Review: Rotterdam-based Ukranian Antenna is the next producer to step up on Clone's Royal Oak offshoot. The Pinkman regular is in fine form, laying down a quartet of cuts that blend a range of classic house and Detroit techno influences in attractive, dancefloor-friendly ways. While the title track's fusion of British 'intelligent techno' and vintage Detroit sounds is undeniably impressive, it's the undulating acid lines, spacey tunefulness and distorted beats of "Happy Dance" that hit home hardest. That said, opener "Lake of X" - a Larry heard style chunk of spine-tingling analogue deep house - and the similarly intoxicating "Atomic" are also superb.

Review: Rotterdam-based Ukrainian duo Antenna has got a super discography that includes outings on all the finest labels out there from Pinkman to Guidance to their own Antenna International US. Here they return to Clone Royal Oak for four tracks of deeply atmospheric house music. There is a big and tribal feel to 'Timbales' which is defined by thunderous hits of the eponymous drum as well as some spooky vocals. 'MDF' is more shadowy and paired back. The drum designs are so fresh it's a killer groove before things get all aggy and in your face with the off-balance stop and twitchiness of 'Bodja.' 'Park Life' closes out in reflective fashion with lush harmonies swirling around a big open space.

Feed Da Bird
Review: Finnish producer Arttu Snellman makes a welcome return to Clone's Royal Oak series with the wonderfully named Evvy Steps 12". Those elder selectors out there who lived through the West London broken beat scene and have the record collection to prove it should certainly check this one! Whether it's by design or default, there is a certain bruk heavy charm reminiscent of Dego, Domu et al in their pomp deployed by Snellman here, with the title track really setting the tone. Heavily swung, with killer bassline squiggles, "Evvy Steps" is topped off with a dusty finish and is the kind of track that will work in many different sets. The two B side tracks are just as rowdy!!

Get Up Off It
Review: Sometime Philpot and 4lux artist Arttu arises on the Clone imprint for the first time - and the results are just as good as the Rotterdam label's preceding output this year. Presented as the results of some spontaneous studio jams with Detroit artist Jerry The Cat, there's an undeniable sense of fun to both tracks here. Lead track "Nuclear Funk" is loose limbed analogue house at its finest, with rough hewn drums and a delightfully elastic bassline soon joined by Jerry's inimitable improvised refrain and lolloping percussive textures. "Get Up Off It" is altogether more scattergun, with gleefully disjointed drum machine rhythms raining down on the gloopy analogue bass line before a heavily delayed Jerry The Cat comes to the fore.

Get Up Off It (Dexter remix)
Review: Dexter and A Made Up Sound get the Clone call to mess with the material from Arttu's great debut on the Royal Oak label, and naturally the results are a must have. In their original form both "Nuclear Funk" and "Get Up Off It" were the improvised results of a studio session between the 4Lux artist and Detroit vocalist Jerry The Cat. It's a bit of a genius stroke from Clone to enlist two well respected audio technicians like Dexter and Dave Huisman to bend them further out of shape, with the latter's take on "Nuclear Funk" a particular demented delight. Operating under his alias A Made Up Sound, this remix typically smudges the boundaries between genre and rhythm to suit his own needs, reworking the synths to sound like a faltering dot matrix printer over incessantly stumbling drums. Dexter indulges his love of 303 patterns on a remix of "Get Up Off It" that stays closer to the original's origins and makes for a nice contrast to the A Side onslaught.

Review: Basic Bastard is one of the more humorous aliases ascribed to dance music household name Orlando Voorn - it's one of almost twenty. Most releases that have come out under the name have included dark surrealist themes, homing in on everything between hard techno to the self-styled genre of techno-soul. Usually optimistic, this music tends to appeal to the basic bastard in all of us; 'Engine' and 'Rise' are an essentially funky pair of tracks, the sonic equivalent of well-worn dancing shoes. The best bits here are the original 'Rise (Detroit Dub)' and the dubbed-out version of 'Engine'.

