Returned Signal (Carl Finlow remix) (7:05)
Martian Engines (5:27)
Review: The third volume in Paul Hierphant's excellent Utopian Dystopias series is the most expansive and ambitious yet, with the publicity-shy producer offering up eight tracks stretched across two slabs of purple marbled vinyl. In keeping with the series title and theme, Hierophant delivers a series of moody and atmospheric excursions that combine the sonic sci-fi dreams (and nightmares) of Motor City techno originals (specifically Jeff Mills), with the otherworldly underwater electro of Drexciya. Throw in a bunch of twisted riffs and psychedelic acid lines, and you have a hugely impressive collection of widescreen electro. If that isn't enough to get you going, the set also includes fine remixes from Plant43 (a skittish take on 'Saturn') and Carl Finlow (a funky acid-electro re-imagining of 'Returned Signal').

The Horn - "Commander Klutz" (4:35)
The Horn - "Commander Klutz" (Pearl River Sound Mad version) (5:56)
Pearl River Sound - "MPC Groovy" (4:46)
Review: The second release from Alex Egan's Utter sub label Quoth finds a link-up between Pearl River Sound and The Horn - two outlier operators with plenty to say when their machines collide. Pearl River Sound has been scattering outstanding releases on Further, Seagrave and Further Electronix amongst others, while The Horn comes from serious Devon techno heritage having cut his teeth on Evolution back in t'day. This is all about upfront material though, with a tendency towards microtonal braindance that veers from the self-explanatory collaboration 'Modular Grime' to solo forays into off-kilter, acidic electro funk. Nowhere near as derivative as a lot of current braindance, this is real freaked-out electronics for those with discerning taste.

We Exist (3:54)
Radioactive Rain (3:40)
We Don't Take Humans (3:28)
Review: The 50th release from Solar One Music gets a suitably special treatment: it is a limited picture disc with artwork by Abdul Haqq from Detroit, who is well known for his work for Drexciya. The electro contained within is of high standard too, as The Exaltics return with their first new material after "II Worlds" on Clone late last year. It's deep, dark, high speed stuff with creepy melodies where both head and heel are kept engaged throughout. "The Troublemaker" in particular has all the right ingredients to become something of a modern day anthem.

Gagacid (with Nd Baumecker)
Fall Again (with Lee Douglas)
Native Tribes Of Jupiter (with Credit 00)
With One Another (feat Nadia D' Alo - with Benedikt Frey)
Review: It's been a fair few years now since Italian producer Massimiliano Pagliara, famed for his analogue-heavy blends of bright synthesizer melodies, pop hooks, Chicago house grooves and robust acid lines, relocated from Italy to Berlin. It's obviously been a fruitful move, as this second full-length - his first dropped in 2011 - is mostly made up of collaborations with locally based producers. Norwegian exile Telephones lends a hand on the deliciously Balearic "Long Distance Call", with one-time NYC resident Lee Douglas recalling his TBD work with Justin Vandervolgen on the murky acid assault that is "Fall Again". Elsewhere, you'll find a range of moods, ranging from the enveloping power house of "Native Tribes of Jupiter" (a hook-up with Credit 00), to the dreamy synth-pop of "With One Another".

Review: When it comes to wresting maximum emotion and energy from analogue electronic instruments, few artists can match acid revivalists Paranoid London. They've certainly made their machines sing on Arseholes, Liars & Electronic Pioneers, their third full length excursion. Kicking off with the EBM-meets-acid growl of Joe Lewis hook-up 'Love One Self', the set includes such gems as 'People (Ah Yeah)' (an ambient acid number featuring Bobby Gillespie on vocals), the hard-wired acid trippiness of 'Up Is Down' (with DJ Genesis), the squelchy and spacey excellence of 'Start To Fade' (with Josh Caffe), the acid-electro brilliance of 'GRINDR' and a genuine future anthem in Mutado Pintado collab 'The Motion'.

Review: Relentless bass squelches come by way of modular play on Patricia's (Max Ravitz') 'Blue Ridge', the producer's second album for Spanish acid-IDM visionaries Analogical Force. No concept is needed for this one, as Ravitz' hardware-centric talent is enough to carry it alone, from the snapping drum exoskeletons of 'Husk' to the LP's ambient neurogeist and closer, 'Room'. Watch out for this one's limited blue LP release.

Review: A genuinely unique project; Fundamental's Alex Stark created this highly limited and beautifully presented project via his love for Cygnus. This led to Biosoft Records which led to the discovery of Patronen, a man who made two album's worth of material (and probably more) on analogue machines in the early 90s and refuses to move from shadows. Twin Paradox celebrates this prolific, formative work across two albums. With the classic electro angularities and epic synthetic cosmicity are very much of their time, there's an overwhelming sense of timelessness and relevance to the project too. We reckon if you listen to cuts such as the poignant, reflective "Abstand" or the distorted, shuffling phrases and positive harmonics of "Karlsruhe Nach Basel" in 20 years time, they'll still sound just as icy and futuristic. We also reckon you need to jump on this investment now! With only 100 printed, this will sell out very quickly.

Review: Next up on Belgium's WeMe Records is Photodementia, a project started in 1997 by Bernard 'Monolith' Davies, Newcastle native Ellen O'Malley and Frenchman Victor Beaudet. They released two EPs on their eponymous label between 2012 - 2013 which was a sub label of Rephlex. IMG000 features new or unreleased material which will be familiar to fans of their sound: from the locomotive, hypnotic chug of opener 'PD Stomp', the sombre dystopian atmosphere of 'Arrange 7', the upbeat 4/4 computer funk of 'Dwel' to the contemplative and understated late night groove of 'Watch Your Mids' - the influence of Detroit electro is a constant throughout albeit their interesting twist on it. Highly recommended.

