Os To EP (140 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: AXS 1. Rel: 17 Jun 19
  1. Os To (Johnny DJ Allstar Bubble Gum mix) (7:47)
  2. Fest Pa Taget (Tandooris partii mix) (5:39)
Review: From Copenhagen with love. After two years of planning, tweaking and fine-tuning, Danish groove monkeys Kasper Marott and Alfredo92 are proud to present their new label Axces. Repping their local crew, the label represents a community of artists including this single's co-producers Carl Emil and Lauge. "Os To" (which translates to 'the two of us') is as cute as it sounds. Dreamy, cosy, unhurried. "Fest Pa Taget" (party on the roof) raises the psychedelic factor a little as unearthly bubbles and chimes spin 360 around a jaunty rolling percussive beat. The start of something exciting and fresh; everyone has access to Axces.

  25. Tugendhat (outro)
Review: Having not released an album since starting his recording career almost a decade ago, Mr Tophat clearly thinks he has some catching up to do. His debut full-length is something of an epic, charting an imaginary journey from dusk to dawn inspired by a month the Swedish producer spent living in Ibiza. The first disc (part one) starts sun-kissed, soft-focus and Balearic, before the Swede launches into a series of percussive and punchy, club-ready cuts. He ups the intensity on the more vocal-heavy second disc - look out for a great hook-up with Axel Boman - before he replicates the slow creep of sunrise via a third disc full to bursting with starry ambience, tactile Balearic beats and the odd juddering dancefloor workout.

  9. I'll Follow You (6:57)
  10. Aftermath AM (7:21)
Review: Somewhat poetically, Anthony Naples describes his third album, "Fog FM", as a "house music transmission filtered through fluorescent static, from a station out of place and time". You'll certainly find some blasts of evocative radio static dotted around the album - see the drowsy wooziness of ambient numbers "Channel 2" and "Channel 3", not to mention the pops and crackles wrapped around sub-heavy, stripped back peak-time workout "Unhygenix" - but the lasting impression is of a smartly-produced set of mostly club-ready cuts that subtly doff a cap to many sub-genres of house and techno. It's a superb set, too, with highlights including the wayward techno intensity of "Benefit", the "Brown Album"-era Orbital heaviness of "Purple Iris" and the tough, dubbed-out deep house headiness of "Lucys".

  3. That's How Lovers Be (Scott Grooves That How dubs Be) (8:52)
Review: The Mysticisms label once more turns its attention to rarefied gold dust from the annals of deep house history, this time shining a light on Soiree Records, which was helmed by cult favourite Drivetrain. Nu-C Zn's "That's How Lovers Be" was an unconventional but oh so sweet curio back in 1995, and now it's been revived with Drivetrain delivering a new mix of the track that lets the smoky keys, plastic sax and gorgeous vocals hover tentatively. UK house stalwart Nail is up next with a bumping, crafty update on the track, while Scott Grooves lays down honey-coated keys that shift the mood of Nu-C Zn's original into a different emotional headspace.

Sunspear (12")
Cat: BEAR 0012. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Sunspear (4:34)
  2. Tru Dancing (5:51)
Review: Earlier in the year, sometime Blip Discs and Ninja Tune man O'Flynn (real name Ben Norris) returned to action after a two-year absence. Here he attempts to keep up the pressure via a double A-side single on Silver Bear Recordings. "Sunspear" is little less than a rushing blast of summery dancefloor brilliance - a percussively dense and smile inducing house jam rich in filtered horns, throaty funk vocalizations and what we assume are samples from a cheery Brazilian disco record. A similar production approach be can be heard on the flip, where O'Flynn delivers a lolloping, bass-heavy revision of a lesser-known disco funk cut. It's suitably heavy, but also boasts the kind of rubbery rhythmic swing that's rarely heard on similar exercises in sample-heavy filter house.

  4. You're Maybe The One (5:20)
  5. Keep This Thing (4:26)
Review: Following 2017 and 2018 outings on Concrete Music and Bass Culture Records, French producer Leo Pol returns to the Iile imprint he founded in 2016. There's plenty to admire across the five included tracks, from the rubbery acid bass, sweaty drums and glassy-eyed melodic breakdowns of opener "626 Mafia", to the sturdy beats, hustling drum fills, filter-laden chords and sweet vocal samples of closing cut "Keep This Thing". Leo's collaboration with Max Ulis, "On My Face", is a thrillingly high-octane fusion of ghetto-house, techno and woozy New Jersey garage, while "FEM" is an acid-flecked chunk of sun-kissed deep house breeziness that sounds like it could have been made in Italy in 1992.

