Raiders Of The Lost ARP - "Equinox" (7:00)
Automatic Tasty - "I Can't Find My Own Manual (How Therefore Am I To Restore To My Factory Settings?)" (5:09)
Review: You can always rely on Dublin's Lunar Disko Records to provide the heat; this time it's in the form of some heavyweight electro vibes by the industry's best and brightest. But this is no surprise given the imprint's invariable doses of quality. First up is Dutch maestro DJ Overdose with "Arecibo", a comparatively more pensive and introspective electro appearance than his usual work, but TR One's "Escape From Enceladus" takes this pensive sway of synths and crystal-like sonics to an even deeper level. Raiders Of The Lost Arp kick off the flip side with the smooth and suave flow of "Equinox", this one belonging more to the house end of the spectrum, whereas Automatic Tasty comes through with a quirky little digi number with the aptly odd name of "I Can't Find My Own Manual (How Therefore Am I To Restore My Factory Settings?)". A tidy little blast of synth-filled goods.

Maelstrom - "La Nuit Est A Toi" (3:50)
Locked Club & RLGN - "Captain Industrial" (6:05)
Locked Club & RLGN - "Kill Me" (5:16)
Review: Electro monarchs Maelstrom, Locked Club and RLGN return to EP-making with a four-track array of acid bangers, happily working together on a split record to celebrate the pan-European electro scene. Their offering is unequal in quantity (2 Maelstrom and 3 Locked Club tunes) but is resolutely equal in heat; 'LA Nuit Est A Toi' is Maelstrom's standout, bleepy and suffocating in its generative, janky fright. Locked Club and RLGN follow up, 'Kill Me' being the best and most suicidally pushy techno track to soundtrack our nightmares.

Funk009 (Otto-Zero-Out) (7:15)
Funk010 (Lava P) (5:31)
Funk006 (Drop) (6:44)
Funk007 (Circular) (6:00)
Review: Loud Enough has readied its third outing and this one comes from the amusingly titled Raiders of the Lost Arp. As you can expect from the alias, this is music that leans heavily on arps. 'Funk009 (Otto-Zero-Out)' kicks off with thudding and taught house drums overlaid with rattling percussion and detuned synth hooks. 'Funk010 (Lava P)' hist harder, like an Italo Johnson party banger and then the flip side flips the script as it should: 'Funk006 (Drop)' has a more lively and lithe groove, brighter chords and an uplifting energy. Rounding things off is 'Funk007 (Circular)' , a cosmic looper with the best arps of the EP raining down the face of the gritty beats.

Cliffdive (5:59)
Castaway (5:44)
Park (5:25)
Sin (5:18)
Review: Rain & White Transit Van kick off a new collaborative project with this first EP on Damo B's Emotec label, and what an inspired cosmic trip it is. 'Cliffdive' is a subtle opener with thinking cosmic leads and lazy mid-tempo groves sweeping you up and depositing you amongst the stars. 'Castaway' then puts crunchy drum breaks front and centre, waiting around the edges with mystic chords and melancholic emotions. There is high-speed electro slickness to 'Park' complete with flashes of acid and 'Sin' closes with a mix of muted synth modulations, warped metal surfaces and bumping electro beats.

On The Air EP (reissue)
Cat: VIS 031R. Rel: 15 Apr 24
On The Air (7:06)
Lockdown (6:44)
Undercurrent (6:42)
Disconnect (6:16)
Review: Random Factor's 'On The Air' EP is a hugely sought-after classic by those who know. It came on Ralph Lawson's ever-reliable 20/20 Vision and now, as it turns 25 years old, he has decided it is the right time to get it remastered and reissued. 'On The Air' is first up on this fine EP from Carl Finlow and it has serene synths that bring to mind Detroit techno soul over pulsing bass and slick drums. 'Lockdown' has a raw vocoder vocal over punchy drums and twitchy synth stabs and 'Undercurrent' is another weapon that has more than withstood the test of time as it bumps along on funky drums and is overlaid with more playful synth patterns. 'Disconnect' is a crunchy and 8-bit closer with pixelated synths and screwy acid lines. Superb.

A Strange Traveller (4:09)
Sand Drip (7:41)
Sisyphus (7:28)
Review: Raw formed during the summer of 1990 in Athens, Greece when keyboardist Giannis Papaioannou and percussionist Makis Faros started composing music for imaginary waiting rooms. They combined the traditional cut-up technique of tape-loops, the industrial timbres of musique concrete with the harmonics of world music, all filtered through digital sampling and computer programming. Their first recordings generated an 8 track demo, which was freely distributed among friends and the local underground press. After 6 months of work and several sessions with guest musicians on acoustic and electric instruments, Raw self-released their first album 'Land' in December 1991 on Elfish Records. In 1992 they recruited the band's sound engineer, Coti K., as a third member, both on stage and studio sessions. 'City' was their second album fully inspired by the mechanisms of their home town. Presenting a different electronic face of Raw, manipulating rhythms with analogue synthesizers and harsh sampling to evoke the atmosphere of Athens.

