Dimension Unknown (5:27)
Magnetron (5:04)
Wire (4:56)
Neurotransmitter (4:57)
Review: Munich-based producer Martin Matiske rebooted the Blackploid project for a couple of brilliant EPs on Sheffield's Central Processing Unit last year, and now he's back with a new one this week titled Planetary Science. Hear the sound of space invaders getting stoned on opening cut 'Dimension Unknown' and the electro-bleep shuffle of 'Magnetron' on side A, while over on the flip you can take the time machine further into the future with the Drexciyan computer funk of 'Wire' followed by the darkly dystopian beat programme of 'Neurotransmitter'.

Electro
Electric Engine (5:13)
Night Drive (5:10)
Pleasure Activism (5:55)
The Race (5:08)
Review: Although he never confirmed it when he launched the project in 2006, Blackploid is an electro-fired alternative alias of sometime International Deejay Gigolos artist Martin Mastike - and not, as some speculated all those years ago, a Drexciya side project. You can see why some would have though Blackploid to be a Drexciya product though. This surprise EP for Sheffield's CPU Records is full of Drexciyan tropes, with three out of the four tracks delivering the kind of high-grade, sci-fi-fuelled electro brilliance that we've long associated with the legendary Detroit outfit. Highlights include the thrusting, bleep-heavy brilliance of 'Night Drive', the surging, space disco-influenced heaviness of 'Night Drive' and the raw, angular techno stomp of opener 'Electric Engine'.

Memories That Never Happened (5:44)
Problematic Tape Recorder (5:22)
Subsequent Experiments (5:24)
Unparalleled Comfort (4:41)
Review: Some three years after making her first appearance on Central Processing Unit, storied electro star Annie Hall (real name Ana Artalejo Moreno) returns to the Sheffield-based label with another fabulous four-track missive. It's a pleasingly varied affair, with the sometime Semantica contributor confidently striding between deep, melodious, laidback, IDM-influenced fare (the undeniably emotive, occasionally bittersweet 'Memories That Never Happened'), shimmering and sparkling, sci-fi-seeped 21st century electrofunk ('Problematic Tape Recorder'), Autechre-influenced glacial IDM excellence ('Subsequent Experiments') and warm and dreamy downtempo electro bliss (the sustained chords, gentle melodies and slipped hip-hop beats of 'Unparalleled Comfort').

Electro
Space Threat (5:20)
Asteroid Attack (5:20)
Flying High (5:03)
Vimana Ride (5:03)
Review: Sheffield's peerless Central Processing Unit welcomes a new signing here in the form of Larinoov. The artists has previously shown great creative nous across releases that suggest he is well versed in classic electro and also loves a good melody. He has dropped them on Craigie Knowes and Rotterdam Electronix in the past and here kicks off with a soundtrack to a trip to the far flung corners of the multi-verse. 'Asteroid Attack' then adds some extra intensity to a similar framework and 'Flying High' then hits a sweet spot in between. 'Vimana Ride' closes with a gurgling bassline that will melt your mind and smart, snappy drum work.

Jitters (4:38)
Spin Ratio (6:31)
Super Fluid Tones (6:30)
Review: Central Processing Unit welcomes back Silicon Scally for some reined and emotive robot music in the form of this Soft Robotics EP. This is of course an alias of Carl Finlow who is a master of making his machines sing with a sense of human realness. He pushes the boundaries once more here with four precision tooled cuts that come with plenty of vintage synth flourishes and thudding basslines. Bubbling melodies define each of the cuts as well as a cinematic sense of atmosphere that really takes you somewhere.
