Review: For Connaisseur, Art Bleek has given three outstanding and diversified tunes on 'Euphorized'. In a scene, where many producers have never learned to play an instrument, Arthur Pochon aka Art Bleek is an exception. At the age of 6, he started playing the piano. Following his graduation from the prestigious Paris Conservatory after 12 years of studying saxophone and music theory, he went to the no less famous Boston Berklee College of Music on a full scholarship. After all this intensive studying, he started to work in a major Paris recording studio, where he complemented his knowledge with the handicraft of professional music production. In 2001, Art Bleek started to release his first tracks on compilations. He played the saxophone alongside deejays and started spinning an eclectic blend of jazz, nu-jazz, broken beats, bossa-nova, world and electro jazz records in hip Parisian bars and restaurants himself. At the end of 2004, Art Bleek signed a record contract with Lounging Records. He released his first album there, followed by a single, two EPs and a remix album. In 2007, Art got really busy, his sound mutating more and more into the direction of Techno, Minimal and Deep House, but still keeping his typical jazzy twist which makes his tracks so special. Outstanding releases on labels like Rush Hour and Resopal Red followed. The title track 'Euphorized' is pure early 90's XTC-feeling. Positive in every way, this track puts a smile on everybody's face. It's Deep House with a techy touch made for special moments in the club. 'Night Station' is the most functional and tool-oriented tune on this EP, pushing and almost dark. Perfect DJ-food. 'Snow Landscape' may perhaps be the standout tune on this record. Crystallized bell-ish sounds drill their way into your ears right from the first minute to set you into a hypnotic state. Detroitish pads and jazzy beats and bass are added and create a wonderful musical trip.

Review: Connaisseur veteran Chymera presents an insight into how his forthcoming third LP Death by Misadventure might sound with lead single "Strange Things Are Afoot." Housed in a clear PVC sleeve and pressed on equally clear vinyl, this is an impressive looking 12" and the music matches the feel, with the Irish producer presenting a master class in how to build a track, as a complex array of spectral textures weave between one another atop a strident kick drum. It is the moment where the bass line emerges from the nether regions and dissipates into one glorious arpeggiated lead that grabs your senses wholly. Two men of the moment in Conforce and Claro Intelecto offer their own takes on the B Side, with the former's relentless jack hammer through brooding electro complemented by the altogether more serene dubby scraping of the latter.

Review: Daso Franke, a fellow well known not only for his fantastic releases on MBF and Connaisseur, but also for his furious live-sets, sets out to bring the noise again with "Absinthe". After having been inspired by the nerdy world of old-schoolish adventure games for his last release, he uses the dissolute world of absinthe as an afflatus this time. He takes us to a land where alluring little green fairies buzz around and people cut their ears off under absinthe's massively woozy influence.

Review: Daso, our newest signing, is one of the world's most charming maniacs. Born in Poona (India), he was raised up in Lower Saxony and now lives in Cologne. He already gained fantastic reputation through his releases on Traum's housey sublabel MBF. His first release on Connaisseur will feature his more techno oriented side, without losing his melancholic, beautiful and extremely kickin' sound. We are very happy to welcome Daso with his awesome three-tracker on Connaisseur and suggest everyone to check his live act. He is a real rocker behind the laptop; skilled clubbers from Zurich to Tokyo can confirm this. "Sam N Max" is deep rumbling techno track with a mind-blowing bellish sequence and snappish hi-hats. It's the perfect match for a sweaty peak time techno workout. "Dott" is the first track on the flipside and Daso's nastiest track so far. It has the energy of a stagecoach trapped in a huge buffalo stampede features some venturesome tumbling comic style noises on top. "Beneath A Steel Sky" is the B2 track. The queen of German minimal, Anja Schneider, called it "Mädchen-techno" and damn she is right! The melody in this track is so sweet, it has at least 3000 calories, a sure shot to get the ladies back on the floor.

Review: Perhaps the cutest concept behind a record release in some time, Connaisseur present Welcome Ava, a four track EP with artists asked to contribute productions in honour of label boss's Alex and Hilary Flitsch newborn daughter. How the artists involved - dOP, Of Norway, Pat Chardronnet and Masomenos - chose to approach the project was left open to interpretation and the results are pleasingly diverse in execution. Parisian troupe dOP contribute two tracks; they collaborate with Masomenos on opening track "Hello" which occupies the playful, dubby and ambient nursery strata whilst their solo production is more familiar speakerboxx embellished twanging techno fare. Audiomatique regular Patrick Chardronnet opens the B Side with a charming and quite sprawling downtempo harp filled excursion called "Source Of Life" whilst Of Norway address Ava directly with the swirling psychedelia of "Song For Ava".

Review: With an ever-increasing release schedule things are going particularly well for Lithuanian producer Linas Strockis at this point, and now he sidles up to Connaisseur with two variations on a theme that show off the playful and catchy style he is making his name on. The original mix of "If" is a light and fluttering house cut with a recognisable vocal hook and some choice emotive synth lines. Meanwhile on the flip the "alt version" opts for a more adventurous approach that works a restrained line in melodics made up of craftily interplaying tones that maintain the peak time energy always to be found in a Few Nolder jam.

Review: Connaisseur have deemed Tristesse worthy of a reissue just five years after its original release, this time packaged with a Wareika remix. The original is a plaintive micro-house track which packs a great deal of emotional depth into its skipping details, not least when bolstered by tense reams of strings. Wareika keep the essence of "Tristesse" firmly intact, opting to gently feed extra layers of organic percussion into the mix for a greater sense of groove. The occasional outbursts of piano chord inject some unexpected excitement into an otherwise tender track suited for those reflective moments.

Review: Kollektiv Turmstrasse's outstanding Rebellion Der Traumer album released late in 2010 on Connaisseur was the perfect line smudging example of low slung and experimental tech house. The album's 10 tracks and 9 interludes had the electronic music world keener on the duo that we'd ever been in their eight year career. The long awaited remix package started off with Jimpster and Robag Whrume revealing their interpretations and this second remix EP tasks Scandinavian duo Of Norway and techno stalwart Aril Brikha with reimagining "Uneins". Brikha comes up with a blend of rapped spoken vocal, moody tech basis and humid deep house layers up top; a little confusing maybe, but hitting the spot beautifully nonetheless. Oslo based Of Norway play with heightened kicks and cinematic textures in their remix that bounds along furiously with an equal air of grace.

Review: Without wanting to spark some existential conversation about What Techno Is, Berlin minimal something duo Kollektiv Turmstrasse arguably broke the mould of their style with this 2010 masterpiece that owes as much to the likes of Ellen Allien as it does Kruder & Dorfmeister and Compost Records. Saturated in a dark, high tech soul, while it opts to shuffle, glide and whisper, rather than bang, drive and pound, it clearly sets out its stall in a live instrumentation corner of the German capital's most iconic sound.
Stunning warm moments like the lackadaisical keyboard-focused dance lounge jazz of 'Heimat', the sticky garage blues of 'Was Bleibt', or the smoky, dubby piano house of 'Deine Distanz' have not lost even half an ounce of their original magic. And those are really just the surface level big hitters. Dive in deeper and you start to realise just how beautiful and beguiling the whole thing is.
