Frequency (Luke Vibert remix)
Frequency (DMX Krew Asylum Seekers remix)
Frequency (AGT Rave Cru remix)
Frequency (Killa Productions '91 Revival mix)
Review: Any record featuring Luke Vibert, DMX Krew and the collective talents of Ben Sims, Mark Broom and Paul Mac under their Killa Productions moniker is likely to cause a stir. Factor in that they've all been commissioned to remix Altern8's stone cold classic "Frequency" and we have a genuine contender for techno record of the week! Props to the always excellent Balkan Vinyl for making this happen and for pressing the twelve on the only colour possible - bright yellow vinyl. Vibert gleefully veers through the genres on a remix that pays little heed to concept of catching one's breath. In contrast DMX Krew focuses on one specific genre, namely hardcore rave acid breakbeat freakery. It's matched in the throwback stakes by the B Side efforts - take your pick of the AGT Rave Cru remix which brandishes a truly evil bassline or the Killa Productions proto jungle demented drum workout.

Mark Archer - "We Jack The House"
Ben Pest - "Schedule Acid"
Posthuman - "Don't Rush"
Chevron - "Vishnu 303"
Review: Drum machines, synths and sequencers are alive and kicking on this various artist EP from, Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl label which features Horror Boogie's Ben Pest and Planet Mu artist Chevron. Mark Archer, a name familiar to Balkan Vinyl, opens the EP with an electrified piece of four-to-the-floor techno funk, while Ben Pest boils down the instrumentation in "Scheduled Acid" for a track that sounds like a cooler version of Mylo's "Muscle Car". Posthuman takes the EP into spacey, Detroit, 909 techno territory with "Don't Rush", while Chevron powers up his 303 to supply a track as cheeky and acidic as what Killekill's Affie Yusuf can muster.

Review: Rising British duo Black Girl/White Girl are back with a new release this week on Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl. Karin and Ty have been earning their stripes lighting up dancefloors with their energetic style dipping into techno, house, disco, electro, and rave territories. This one is titled 777 Squadron. It features the mesmerizing jack of 'Phaeses', the minimal acid wiggle of 'Flaming Dragon' and over on the flip the thunderous warehouse stomp of the title track.

Perseus Traxx - "Amphitheatre Of Joppa" (7:15)
Posthuman - "Turn My Tape Up" (7:51)
Paul Mac - "Borrow The Sound" (5:22)
Review: Balkan Recordings return with a third edition of their Mutant City Acid series. On the A side Cardopusher gives us some vintage Chicago acid reminiscent of DJ Bam Bam on the ferocious "Facelifter" while Perseus Traxx gives us the spooky "Amphitheatre of Joppa" which builds the suspense a lot like another certain classic by Suburban Knight; you know the one! On the B side we've got "Turn My Tape Up" by Posthuman. Not just another apt slogan for the new generation but a wicked track to boot! With its driving arpeggio that later morphs into 303 style acid and rusty drums; this one's got all you need! Finally UK techno legend Paul Mac appears too! "Borrow The Sound" sees him taking time out from engineering for the likes of Ben Sims to throw down a sturdy example of dark side electro that'd make Silicon Scally and Scape One stand up and notice.

Posthuman - "Meat Market" (4:02)
Han Do Jin - "Drive Less" (5:23)
Review: Balkan Vinyl and its TB-303 obsessed offshoot I Love acid enjoyed a hugely successful 2017, so hopes are naturally high for the Chicago jack-inspired imprint's first EP of 2018. Predictably, the compilation style affair is packed full of rock solid box jams and mind-altering peak-time workouts. Highlights include the ragged acid lines and bouncy, ghetto-house style beats of Granary 12's "Manc Mania", the futurist Detroit melodies of Matt Whitehead's "Transmit Frequency", the no-nonsense acid house psychedelia of Posthuman's "Meat Market" and the slowed-down intensity of Han Do Jin's "Drive Less". Oh, and the Adonis style swing of Chevron's on-point opener, "Hitman & Her" (which, thankfully, doesn't feature a cameo from Pete Waterman and Michaela Strachan).

What Goes Around Comes Around (acappella) (2:35)
Review: There is never any messing about with the music served up by Balkan Vinyl: it is direct to dancefloor, fad-free tackle that wants only to get you jacking. Italian XXXL queer acid-disco duo Hard Ton are masters of exactly that and come through once more here with irresistible goodies. 'Release' has it all - the bendy acid, the chattery percussion, the raw drums. 'Tessio Acidio' has a touch of new beat rigidity to it that makes you jerk to the angular synths and then comes a more deep and bendy acid house sound on 'What Goes Around Comes Around' before two acappellas round this one out.

