  1. Quiet Revenge (5:25)
  2. Sunday Transit (4:52)
  3. Sunday Transit (dub version) (4:55)
Review: Detroit house hero Kai Alce inaugurates People Of Earth with a stellar EP showcasing his knack for the most soulful of modern, Motor City deep house. First up "Quiet Revenge" has that classic Three Chairs kind of vibe; all soulful deepness that this circle and their extended cast of peers have the knack for, complete with smooth Rhodes piano and dusty rhythms. On the flip "Sunday Transit" is a more straight up deep house jam with female vocals shouting out the lowdown loud and clear; wicked groove on this one. The dub version of this surpasses the vocal for those less keen, but why would you! Great start for a label with serious potential.

  2. Duckberg (6:11)
  3. Positive Pressure (5:49)
  4. Crystal Pool (5:01)
  5. 4B (Dab mix) (6:19)
Review: Aquarian Foundation man Chad Thiessen first donned the Neo Image alias two years ago, delivering a pair of hazy, head-in-the-clouds cuts for Pacific Rhythm's second Rhythms of the Pacific EP. While there are few surprises on this debut solo EP, it nevertheless comes packed with the kind of warm, fluid, drifting and emotion-rich gear that Mood Hut does so well. Highlights include the poignant, slowly unfurling deep house dubbiness of "Winskill Dub", the horizontal house bliss of "Positive Pressure" - all hushed, delay-laden drum machine beats, meandering electronics and enveloping chords - and the glistening, freshwater ambience of "4B (Dab Mix)". "Crystal Pool", a barely percussive shuffle through ultra-deep ambient house territory, is also superb.

Katalox (12")
Cat: IDLE 051. Rel: 19 Apr 18
  1. Katalox (6:08)
  2. Del's Kicks (6:10)
Review: Although he's only on his third release to date, Christian Jay is an Idle Hands boy, through and through. This return to the imprint places him in a convenient position, now able to show the world what 'bass' means to him, and exactly how he likes to construct his hybrid cuts. The lead tune "Katalox" is a suave, minimalistic garage stepper with a two-step stance, wrapped in all sorts of airy ambient waves; "Del's Kicks" is a similar sort of groove, this time breaking out yet more percussive glory. Cold, calculated, and utterly excellent.

  1. Love Letters From Sicily (9:35)
  2. Hope (John Digweed & Nick Muir remix) (7:38)
Review: Originally featured on their celebratory XV compilation back in 2017, Berlin clubbing institution Watergate have reissued one of the the standout tracks here by Hamburger Matthias Meyer and Berlin's Sebastian Waack aka Ryan Davis. The track "Hope" in its original form was a lush and hypnotic drifter, geared for some life-affirming moments on the dancefloor. The rework featured here by the legendary John Digweed takes the track into much more adrenalised and entrancing territory, with its trance arpeggios and tight rhythm arrangement making for great dancefloor dynamics - but the breathtaking orchestral arrangements of the original are left intact. New track "Love Letters From Sicily" could equally have had a home on All Day I Dream - its ethereal daydream qualities make it perfect for a Sunday afternoon rooftop party downtown.

Lavender EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BEEY 003. Rel: 20 May 19
  1. Xhz - "Jazz 2 Jazz" (10:57)
  2. Jake Flory - "14th Groove" (8:28)
  3. Jake Flory - "Distress" (7:55)
Review: The Beeyou label strikes ahead with its third release, continuing to champion warm, musical deep house from a range of emergent producers. XHZ makes a debut appearance here with the epic "Jazz 2 Jazz", which progresses through a woozy nocturnal mood to wind up in an effervescent, Rhodes-soaked finale. Jake Flory keeps things simmering on the tracky but engaging "14th Groove", before following up with the effortlessly cool chord drops of "Distress". With melodious invention at its heart and the needs of the dancefloor well catered for, the Beeyou crew have delivered another essential package for discerning spinners.

Cat: KITJEN 009. Rel: 18 Sep 19
  1. Solar Surfing (8:24)
  2. Native Power (5:35)
  3. Avocado Conception (4:59)
Review: Given that Fantastic Man's last outing on Kitjen, 2016's "Galactic Ecstasy", was one of his more interesting and on-point releases to date, hopes are high for this belated return to the German label. First up in "Solar Surfing", a spacey affair built around stuttering machine drums, intergalactic electronics and a thickset bassline. Acid-fired workout "Native Power" follows, with psychedelic TB-303 lines and minimalist bleeps riding a flowing electro groove, before closing cut "Avocado Conception" sees the Australian combine Balearic-minded synthesizer flourishes and bubbly acid lines with a slower groove. Like the rest of the EP, it's ear pleasing but surprisingly off-kilter.
