EPs over the last few years for the likes of 2020 Vision, Lunar Disko, Further Electronix, Altered Sense and Unknown to the Unknown, long-serving electro producer Cignol is enjoying something of a career renaissance. As a result, some of his earliest releases have become in-demand and hard-to-find - hence this reissue of his long-overlooked, but utterly brilliant, 2010 debut album, Switching For a Living. Offering an attractive mixture of sci-fi seeped, far-sighted tracks informed by 1990s IDM, deep electro, downtempo, ambient and acid, it's a coherent but varied affair that has well and trily lasted the test and time - thanks, in part, to Cignol's intention to make it a genuine "listening album". Recommended.

Review: Crossed Wires III marks the final installment of the Crossed Wires trilogy, a series of releases hearing Crossed Wires (Andy Wilson) dig deep into their backlog of archived cassette recordings. This final part pulls together 14 tracks spanning Wilson's CW gamut, offering up everything from emotionally-charged, tape-restored ambient tekno all the way through to angsty almost-garage-rock, with a plethora of minimal-wave brainwaves and bounced-around ideas heard in between. Fans of obscure ephemera of the playfully and masterfully brainstormed kind will want to be quick off the mark for this one, not least since this is said to be the last ever Crossed Wires release.

Review: CYRK are a Berlin-based duo made up of Sammy Goossens and Pascal Hetzel, and they've burst onto the scene over the past five years with a rich and fulsome approach to electro and techno. Beyond appearances on Rawax, Vakant and the like they've been returning to Burial Soil, and this time around they brought their friends along. This collection spans collaborations with the likes of Steffi, Jensen Interceptor, Anthony Rother and Nite Fleit, all feeding into the dark and deliciously devilish sound CYRK whip up in their pursuit of electro exaltation.
