Review: John Frusciante of Red Hot Chilli Peppers fame has always had a fine outlet to explore his passion for electronic music courtesy of the Los Angeles label and 303 lovers at Acid Test. He's turned out plenty of EPs and LPs now and 2023 kicks off with his latest offering I. It is a double album with the scones part II also forming his first new solo material since 2020. He has said of the rather sculptural album: "This music was made from sequences which never exceed a single note, many of these pieces being made on a single pattern."

Review: Like many electronic musicians, Stefan "SW" Wust has kept himself busy during the ongoing global pandemic. Here he presents the first fruits of his lockdown labours, a brand-new full-length excursion via Acid Test offshoot Avenue 66. It's a typically eccentric affair, mixing rave-igniting, retro-futurist heaviness with deeper, slower and jazzier cuts informed by the 1990s chill-out movement. Club-focused highlights include twisted, dubbed-out and acid-fired opener 'ELEctreC', the sub-heavy post-D&B skittishness of 'meanDreaMbeam' and the mutant hardcore breakbeat quirkiness of 'radeDARKpaid', while those seeking more horizontal fare should take a gander at luscious ambient closing cut 'ambienTRAND', the soothing and seductive 'JAZZmassLESS' and the immersive, Pete Namlook-influenced 'esCAPEdeepCREEP'.

Review: SW is a rather elusive character but not if you are the Avenue 66 label. This, OkALGORYTHM, is his third album for them and it is another intriguing musical wondering and wandering. The production is as ever with this artist rather sublime, as it brings imaginative sounds to life that are all inspired by all-night electronic radio shows of the '90s. 'WHAtADAYray' kicks off with smudged, knotted synth sounds that never resolve, there are serene techno moments like 'StepCLASSixMOtor' and rhythmically inventive cuts like the scuffed loops, metallic shimmer and lo-fi textures of 'TROPyCALLhystrIA.'

Review: Following up an impressive debut on Baaz's Office Recordings in 2016, the mysterious Trux return with a collection of dubby ambient electronica and experimentalism on Orbiter, for Avenue 66 - which has previously presented works by Joey Anderson and Lowtec. This diverse album takes in a wide variety of moods: lush and aquatic deep techno as heard on the title track or "My Row". Tracks like "Blinko" are hazy, texturised, beatless excursions geared for armchair journeys, while "In My World" or "Angoma" respectively delve deep into exotic electronica - much in the vein of artists on French label Antinote. A stunning and cohesive effort which indeed has been very much worth the wait.
