Techno
  1. The Black Dog - "Scan 9 From So-Yo"
  2. Happa - "Red Place"
Review: Tracks from SoYo veterans The Black Dog and UK techno upstart Happa feature on this fifth and final 12? in the Bleep Green Series. Launched in 2012, The Green Series saw Bleep jointly curate a succession of contemporary techno with acclaimed photographer Shaun Bloodworth and design collective GiveUpArt. Launching the series with productions from The Analogue Cops and Karenn, The Green Series has maintained a focus on the Berlin school of techno with subsequent editions featuring music from Cosmin TRG, Lucy, Steffi and Objekt. Although there was no initial hint that The Green Series was a limited affair, this fifth edition puts the series to bed and features two distinct generations of UK techno in The Black Dog and Happa. Despite the difference in age and experience, both sides of BLP-GRN 005 edge the listener into the darker realms of techno, with Happa continuing to display a penchant for the rougher industrial sounds on "Red Place".

Techno
  1. Marcel Dettmann - "Ride"
  2. Lucy - "Slave's March"
Review: Marcel Dettmann and boss Lucy become the latest pairing to get involved in bespoke Green Series from Bleep. Launched last year, the Green Series is an ongoing collaboration between online music store Bleep, design agency GiveUpArt and photographer Shaun Bloodworth, combining some of techno's biggest names with bespoke sleeve design and photography. Karenn, The Analogue Cops, Objekt, Cosmin TRG, Redshape and Steffi have featured on the three 12?s so far, and the next will see two equally lauded names take the mantle as the Ostgut Ton producer and Berghain resident Dettmann and Stroboscopic Artefacts boss Lucy contribute to the fourth release. Maintaining the straight up tone of the techno that preceded them, Dettmann submits a bounce heavy lesson in flawless techno in the shape of "Ride," while Lucy's contribution "Slaves' March" is 7+ minutes of pummelling rhythms and ever-building layers of tension and noise.

Experimental/Electronic
  1. Wa Chacha (Nozinja version)
  2. Wa Chacha (Tessela version)
Review: Crossing cultural and continental divides, this experiment from Bleep finds Shangaan Electro pioneer Nozinja bringing his South African soul to these shores in an exchange with Tessela, a producer whose sound is firmly rooted in the identity of UK electronica. Nozinja's original is a sprightly affair that will appeal to any fans of the Honest Jons Shangaan Electro series of 2012; rich in rapid-fire drum patterns and resplendent with sweet vocal harmonies. Tessela's version of "Wa Chacha" unsurprisingly gets much grubbier, pulling up a wealth of bass-loaded sound design and crafty rhythmic hooks without side-stepping some of the colour that makes Nozinja's source material so energised.

  1. Apologies
  2. Outside In
  3. Lever
  4. In Wait
Review: Having previously surfaced on the Filtered compilation for Bleep, John Flynn's Spaces project returns with more intricate and playful electronica for the Warp subsidiary that more solidly establishes him as an artist of note for anyone who enjoys a good glitch-out. "Apologies" works rapid fire fragments and occasional sweeps of big bass into a tricksy time signature arrangement, while "Outside In" takes a slightly more measured approach to crafty electro. "Lever" too works catchy elements into a slick and addictive funk, with plenty of interference to keep things out in leftfield, before "In Wait" rounds things off with a more twitchy affair bolstered by looping piano fragments and interesting atmospheric disturbances.

  1. That Horn Track
  2. That Horn Track (Dettmann remix)
Review: It's been a long and winding journey but the immense Untold production "That Horn Track" finally finds its way onto the vinyl format it deserves courtesy of our pals at Bleep. A long term weapon in the hands of the inner Bass Music circle, "That Horn Track" has been blowing up the midnight request line since Pearson Sound included it in his 2013 RA podcast. Dunning was coaxed into parting with the incendiary, post apocalyptic track for release by Bleep as part of their 10 Year Anniversary compilation earlier this year. Now Bleep have done the smart thing and pressed it on 12" and thrown in a rather fine remix from Marcel Dettmann for good measure.
