Review: RFXN kicks off life with a new single from David Agrella which has seen early support from Ricardo Villalobos. First off he offers up his own Acid Mix of 'Perro Balearico' and it's a supple, deep and dubby track with liquid synths and prog chords that sound both retro and future all at once. The original is a more dreamy and spaced-out sound for 5 am sessions. On the flip is a more punch but still silky and warmly melodic remix from Mario Liberti before last of all, Gabriel Rai gets darker. His drums hit harder and the synths are moodier as he takes dancers down a late-night path of mystery and intrigue.

Review: Prescription and Guidance mainstay Abacus has already done enough to assure his eternal legacy in the story of deep house. But thankfully he is still turning out superbly deep sounds that are as profound and emotive as they are heady and escapist. Here he is back on Phonogramme with 'Analogue Stories Vol. 2' which comes on a unique semi-transparent 12'' vinyl. The beats are warm and humid, thickly coated with a diffuse synth hue as the rooted drums roll on smoothly. 'How U Do It' is out pick - a musical odyssey with layers of instrumentation, piano and percussion all topped off with a Moodyman vocal sample.

Review: Oooh! Angie Stone's "Wish I Didn't Miss You" definitely belongs in the canon of all time modern soul classics. Taken from her 2001 second album Mahogany Soul, the Swizz Beats produced track made optimum usage of an O' Jays sample and was instrumental in that LP going gold and propelling the former D'Angelo collaborator to stardom. It also inspired countless official and under the counter remixes with Blaze's perhaps the most recognisable. So yes this reissue on 7" from Outta Sight is worthy if you don't have the original in your collection and features a housed up remix from Hex Hector on the flip.

Review: The Stamp label is up to its 18th outing here and once again it is an irresistible coming together of club-ready grooves with well-chosen and well-worked samples. First up the essence of one of George Benson's most iconic cuts gets reworked into a smooth house beat with the guitar kicks, vocal inflections, claps and melodies all getting you up on your toes on 'Night' (dub). 'New York To Rio' then brings some dusty deep house grooves and impassioned vocals for a more upbeat kinda party. Hand-stamped white label business this, so do not hang about.

Review: Although they've been serving up high-grade blends of disco, funk, soul and house for some time, it's only in recent years that many of Micky More and Andy Tee's most potent productions have made it to wax. The two tracks here, which first appeared digitally in the middle of the last decade, are fine examples. 'I'm Another Man' is heavy, raw and impactful, with the pair adding rolling house beats to a horn-heavy deep funk song complete with gravelly male lead vocals. Over on the flip, 'Night Cruiser' is their (successful) attempt to make (and update) a Vincent Montana style, Salsoul disco instrumental with added house chops. Keep an ear out for the Roy Ayers style vibraphone solo that drops midway through.

His latest track is his best yet; 'All About The Culture' features US legend Cevin Fisher and it is real proper deep house with an infectious vocal underpinned by surefire elements, such as a low slung bassline and creamy Rhodes keys - enough said! If that's not enough, over on the flip Mingo taps the one-and-only Roland Clark for his participation on 'The Rhythm', a serving of low-slung, ultra smooth mood music for the late night.

Review: In the past 15 years, Yore has established itself as one of the most celebrated labels in terms of consistency, quality and success. The label is brimming with talented artists doing their own take on the Detroit sound. The most recent is a collaboration between Elbert Philips and Andre Espeut called 'Tears' where it also gets some remix treatment to fill up Yore #49. The 'Acid Dub' remix gets granular with the groove. Deep and dubby, just how we like it, as is the piano towards the ending too. From there, you have other great versions. The 'Sinsay Reprise' highlights the vocal sample a bit more but has great building potential for any house DJ. The 'Loving Tribute Instrumental' is the straightest house approached version where the piano really takes center stage. Things close out with a broken beat version via the 'Andrew Emil Dreamix', meaning there's plenty to choose from. Depending on your style, know that this can bridge styles in any set giving it a versatility that is unmatched.

Review: James Andrew has been a man rising up through the ranks for the last few years. He started this Nothing But Nice label between London and Berlin with his pal Charley and kicks off his 2024 with a fantastic fourth offering. 'Lambrini Bob' has it all - slick tech grooves, cosmic pads, minimal sound designs and a nice cool vibe. Brasseye-referncing 'Klarky Kat' ups the ante with more tightly stacked drums but still oodles of future funk and nice neon colour and 'The Excursion Of Dreams' then explores a world of jungle sound effects, tropical heat and 90s prog techno new age synths. 'Exotic Robotics' is the irresistibly groovy icing on this super cake.