La Montagne De Reves
Review: Last seen dropping the humongous Klinsfrar Melodies on Creme Org back in 2010, Glaswegian producer Marco Bernardi makes a triumphant return on Clone's Royal Oak initiative with The Burning Love Ensemble, a 12" replete with three potent examples of drenching simple, raw drum machine rhythms with endless layers of emotional melodies. The contemplatively titled "Days Gone By" infers what is to unfold as the track's ruff edged drum groove is driven ever backwards in the mix by layer upon layer of intricate sonic detail which is finely poised at the point of full meltdown. The title track seems like a more streamlined affair initially, all melodic elements aimed squarely for the stars before Bernardi lets loose with a thick square analogue bass tone and the drums start to go mental. Finally, "La Montagne De Reves" delves swiftly into immersive dream like territory, dragging you down willingly!

Innocence Of Pleasure
Review: Clone offshoot Royal Oak strike gold again with two tracks of idiosyncratic house moments from Glasgow's Marco Bernardi. "Innocence Of Pleasure" crafts a multitude of disparate elements and when combined they form something hypnotic. Reverberant string samples bounce between off kilter beats in need of a buff as the track opens before a rousing chord pattern accrues some emotive weight as we head into deep Detroit bizniz. The point where an electronic key melody arrives briefly will delight your senses. The flipside title track, aided by the echoed tones of Aux 88's Keith Tucker, features the sort of driving raw techno rhythm that immediately grabs your attention. Adding some injection is a percussive shuffling augmented by subtle acid bleeps and insistent bass throbs. Issued on nice dark green clear vinyl, this twelve comes with the added bonus of a free digital download.

Review: For Royal Oak, Barese DJ Nicola Loporchio aka Cosmic Garden serves up some deep and emotive house sounds reminiscent of mid nineties Windy City sounds - think Alleviated or Prescription Records. Following up some great releases on HotMix and his own Cosmic Rhythm, there's proper life affirming vibes on "Loving Higher", awash in celestial pads and hypnotic melodies, while "Lifetime" on the flip nails that classic early '90s rave vibe that you could have heard under the M25 motorway during the second summer of love. The loved up, breakbeat driven UK vibe continues on the lush closer "On My Mind" with its glistening FM keys that'll be sure to get some hands in the air moments.

Review: Clone is one of the oldest active labels in the game, and DJ Fett Burger has been the most singular soundsmiths in the scene for seemingly as long. This coming together of two giants is another successful one with the Sex Tags co-founder flipping Red Scorpions' "Enjoy This Limousine" into a dubbed out techno roller with jittery snares riding on bleeping electronics. Speckgurtel then tackles "Harpo" with an old school rave energy that is muted yet euphoric, before rounding off with his Drumapella version of "Sonnenambiente", which makes an effective early evening house tool.

In practice, that means a saucer-eyed mixture of retro-futurist house treats (see jaunty opener "Harpo" and the Italo-house giddiness of "6Drops (Piano Mix)", loved-up deep electro (the spacey warmth of "Red Scorpions"), unashamed Larry Heard tributes ("Sunshine In The Limousine"), densely percussive peak-time workouts ("Enjoy This Limousine"), ragged acid ("6Drops (Technocid Mix)"), rushing Balearic synth-pop ("Sting Collins") and chiming, early '90s style ambient house (the beat free lusciousness of "Sonnen Ambiente").

Once Again (Morning Factory remix)
Review: Clone tempt Psychostasia boss Reggie Dokes into providing yet more sweat addled basement tackle for their Royal Oak sub label, and the Detroit magician responds in kind with the gloriously uplifting sounds of "Haiti". Heavily reliant on bursts on raw piano that cascade around your senses, what really impresses upon repeat listen is the subtle switches in rhythm that occur throughout. Complementing this is "God Of House" a less lysergic, more introspective slice of Detroit ruffness filled with a multiplicity of spell binding instrumental touches. The upwards shift in emotion provided by a rising crescendo of strings is magnificent. Rising Dutch duo Morning Factory grasp the B Side with a heavily stacked rework of Dokes' "Once Again" which ensures this will remain in many a record box over the summer months.

Jaywick (5:36)
Review: Predictably, Clone is keeping tight-lipped about the identity of the "talented" Rotterdam producer behind the Fell's Point alias. This debut from the "side project" features two tracks that bump along impressively, drawing on vintage UK garage, U.S house and New Jersey garage influences. Both are sweaty, bold and bass-heavy, with flipside "Jaywick" cleverly combining headline-grabbing piano riffs, classic vocal snippets and a sub-heavy bassline with shuffling, '90s style drumbeats. Lead cut Side Street has a similar feel, though the beats bang harder, and its' a woozy synth line and loved-up chords that grab the attention, rather than Italian style piano motifs.

