Review: In celebration of their tenth birthday, Selador marks the occasion in style with a four-track collaborative EP, featuring tracks from 3D, Robert Owens, Olivier Giacomotto, Quivver, Dave Seaman, Hernan Cattaneo, Argia, and Jepe. The opening track, 'Known Love', is a deep, pulasting house tune that feels like an instant classic, perhaps thanks to the soulful, pop-tinged vocals - think LCD soundsystem meets Four Tet. 'Snailblazer', the second track on the EP, takes a much darker turn, with a chugging, EBM-esque feel. Full-bodied and complete with obscured vocals, this is the kind of track to pull out your bag when it's time to really get stuck in. On the B-side, 'Napkin Knowledge' draws on the glistening synths of eurodance, yet still securing the melodies to a grounded bassline and rhythm section. 'Salitre' is the perfect closing track, rising up in a gleaming, ecstatic melody, before delicately returning to ground level. A varied yet firmly cohesive collaborative release - the perfect way for Selador to kick off their 2023 catalogue.

Review: Atree aka Smoove & Mocean, and debutante Hagel inaugurate new imprint Tutto Bene with a couple of killer tracks and some equally impressive remixes. On the A-side, there's the moody acid techno of 'Die Another Day' with its bouncy bassline and overall ravey aesthetic, followed by a tripped-out minimal techno rework by Italy's Lorenzo Chiabotti. Review: Hot Creations has now put out well over 225 records, which is no mean feat, but even more impressive is that it still very much sets the conversation for a certain section of the house world. This new EP pairs off Beltran with Harry Valencia and offers some interesting fusions of tribal, Latin, house and tech. There is a wonky feel to opener 'Origins' (3AM Tusi mix) with its characterful vocal chants and percussive grooves, while Beltran's solo cut 'Tira A Roupa' (feat Mc Jajau - Putaria mix) has a Spanish feel and a fat bass guitar riff that brings rubbery funk to the crisp tech drums. Last of all, Harvy Valencia goes it alone on closer 'Brut' which is more steamy and sweaty and ready for some sun-kissed open-air deployment.

Review: Lempuyang's third offering is an outstanding split release between Steve O'Sullivan & Hydergine, label bosses for Mosaic/Bluetrain & Ranges. In 'Binary Riddim' Steve delivers a two-part dub track spanning >13 minutes, seriously heavy in the low end; melancholy strings in the first half, progressing to outright menacing chord stabs in the latter. A versatile track offering something for both warm-up and the dancefloor. Complimenting on the flip are 'Mystic Light' and 'Lunar Eclipse' from Hydergine. Deep, dubby atmospherics meander over a weighty 909 kick on B1. Subtle minimalism a la Terrence Dixon, pitched down on B2. Essential release!

It's a heavy-hitting mix of pivotal house talents starting off with prolific Windy City player Boo Williams. The big man's 'Transformation' is a smooth and chord-laced house roller that has a more reflective vibe than his usual party-starting offerings. Atlanta don Kai Alce's 'Love Exists' is a heartfelt house romance then the long-time partnership of Owen Jay & Melchior Sultana douse us in star-gazing chords on 'Soul Expression' that leave you feeling refreshed. Review: The decorated Spanish producer and DJ Henry Saiz, who operates under the novel character moniker Hal Incandenza, has been in the scene for 15 years now. He comes to us this time with an EP under MM Discos, a 12" stringing together deep house, nu-disco and techno sensibilities mixed with classic vocal samples. The patchwork of genres is a floor filler, the sub bass sure to get heads rocking on 'Ceremony', the classic house references on 'Incivitas' being too perfect not to groove to. For something more retro futuristic and techno-house, Marvin & Guy punch in another fantastic remix for this record, giving their interpretation of 'Incivitas' a far more theatrical sound, less danceable and more thoughtful.