Review: Silat Beksi returns to RAWAX with his new release, 'Keep It Real'! On the A -Side we hear Beksi's trademark minimal techfunk with 'Impress Me', which delivers lilting stabs against a skeletal yet weighty beat backdrop. Review: Brixton-based David Agrella returns after the success of his Baby Ford-remixed 'Modulo 02', with two tracks and a nifty remix of each to boot. 'I Felt It Coming' is a heady peak time track, with Underground Resistance-style drum machine handclaps and an addictive synth hook and all the suspense and drama of a Stephen King horror tale. Domenico Rosa's remix turns that frown upside down, converting it into a perky, cheeky and altogether lighter workout that nevertheless will keep feet on the dancefloor. 'Reflexion Nocturna' (Priori remix) kicks off the B-side with fizzling dub techno stealth, subtly embellished with a smidgeon of 'Funky Drummer' breakbeat, while Agrella's original closes proceedings with head down, echo-set Leftfield-style prog house skank. Not for nothing is this chap known as one of the techno scene's fastest rising new names.

Review: German artist Purple Disco Machine is a studio wizard and something of a throwback - he manages to make tunes that are rich in musicality as well as having plenty of focus on the dancefloor. Each one brims with colourful hooks and catchy grooves and this new one 'Beat Of Your Heart' comes with delightfully soulful vocals from singer-songwriter ASDiS. Volume one brings together a range of names and influences from across the ages starting with the super silky r&b samples of Micky More & Andy Tee's 'Can I (Show You Real Love)' (feat Angela Johnson - Full Intention remix) which is as soulful as house gets. The same duo's 'Soul Heaven (Alright)' is another mid-tempo bubbler with disco percussion and then they get into remix mode for two slinky, laid-back grooves on the flip. Good times only with these jams.

Review: Kai Alce's faultless NDATL label brings us more goodies direct from his base in Atlanta, which might be best known for its rap but also packs a punch when it comes to house music. This one is from Rasheeda Ali, a new name that might be familiar to anyone who heard Kai's 'Sheed's Move' tune from a previous EP. She has also been on stage with none other than Jeff Mills and here her flute skills come to the fore with production from Kai. 'Libra Ascending' has a snappy bounce, then 'Sheed's Rising' showcases Rasheeda's gymnastic flautist abilities. A fine debut.

Review: Marking the label's first release of this year, Passion de la Passion is a four-track excursion into wiggly cosmic craic from Physical Education. Packed with weird names like 'Ooga Booga Acid Time' and 'Karima's Duff Duff', it's evident that humour is central to the practice of releasing duo Abdul Raeva (real names Joonas Arro, Steffan Todorovic) who've been releasing since 2020 but not defined themselves quite so intently just yet. That changes with this EP, which charts four warp-driven space jams of sidereal proportions.

Review: More splattered translucent green and black vinyl action from Groove Culture, the in-house imprint of Italian disco, house and jazz-funk fusionists Micky More and Andy Tee. As usual, there's a celebratory, party-starting feel to both tracks, with lead vocals from some genuinely legendary singers only adding to the 'bona-fide peak-time bangers' flavour on show. A-side 'Celebrate', with Kathy Brown and Shree Hicks, starts off as a rolling, bass heavy mid-tempo disco-house number, before the pair introduce some killer disco strings to take it closer to "revivalist disco" territory. 'So Wide Open', with Angela Johnson on lead vox, continues this trend, wrapping punchy horns, disco strings, Bernard Edwards style bass and Nile Rodgers-esque guitar licks around a chunky house groove.

Review: Keeping the house flavour bedded into minimal since the mid 00s, Audio Werner has long perfected a sleek, sublime style which maintains some 20 years in. On this new drop for Adam's Bite he's on superlative form, teasing out the most perfectly sustained double bass groove with just the barest of essentials for company on 'Deepozzarella' and then making everything sound so soulful in the process. 'Chordlift' opts for an airier tone, riding a more fractured groove that kicks tougher than most Audio Werner jams. 'Tension' completes the picture with the kind of subtly giddy roller which could truly take an afters in the stratosphere.

Review: Such is the prolific nature of FXHE at the moment, which ever pressing plant Omar S uses must be pretty happy with their contract. Following swiftly from Omar S's ode to the Axel F sound comes the debut missive from Aaron "Fit" Siegel. Named so thanks to his work at the helm of Fit Distribution, Siegel is a key figure in ensuring the ongoing healthy output of Detroit's house and techno militia and "Tonite" proves to be an auspicious debut. Featuring the vocal talents of L'Renne, the track is one of those eminently soulful house tracks with a sparse approach to production, all the elements sounding so crisp and distinct in the mix but judged perfectly. Such a track and the tougher B Side Detroit Mix just demonstrate how on top of their game FXHE are right now - big tip!