Review: Clone Royal Oak welcome back the widely-admired veteran Fritz Wentink for another of his high energy house EPs. 'Double Man' is a real sweaty workout that jacks the floor on big, steel plated drums. They almost sound live for the way they dance around so freely while a cosmic arp flutters up top. It makes for a track filled with celebratory good feelings, and 'Friends' keeps the good times rolling with another boisterous and muscular groove, this time with more tripped out effects. The closer is like a skeletal garage work out with its clipped vocals and sci-fi sounds.

Houston We Have A Problem (7:26)
Juxtapose (6:41)
Review: ** BIG REPRESS ** After two auspicious releases on the Swedish label Aniara Recordings, production duo Genius Of Time step up to Clone's Royal Oak series, previously graced by the likes of Space Dimension Controller, Reggie Dokes and Gerd. Taking this esteemed company into account, we don't take it lightly when we say this record is as good as anything we've heard in the Royal Oak series, with A Side offering "Drifting Back" a jazzy house delight with softly pumping chords making for a jam that wouldn't seem out of place in the KDJ back cat. It's the two flipside offerings, however, that contain the real heat. "Houston We Have A Problem" combines calming synths, vocal moans and rolling percussion to breathtaking effect, while "Juxtapose" could almost be David Kennedy in house mode such is the tough, raw drum programming, but Genius Of Time add some softly soaring strings, thus imbuing the track with a nice classicist bent. An excellent release that comes with a free download code to keep all you mp3 bandits happy.

Review: Dutch Veteran Gerd's career stretches back an impressive 22 years. Planet F.D.M.X Pt 1 sees him return to Clone's retro-futurist Royal Oak offshoot for the first time in five years. Interestingly, opener "Planet F.D.M.X (909)" doffs a cap to early Warp "bleep and bass" releases, while also paying tribute to the spacey techno sounds of Detroit. There's a slightly more Larry Heard feel to the accompanying "707" mix of the same track, with deliciously deep chords and bright stabs accompanying a "Can You Feel It" style groove. On the flip, he's in full on space mode on the wonderfully attractive and rubbery "Visitors", while "The Cube" bounces along on a wave of vintage acid style refrains, jackin' beats and dreamy, drawn-out chords.

Review: Following previous appearances on Turbo and 3024 Brian "Gingy" Wong makes his debut on Clone Royal Oak. "Rapt", featuring the distinct vocals of Azari & III and Hot Since '82 collaborator Starving Yet Full, is a full on retro-futurist garage groover, with a little UKG swing underpinning classic U.S garage organ stabs. Clone stalwarts Serge and Tyrell provide a chunkier, largely vocal-free dub, making more of the original's relentless organs and some classic, early Tenaglia style drums. The 12" concludes with "VSCUS", a warm and dreamy chunk of acid-flecked deepness with plenty of far-sighted electronics to move the track forwards.

Review: We've banged on about how much we enjoy Felipe Gordon's work before, noting that nearly everything he touches turns to musical gold. Predictably, his first outing on Clone's Royal Oak offshoot is superb, too. Opener 'Impresiones Acidas' is particularly impressive: a near-perfect fusion of hazy deep house, Tourist-era St Germain jazz-house and undulating, near psychedelic acid lines. It comes accompanied by a TB-303-free take, 'Impressiones' (where the original's luscious jazz guitar solos get more of an airing) and two bonus cuts: the sunshine-ready, jazzual deep house wonder of slowly shifting loop jam 'Can't You See' and the chunkier, piano-sporting deep house heaviness of 'Displacing Resolution'. In a word: impeccable!

Review: Contemporary house music's most prolific producer, Felipe Gordon, delivers his second EP for Clone offshoot Royal Oak. Whereas his first, 2022's 'Impresiones Acidas', added oodles of TB-303 trickery to his usual jazz-funk-flecked deep house sound, this four-tracker seems more informed by vintage New Jersey garage and turn-of-the-90s NYC deep house. The headline attraction is 'For Martha', a bumpin' excursion rich in squelchy synth-bass, synthesiser horn sounds and deliciously dreamy chords. Kai Alce delivers an even more old school-sounding revision blessed with his usual warming and jazz-flecked instrumentation, before the Colombian producer returns with 'Waves', a spacey, off-kilter, percussion-rich workout of the sort we'd usually associate with Glenn Underground or Ron Trent, and the hazy, all-action early morning delight that is 'The Beginning Of That Lonesome Road'.

