Review: 1975's Black Sabbath album, Sabotage, was written at a time when the band were caught up in an ongoing legal battle with their former manager. That is what gave the album its title and no doubt fuelled some of the more abrasive and angry tracks. The newly remastered reissue is now paired with a complete live show that was recorded during the band's 1975 tour. Of the 16 tracks, 13 have never before been released. As well as a special new booklet with further fan delights, two extra tracks feature on a bonus 7" with artwork that replicates a rare Japanese version of the single.

How can heavy metal-ers not get excited about this one? While sporting a pretty serious price tag, this Super Deluxe edition of Black Sabbath's seminal fourth album is certainly one for the collectors, who will delight in the 11 additional studio recordings featured in the huge amount of bonus material here, which include snippets of studio dialogue, false starts and more rough around the edges nuances that bring the work to life.
As for the LP itself, it was something of a landmark moment in the band's journey - shifting the intensity and ferocity up at least three gears and then sticking a brick on the throttle to hold it in place. Perhaps Mojo's take on things puts it best; ""If booze and dope had helped fuel Sabbath's earlier albums, Vol. 4 is their cocaine ... Despite their spiraling addictions, musically Vol. 4 is another ambitious outing". Enough said.

Review: Capturing the era of Black Sabbath with Ronnie James Dio on vocals following Ozzy Osborne's departure, Live Evil was the first officially sanctioned live album from Birmingham's foremost heavy metal pioneers. The album came together in 1982, drawing on shows from Seattle, San Antonio and Dallas on the Mob Rules tour, and now it has been given the deluxe reissue treatment. As well as the original mix of the album, there's an entirely new mix of the album from the original analogue master tapes by long time band associate Wyn Daivs, complete with a 40-page hardback book featuring new liner notes and replicas of the original concert book and poster form the Mob Rules tour.

Review: The Black Sabbath Hand Of Doom box set provides the ultimate collection for fans who opt to live in a world where the group never had any other vocalist apart from Ozzy Osbourne. Providing picture disc represses of all eight LPs released during the original frontman's tenure from 1970 to 1978 (2013's reunion album 13 is not included), the collection boasts the self-titled 1970 debut, the same-year follow up Paranoid, as well as the iconic slew of Master Of Reality (1971), Vol 4 (1972), Sabbath Bloody Sabbath (1973), Sabotage (1975), Technical Ecstasy (1976) and Never Say Die! (1978). Limited to 3000 copies (which isn't a large amount when considering how vital Sabbath's early material still is to this day) and complete with a large coloured poster, fan service rarely gets as ideal or essential as Hand Of Doom.

Review: While the tenure of both Ozzy Osborne and Ronnie James Dio as vocalists for metal giants Black Sabbath has been documented, praised and repressed ad nauseam, little discussion is often rewarded to Tony Martin, who actually served as the band's second-longest standing frontman. Finally catalogued in this new box set, Anno Domini: 1989-1995 offers up newly remastered versions of Headless Cross (1989), Tyr (1990), Cross Purposes (1994), and Forbidden (1995), with the latter being remixed entirely by guitarist Tony Iommi for the occasion. Review: The ninth full-length from Dio still feels like a recent contribution to the former Black Sabbath frontman's expansive canon, even though we find ourselves celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The first project to feature Whitesnake alumni Doug Aldrich on lead guitar, who would subsequently return for 2004's, 'Master Of The Moon'; Ronnie James Dio would handle production duties himself, while penning a surrealist fantasy vision-quest analysing our increasing reliance on technology through metaphorical encounters with dragons. The project is also notable for its lead single, 'Push', which featured self-professed Dio worshippers, Tenacious D, in the hit music video.

Review: The eight full-length from Motorhead is often regarded as one of their most underappreciated works. Originally released in 1982, 'Iron Fist' would be the final album from the classic Three Amigos era line up of Lemmy, "Fast" Eddie Clarke, and Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor. Citing the pressures of following up their, 'No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith' live album that debuted at no. 1 on the UK album charts, as well as the internally controversial decision to allow guitarist Eddie Clarke to produce, the end result would be a project respected and adored by most, with the exception of the men behind the craft. With Clarke's departure not long into the promotional tour, and the underwhelming regard Lemmy held the work in, it's times like this that we can thank the fans for championing the record and its praise for years to come. This 40th anniversary edition is mere proof that even sometimes the artist themselves doesn't get the last say on the staying power of their art.

Review: Motorhead's 12th album Sacrifice landed way back in March 1995 and was their first on the SPV/Steamhammer label. It was the second full-length to feature the lineup of Lemmy, Phil Campbell, Wurzel, and Mikkey Dee, with Wurzel leaving not long after this one was finished. It's an album that features all the trend and tested head-thrashing rock sounds the band had already long been associated with - loudness, shattering drums and loud, fast guitars with a couple of new classics added to their already big collection of anthems.

Review: The 17th full-length Motorhead LP, originally released in 2004, is often heralded as one of the trio's heaviest works - and with good reason. Linking up with producer Cameron Webb who had been pining for a chance to work with the band, Lemmy was quick to point out that they dealt in rock n' roll, nothing "heavy", yet Webb would persist, tiptoe around the self-confessed egos and realise his vision with Inferno. While some critics branded the project simply more of the same old same old, others noticed the increased heft and fury that brought the band's reliable thrashing cacophony to an elevated level of mayhem. The curveball country-blues closer, 'Whorehouse Blues', also serves as one of the most baffling yet endearing album finales in the Motorhead canon.

Review: It isn't too absurd to consider that Motorhead appeared at the 2007 installment of the iconic Montreux Jazz Festival, when the organising team are renowned for purposefully selecting the best artists of leftfield variety to add dynamics to their line-up, and offer respites from the jazz-centric billing. All that said, there's still no denying the face-melting bizarre turn from one of the greatest heavy rock/metal acts to ever shred, and now the set has been immortalised on wax. Featuring essential cuts from their back catalogue such as 'Killed By Death', 'Iron Fist', 'Overkill', and (of course) 'Ace Of Spades', it's a genuine joy to hear Lemmy and co utterly embracing their newfound audience and delivering a breakneck sonic spectacle only the trio knew how to deliver.