Review: Kyle Hall makes another entry into the already fine discography of his Forget The Clock label with another fine four tracker. His usual raw style pervades from the off with the well swung drums and bumping kicks of the title track soon to get you in the groove. His signature diffuse synth work is what brings warmth and soul to the dusty drums of 'Track 2' while 'Sarabi' ups the pace with a more hurried groove and pent up sense of party joy. A second bonus track closes proceedings, with 'Track 4' layering up low slung drums and meandering cosmic leads to heady effect.

Review: Kyle Hall treats us to a new and special pressing of his standout Equanimity EP which was last reissued back in 2020. This one comes on limited edition translucent teal vinyl and was initially put out to mark the ten-year anniversary of Detroit native Hall's own Wild Oats label. In that decade he has established it as one of his hometown's finest for dusty deep house explorations. The four tracks on it are just that with a whimsical melody over bumpy beats on the opener, then more zoned-out beats on '4wrd Motion' and glitchy kicks and hits on 'No More Moon'. Last of all is the star-gazing cosmic house of 'Ghosten 4 A 2nd X'. A timeless EP for sure.

Review: "Dubb Me Some'tin Fresh" first appeared on wax way back in 2001, as part of Halo, Hipp-E and Tony's first outing for YoshiToshi under the 6400 Crew alias. It remains one of their strongest cuts; a dark, sweaty and trippy fusion of tribal drums, acid bass and dub-house sensibilities. This reissue contains the freshly re-mastered original version, plus a trio of tasty new reworks. Deep Dish man Sharam steps up first, emphasizing the dub-influenced elements on a big room version that strips back the original's dense tribal drums without sacrificing any energy. In contrast, Sinisa Tamamovic's remix is loose and more tribal-minded, while Hector opts for more acid lines and heavier sub-bass on his big room-friendly interpretation.

Review: Halvtrak is hardly prolific - this EP is just his fourth solo vinyl outing in a decade - but what he does release is invariably excellent. The Finnish producer's trademark sound is rooted in the past, referencing British breakbeats, ambient techno, bleep, Motor City futurism and Chicago house, but always sounds fresh, pleasingly melodic and analogue rich. Opener 'X-Pressed' is probably the most peak-time ready of the strong bunch of tracks on show, with glassy-eyed chords and spacey melodies riding a thrusting bassline and sweaty breakbeats, though the house-tempo melodic techno strut of 'Rhythm Overture' pushes it close. Elsewhere, 'Phase Distorshun' is a more angular, deeper and lo-fi techno excursion, while 'Doubt' sounds like a cross between deep bleep minimalism and hypnotic, mid-90s Detroit techno.

Review: Moscow Records boss Archie Hamilton appears this time on Enzo Siragusa's Fuse London imprint with these slices of rolling, Latin-infused tech-house for the beach party. This is the kind of stuff that lovers of Mindshake and Rawthentic will be all over. First up "Mind Blank" brings the tough yet sultry attitude that you could imagine playing peak time at Amnesia. "Works On Sunday" takes the tempo down a notch or two for something more suited to the afterhours, but just as sexy. There's also a remix of this on the flip by none other than label boss Siragusa with Seb Zito keeping the afterhours vibe intact but with a druggier, minimal take on things.

Review: Lol Hammond is a former member of Spiral Tribe and early live techno act The Drum Club who now makes music on his own as Wah Wah Planet. Back in 1990 is when he penned this fantastic five track Balearic house EP alongside Russell Crone and with female vocal contributions from Lucy Sian. It very much lay out an early blueprint for UK street soul and the opener on the A-side 'Jewel' explores a romantic theme with hooky pop lyrics. Things get more left of centre on the 'Love FXU' with three trips into a smoother sound world perfect for sun kissed island dancing and with influences ranging from early breakbeat and trip hop to elements of dancehall music.

