ENDZ 026 (heavyweight splattered vinyl 12")
Cat: ENDZ 026. Rel: 19 Mar 19
  1. What Is The Point (8:58)
  2. Udont (9:19)
  3. Little Walker (8:25)
  4. Cavity (8:23)
Review: Given that both label and artist have a reputation for rarely missing the mark, you'd expect this Eastenderz outing from Vlad Arapasu to be pretty darn good. It is, of course, with the Romanian flitting between glitchy, undulating and hypnotic late-night minimalism (see "Udont" and the bleeping, bass-heavy tech-house space of "Cavity") and bolder material that's surprisingly upbeat in tone. In this category you'll find opener "What Is The Point", where a rubbery synthesizer bassline and cut-up vocal samples bounce away atop a crunchy tech-house groove, and the darker, dirtier and more intergalactic flex of EP highlight "Little Walker".

  1. Akman's Rhythm (6:43)
  2. Old Hands (7:46)
  3. Anaconda Legs (5:24)
  4. A Moment To Breathe (7:09)
Review: "Brighton-based producer Caldera joins up with Boogie Box Records offering four broken techno cuts titled '13 17'.
Originally from Germany, Caldera has been making steady progress within the off kilter techno scene whether as a resident at Brighton's Patterns, or releases on WNCL Recordings, Noorden and his Riviera Club label. His first production outing of the year so far, Caldera now joins Boogie Box's ever impressive roster of artists, following quality releases from the likes of STL, Cain, Causa and Appleblim, not to mention remixes from Shed, Forest Drive West, Fold, Jonas Friedlich and Juniper.
Kicking things off, 'Akman's Rhythm' deploys organic rolling percussion fused harmoniously over the intricate, outlandish melody and fluid bass line whilst 'Old Hands' delivers spaced-out, leftfield drums balanced with soothing resonance and warm vibrations.
'Anaconda Legs' offers dusty grooves throughout, keeping it deep and fluid through subtle, fluttering synths and hypnotic oscillations. Finally, 'A Moment To Breathe' pitches things down, incorporating a darker atmosphere as unfolding chugged out pulsations join recondite ambience.

The Juuc Miks EP (Joe Corti remix) (140 gram vinyl 12" 再出版)
Cat: KYOKU 007. Rel: 18 Mar 19
  1. Strygere & Klaver (6:13)
  2. Strygere & Klaver (Joe Corti remix) (6:17)
  3. Joe's Gruv Juuc (5:50)
  4. Easy Listening Miks Juuc (6:30)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Niles Cooper had a very productive past year, and he strides into 2019 with some of his most refined productions to date. Melbourne label Kyoku is the latest outpost to carry his funky wares, and "The Juuc Miks EP" leads in with the sumptuous delights of "Strygere & Klaver," which then gets swiftly remixed into a peppy deep house jam by Joe Corti. On the B side Cooper starts flexing with some heavy samples to create a deadly heads down jam on "Joe's Gruv Juuc", before rounding the record off with the piano-lead pump of "Easy Listening Miks Juuc".

  2. Mild At Heart (5:46)
  3. Down In A Bubble (7:18)
  4. Surviving Desire (6:22)
  5. Mild At Heart (original version) (6:31)
Review: Dirk-Jan Hanegraaff, Gert-Jan Bijl and Mark Ripmeester released more music via more aliases than you've had Nandos... The proliferation of electronic gold coming from their Dutch laboratory is staggering. Celebrating 25 years, It's Thinking was one of the most significant projects of the time. Flexing from the darkest dancefloor to the lightest of lounges, the document is still as immersive and innovative as it was in 92. The title track (famously remixed by Bushwacka years later) is the epitome of everything about early 90s house while "Surviving Desire" is a darker exploration of techno and the then-burgeoning influence of Detroit while in between we have the daydreamy synth melodies of "Down In A Bubble" and the joyous house uplift of "Mild At Heart". Still resonating hard to this day, there's no overthinking this one.

Moving In (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AAH 010V.23. Rel: 18 Mar 19
  1. Gozo Carnival (6:05)
  2. Euphoria Jamz (7:13)
  3. Where's The Chutney? (6:02)
Review: Mato takes us on an eclectic bass-driven journey with Moving In, his debut release and latest from Euphoria Records. The EP opens with the tribal rhythms of 'Gozo Carnival', a laid back groove that sets the scene for the vinyl. Euphoria Jamz follows with something best described as a late night ghetto jam while 'Where's the Chutney?' drives the record on with a thick dose of meandering bass.

Mato, hailing from the ancient island of Malta, keeps one foot in Berlin's club culture, the other deep in Malta's energetic party scene which he has been instrumental in for over a decade; curating distinctive dance events and introducing artists such as Ryan Elliot, Margaret Dygas, tINI, and Enzo Siragusa. Mato's most recent venture is 'Mute', an intimate open-air club which he co-created and where he is also resident DJ.

Morning (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: MEAN 028. Rel: 18 Mar 19
  1. Acid End (9:12)
  2. Tracing Lines (6:12)
  3. Untitled (7:03)
  4. Isolate(For Pav) (7:55)
Review: Probably the most requested releases from the back catalogue, meanwhile finally presents 4 more tracks by legendary remote_. The EP gathers together Acid End and Tracing Lines from the limited cdr smallfish label which Mike used to run along with managing the legendary shop of the same name, along with Isolate, from the Home Normal label, and Untitled which is previously unreleased. Its impossible to pick a stand out track given the quality and depth of all 4 tracks, none of which tracks have appeared on vinyl before now, despite many requests over the years for Acid end in particular, a deep diving cut full of of the trademark pads, chords, and intrecate percussion, deep basslines that the artist is known for, and of course some subte 303 to finish the track off. Tracing lines is a more spacious atmospheric number, which morphs from it's initial electrorhythms into a 4/4 adding delicate meoldies and idm motifs. Untitled lures you in with it's swelling icy pads before heading deep into the dancefloor with it's crisp beats and some subtle chords. Finishing the EP in the way it starts is isolate, full of dubby delayed chords, rolling percussion, and bubbling basslines. The icing on the cake is the mastering by Rashad from D&M, the man responsible for mastering most of the early releases on meanwhile, including the now legendary remote_ EP's, so don't leave this one in your cart for long.

Review: In the early 2000s Derek Carr's notoriety for producing high fidelity techno was understated and unbefitting to the quality of his musical output. In 2016 For Those That Knoe initiated an acclaimed series of EPs which showcased unheard material alongside some long lost vinyl only classics from Derek's archive. Cut to now and the imprint has put together something truly special: a raid on dusty record shelves have been traded for one into the binary world, For Those That Knoe has selected 17 recordings only previously available on the digital format or previously unreleased, now remastered and pressed onto physical form.

Invisibility Chapter I (2xLP 再出版)
Cat: SUSH 045. Rel: 18 Mar 19
  1. Elevation (7:59)
  2. Layers (7:48)
  3. Exhibit (7:32)
  4. Block (7:31)
  5. Waiting (8:10)
Review: Fans of stripped-back, minimalist techno - particularly the Eastern European variant focused around Romania's thriving scene - will happily tell you that every release from Christi Cons and Vlad Caia's Sideways Invisibility Theory project (AKA SIT) is worth checking. This, a double-pack containing half of the tracks from their new album (a second part is also available) is certainly noteworthy. It features a quintet of trippy, low-slung late night workouts seemingly designed to operate in the cracks between tech-house and minimal techno. There are naturally subtle variations throughout - a nod to dub techno here, a psychedelic acid line or dreamy deep house texture there - but throughout, their focus remains firmly on wonky early morning workouts.