His new album Psychedelic Melancholia is just about to drop on Hip Dozer and is already much talked about, while he has also found time to turn out this fresh EP for Dutch label Clone. It opens up with the delightfully deep, dusty and Detroit-style house of 'No Words' then things get more physical but no less warm and vibes with the cursing grooves of 'Travel Through Your Mind'. 'No Words' (Byron The Aquarius dub mix) then boils things back down into a steamy dub stew and a second remix of the same tune by the American brings a little more playful and jazzy synth-funk.

Review: Randee Jean sees the very exciting prospect of Chicken Lips' Dean Meredith and Andrew Meecham on Clone's Royal Oak imprint, albeit under the new Randee Jean moniker. Given that the name sounds like a long-forgotten New York house producer, it's not surprising "You Got It" provides as glorious a pastiche of Paradise Garage era house as you'd expect, with a strong vocal, jazzy Rhodes and tumbling percussive swing. As ever with Clone, the remix choices prove inspired; Arttu puts his own tweaks on the track to give it a heavier, leaden stomp and thick soupy bass lifted up with its flute melody. Dexter and Awanto3 also team up to deliver two further mixes, one dubbed out funky roller with a spring in its step, and the other with a surprising ghetto flavour. As ever with Clone Royal Oak this is about 100% better than almost all other house records out there, and comes highly recommended!

It sees label mainstays Serge and Alden Tyrell join forces to deliver a scorching rework of the previously unheard "Beats". As you might expect from the basement-loving duo, it packs a serious punch, thanks in no small part to their surging drum machine rhythms and expert use of build-and-release arrangement. Review: Second time round for Masarima's 'Freak Like U', a sparkling 2020 tribute to post-Italo-disco proto-house, co-produced by Whodamanny and Mystic Jungle. This time round, the track has been reimagined by two stellar talents: West Coast electro stalwart Egyptian Lover and Sheffield-based bleep, hardcore and acid revivalist Luca Lozano. The former handles side A, delivering warming, dreamy, tactile and glassy-eyed electro takes (vocal and instrumental) that reinforce the track's mid 1980s inspiration. Lozano, meanwhile, opts for another kind of nostalgia altogether, first combining house tempo breaks with echo-laden elements of the original (and a couple of hazy new synth stabs) on the 'Breakbeat Guy remix', before layering up the beats on a rather lovely 'Tribal Workout Dub' featuring percussionist Karlos Moran.

All four tracks explore medic house with deep grooves and a far-sighted sense of reverie. The A-side is taken up with a pair of tunes that are split into two parts and both just roll and roam with a delightful freedom. 'The Sun On The Refugees' has a more unsettled melodic phrasing that loops and loops until its joined with some extra keys that release the pressure then 'Satellite Orbit Funk' is downbeat and dusty house a la Theo Parrish. The duo follows a recent remix of Reggie Dokes with a full release on the Royal Oak offshoot that is the starkest demonstration to date of their innate ability to craft house music that sounds both contemporary and respectful of its forebearers. There's a multitude of ways to describe "Fantasy Check" though it's the swathes of piano flourishes that lend the track a winning sheen of loveliness. On the flip, "Diane's Love" implements a cheeky vocal sample - which you should be able to work out from the title - amidst a shuffling house groove that constantly twists inside out. We defy you not to be impressed by this!

Lead cut "NOYFB" is an intriguing proposition, fusing as it does the rhythmic swing of UK garage, the spacey futurism of classic Detroit techno, and the loved-up ethos of early US deep house. The latter two influences shine through on the alternative "Straight To Tape" version, while "Pareidolia" mixes jaunty analogue electronics with the low-end throb more readily associated with British-made house and techno. A fine EP comes to a close with "Carmen", a particularly woozy, cymbal-heavy late night excursion.