Review: Mysticisms continues its global search for amazing music, hitting gold again with an EP of four previously unreleased house meets IDM with a dreamy edges by Romania's HAN aka Dan Handrabur, culled from early studio recordings between 1991-95. After getting into record store culture he began building a studio and eventually gave up studying in favour of production, relocated to Vancouver, Canada, where his debut release (as X Drone with Adham Shaikh in 1993) began to establish Handrabur's role as an integral part its electronic scene. Appearances with Harthouse, Exist Dance, Eye Q Records and many more followed, plus collaborations with the legendary Phil Western. The four tracks here haven't aged at all, with nimble beats, action-packed arrangements and dreamy atmospheres, 'Give In & Resist' coming on like Rising High-era Mixmaster Morris crossed with the playfulness of Air Liquide, and 'Phantasme' revelling in the same cross-rhythmic fun that informed The Black Dog's classics.

Opening things up, Mark Hand unfurls more of his exquisite, Rhodes-licked vibes, while Platform 001 offers up a more subliminal, stripped and bumping groove. G-Prod takes things into the distance with the pad-soaked dreamstate of 'Horizon', and Leo Gunn digs into something dusty and lounge-geared with the outstanding warm-up cut 'Aheeoo'.

Review: Hanna is a somehow rather overlooked or under-appreciated (or both) producer from the states. He had some cult classic outings on some key labels first time round then seemed to disappear only to come back again a few years ago with his superbly fresh and musical house sound more than in tact. He is a master instrumentalist and keys player who brings the jazz, the funk, the class to every tune. That is certainly the case on the warm, glowing grooves of 'Another Flannel Afternoon' with its neat synths and subtle vocals. 'Afraid Of Breakfast' is a more textured track with wet clasp and loopy synth motifs over a rugged house beat. 'In Yo Head' features 90s hip-hop maestro Jeru Tha Damaja on the vocals and gets a remix that is a perfect bit of hip-house.

Review: Hamburg-based duo Hard Drive Library return to do what they do best on the fourth edition of their eponymous imprint: hooky filter house tunes, extremely raw and unforgiving. On the A-side you've got the bumpin' dancefloor heater 'Keep It Groovin' and its hypnotic vocal refrain that'll have the crowd grooving 'til the break of dawn, plus two more rough and ready jams over on the flip. There's the quirky and low slung bounce of 'Donkey Damage' as well as the funked-up disco loop action on 'Dancin Heat' reminiscent of classic DJ Sneak.

Review: The self-titled Hard Drive Library production outfit is back with a fifth offering of raw-assed house music. This latest three-tracker is another direct-to-dance floor offering that starts with the rickety loops and endless reverb of 'Extra Wet' which has thumping kicks, serrated electro-house synths and yelping vocals. 'Another' is a much more smooth and feel-good groove with summary, uplifting French house synth loops and last of all 'Less Euphoric' is actually more euphoric with plenty of pent-up energy, bumping drums and happy melodic loops that cannot fail to bring a smile to your face.

Review: The deep house maestro that is Ron Trent has been tapped up for some of his remix expertise by the good folk at Leng. He is charged with tackling Harks & Mudd's 'Susta' and turns out two versions. His opening remix is all grown up Balearic sounds. Gentle percussion is scattered over the leggy house drums, noodling Rhodes chords bring colour and a breathy female vocal layers in the sun kissed soul. It's an immediate classic. On the flip comes his dub, which is more fleshy and elastic, but with just as much soul and warmth.

Review: Tokyo-based independent label Infodump follows up its inaugural EP with a new release from owner Takuro Hasumi. 'Ticktack' opens his account with lithe, droning synth lines which are layered up next to organic percussion and dark bass energy that keeps you on edge. 'Wilderness' then flips the script with a much more bright and trippy melodic mix over minimal drums and last of all is 'The Fall'. This one is another intriguing mix of silvery synth shimmers and stripped-back drum programming that locks you in the moment. The fresh EP comes with fresh artwork from Japanese outsider artist Pinksk.