Review: The vital Dark Entries label welcome Lisbon producer Photonz for his debut album here. The esteemed artist has been making moves for a decade now but none so big as this comprehensive and subversive long player. "Nuit" is an album of cold wave synths and shimmering industrialism, of skittish beat patterns and cosmic melodies like "Shifting Symbols" and the more jacking drum patterns and celestial keys of "Shakti", as well as tender piano pieces and tripped out electronics such as "Lusting". It's a widescreen affair that takes in a whole range of moods and grooves with equal elan.

Review: Even if you weren't aware of his affiliation with the long running Bleep43 collective, a brief glance at the Plant43 discography of producer Emile Facey would suggest heavy involvement in underground electro. Frustrated Funk, Semantica, Central Processing Unit and AI Records are all labels Facey's work has surfaced on and it's great to see him add the blossoming Shipwrec operation to this list with his first Plant 43 LP in some four years. Programmed to be equally suited to home listening or club play, Scars of Intransigence feels like a classic LP in the making with eight tracks of deep, rippling electro that haunt and excite in equal measures. Spend more time with the album and the undercurrent of dystopian despair does begin to seep through as Facey uses his machines to translate his dissatisfaction at ill-run governments and greedy corporations with little regard for how misused and abused Earth is becoming.

Review: While he may have been serving up sporadic albums and singles since the mid 2000s, Emile Facey AKA Plant43 has never been in better form than he is right now - as last year's superb ambient album on Shipwrec proved. "Three Dimensions", a thrillingly spacious, melodic and intergalactic album that marks his debut for Central Processing Unit, is similarly impressive. This time round he's once again showcasing the deep and evocative style of futurist electro that has long been his staple sound. The results are uniformly outstanding, from the triple-time shuffle of "Orange Neon Display" and starburst warmth of "Check The Resolution", to the spiraling synthesizer supernova of "Disrupt & Disobey" and the ultra-deep and dreamy bliss of "Lo-res Dreams".

Over 52 minutes and nine tracks the album whisks the listener effortlessly from fast-paced dancefloor electro through the slowmotion cloud-soaring of Concrete Breakers, the intricate experimental synths of Perfect Ruin to the lilting, songlike tones of the emotional album closer 'Tides Align'.

A co-founder of London's Bleep43 crew, Facey has been promoting underground electro and techno since the 90's. Review: Plant43 is the alias of Emile Facey, one of electro's most tireless innovators. He has a vast discography that never fails to prove he can speak through his machines more ably than just about anyone in the game, and certainly within the genre. Luminous Machines comes on his own label and is an album, his eighth in all, of cinematic and futuristic jams written before a gig at Tresor in April this year. 'Haunting The Depths' has an icy minimalism to it, with crisp drums and snappy hits all underpinned by textured bass. The title cut is a restless affair that pings about the stereo field with squiggling lines and loopy breaks and 'Fixed Point Rotation' has a more dark and menacing feel. These are just some of the highlights of another standout collection.

Review: Joey Kendrick is perhaps better known for the braindance gear he's put out under his own name for Rephlex and the like, but he's also played around with plenty of aliases over the years too. His work as +10 actually predates his breakthrough years on Rephlex, having been released on the classy Canadian label Napalm Enema. Grace came out in 2007 and it sounds a little rowdier than later Kendrick works, but that's also part of its charm. Hence stalwart Belgian braindance believers WeMe have opted to reissue the CDr-only album as a double vinyl for your twitch, glitchy, acidic pleasure. It's a feast for the cerebellum, no doubt about it.

Review: It's already been a busy year for Poladroid with album drops on Microm and Detriti, but now the dark side electro vigilante joins the Science Cult crew for yet another full-length release. It's a chance to take in the breadth of Vladimir Volkoff's sound, which taps into the gnarly underground electro with some brilliant acidic results on the likes of 'Codex' and boxy, pneumatic pressure on 'Son Of Moloch'. Prioritising experimentation and new ideas over standard formulae, Volkoff has successfully sculpted a formidable statement on the outer fringes of punky machine funk with a grainy patina you could break your nails on.

Review: After a long hiatus of four years, synthwave duo Power Glove (yes, named after the Nintendo Power Glove) consisting of Australian brothers Jarome and Joel Harmsworth under the pseudonyms of Michael Biehn and Michael Dudikoff, return with their debut full length entitled "Playback". Our picks of the bunch are the vocoder driven, nite drive of the title track which bears comparisons to legends Daft Punk, the neon-lit disco antics of "Clutch" which follows in the footsteps of local legends Miami Horror's early work and the spooky mood music of "Loaded" which reminds us of legendary John Carpenter's seminal soundtrack work.

Review: The third album on the Rezpektiva label is a superb album compilation across four sides of vinyl by the "nutty French sonic wizard" by the name of Professor Oz. The eight tracks are devastatingly futuristic even now despite the fact they were all written 1986 and 1995. They are considered to be lost experiments, hence the album title, and have been remastered from the original DAT tapes. They bottle up dusty breakbeats and proto-techno grooves with tribal drumming and trance tinged synth overtones, proggy progressions and acid basslines that will never go out of fashion.

Review: Electro lovers will be foaming at the mouth over this one - it is a super luxe reissue of some seminal UK electro from the late 90s. It channels plenty of Drexcyia vibes with its cinematic sound and sci-fi overtones and sounds as good now as it ever has. All of the tunes on it have been remastered from DAT tapes and included along the way is 'Original Flow' which wasn't on the album before and has never been released. It was only recently unearthed having been written in 2000.