Review: The Modular RZ EP is an excellent rough edged material from Naples pair Rio Padice and Massimo De Lena, founders of the Early Sound Recordings label and well acclimatised to working together as part of The Early Sounds Collective with fellow Neapolitan Leskin. The three tracks here are a perfect fit for Clone's irregular Royal Oak series, nudging themselves nicely in the fuzzy grey zone between house and techno and focusing on a tooly approach that keeps the beats straight whilst they work through a raft of bleep laden, analogue movements. The title track has immediate qualities that will appeal to many, but the rugged charms of "The Octave Lord Of Ring Mode" really stand out for us, with dirt encrusted bassline and semi malfunctioning fx lending the production just the right dash of wrongness.

Review: Maybe it's something to do with Sabre's Portuguese background, but whatever the explanation, this latest release is full of breathy, sun-kissed melodies and ramshackle grooves. It starts with "Cascavel Breeze", where woozy, psychedelic chords unravel over broken down drums and a beat-down rhythm. "Vigilante" is based on the same template, but on this occasion it sees Sabre conjure up jazzy keys and loose drums, against which there is some nonsensical but hugely enjoyable vocal wittering. "Ghetto Prophet" is the main dance floor track and features a searing bass fused with dreamy melodies, but the standout track is "Streets Of Love - Blaze". It sees Sabre lay down a hypnotic deep techno pulse to which he adds freeform synth lines and cosmic pan pipes.

Here, three tracks from that EP get the remix treatment. Gifted and Blessed steps up first, serving up a pleasingly loved-up version of "Vigilante" full of rubbery synth bass, snappy snares and dreamy, stretched-out chords. Review: The Space Dimension Controller has landed for another round of Correlation explorations on Clone Royal Oak. Take us to your leader? Nah. Just play us some of your newly discovered space oddities, we say! There's some real deepness to be found in other parts of the universe, as the high tech soul of "Galactic Insurgents" proves. As does "Scatter Scanners" which throws in some seriously funky e-bass and new jack swing influence. The further discoveries are astounding: On the B side "The Trails You Left Behind" is some seriously inter-dimensional electro funk that'd make Gerald Donald stand up and notice, while the haunting "Nova Project" is a dark cinematic cut reminiscent of John Carpenter.

Review: Space Dimension Controller returns to Clone's Royal Oak series in style with the first of five Correlation releases! It was back in 2010 that the then-emerging Space Dimension Controller first landed on Clone's Royal Oak imprint with Journey To The Core Of The Unknown Sphere; since that landmark release the Belfast born producer's career has taken off with successive EPs on R&S which ultimately led to this year's concept-heavy debut album Welcome To Mikrosector-50. Correlation#1 retains the intergalactic motifs that have become a Space Dimension Controller trademark, however the five tracks here find Hamill focusing on a straighter dancefloor approach akin to his earliest releases. His one concession to conceptual themes manifests itself visually with Hamill producing a series of prints relating to the mood and colour of each track. One print has been randomly inserted into each of the records included in this first pressing.

Down In Sector H
Review: Last year's first Correlation EP was something of a return to form for Space Dimension Controller. While his debut album Return To Mikrosektor-50 was arguably a little too eccentric, Correlation #1 saw Jack Hamill return to what he does best: namely making inspired, spaced-out house and techno tracks blessed with those trademark, ambient-inspired synth melodies. Happily, there's more of the same here. There's an attractiveness to the alien bleeps and delay-laden groove underpinning the brilliant "Angel Groove", while "Monodynamic" is gloriously wide-eyed - all surging melodies, cosmic effects and unfussy analogue grooves. Closer "Down in Sector H" is good, too, in that oh-so-blissful way that marks out Hamill's best productions.

This Is The Place
Review: Originally debuting on Well Rounded Records' Housing Project sub-label in 2012, Leon Vynehall has since become one of the UK's most in-demand of the new wave of young house producers. He's released subsequent records for George Fitzgerald's ManMakeMusic and Will Saul's Aus, and most recently an album on Martyn's 3024. Vynehall is now in cruise control and he lays back on Clone's Royal Oak with what will prove to be a favourite with DJs this summer. "Butterflies" is this record's piano-driven house jam, but really it's all about "This Is The Place", a loved up peach of a production with the strength to appease the underground and crossover into the mainstream.