Review: We have a mysterious pressing this week from Hcsvntdracones (however that is pronounced) with what has been best described elsewhere as 'Highly effective House DJ weaponry' and that's fairly spot on! Both sides are reworks of tracks by the legendary Romanthony (RIP). On the A side, we have a trippy minimal techno style rework of his anthem '(The) Wanderer', followed over on the flip by a 303 breakbeat rendition of his 1994 song 'In The Mix' (Acidic Tendencies Edit) most famously remixed by Tony Humphries.

Review: Head High is a ling running alias of Polish techno producer Shed. It's for his more loopy and emotional sounds and has always been popular with DJs. This new EP is a mighty fine return that offers three track sou steamy, summer ready action for sunset and sundown sessions. 'Break Away' has fizzing synth lines and dusty drums with well placed vocals up top. 'Push It!' comes on much stronger, with harder drums and more prickly percussion but another fine vocal that adds that touch of emotion. Last of all is 'Chamber No 6', another dark cut with tightly programmed drums loops, scratching hits and a menacing bassline backlit by diffuse chords.

Review: Alleviated's trawl through the (admittedly limited) back catalogue of Larry Heard's long-forgotten Loosefingers alter ego continues. The three tracks here were originally released back in 2004 on the When Summer Comes EP, and see Heard at his deepest and most sensual. The ten-minute title track is particularly gorgeous, sounding like a blueprint for all those hazy "beach house" releases that followed in subsequent years. Pleasingly, there's some more aggressive, in-your-face material on the flip, with the rubbery "Transmission X" and bold "Acid Bounce" recalling Heard's more robust, acid house-inclined work (Gherkin Jerks, "Washing Machine" etc). In fact, it's these two cuts that make the EP nigh on essential.

Review: A new label out of Mexico, Short Attention Records launches its second release with a five track offering of proper melodic house & techno from Hector Ram with the word 'quality' stamped large upon them. 'Midnight Sounds' starts things off with the grand rhythmically-building 'Midnight Sounds', almost New Order-esque at times. 'For Our Small Parties' follows, old skool again in flavour, blending subtly employed breaks and a sturdy house framework, then 'Dear Dancefloor', probably the gentlest and most fragile effort here, opens side two. 'On The Road' boasts a more electro feel and Orbital-esque synths, and is deemed worthy of a second airing via a nicely throbbing remix from Detroit's Generation Next closing proceedings.

Four choice minimal/tech house cuts are featured on the Kotsu Kotsu EP: the rolling and ethereal main room affair '20K3' nails that Rominimal sound, followed by the trippy and paranoid microhouse of 'Doble Cara'. Review: Heidy P is a long time associate of the Rocksteady Disco crew and now she treats them to her first ever solo release in the form of Elevate. It is, as you'd expect of her, a house record through and through, but one packed with plenty of her own charm and personality. Opener 'Elevate' is a classy and jazz-tinged, Latin-styled groove that will electrify any floor. Next is the hugely emotive, soulful and gospel drenched 'Help Me Find My Way' with uplifting vocals from Seta. He has done so on the likes of Bliss Point, Coloring Lessons and Darker Than Wax before now and here arrives on People Of Earth with more compelling cuts. 'Move On Up' is a steamy and sweaty house thumper with impassioned vocal swirls, 'All Mine' layers in some heavenly melodies that manage to uplift the mood in a subtle fashion and 'Feeling Like Larry' references the great Mr Heard, surely, with its balmy cosmic pads and spiritual house depths. Review: Darker Than Wax welcomes back Malik Hendricks for a new EP that was recorded in Brooklyn in 2020 and 2021 by the American-born, Lisbon-based producer. And it marks something of a shift in his musical journey as he moves away from the sample-heavy sound he is known for and towards more organic grooves with hints of Midwest funk and techno. There is an electro flavour to the opener, sleazy ghetto house flourish to 'Fiyahverkx' and broken beat minimalism to 'Totem.' On the flip comes 'The Money Dance' which is the best of the lot - a soul-drenched and elastic house jam with quality chords and keys.