Red Arremer

Cat: RM 007. Rel: 11 Sep 20
La Forge D'isengard (5:22)
Masters Of Steel (5:47)
The Dark Mines Slave (3:59)
Track 4 (bonus track) (4:54)
Review: Move quick on this one as its a super limited red vinyl of rugged and ragged electro sounds from French label Radio Mars. It finds Red Arremer exploring new ground on some distant interplanetary body on 'La Forge D'isengard'. Busted kicks scuff along the ground while circling synths ride up and down the scale, while 'Masters Of Steel' recalls 90s video game soundtracks with its pixelated melodic rain. The variation continue on 'The Dark Mines Slave', a naught bit of bass driven electro with oversized sounds jumping from the speaker before a closing bonus takes off on a serrated bassline and crisp, crashing hits.

The Electric Bee EP
The Electric Bee EP (yellow vinyl 12")
Cat: SNFCC 015. Rel: 03 Nov 22
The Electric (7:11)
Next One Is Bill (5:40)
The Bee (6:07)
Axes In The Skype (7:48)
Review: Tel Aviv twosome Red Axes can always be relied upon to deliver trippy, mind-altering and left-of-centre music, regardless of what stylistic or rhythmic framework they're operating in at any given time. That assessment rings as true as ever on the duo's first Shall Not Fade outing. Opener 'The Electric', for example, mixes druggy and hallucinogenic electronic motifs with a throbbing, retro-futurist house groove, sci-fi synths and the creepiest of lead lines, while 'Next One Is Bill' is a twisted, brain-melting jack-track propelled forwards by a filthy TB-303 bassline. Turn to the B-side for 'The Bee', a buzzing, foreboding chunk of punk funk/dub-disco/dark house fusion, and the intoxicating mixture of music box melodies, restless Chicago house drums and clandestine sounds that is 'Axes in the Sky'.

Blue Sky (6:43)
Blue Sky (Cignol remix) (5:39)
Review: As soon as you drop the needle on this new record from Reflection Port Assembly, you are sunk into a cosmic work of seductive electro. 'New Horizon' layers up balmy synths with crisp drums and rich bass to make for something perfect cinematic. 'Otra Cultura' has more textural synths but still plenty of beautiful chords over the jazzy beats and 'Blue Sky' then trips you out a little with crispy hits and sci-fi motifs over a rasping bassline. Cignol shows his eternal class with a far-sighted electro-soul and twitchy acid loveliness.

Mucaro (Night Owl) (4:53)

Review: The Reflektor is a lesser known alias of U.S. based producer Gabriel Reyes-Whittaker, aka The Abstract Eye/Gifted & Blessed. Some of you may have heard his release under this moniker on Kyle Hall's Wild Oats label a little while back. Technoindigenous Studies serves as a platform for his many alter egos and side projects with this new EP titled Taino, a tribute to his own indigenous Caribbean ancestors. Whether it's the heady electro sounds of opening cut 'Bajacu' (Morning Light) on the A side, or the mesmerising deep techno cut 'Mucaro' (Night Owl) on side B, or the introverted late night computer funk of 'Karaya' (Moon) - this is what makes Gifted & Blessed what it is

When Funkcutter Met Candiflp (5:34)
Review: Fourier Transform launches a new White Label series here with the aim of tapping into that magical sensation of heading into a record store and digging for treasure that only exists in the racks. The first in the series is a various artists affair with label co-owners inkipak and The Vast Profound, as well as ReKaB and Rai Scott. The tunes are not credited to the artists so you will have to work that out for yourselves. There is dreamy deep house lushness and more tase tech on the a-side, then squelchy electro-funk and escapist ambient house on the B-side with 'When Funkcutter Met Candiflp' a real highlight.

Synth It (4:55)

First Power (Domination dub) (6:17)
Review: Revelation - not the 70s soul and disco group but in this case, the short-lived house duo from New York City - dropped just three EPs and this was the second one from 1990. 'Synth It' is a mix of sounds with phenomenal synth work. The poised techno chords are balanced with electro roots and a squelchy acid line then you get a weird and wonderful bleepy dub trance sound on 'First Power (Domination Dub).' It is loved up and very special. Add in two other fine versions and you have a killer reissue here.

