Fieldwork EP (reissue)
Cat: LDR 1010. Rel: 07 Jul 20
  1. Field In The Morning (5:14)
  2. Field In The Afternoon (4:25)
  3. Field In The Evening (5:52)
  4. Field By Night (4:20)
Review: As Jonny Automatic Tasty Dillon prepares to release his sixth studio album A Farewell To Reason, Lunar Disko take us back to 2012 and one of Jonny's many discographical highlights "Fieldwork". An EP of four stages, the concept takes us across the day using Foley sounds. "Field In The Morning" is a bright, bouncy piece dusted with birdsong, "Field In The Afternoon" is a warmer, more energetic piece of acid house, all bleepy and relentless with its rolling drums, "Field In The Evening" brings a more sobering reflective note while "Field By Night" climaxes with an intense acid rave-up, like all the best days spent in fields should. Eight years old but still as timeless as ever, Tasty has always lived up to his name.

Reward System 1
Cat: RSTM 001. Rel: 22 May 19
  1. Truth? (8:09)
  2. Leave This Planet (Alone) (6:17)
  3. Bitten (4:46)
  4. Enter 030 (5:19)
  5. Zuidas (4:16)
  6. Virtual Shoulder (To Cry On) (4:45)
Review: One of the great joys of Matthew Puffett's Future Beat Alliance productions is the stargazing futurism that oozes from each far-sighted melody, intergalactic chord and impeccably programmed beat. That sci-fi-centric positivity is evident throughout this EP, from the smooth and emotive goodness of opener "Truth?" and the sharp, spiraling alien melodies of "Leave This Planet (Alone)", to the ghostly ambient techno bliss of "Enter 030" and the becalmed, beat-free electronic fluidity of sublime ambient composition "Virtual Shoulder (To Cry On)". Elsewhere, "Zuidas" wraps ethereal electronics and funky acid bass around snappy broken beats, while "Bitten" is a dusty chunk of hip-hop/electronica fusion.

Coming Up For Air
Cat: IT 042. Rel: 01 Oct 19
  1. External Observer (5:55)
  2. Fuzzy Clouds Of Potential Existence (7:01)
  3. Coming Up For Air (5:07)
  4. Mechanistic Control Fantasies (3:28)
  5. Terminal Phase (3:02)
Review: Following fine releases on Shipwrec, Natural Sciences and Return To Disorder, masked electro/techno misfit Galaxian (real name Mark Kastner) makes his first appearance on Ilian Tape. The Glasgow-based producer starts in suitably big fashion via "External Observer", where what sounds like an orchestra of synthesizers gets to work over a skittish, bass-heavy electro beat, before exploring more dystopian dancefloor pastures on the moody, alien-sounding and otherworldly "Fuzzy Clouds Of Potential Existence". On side B he gives his out-there interpretation of early jungle ("Coming Up For Air"), batters a broken computer into submission and makes electro gold out of it (the slightly melancholic "Mechanistic Control Fantasies") and soundtracks the end of days (or possibly Brexit) on weirdo closing cut "Terminal Phase".

Certified Euro Terror EP
Certified Euro Terror EP (12" + slipmat)
Cat: ILG 002. Rel: 04 Sep 19
  1. Arsenic Wish (6:28)
  2. CET + 666 (5:39)
  3. Early Bab (original Acid version) (6:17)
  4. We Trance Fair (4:14)
Review: Jack Pattern collective member Neu Verboten is transmitting sonic metadata from the interzone, between the secret Lustpoderosa headquarters (in Zurich) and the decentralised battlefields of today's resistance. Combine old synth machines with rusty surveillance tools and you get a quartet of rough and sludgy electroid mutations. From the slow burning retro boogie of opener "Arsenic Wish", to the dystopian future bass of "CET + 666" to the euphoric acid express of "Early Bab" and the oddball exotics of "We Trance Fair" - this is Certified Euro Terror.

Return To The Sentient City
Cat: SEM 069. Rel: 26 Nov 20
  1. Chain Of Memories (7:05)
  2. Ascendant Machines (4:43)
  3. Amphibious Architecture (5:44)
  4. Ubicomp Malfunction (6:57)
Review: Bleep43 crew member Emile Facey, aka Plant43, returns for one of his irregular conceptual forays on Svreca's Semantica Records. Continuing the theme of his previous two Semantica releases, the four strong suite of intense electro revolves around Facey's sonic travels through the imaginary Sentient City. If you have indulged in previous Plant43 output you will know the London artist possesses a masterful range and it's displayed wonderfully here. Opener "Chain Of Memories" combines ripples of richness with the instantly gratifying snap of 808 programming, whilst "Ascendant Machines" is a wonderful example of his ear for melody. B side opener "Ubicomp Malfunction" veers into alien territory whilst "Amphibious Architechture" offers a contemplative finale.

Mad System
Mad System (12")
Cat: IT 044. Rel: 04 May 20
  1. Shaketown (4:55)
  2. Chi Boost (6:07)
  3. Bengel Mode (5:16)
  4. Outside (4:58)
Review: In recent times the Zenker Brothers seem to have spent more time running their inspired Ilian Tape imprint than they have producing music. While we'd hardly criticize their choices - Ilian Tape goes from strength to strength - it's certainly good to have them back. The Munich-based siblings begin their first outing of 2020 with the melodious, far-sighted electro shuffle of "Shaketown", before wrapping mangled, mind-altering electronic riffs around a crunchy techno groove of "Chi Boost". "Bengel Mode" sees the siblings successfully combine alien-sounding riffs with a denser techno rhythm track, while closing cut "Outside" is a sparkling trip into hypnotic, slow-release ambient techno territory with nary a kick-drum in sight.