Review: Long time Balearic maestros A Man Called Adam came back strong with a new album this past summer, and now the gift keeps on giving with a second series of tasteful remixes from it. Aleksandir's mix of "Higher Powers" is a beautifully gentle and melodic deep house groover. Pads drift by like zephyrs and Sally Rogers' vocals appear like illusions on the clouds. A Man Called Adam themselves then dub out "Michael" with muted acid lines and muffled vocals. Felipe Gordon then layers up balmy pads and warming chords on his remix of "Mountains & Waterfalls" and a demo edit of "Higher Powers" from Aleksandir closes things out ion glistening, heartfelt melodic house fashion.

Review: Toolroom has gone from underground house label to one of the UK's most successful and large scale dance brands. They keep on serving up the sort of hits that become big festival anthems and this is another one, with new school Chicago artist Gene Farris paired off with ATFC for big, rollicking piano house sounds on 'Spirit of House.' 'R U' then gets more tech edged and sweaty on a big synth loop and walls of drums, while 'Tech House Kinda Thing' is a supersized tune designed to do plenty of damage. There is real funk and soul in the cut up and filtered vocal loops of closer 'Not Enough.'

Review: Croatian mainstay Ilija Rudman had a productive 2016 thanks to turns on Chit Chat, Burek and Double Deer, and he turns to his own Imogen Recordings to kick off the new year with a brooding, drum-focused hit of oddball house music for the trippy, paranoid end of the night. The "Presence Deep Dub" mix of "In Her Eyes" is a multi-faceted jam, using high-end processing matched with organic, instinctive percussion to make for the kind of workout that will inspire all manner of curious reactions from the floor. It's a track more than strong enough to stand proud as a one-sided 12", with the crossover appeal to land in a whole host of different bags.

Review: Sonder is a new London-based label dealing in sprightly tech house with plenty of wiggle. Cutting the ribbon is ADMNTi, who has been on superlative form via releases for Dansu Discs, 4Plae and Yamanu amongst others. His 'Liquor Locker' and 'BetaSpace' cuts are splashed with a little sunshine, some garage bump and subtle trance touches, all the better to grease up the dancefloor. Laidlaw takes up position on the flip, offering his own strain of shuffling funky stuff for the peak time crowd. 'Open To Receive' has a subtly spiritual slant to it, while 'Repeated Patterns' gets into a snaking house trip with cheeky hooks and snappy basslines for days.

Review: Dobro is a house and disco edits label run by Belarusian DJ/producer Iner out of St Petersburg. For its fifth release, it's another various artists affair featuring a whopping six tracks with appearances from I Gemin on the dusty, boompty and off-kilter 'I Like 2 Party', Paul Rudder & OUI go ultra deep in the tradition of the Three Chairs sound on the emotive 'In The Sky For Our Love', while Bendrik serves up the mandatory late night mood music vibes on 'Chat House' and Swales provides the banger on the funky and tough rolling 'Blue Skies'.

Review: Shockingly, it's been four years since long-serving Greek producer Argy last released an EP of new material. Perhaps he's been holding back some sizzling material because this return to action on Afterlife is genuinely excellent. Title track 'Tataki' is particularly potent: an intoxicatingly moody, otherworldly dancefloor chugger in which sampled, effects-laden Greek vocal samples rise above a throbbing sequenced bassline, tough but sparse drums, clandestine chords and creepy electronics. 'Magic Order' is similarly druggy, with choral vocal snippets, a bassline reminiscent of Lindstrom's trancey nu-disco classic 'I Feel Space', high-end lead lines and gently swelling chords. Impressive stuff all told, though we didn't expect anything less.

Review: Any Omar S release is worth checking, but when it also features Detroit funk godfather and Motor City legend Amp Fiddler, as well as Andre Foxxe of Parliament-Funkadelic, then it's pretty much buy on sight. You never know what you're gaping to get with the FXHE boss, and never was that more true than here on this sweet little 7". A-side 'The First One Hundred' is a loop of Omar S's trademark dusty drums and a deeply buried bass guitar riff that is super funky, and 'Dance Your Blues Away (feat Amp Fiddler)' sounds like Prince making house music in Omar S's studio. They are short, but oh so sweet.