Rain In Kyoto (6:08)
Review: Following a run of well-received collaborations and contributions to split EPs, RLGN has finally been handed a full solo debut. The producer has grasped the opportunity with both hands and delivered a quintet of cuts that sound like guaranteed peak-time winners in the making. For proof, check opener 'Olonkho', a hybrid electro/breaks workout full of buzzing electronics, urgent drums, dark bass and layered vocal samples (Mongolian throat singers and female choristers both appear), and the dark new beat revivalism of 'Betrunkener Hund'. RLGN returns to distorted electro pastures on the warped, acid-flecked 'Mahaut', where Indian vocal samples catch the ear, while 'Thriller' is a lo-fi techno slammer and 'Rain In Kyoto' cannily combines spacey melodies and surging Euro-techno grooves.

Review: UK DJ and producer Justin Robertson is back with his latest 12" record 'Deadstock 33s', the fourth release on the up-and-coming Pamela Records label. This record is filled with groovy little tracks that blend various genres into one. 'In Minus Shadows' has a nice psychedelic campfire funk to it, with the dub-like 'Cup Of Silence' and the electro sounds of 'Of Ghosts' completing the package. Eclectic and unique dance music - very cool tunes here.

Sinister Acts (5:47)

Wife For Life (5:37)
Review: The Rogue Filter label sure has a rogue profile. It claims to have been on the scene for over 30 years, but this is only the fourth release from the label. What's more, it has been three years since their last. Anyway, the fourth transmission is a banging one. 'Everything Can Become One' kicks off with blistered bass and squealing synths then 'Sinister Acts' is a bouncy analogue workout with reverberating bass to rattle walls. 'Sonic Countermeasures' gets more brutal, like intergalactic warfare, and closer 'Wife For Life' s a sleazy and ghetto fried cut for the bass lovers.

Review: Rolando Simmons is back with more of his elegant, subtly skewed electronica, following up albums for Love Love and 030303 to drop this beauty on Utter. Alex Egan's label always favours intriguing oddities, and so you know the brand of electro Simmons offers is not some cookie cutter concern. There's an emotive warble to the synthesis, but more than that it's inherently odd around the edges and fuelled by a sentimental core, closer to braindance than typical electro. Whether it's the wobbly and lilt of 'Org Vibris' or the microtonal slides of 'Duelling Parrots', Simmons keeps things odd and engaging at all times on this wonderful eight-tracker of freaky electronics.

Review: There are few more decorated and respected electro artists than Anthony Rother. He has been kicking out the jams for decades and seen many electro trends come and go while doing so. His own sound is in constant flux and next up is an out on Bad Manners that finds him in fine form over four cuts. First is the fizzing and visceral 'Trooper', with bumping drums and robotic vocals firmly nailed to the floor. 'Male Function' is another bulky and macho cut with blistering bass and 'Eighty Four' has thundering synths over rugged drums. 'Com' closes out with an industrial edge.

Review: Hilltown Disco have been nurturing their own micro scene up in Dundee, bringing a punchy, gnarly strain of electro to the Scottish city and creating a strong community around it. Now that community comes out in force to celebrate five years of the label and club night, presenting a cast of underground operators singing from the same hymn sheet. Whatever stripe of electro you're into, you're sure to find something to sink your gnashers into here. Keep an extra attentive ear out for the opening track from W1BO, the sadly departed Wibo Lammerts, who the five-track release is dedicated to.

Review: Twenty nine years ago (can you believe it) Alexander Robotnick released his first album, Ce N'Est Q'Un Debut, featuring what's arguably his most defining track "Problemes D'amour" with the Harajuku-cute vocals of Martine Michellod. It's this album that has influenced countless French synth pop acts and a horde of old school electro lovers, and all this time later it's been repressed (again) by the label that first released it, Medical. Keeping the sacredness of this LP firmly intact by sticking with the keyboard-head artwork, Ce N'Est Q'Un Debut - along with Man Parish's 1982 self-titled debut - should be in all of our record collections.

Review: Italy's finest sound-purveyors Slow Motion proffer a fantastic new release from CEO Fabrizio Mammarella in collaboration with Rodion, collaboratively recorded at the Marche Synth Museum (Museo Del Synth Marchigiano). A fully functional recording space, the museum houses several private collections of Italian electronic musical instruments, gathered over the many years since their creation; whether the artists actually got to use any of these classic machines remains to be uttered, but we can't deny that they were inspired. Both artists do thorough justice to their Marche region roots here, laying down eight slices of industrial dungeon-electro, mind-melting acid rollouts and spoken-n'-spelled ritual dances.