Review: Who or what is or are Henk Donkers? We don't know, and we don't care, cause the music they make is bang on. This new and amusingly entitled EP arrives via the always cultured Wolf Music and is immediately effective. Henk Donkers X Ell Murphy's 'Without You' is classic house with depth and drive, soulful vocals and nice sustained chords. 'Dope' is more intense for the strobe lit late night hours and then its back to balmy and loved up grooves with the busy chord work of New Jersey style house kicker 'With You'. This varied EP is not done yet, as closer 'Pink Horse' explores another sone - dusty downbeat house with noodling chords that recall early Mood Hut tunes.

Review: Darcoform digs deep into abstract last night sound worlds and trippy electronics with this fresh four track various artists EP. Herck kicks it off with the squelchy bass and mangled cello sounds of 'Lady Lydia' which has paranoid vocals appearing throughout. RQZ's 'Soapbox' is a deft mix of skittish drum loops and low slung bass sounds and Cim Pian warps space and time with the modulated synth designs of 'Semiotics' and its slippery minimal rhythms. Escu & Salishteanul then pair up to close out the EP with more synthetic orchestral manoeuvres in the form of 'Tura12'.

Review: As evidenced by the cover of this latest EP, Belgian house artist Hermanez has his head in the clouds. Similarly, if we were to liken the weight of his productions to a cloud, it would probably be a dense cumulonimbus, ready to pour it all down on us. That's because every track on this bit has extra-special, nuanced attention paid to its drums, all of which are backed up by immense, emotive bassweight to boot.

Review: Oliver Hess made his first appearance way back in 2006, producing alongside Harada on Pearldiver Records. We didn't hear any more from him for a fair while, but then in 2018 he resurfaced with some quality tech house gear via the Musik Is Egall label out of Cologne. Now Hess is back for a third instalment with 'Don't Be Anybody Else', a mid-tempo chugger with an acidic bite just crying out for a dark n' dirty basement. On the flip, the tempo ramps up considerably as Orlando Voorn takes the reins for a remix bristling with Detroit techno intensity.

Review: British electronic music producer Hidden Spheres creates music characterised by warm and soulful house beats with elements of jazz, disco, and funk. He has released music on labels such as Lobster Theremin, Rhythm Section International and Distant Hawaii - his latest comes via the latter's new incarnation: Distant Horizon. The Waiting EP features the breezy and lo-slung deepness of the title track, with more balmy mood music to follow on 'Upsndown' on the first side. Over on the flip, the dusty, emotive late night jam 'Be A Man' calls to mind classic Moodymann followed by the hypnotising slo-mo disco journey 'Bill Loves You'.

Review: Fledgling but already well-formed French label Endangered Musique mints a new series here, Easy Trax Part 1, with four 90s-tinged house cuts. The Sexy Mix of Higher Level's 'Sax Maniac' opens up with loopy sax lines and throwback drums in a tune that is easy to love. There is a more sweaty, New Jersey style to Native Groove's pumping and dubby 'I Need A Man' before Side Kick's 'I Got The Hots' comes in two forms. The Hot dub loops a recognisable melodic pattern over chunky but deep drums and the Hot mix layers up bright, neon-hued chord stabs over an unresolved groove.

Review: Reptile Mob is a newly launched, vinyl-only sub-label of the well-regarded GLBDOM imprint. It kicks off with a five-track various artists release that pays homage to the garage sound. 'Don't Know It' by Highrise opens up with a distantly 90s vibe, then Sky Joose shows his class on 'On The Shores' with its hard-edged bassline and full-throttle drums. Johnny U-Tah works some re-pitched and time-stretched vocals to perfection on 'Voices In My Head', with further gems from The Thunderkats whose 'Melatron' is a piano-laced bumper and last of all Jay Ward's 'Everything That I Need' brims with vocal lushness. A top draw start for sure.