Global Goon - "Craehzrhd" (4:19)
B12 - "Proximity" (4:00)
Review: This superb, six-track assault on the senses gathers together some of the most sought-after cuts from the Balkan Vinyl and I Love Acid vaults, five of which have never before been seen on wax. There's naturally plenty to set the pulse racing throughout, from the wild, lo-fi acid stomp of LFO's "I Love Acid" and the late Andreas Gehm's "Heaven & Hell", to the breakbeat-drive rave madness of Luke Vibert's "Acid Hitler" and the gentle braindance shuffle of Plaid's "Hui". Arguably best of all, though, is B12's "Proximity", which sounds like an electro re-make of LFO's "LFO" with added clandestine creepiness.

Review: London duo Posthuman step up for the latest release on their own Balkan Vinyl imprint and doing what they do best; serious throwback acid sound! "It's A House Thing" is a dark, deep house affair with pitch shifted vocals singing the said refrain over an epic 303 bassline. Then comes the remix by the legendary Mark Archer aka Trackman/Altern8 who as you would expect; shows us how it's all done! On the flip is "Try Again" which is yet another wicked retro acid house jam executed brilliantly while "B-Loop" lays off the resonance knob of the 303 and lets the breakbeat over the 4/4 and stuttered vocals do all the work.

Airstrip One (6:59)
Hack Jammer (LDLDN remix) (6:23)
Review: I Love Acid founders Posthuman are naturally most often associated with drum-machine-driven, TB-303 sporting jacking house, though in truth their output has always been far more varied than that. As if to prove that point, 'Hack Jammer' is not a straight-up acid house monster, but rather a deliciously rubbery, loose-limbed number that sits somewhere between electro, hip-house and acid, with rugged TB-303 motifs twisting themselves around a weighty sub-bass boom and crispy breakbeats. Bonus cut 'Airstrip 1', meanwhile, is bleep-laden acid-electro sleaziness of the highest quality. Elsewhere across the EP, you'll find contrasting takes on 'Hack Jammer' - a pulsating acid techno version from WTCHKRFT, and a hard-to-pigeonhole, synth-heavy rework from LDNLDN - and a punchy electro revision of 'Airstiop 1' courtesy of DJ Karawai.

Memory Child (Acid Tool mix) (5:44)
Review: Following some terrific releases from label boss Posthuman, Acidulant and The Subdermic, London's Balkan Vinyl are back with more retro flavoured jams courtesy of T&K Crew - a coming together of some serious house music legends. The veteran Terry Farley teams up with Kevin Swain of D.O.P. for a tunnelling acid house trip on "Memory Child". Kirk Degiorgio of As One and Machine fame hops onboard next, to deliver a sublime remix that displays his penchant yet again for creating exceptional hi-tech soul. For venturing deeper down into the vortex, you could also try the handy Acid Tool mix on the flip, which works the glide and resonance of that little silver Roland box to even more dramatic effect.

Review: The third volume of the Metro Jaxx series on Balkan is another banger. 'She Don't Want You' is a stark and acid laced anthem with bendy bass. It tugs you in many different directions at once and is a fine opening salvo. From there, acid takes many forms - liquid and playful on 'Trip Hazard' and blistering caustic on Elliot damsons 'No Acid.' The flip side has hardcore breaks and wild 303 gurgles from 'Acidulant', strobe lit rave from 'Echaskech' and sleazy ghetto sounds from The Wasp on his EP highlight 'Shooders.'

Luke Vibert - "Still In Love"
Luke Vibert - "Android Webber"
Posthuman - "Grad"
Posthuman - "Forever Circles"
Review: Balkan Vinyl has a strong resume of releasing excellent 90s inspired IDM and electro since the first release in 2010. Veteran producers Posthuman (Cousins Richard Bevan and Joshua Doherty) own and run the UK label. For this release they call upon a legendary friend Luke Vibert, to make a staggeringly great, joint EP. 'Still In Love' kicks off the record and brings Luke's familiar acid techniques to the party while sampling classic 80s and 90s dance tracks and samples within it. 'Android Webber' is quintessential sound Vibert is known for that balances a quirky IDM grit and a downtempo slow jam. For the B-Side, Posthuman offers the futuristic electro stormer 'Grad' followed by the sexy, slow burner 'Forever Circles'. A match made in acid house heaven.

Review: After his debut on I Love Acid last year, Brooklyn-based DJ & producer WTCHCRFT is back this week with a proper release on Posthuman's Balkan Vinyl, with four awesome tracks on the Drugs Here EP. The title track is a belting percolator jack laced with acid, followed by the off-kilter 'No Time To Lose'. On side B there's the pumping strobe-light groove of 'Uhmm' featuring druggy vocal snippets and finally the gnarly peak time cut 'Run It Bak Attak' going out all guns blazing. Hand numbered edition of 666 copies, randomly assigned to either red marbled heavyweight 180g wax.
