The Bumble EP
The Bumble EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BEEY 004. Rel: 24 Feb 20

Minimal/Tech House
Julian Anthony - "Raspberry Flurry" (6:27)
Rossi - "Yen" (7:21)
Azire - "Dats Rill" (7:22)
Xhz - "Some Soul" (8:14)
Review: The fourth release on BEEYOU comes from another stellar cast of emergent talents and underground operators, leading in with Julian Anthony and the garage-tinted tech house tough nut, "Raspberry Flurry". Rossi is up next with the cheeky, bouncy-as-hell "Yen" (watch out for that bassline), which sets us up nicely for the smooth strains being unfurled by Azire on the B-side. "Dats Rill" is soaked in mellow chords, but there's still plenty of slap in the drum section to keep the groove rolling. Xhz maintains the melodious vibe with the choice key chops of "Some Soul", with plenty of micro-sounds zipping around the production to keep things sprightly and playful too.

Bubbling Crew (7:16)
Drop The Bass (8:35)
No White Lines (7:51)
We Need To Have A Think (7:10)
Review: All 4 tracks coming from a mystery selection of The Beeyou Crew, Can you guess who? the seventh instalment in the label brings together the fledging hive of bees for an EP full of colaborations. The A side kicks off the EP with the bouncy beats of Bubbling Crew before coming back for more and double dropping with Drop The Bass on the A2 which is enough to slap the wig off your head. When you flip over to the B the honey keeps dripping with the rolling grooves of No White Lines before rounding off the EP with the driving and slightly spooky We Need To Have A Think

Illi - "Lumiere" (8:04)
Illi - "LDN 101" (7:42)
Joe Rolet - "Stock Float" (6:41)
Joe Rolet - "Sand On Saturn" (6:32)
Review: Spanish label Beeyou kicked off earlier this year with a sterling various artists release that offered up Laidlaw, Ben Ulrich and Kesh as proponents of peppy peak time minimal wares with a garage kink. The second release features Illi and Joe Rolet facing off with a side each, and on "Lumiere" Illi appears to be channeling a little of the magic you would expect to find on mid 00s Plus 8 Records, which is no bad thing. "LDN 101" meanwhile picks up the 2 step flex and matches it with the aesthetics of contemporary deep tech house. Joe Rolet has a heavy ambience hovering over the crafty programming of "Stock Float," while "Sand On Saturn" takes a more trippy, spaced out approach that sits just right on his crisp, inventive beats.

Nectar EP
Nectar EP (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BEEY 001. Rel: 16 Jul 18

Minimal/Tech House
Laidlaw - "Be Yourself" (8:47)
Ben Ulrich - "Bedun" (5:55)
Kesh - "Enebodiom" (7:49)
Kesh - "We Love You Michael" (6:33)
Review: REPRESS ALERT: Hailing from Ibiza, Beeyou makes its first outing as a label with a strong selection of up and coming talent. Laidlaw is first on the scene with a crafty little minimal number that certainly sounds tailored to the up all night crew with its heady atmosphere, playful swing and micro samples. Ben Ulrich's "Bedun" is equally seductive, playing a trade in stripped down electro that shuns obvious dancefloor moves in favour of pure hypnotism. Kesh holds down the B side with two more maximal offerings that still align with the inventive, sleek aesthetics of the A side tracks. "Enebodiom" is a feel good jam without ever resorting to cheesy melodies or vocal touches - it's a jazzed out variation on positivity in house music. "We Love You Michael" completes the record with a quintessential skittering, swinging house cut that keeps the freakiness in abundance and the drums as funky as possible.

The Digger EP (B-STOCK)
The Digger EP (B-STOCK) (180 gram vinyl 12")
Cat: BEEY 006 (B-STOCK). Rel: 01 Jan 90

Minimal/Tech House
Laidlaw & Le Louche - "AH HA" (8:09)
Julian Anthony - "Zero Gravity" (6:02)
Zach Murray & Jake Kav - "Force Of Nature" (7:35)
Harry Felce - "Tantrum" (6:32)
Review: ***B-STOCK: Sleeve damaged, but otherwise in excellent condition***

The Beeyou crew are buzzing around once again, this time with The Digger EP which sees the return of a few label mainstays as well as some new bees entering the hive. Laidlaw & Le Louche kick off the A1 combining for AH HA. Although the name may sound funny, the beat is anything but that with serious grooves and a wicked bassline. The dutch powerhouse that is Julian Anthony returns to the label with the driving thumper Zero Gravity, which also comes with a "dance floor destroyer" warning attached. On the B side Zach Murray & Jake Kav take us deep & bubbly with Force Of Nature before rising talent Harry Felce rounds things off with Tantrum, a solid rave inspired flavour that combines the best of the 90s with a new UK sound.

The Worker EP
The Worker EP (180 gram vinyl 12")

Minimal/Tech House
Le Louche & Mehlor - "Beat Back To" (6:46)
ADMNTi - "E3 Shaolin" (7:26)
Casey Spillman - "Just A Sip" (6:55)
Joey Jackson - "Made This Wearing One Slipper" (6:04)
Review: BEEYOU Records continue their infatuation with apiculture and bouncy tech house on The Worker EP, featuring another finely selected cast of buzzing beatmakers. Le Louche and Mehlor team up for the sprightly 90s-licked tones of 'Beat Back To', which features a deadly garage hook and a cascade of zippy FX around the nagging swing of the drums. ADMNTi keeps the pressure up with the twitchy delights of 'E3 Shaolin', while Casey Spillman gets busy with some rubbery bass on 'Just A Sip'. Joey Jackson takes things deeper without losing the punch on 'Made This Wearing One Slipper'.

Feel It (6:58)
Feel It (instrumental) (7:03)
Feel It (Garrett David remix) (5:11)
Review: A neat slice of UK house with unorthodox and bleepy elements courtesy of fresh producer Rossi here. 12" 'Feel It' spans everything from breaksteppy hard house to UKG, urging the floorbound masses to "feel alright" through an unapologetic, repetitive insistence in vocal sample form. The instrumental is just as effective, revealing a drummy, hi-NRG underbelly. Garrett David's version is the final garage number, adding curious bell chords and a garage swing.

Xhz - "Jazz 2 Jazz" (10:57)
Jake Flory - "14th Groove" (8:28)
Jake Flory - "Distress" (7:55)
Review: The Beeyou label strikes ahead with its third release, continuing to champion warm, musical deep house from a range of emergent producers. XHZ makes a debut appearance here with the epic "Jazz 2 Jazz", which progresses through a woozy nocturnal mood to wind up in an effervescent, Rhodes-soaked finale. Jake Flory keeps things simmering on the tracky but engaging "14th Groove", before following up with the effortlessly cool chord drops of "Distress". With melodious invention at its heart and the needs of the dancefloor well catered for, the Beeyou crew have delivered another essential package for discerning spinners.