  7. St Ouen Connexion - Masile (7:16)
Review: Fresh from the success of two top notch EPs on iile, Leo Pol unveils his most ambitious release to date. All I Got In Me is something of a beast, with seven tracks stretched across two slabs of wax. It's a rather pleasingly varied affair, all told, with the experienced producer flitting between Detroit style techno futurism ("BH2"), warm, chunky and occasionally tough deep house ("All I Got In Me", "Live Concrete"), spacey beatbox electro ("Live Love") and the kind of tech-house cuts that look to both the Motor City and Chicago for inspiration. As a bonus, he's also included a collaborative cut under the St Ouen Connection moniker, the deep and hazy, techno-tempo positivity of "Masile".

Rattlesnake (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: PETS 105. Rel: 19 Jun 19
  1. Rattlesnake (6:18)
  2. Rattlesnake (Magda Blotter Traxion remix) (6:25)
  3. Rattlesnake (Vyvyan remix) (6:56)
Review: While their obscure disco and Balearic re-edits tend towards the warm and groovy, Psychemagik's original productions have been getting increasingly tough and druggy in tone. "Rattlesnake", a hypnotic chunk of club-ready psychedelic disco rich in wonky electronics, trippy riffs, mind-altering bass and locked-in drums, may well be their most intoxicating and hallucinatory track to date. The duo's out-there original mix is made even weirder - and arguably more alluring - by Magda on her "Blotter Traxion Remix", which sounds like a tripping hippie trying to simultaneously mix electro, tech-house and techno. Vyvyan provides the other rework, wrapping doom-laden electronics and fizzing acid lines around crispy disco drums.

  2. They Will (7:15)
  3. Rampa & WhoMadeWho - "Tell Me Are We" (6:56)
  4. Lavender Boogie (7:20)
Review: Keinemusik co-founder Gregor Sutterlin AKA Rampa is the latest addition to the Innervisions roster. His debut EP for the imprint is dancefloor-friendly and for the most part club ready, but also slightly more experimental and off-kilter in ethos than you'd perhaps expect from Ame and Dixon's long-running label. Check first the non-stop A-side suite of tracks, where the oddball electronics and effects-laden looped vocals of "79249 (Intro)" seamlessly segues into the ghostly lead lines, thrusting arpeggio bass, creepy effects and locked-in techno drums of "They Will". Radiohead-influenced vocal number "Tell Me Are We" is a glassy-eyed outsider tech-house collaboration with WhoMadeWho, while "Lavender Boogie" is a richly percussive affair rich in ice cream van chimes, dense African percussion and hushed tech-house tones.

Vortex (12")
Cat: KOMPAKT 403. Rel: 11 Jun 19
  1. Vortex (7:37)
  2. Elektromekanik (6:42)
Review: Times have changed since Jake Williams first donned the Rex The Dog alias for Kompakt in 2004, but his ability to deliver ear-pleasing, synth-heavy dancefloor cuts has never faltered. "Vortex", the lead cut from the producer's first EP on 2019, is a particular potent example of his art, with Williams building and releasing tension via sparse, spacey lead lines, new wave style synth chords, matter-or-fact techno beats, trance-inducing motifs and some suitably mind-altering breakdowns. It's arguably his strongest club cut for years and certainly the most alluring. Over on side B, "Elektromekanik" sees Williams brilliantly alternate between moments of loved-up, rush-inducing dreaminess and thrillingly angular, hard-wired modular electronics.

The Four Slip EP (heavyweight vinyl 12")
Cat: FUSE 036. Rel: 17 Jun 19
  1. E3 (7:56)
  2. Bubbles (7:10)
Review: London's FUSE returns with more expertly curated tech house by two of the scene's major players: label staple Rich NxT and Eastenderz honcho East End Dubs. A side houses the tripped-out, tough rolling bounce of "E3" with its squelchy stabs, booming sub bass and swing-fuelled rhythms while on the flip, a fierce banger in the form of "Bubbles" which will no doubt get the crowd moving with its heady 303 acid, airy chords and locked-in drums. Note: drop at 7AM for maximum impact.