Review: NDATL welcomes Abacus back to the US label's roster after notable appearances on Prescription and Guidance, with title track 'The Lower End Theory' proving to be a smooth, effortless and downright classy deep house calling card with the subtlest hint of acid. 'Atlanta Deep' follows next with a gloriously gloopy bassline a little reminiscent of Mayday's 'Nude Photo', and then 'Mortise & Tenon' closes the 12" with the lightest and most soulful of touches in both the rhythm and melody departments. It assembles a fine crew of artists for some quality house steeped in emotion. 'Will We Ever Learn' (Jamiie remix) opes up with some sophisticated string stabs and nice deep groove before a Luke Brancaccio & Gai Barone remix brings a little techno futurism and steeliness to Anthony Pappa & Jamie Stevens's 'Hold You Back.' The B1 is a tune to lock a late night crowd into a melodic haze and the final Tim Engelhardt remix is a chunky but melodic roller.

This is the 15th such offering - a third volume of its Jam series - and again the good times flow from the off. Review: Accented Measures is Kofi Agyeman, an Afro-German producer from Berlin now based in the UK. He started his own self titled label back in 2021 and now its third release - second on vinyl - drops with a real splash. His particular brand of club music is fulsome minimal, with fleshy basslines and smeared cosmic synths on 'Tension' making for a warm opener. The Harry Wills Ataraxia mix is much more direct and punchy, with freaky stabs and acid prickles in a busy arrangement. 'Upfront' (Like U 2 mix) is a bouncy one with feel-good and funky bass and 'PPDB' has a rotator feel with a turbocharged bassline. Serious tackle.

Review: We love nothing more than house music direct from the Windy City and that's what Vick Lavender's Sophisticado Recordings has got for us here. Angel-A is actually a native of Detroit currently living in Chicago and influenced by everything from jazz to gospel. She brings that to the fore here on the 'Master Fusion' single which is as soulful, lush and heartwarming as house can be. Her voice takes on many different forms from wordless coos to expressive declarations of love via diva wails. Lavender himself serves up a mix, while Albert Menendez offers both a piano-laced vocal mix and a broken beat, jazz-licked and synth-heavy instrumental which does still have the standout original vocal.

Dan Piu's '3_HP_D' is a tech house exploration with wispy sci-fi leads and a playful rhythm then Luis Malon & Seb G combine for the turbo-charged tech of '4_HP_D.' The legendary Freddy Fresh closes down with a high-speed sound on '5_HP_D.' Says the label, "Hyperdrive is dedicated to preserving the rich history of electronic music," and on this evidence, it will do so expertly.

Here he makes his bow on Better Listen with a three-tracker packed to the rafters with warmth, soul and groove. The Bristol-based producer rounds things off in fine style via "Horizons", a slightly bouncier house cut that makes great use of some bluesy piano samples and another stoned, glassy-eyed bassline.

Review: Age of Rage aka the studio powerhouse pairing that is Dubbyman and Dan Piu is back on Sole Aspect with a third outing. The title of this one, Credo, is from the Latin word for a "firm set of beliefs and principles." It finds the duo serving up deeply soulful spirits and romantic atmospheres with dusty house beats as the vehicle. 'Open to Close' is balmy and gentle, with the dub even more warm for you to sink into. 'Fake Action' brings shuffling grooves and lush cosmic designs and 'Lover' is a smoochy closer that echoes Sade. Lovely stuff as always from this accomplished partnership.

Review: Demi Riquisimo's 'A Lifetime On The Hips' sublabel returns to make it a hat-trick of releases for 2023 with the impressive 'Body Move' V/A, featuring eclectic club cuts from Dreamrdreamr, SY, Papa Nugs, Elfenberg, Absolute. & Ysanne. Dreamdreamr's emotive 'Zone 4 Booty Call' kicks off the A-side; it's a track that effortlessly fuses elements of deep house, trance, and r&'b, setting the the tone perfectly for an EP not bound by the borders of any genre. The titular 'Body Move' by SY is up next; a no-nonsense house chugger with flourishes of Italian 90s progressive and acid - a perfect modern interpretation of a foundational strand of club music. The A-side wraps up with one of 2023's most exciting prospects Papa Nugs and the vocoder infused, percussive, twisted jam 'Loosey Goosey'. The flip picks up right where the A-side left off with Elfenberg's 'Solarplexus', a cosmic, evolving and psychedelic interpretation of house. After, UK mainstay Absolute offers a 'Devastating Rhythm', a peak time techno floor filler that sounds like a Frankenstein mix of seminal imprints Dance Mania & D'jax-Up-Beats' output - proper gear. Finally, drawing the curtain on the 'Body Move' V/A is Ysanne's 'Tisno Tango'; a slightly more introspective cut, but with more than enough groove to make you dance, a perfect closer.
