Review: Six months after their last installment, Shir Khan and Exploited drop another hot to trot collection of disco edits. As usual, there's much to excite, beginning with the familiar guitar solos, Rhodes keys and dub disco pulse of Antilope's "Singing Ghost" rework. Death On The Balcony keep up the reverb and delay-laden dub disco theme on "Addict For Your Love", whose rubbery groove, twinkling pianos and heady vocals have been expertly rearranged to fit house dancefloors. Finally, Matpat go loop crazy on the thumping disco house cut "Only You" which sits somewhere between Rahaan and Soundstream. Excellent stuff all round.

Review: The Shir Khan curated Black Jukebox series rarely disappoints, with the DJ/producer wisely choosing to showcase party-starting cuts that blur the boundaries between original production, remixes and re-edits. There's barely a duffer in sight here, with Illyus and Barrientos delivering a pair of bumpin', party-hearty cuts that recall the halcyon days of disco-sampling New York house. Over on the A-side, James Jackson and Siege steal the show by brilliantly chopping and beefing up a much-loved disco-funk staple (we'd get spanked if we gave away the source material) while Tiptoes opts for a looser and groovier interpretation of a bumpin' soul cut (the wonderful "Bird Story").

Review: Round nine for the Black Jukebox series from Exploited and Shir Khan lays down the gauntlet to a new array of European and international production talent looking to take on the basements and terraces. First up is Brussels-based Mickey, who lines the A Side with two cuts; "Holding Hands"seems tailor made for the Black Jukebox series as a sultry vocal sample coaxes a perfectly placed house bassline into action, whilst "LA Anyway" finds Mickey in techier territory. Away on side B, Parisian The Makanism gets his congas out on "The Touch" which seems to pay a certain homage to the filter house style the French capital pioneered years before - can you guess the sample though? Finally we head to Philadelphia as Matpat implements another killer piano sample amidst some tough house beats and a looped up vocal hook.

Review: Shir Khan's Black Jukebox is back with its 16th edition and it's all killer no filler as we'll explain. First up the EP starts off in wicked fashion with the thumping, swing fuelled groove of Iban Montoro & Jazzman Wax's "I Believe" with its jazzy piano loops.. this one's definitely made to play! On the flip we've got the lo-slung deep groove of Dutchman Bas Roos' "Midnight People" that's just perfect for a 3 AM Chicago basement shut in or Bushwick loft party alike! Finally Soul Clap Records affiliated G Markus' "The Man From Planet Jazz" is indeed a jazzy little something, no doubt inspired by the Windy City Style.

Review: The latest volume in Shir Khan's party-starting Black Jukebox series - the 21st in total - comes from John Andersson AKA Zoo Brazil, a producer whose discography stretches right back to the turn of the Millennium. As you'd expect, all four tracks are chunky, funky, loopy and floor-friendly, with the long-serving Swede crafting bumping bangers out of choice disco loops. Some will note the influence of DJ Sneak on swinging filter disco bumper "Around and Around", while the brilliant "Hyper" makes merry with samples from what appears to be an obscure, boogie-era electrofunk jam. Elsewhere, "Alright" is a rolling workout built around a prominent guitar loop, while "Complicated" is a slightly deeper and dubbier disco-house jam.