Review: Jerome Hill is having a fine year - back in February he turned out his superb Flow Mechanics album on Hypercolour and now he is back on Super Rhythm Trax with a fire four-track electro and house outing. The opener 'The Warning' is a prickly one with acidic lines and raw, chattering claps making for a menacing vibe. 'Harlesden Shuffle' (extended 12" Disco mix) is then a wonky disco-tinged minimal cut with Wagon Repair-style synth leads and plenty of acid stabs. There is plenty of bite to the jacked-up B-side cut 'Combustion Zone' then 'House Thing' rounds out with early Chicago vibes, dusty drums and naughty basslines.

Review: German producer Simon Hinter has been quiet for the last year. But now, 12 months after his last outing, the quietly assured artist is backed with three more of his raw, funky, filtered and chunky house grooves. They come after years of superb sounds on the likes of Tenth Circle, Suspected and Phil Holland and have previously been supported by DJs like Osunlade. 'Pushin On' takes that well known vocal sample and reworks it into a toughened house beat, 'Together' cuts loose on more disco-fried sounds and samples and 'Trashcamp' rounds out with a dusty, stripped back and dubbed house tune for cosy basements.

Review: Detroit native Jason Hogans has a scattered discography dating back over 20 years. his new one for Alelah proves he still has the skills to pay the bills across five tracks of deep, downtown Motor City house. It comes after releases on staples like Planet E and Moods & Grooves and brims with future soul from the off. 'Why Keep Going' has a bright lead melody and wandering bass notes that get you grooving while, 'Big Room Slap' slows it down to a funky boogie and 'Dance While You Weep' layers yup pixelated leads, nagging bass and live sounding drums. The closing brace then explores beat down and broken beat with a rare sense of style and skill.

Review: Detroit native Jason Hogans will not be a familiar name to many, despite the fact he has been putting out music - albeit sporadically - for 20 odd years. A release on Theo Parrish's hero-worshipped Sound Signature will always put you in the spotlight, though, especially when it's as good as this. The artist explores deep Motor City house, percussive broken beats and that shamanistic, off-grid sound that label head Theo Parrish is such a master of. Standouts include the airy, spacious beat work of 'Favorite Coffee Mug' and steamy post-jungle concoction that is 'For My Solids.'

Review: The third and final EP from the ten year anniversary series by French label D3 Elements is another one that offers a wide range of excellent grooves. To kick off, Jason Hogans takes us into woozy late night territory with muffled leads and lazy breaks, then Zopelar heads for the cosmos on his radiant synth laced house offering 'Resolution.' Malik Hendricks keeps it low key and slow with his intimate basement sounds on 'Green Mango' then Meftah rebuilds on a dusty Theo Parrish tip with 'Maha Shatki.' Damar Davis offers pure cosmic deep house lushness on closer 'Kiss In The Dark.'

Review: New and exciting Los Angeles label YKW returns with a second release, this time from Montreal's Ohm Hourani who is well known in hardcore circles for his superb jazzy and minimal stylings. He offers one particularly standout track, 'Herbs Miles,' which mixes up a sample of Herbie Hancock discussing the legendary Miles Davis. His own live-recorded and processed trumpet layers in another soulful edge and makes it a brilliantly original jam. G76/Gojnea76 delivers a weird and wonky remix and then 'Down the Syncussion Hole' is another inventive and rather madcap sound from this studio wizard.

Review: Swiss label Creaked has decided to give over a full 12" to remixes of HRDVISION's 'Captivated Heart' and the results are varied and impressive. It is the cultured electronica of Nathan Fake that kicks things off with some widescreen synth drones, She Spells Doom then brings some twitchy tech house and Shanx goes for something laced with alien effects, gurgling synths and swampy beats. Efemme brings some acid laced minimal funk and Sinistarr brings compelling broken rhythms and icy urban metropolis vibes. HRDVISION himself also steps up with a Hrdvsiovsiivosvsiosvin remix to close out in mad fashion.
